Unfortunately, this pharmacy is no longer on the preferred pharmacy list with my health insurance. When I filled a script here recently, they could only fill one month's worth of meds, but I didn't find this out until I picked up. It would've been helpful if they told me when they ran my insurance and then give me a choice whether I still wanted to go through them to fill my Rx and get only 30 days of meds and then have to come back 2 more times in the next 2 months to get the rest of my full script of 90 days or to go somewhere else. I'm not sure if it's same cost to fill a 3 months script split over 3 times or not, but the inconvenience factor is a consideration for me. When I found out and the cashier explained why, she was not friendly about it. She was kind of curt and borderline rude about it, like I should've known (things could change even with the same health insurance every year) and that they have no responsibility to let me know ahead of time that they can only fill 1/3 of a 90 days script now. Anyways, they also started charging a surcharge for credit card usage and this wasn't always the case. It's only 25c for $10 charged for example, but it's the principle of passing on costs to customers when it's really the overhead that a pharmacy that's quite established should expect. Or only accept cash, but I imagine that would turn away many customers. In any case, I may have to find a new pharmacy now, unfortunately. Even though I want to continue to support a small business, the customer service piece should be as good if not better. We walked around a bit afterwards and although the gifts they sell are different and unique, the sticker shock was unreal. read more

The store is clean, bright, and pleasant to shop in. It's next to the La Bou cafe and Sprouts in Land Park. We like to support local and this pharmacy is locally owned and has provided good to great services when we come in for our Rx. Sometimes they're a little bit backed up, but they usually keep you updated if you're waiting in person. If you call in your prescription or your Rx was sent in by your medical provider, then Parkside will call you and let you know when your Rx is ready to be picked up. One star deducted for the astronomically high prices at the front of the pharmacy. Literally everything is artificially inflated in price so that if you really needed an essential, it's truly a rip-off if you buy it here. Of course one must understand they are selling you these items for the convenience that you are already at the pharmacy and do not need to stop at a general store like Walmart or Target for more reasonably priced everyday items like toothpaste, OTC ointment, etc. So we only get our Rx here and that's it. The gift items are even more outrageously priced, but they are beautiful to look at, and they have a large assortment of gifts. They also have testers for lotions and such items and that's nice bc then you'll know if you will like the feel and fragrance of the lotion, cream, or other scented items. All in all, this is a nice pharmacy and we hope they'll continue to do well so those of us who really don't like getting our Rx from a corporate pharmacy can keep getting our meds here. read more

This part is the 5 stars for the pharmacy. Great service for my dogs medication. They made it easy to take care of. Called when ready and then delivered to my house the rest of the medication that was not available. They have treats for dogs and humans. The front of the store has amazing products and merchandise that I just wanted to buy everything. The only thing I didn't like was that the front store clerks kinda follow you around. Im not sure if they have problems with shop lifters but the constant staring had me a little tense. I did end up buying a couple of things but that detail had me a little frazzled and uncomfortable. The pharmacy section is in the back and they are a whole other operation. Plenty of parking across the street from the Sac Zoo and next to a diner and Sprouts. read more

Called in two prescription refills on Thursday. By Monday, I received a text saying one prescription was ready. I drove over around noon thinking, "Great, efficient!" Nope. Was told the second prescription wouldn't be ready until the end of the day because "we just started to work on it", and I'd need to come back again tomorrow. Apparently "refill" means "surprise side quest." Now let's talk customer service. After standing in line for a while, the clerk, Giselle, finally looked up and hit me with a dry "Pick up prescription?" No hello. No eye contact. No "give me one moment." Just pure DMV-at-4:59-PM energy. To be fair, she did check on the second prescription status, so I'll give credit where it's due. What made the experience extra noticeable was watching the white customer behind me immediately receive a bright, cheerful: "Hi! How are you today?" Ah yes... so greetings are apparently a premium feature package. Good to know my POC money spends the same, even if my POC face doesn't qualify for basic warmth. Look, nobody expects a pharmacy to feel like Disneyland. People are tired, busy, and overworked. But basic courtesy costs nothing, and poor customer service leaves a bigger impression than people realize. Customers may forget the wait time, but they remember how they were treated. read more

i have used parkside happily for over 20 years. maybe more, because we lived in another state for awhile. i am just going to warn you. when you call, be sure you have close by: something to drink something to eat kleenex paper and pen to doodle on leave the tv on with voice leave notes on the door that you are present also, leave a phone message. "please leave a message. i am home and well, but waiting for parkside pharmacy to answer". the message is . . . so your loved ones know you are ok and not lying on the floor unconscious and not to call 911 even though it has been over an hour since they dialed your number. i would find a picture and attach, but only one hand works as the other is clutching the phone and has clamped. read more

I am extremely disappointed with Parkside Compound Pharmacy and feel obligated to warn anyone who relies on critical or time-sensitive medication. We placed an urgent order and paid an extra $20 for same-day delivery, something they promised would happen. The medication never arrived. When we called the next day to check the status, we were suddenly told it had been "shipped," even though we were originally promised direct delivery. This wasn't just inconvenient, this jeopardized our health. When you depend on medication, delays are dangerous. What made the situation worse is that they shipped the medication to an address we never authorized. We gave them the correct delivery address, NOT the billing address on our card. Their mistake caused even more delays for something that was urgent and medically necessary. When we asked if we could pick up a new batch to avoid waiting even longer, we were told the medication "wasn't available." But just minutes later, suddenly they did have it and could "fill it as soon as possible." The inconsistency, disorganization, and back-and-forth stories were extremely concerning. There is no need to lie. All we wanted was honesty and accountability especially for something directly tied to our health. Instead, we dealt with miscommunication, false promises, and zero responsibility taken for their errors. If you have chronic or critical health needs, I strongly advise staying away from this pharmacy. Their lack of organization and transparency can jeopardize your wellbeing, and no patient should have to experience that. read more

I got a gift card for a facial last December for my birthday. I called and made an appointment. They called and cancelled it informing me their hours or staffing changed. Then I rescheduled for the day after thanksgiving. I confirmed when I made the appointment that they would be open that day they reassured me. Days before the facial I got a call telling me they would be closed and informed me of their new more restricted hours. I let them know I gave up and would be giving away the gift card to a family member. They called me and reassured me we could reschedule it. We ended up rescheduling it for 10 am on Xmas eve which also happens to be my birthday. I confirmed the appointment the day before. I show up on my birthday only to be told they over booked and would have to cancel my appointment and that it was their error. I am not going back and would not recommend. The only compound pharmacy that I know about in Sacramento. Took my prescription in on a Wednesday and there was a question about an ingredient that had to be confirmed with the vet. Then I guess they were busy, then it was the weekend and not ready yet, they are closed on Sunday, then Veterans Day so it was not ready until Tuesday. By that time my dogs collapsed trachea was not treated for a few days. read more

Parkside is one of the only compounding pharmacies in the city and its centrally located in Land Park. It's family owned and operated so the customer service is excellent. Their products in store are specialty and a little pricey, like fancy soaps etc., but the products just cost more to buy in general so I don't think there's much they can do about that. I've noticed there's lots of employee turnover here for what it's worth but it is retail after all. The pharmacists themselves are very helpful and take time to explain your medicine. read more

First of all, I can't say enough about the lovely staff that works in the gift shop portion of Parkside Pharmacy. They are extremely friendly, helpful, and kind. Same goes for the staff that works at the counter in the pharmacy portion of the business. Unfortunately, one of the pharmacists has been continuously rude and has made really unprofessional comments to me in regards to my medication(s) and the history of my illness. I was diagnosed with Stage 3c breast cancer 2 years ago at the age of 39. My children were 1 and 4 years old at that time. I went through neoadjuvant chemotherapy, a bilateral mastectomy, and 33 rounds of radiation. I am still going through reconstruction procedures and have encountered numerous complications along the way. I also have chronic pain issues associated with my surgeries and radiation, which I take pain medication regularly for. Throughout my cancer journey, I have been extremely lucky to have the privilege of working with wonderful health care providers. This is the first time I have ever been treated poorly by a "professional" or made to feel badly for needing pain relief. I have thought about changing pharmacies, but the location factor is so convenient for my family, and my children and I really do love everything else about Parkside Pharmacy. I'm choosing not to name the pharmacist; but I think it's worthy of people being aware of. read more

I also have to agree with others here. The owner, John, just told me he wouldn't refund me for a prescription I just refilled for my sick dog, who passed away before we could use it. I understand you can't restock meds, but Chewy and others show empathy and refunded me for their meds without asking for it back. Then she said something amazing..."But we can make it". I thought I heard wrong. She then said to text the prescription to their number so they could start on it saving me a lot of time. The woman who checked me out of the gift shop portion of the store was very rude and condescending. She's older, brunette and I think her names Linda. I got back to my car and thought a moment about how I was just disrespected while buying some gifts. I decided I wanted to return everything I just bought. Luckily the store manager was there to make an exception to the return policy and gave me a full refund on my card, which is the only reason I gave 2 stars. I come here often to buy gifts, I don't mind the prices when I'm not getting disrespected in the process. I actually just updated my review to take a star away because I see lots of reviews where customers were disrespected by Linda and Linda is still there working, being rude to customers. I'm sorry that I'm not Caucasian, but I would appreciate an acknowledgement - eye contact, a nod, SOMETHING, when I'm the ONLY customer in the store waiting to pay for my purchases and the only counter girl is on her phone with what is clearly a PERSONAL phone call. After being totally ignored for a while, I made my Asian self way to the pharmacy where I was greeted and rung up by the Asian clerk behind the counter. They are sometimes subtle, most times not, about the way they treat people of color in this place. I've never been treated this way in any Land Park establishment and I'm totally over it. Being new to the area, I was looking for an independent, trustworthy pharmacy to use for our family. With two little ones under 3 years old, winter hit and we had several rounds of antibiotics for various ear infections. The meds are never in stock here and I'm told will arrive when ordered next-day. That's fine, antibiotics are in shortages now so it is understandable. My issues start there. It has been hit or miss with whether or not I receive a call to inform me of the delay. Sometimes they offer to transfer to another pharmacy - if I call around to find it. I should be called if this is the case. I usually have to call them to find out. One antibiotic in particular I was told by a staff member that "it's rare, pharmacies don't usually stock this one so we'll have to order it". Fine. Come to find out, they made us wait until the next day, then compounded it for us *without prior approval*. Why does that matter? Insurance doesn't cover it. It cost us $100+ for a tiny 30ml. Of course, I'm willing to pay that for my kids, but let me know ahead of time! I was outright lied to. I didn't find this out until my other child needed the same prescription 3 weeks later. I was told the same thing, so called around just to check instead of waiting until the next day. Walgreens on Broadway had it in stock. Got it that day and at only $22 for twice the amount. Look, I want to support the small businesses but these shady business practices are out of the question. I plan to file a formal complaint. Lies, lack of communication from staff, making my kids wait longer for their meds so you can make more money? Take your business elsewhere. There are other independent pharmacies in the community that deserve your patronage. read more
