"Fun Place to Go for a Colonoscopy, but No "Check-in" Discount. There doesn't appear to be any secret bonus for Yelp check-in. I was sort of hoping for something like free anesthesia or two colonoscopies for the price of one, but no luck. I have been coming here for many years, with very good experience. Usually I see the physician's assistant, but on occasion Dr. Rowe. I have found him to be very helpful, patient, and professional. I have never felt rushed in any of my appointments. They have a new PA whose name is Julia. Very informative, very friendly and helpful. She made some medication suggestions, and gave excellent information about some long-term side effects and the latest scientific research, of which I was unaware. The excellent suggestions given to me today by the PA were very helpful to me. Occasionally I have to wait a few minutes, but it's usually not very long. Today I think I waited 2 minutes. I barely had time to do a Yelp check-in before I was called. I have also had Dr. Rowe perform the usual routine colonoscopies. I would not exactly call them a load of fun, but they went smoothly. Well, as smoothly as one can expect having a tube shoved up--well you know what I mean. I should also mention that they require you provide them with your credit card information, so they can charge you right away. At first, I found this a little annoying, but I understand they want to shorten the billing process. The office is in that large office complex right near San Ramon Hospital. Dr Rowe and Treanti surgical center are a colonoscopy endoscopy factory. My husband had his second colonoscopy there and we will find new care for him elsewhere. Neither he nor I ever got to see Dr Rowe and no one spoke to me bout how he did if they found polyps again or not. I am an RN and patients and family have the right to see and speak with the physician and to get an outcome from the procedure. The answer is was you can get it from the doctors office later. People go through like cattle and the cash register keeps ringing. They also ordered the prep from Alto pharmacy and apparently they must get a kick back. His insurance would t cover that pharmacy so we paid for the prep and it. And with a wrapped caramel and asking how much did we want to tip the delivery person???? It's a money machine with little deference to human interaction and patient or family needs. Stay away!!! read more

Terrible experience with this office, specifically with the PA-C. She prescribed medication without giving any diagnosis info or following up with insight on lab test results. Symptoms remained very painful, so called the office and messaged each day for a week with no response. Later saw a better gastro doctor, who said the medication she prescribed was incorrect. Better now, but want to warn others because the reason I chose this office was because of good reviews. read more

My husband scheduled an appointment for a routine colonoscopy consultation in May 2023. During the consultation, Dr. Rowe recommended an abdominal scan, which he underwent after the appointment. However, due to the inclusion of this additional test, the office did not bill the insurance as a routine consultation. Without sending us a bill, they automatically charged his credit card (on file) $215. He didn't know about the charge prior until he got the notification from credit card app. After numerous calls with both insurance and Dr. Rowe's office, they said would escalate the case for resolution. Unfortunately, we have not received any further communication from them, and it is now September 2023. We are vey disappointed with Dr Rowe and his office's billing. read more

Dr Rowe and his PA are both great but his office staff is horrible. I was supposed to have a tele-visit but it would not work. I got a phone call back was told my test results and that was it. Today I got a call from his office asking for a copay. When I told her it was just a phone call with my test results and that a copay shouldn't apply.I was told ok we will write it off and you can just find a new doctor. Like I said the doctor and PA are the best but this treatment by the office staff over 25 bucks is the worse. read more

I have never written a medical review yet this office warrants it. When I see a doctor I am looking for expertise for myself or my family, an ounce of bedside manner doesn't hurt. At this office you will not receive that. Not even 1/2 ounce of it. Edel the nurse , Julie the physicians assistant and doctor Rowe are bordering on zero tolerance for patient questions or concerns. I've never written a review for a medical professional before, but given that Dr. Rowe was heavily referred, I feel obligated to share my all-around abysmal experience. To start things off, Dr. Rowe was rude and disrespectful during my initial consult. I had already seen several physicians prior who were unable to figure out what was going on. My PCP felt that the case was complicated enough that I should see an expert. Dr. Rowe immediately dismissed 50% of my symptoms and diagnosed me within 2 minutes. When I tried to communicate that I've been through unsuccessful treatment of that diagnosis, he became agitated and told me that I must think I'm smarter than a doctor. After 20 minutes of back-and-forth, he relented and agreed to perform a procedure that could definitively answer whether he was right or not. Fast forward to scheduling the procedure; they booked me at San Ramon Hospital, which drastically underestimated my out-of-pocket costs and I'm now stuck with a substantially higher bill than originally planned for. When discussing the situation with someone at Dr. Rowe's office, the administrator became extremely agitated with me when I declined to provide my credit card number over the phone and abruptly hung up. After having the procedure, I have been unable to find out what the results were. The reason why I don't want to provide my credit card number is because Dr. Rowe's office stores all patient credit card numbers on paper in a filing cabinet, rather than using a 21st century digital system. Overall, it was a terrible experience, between Dr. Rowe's arrogance and poor patient demeanor as well as the location they booked my procedure overcharging me. read more

Dr. Rowe himself is a great doctor and saved my wife's life. The procedure went 100% smoothly and was done in about 30 min. He was good at explaining the procedure that was needing to be done and explained why he was choosing the procedure over other procedures first. He listed all the possible outcomes good and bad without sugar coating it. Dr. Rowe has a soft spoken voice and seems caring to my wife's tears as we go through this process. (5 Stars for the Doctor) Why I gave 4 stars over a 5 star. The office staff and the demand for payment up front. I always pay my bills and have a high credit rating. When I was asked to pay that same day I was shocked. I have good insurance and usually wait for the EOB to arrive so I can confirm my financial responsibility. I was forced to pay just shy of $1K before any surgery could be performed. Having paid in cash it took a while because they almost always get credit cards and had to figure out how to deal with real money and make change. I'm still waiting on the EOB to know what I paid was really our responsibility. (2 stars for the staff) read more

Dr Rowe is an absolutely fantastic Dr! He is dedicated and hard-working and know his stuff! I have been a patient of his for years. He has always been very thorough kind and explained everything to me. A couple of years ago my husband who was not his patient was in the hospital and Dr Rowe came by and checked on him. Dr Rowe is one of the few doctors that still makes Hospital rounds. I cannot say enough good things about him. His dedication, prompt follow-up and genuine concern for his patients is a blessing. I just got back from Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minn Everyone there told me the same thing and one Dr told me I should have sued him and making the Medical Board aware of his incompetence !! 5 years ago ( and I posted before ) he banded an internal hemmroid and any professional Dr would have pulled out immediately if the patient said it hurt. I did not know when hurting that he could not take the banding off if waiting a bit. ( I never have done this before ) He let me wait and when I told them I could not stand the pain " he said ... sorry it is too late !!!!" I went in the next week ... his answer to me was " I can't do anything more for you .. go somewhere else ". I got a fissure from this ... living in chronic pain for 5 years .... UCSF TOOK THE FISSURE OUT FINALLY LAST YEAR AS THEY WANTED A BIOPSY. PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THIS Dr ( and the front of the house girls are rude too ( exception of one mature woman ). Mayo Clinic and many other surgeons I saw said Dr Rowe did not go high enough and caught a nerve in my colon. He has wrecked my quality of life and chronic pain puts you in a terrible state of mind of depression. Mayo Clinic is helping me and a good Pelvic Floor PT is too .... But I will have to live with his incompetence for the rest of my life. This Doctor has absolutely zero personality and no bedside manor whatsoever. Needless to say , I moved from one area in the bay area to a new location approximately an hour and a half from his location in San Ramon. I needed to find a new gastrointrologist closer to home. I was going through a difficult time in my life not to mention during the middle of covid. I would agree that I was not acting rationally at the time, however, his office was made aware of what was actually going on with me at the time. I was treated with complete disregard with what I was going through emotionally. He suggested a medication that I was opposed to taking at which point I made it clear that I was not comfortable for many reasons taking. He completely disregarded my decision and although I explained that I would be finding a new gastroenterologist closer to home, he wrote in my file that he discharged me as a patient. This now follows me every time I see my new gastroenterologist. She brings it up every time I see her. I am told that there is nothing that Dr. Rowe office can do about this situation. They have permanently tarnished my reputation with a lie. Let me make this very clear...I was the one that told them I would be finding a new gastroenterologist. Definitely NOT the other way around. If you want a Dr. that has no compassion, especially for those who may also suffer with mental health issues, I would steer clear from Dr. Anderson Rowe. Doctor started off as pleasant on first meeting but as time went on it was difficult to know if he will be pleasant to you or somehow leave the office feeling like you were insulted for the questions asked. The office staff is not friendly and helpful at all. He seems to get easily irritated with questions, and I don't think anyone who is ill deserves such a treatment. Dr. Rowe is the best doctor I have ever had, and I have had ALOT! When I was 15 I started having GI problems, I was passed around from Doctor to Doctor for a long time until I was referred to Dr. Rowe. He was extremely compassionate of me while we went through many tests as it was hard for me because I was so young. He did many procedures and was always so comforting to me through the whole process. He always explained everything to my parents and I so we knew exactly what was going on. I could not have asked for a better Doctor, Rowe is everything I could have dreamed of for a GI Doctor. He has the best bed side manner when I was in the hospital and I never had a problem with getting an appointment in his office. After being under Dr. Rowe's care we could not figure out what was causing all of my stomach problems. He referred me on to Dr Nguyen at California Pacific Medical Center and The Pain Clinic at Stanford. After an exhausting 2 years of many procedures and tests being preformed by these 2 prestigious centers I had finally been diagnosed. I give Dr. Rowe so much thanks for treating me and then after exhausting all of our options referring me on to someone else who could handle my unique situation. I was referred to Dr. Rowe by my uncle, I would be upset with my uncle but he didn't know that this office was going be a problem. I work for Safeway, which provides the greatest benefits, when the office staff told me that they called to see if I was eligible, they told me they could not get a hold of them, so I would have to pay out of my pockets. I told them that my dentist or optometrists never have that problem, she said that she went the extra mile and was on hold for an hour, then called back, and still no answer. Her name is Rachel, I know she was lying, for sure. A day comes when I run out of refills for my prescription, I call them up and ask why I have yet receive more refills, Rachel answers the phone and she says I cannot have more refills until I pay my bill. The problem was I had paid my bill two month prior, but Rachel didn't believe me, she just trusted her computer system, and she refused to look into it. I raised my voice to show how annoyed I was, and she connected me to Tisha, the office manager, I told her that I had evidence to prove I paid my bill, and she looked into it. 5 minutes after we hang up, Tisha calls back and tell me I was right they were wrong. Despite me being right and them wrong, they still refused to refill my prescription because they wanted me to come in for an appointment first, the next available was not for 2 weeks. I had to go a wee21stk without my medication, which was painful. The day my appointment came, they tried to make me fill out a form with my credit card info, but I refused to do it because things like that are optional. I don't recommend Dr. Rowes office because they care more about the money they make instead of helping patients live. read more

Dr. Rowe has been my doctor since I was hospitalized in September of 2017. I had been mis-diagnosed by my prior doctor's office (PA). Dr. Rowe is one of the last of a dying breed of doctor. He actually calls and does follow up himself. I have been able to see him when I need to, as he promised. My colonoscopy, through his care at the Tresanti Surgical Center was the best experience possible under the circumstances. THE WORST. I have never met a more dispassionate doctor in my life. Having survived our first meeting with his manager, we met the doctor. He spent more time writing than listening. We should have walked out then CONFUSION! The day before the surgery, the surgery office called to confirm arrival time but only said that they were confirming the appointment with Dr. Rowe and the location by saying that I was to be at their office at 2pm but failed to identify themselves as the surgery company. I got upset at the confusion and canceled the surgery. I called Rowe's office and complained to them and they denied making any call. The continued confusion enhanced a panic attack. For those who have experienced this, it makes you over react to conflict and chaos. MORE TROUBLE! Then the real trouble began. The office sent me a bill for $100 for canceling the procedure. Though I explained that the cancellation was beyond my control, the billing woman said they would send me to collection for the $100. WHAT? I asked to talk to the doctor. THEN IT GOT WORSE! The doctor called and told me that I was wrong about what happened because everyone at his end told him what they thought happened. He would not listen to my situation and had no passion for a patient with this affliction. Dr. Rowe was rude and unconcerned about the patient but was only concerned about getting his MONEY. $100 in blood money for something that never happened. I had the same issue that Allan had with this office. My wife's doctor recommended Dr. Rowe and I had to wait like 5 weeks before I could see him. But to my surprise it was a young Doctor assistant was seeing me instead of Dr. Rowe. I really don't mean to look down on anyone but I have a severe Acid Reflux that I went to 5 doctors already. I came to see Dr. Rowe because he was highly recommended. My wife was upset about it so she called the office and complained about it. That's when the office manager there an asian guy name John started to be very rude to my wife. Giving my wife false information and pretending they never receive orders for tests from other office etc. I think the office Manager here (John) need some training on how to deal with customers/patients. I normally don't write bad review before giving people a chance to correct their actions. But for him playing with patient's health is a very dangerous game. It's not the same where he came from. Regarding: Anderson F Rowe, MD, his staff and medical practice. My doctor referred me to Dr. Rowe for a simple colonoscopy due to my age. The problems start at my first visit. Although I arrived early for my appointment, they keep me waiting for an additional 45 minutes. It didn't seem very busy and three patients who arrived after me were taken before me. Okay, irritating but not a real problem. Once I was called in to the exam room I expected to see Dr. Rowe but instead saw the Doctors assistant. I don't usually have a problem with this but I could not communicate with her. She only asked me one question in broken English as to why I was here. I told I was referred by my doctor for a colonoscopy, etc. .... (I am a native English speaker). It was clear that she could not understand. She ended up leaving the exam room and asking a staff member a bunch of questions. I can't tell if she was medically competent but she has very bad conversational English skills. So, now for the real adventure. I made the appointment to get the colonoscopy a few months later (~60 days or so). In the interim the billing department sent the bill to my insurance company with as it turns out the wrong service/billing code. The assistant had given the wrong information to Dr. Rowe's staff. So my insurance company declined to pay for the office visit. They said the Dr. would have to correct the code and resubmit to them. I contacted Dr. Rowe's staff about the billing error but they refused to correct the billing error. So they wanted me to pay for the full price of the office visit ~$400. I waited a week or so and again contacted Dr. Rowe's staff/billing department they refused again and soon after I got a bill from a collections agency. WOW, it was only about 60 days from my office visit to a collections letter. I contact Dr. Rowe's office again, but they said they could not do anything because it's in collections. So my office visit lasted about 15 minutes and I was billed approximately $400.00 cash price. I just had to pay the amount to clear ensure my credit didn't get dinged. With regards to the colonoscopy, I had to cancelled that a week before because the death of my son . My conclusion is the Dr. Rowe's office is much more concerned with Money than his patients. WARNing. Please be wary of Dr. Row and his office staff, they are not in the business of helping you. Make sure your paper work is correct and there are no errors. I would call your insurance company or Doctors office before seeing him or his staff and verify you know the correct billing codes. And ask Dr. Rowe's office staff for itemized cost estimate before seeing him for an appointment or any other medical procedures. read more

His staff is friendly and efficient. He referred me to Dr. Gottleib when surgery was required. I am felling better than I have in twenty years. I could spend hours on this review as I've been a patient of Dr Rowe's for the past 6 years. I was diagnosed with Crohns disease in 94. After that I moved and went through dozens of GI Dr's before staying with Dr Rowe. There're many different reasons why I choose to stay. I will sum up the top reasons below: He knows what he's doing. He is genuinely concerned about helping. He returns calls promptly. He is approachable and easy to get along with. I could go on but I feel those are my top qualifications in a Dr. I feel lucky to be cared for by such a professional and he is one of a few Dr's that I trust with my life completely. Many other Dr's I fact check and sometimes second guess but Dr Rowe's recommendations are always perfect. He makes it easier to have this terrible disease. One comment said below that he is not the friendliest. My response to that is he is a professional. I don't view my Dr's as needing to entertain me. His practice has gotten a lot busier over the years and his time is valuable. I find him to be plenty friendly just don't expect to sit and shoot the breeze for 20 mins. (That's what your primary Dr is for) If your appointment goes longer than 10-15mins I would be shocked. One other comment below said they're more happy with Dr Jeffrey Marks. I agree I liked Dr marks. I was with him for several years in 00. The reason I switched to Dr Rowe who I started seeing after was because Dr Marks I feel is too gentle in his approach to treatments whereas Dr Rowe balances aggressive and passive treatments.
