The preparation instructions could be more accurate and specific. For example, they could state how many hours before the procedure the patient must stop drinking, rather than simply "after midnight". Years ago I went to Dr. Shelby for that Wonderful experience of a colonoscopy. I warned him about a part that I would definitely yell, "ouch" - like most drs. he didn't believe me... until he hit that spot during the procedure and I woke up and yelled "ow, ow, OW!" I had a couple other colonoscopies with him after that and I never woke up traumatized either during or after the procedure ever again. For the people complaining he doesn't "create a relationship" - his services for most people are one and done - frankly, I'll take competent over warm & fuzzy and not so competent any day. I've spoken with him and he was fine - again he might see your face once and your colon a few more times, but he's not a GP, he's a specialist with quality education, YEARS of experience, and gets the job done. The prep always sucks and if you fuss and take a less effective prep, well, double DA on you. One hint for the day before "clear" fluids - well-strained wonton soup broth - super helpful with hydration and keeping hunger at bay. Oh, and as for being herded like cattle - show me ONE GI place that isn't! At least you know Dr. Shelby is a pro. read more

My initial consult was less than five minutes, he told me we'd discuss more at my follow up. Instead, My results only come in a generalized email for various types of patients and findings. He tells you that you can make a follow up if you want but at no point so far has tried to get to know me, my health history or in depth concerns. Maybe I'll find out more at a follow up? My mother recently had an endoscopy. It was awful. Too many patients back to back. The staff rushed through patients like cattle. My mother was still feeling woozy from the anesthesia and they asked her to get dressed to move to the waiting room. Just awful. I would not recommend care or treatment here. read more

I was referred to Dr. Shelby after a 2 month bout with food poisoning. Upon entering Dr. Shelby's office for my initial consultation, I was greeted by the very friendly Kelly who swiftly got me checked in and ready to see Dr. Shelby. I was shown very quickly to a clean room and upon Dr. Shelby entering the room, I was immediately put at ease by his nonchalant disposition. Based on the symptoms I had been experiencing for the last 2 months, Dr. Shelby recommended a colonoscopy and an endoscopy. Next, I was greeted by Megan who scheduled my procedure and gave me the "Prep" instructions for the day before the procedure. I'm not going to lie, the prep was awful but it did its job and on the day of the procedure, I was made to feel at ease by many. I was shown to an area where I was immediately given a gown, those crazy "hospital" socks and a warm blanket. Adam was my nurse, I hesitated telling him that I was a hard stuck but he had no issue finding a vein and was able to obtain IV access on the first stick. To say I was impressed is an understatement, it usually takes multiple nurses multiple sticks to find one of my veins (wish I could take Adam with me on every lab draw going forward). Next, I was wheeled into the OR suite, meet a very nice lady named Olga, said hello to Dr. Shelby and then the next thing I knew, I was back where I had started from and the procedure was over. I was given juice and crackers, had my vitals taken a couple of more times and then Dr. Shelby came in to let me know that everything went according to the plans, there was nothing significant and that he would like a follow up consult though. Overall, the whole experience was NOTHING!!! Dr. Shelby explained everything from start to finish, very clearly!!! Overall, I'm very happy with my care by Dr. Shelby and his amazing staff. read more

I had colonoscopy's and endoscopy's for 16 years with this guy. I had terrible Acid Reflux. (Barrett's esophagus) it's it a pre- curser to esophageal Cancer. Needless to say I've been scared of dying this whole 17 yrs. After every endoscopy I would get that stupid letter saying taken Rolaids, Pepcid or PPI's. PPI's cause BONE DENSITY LOSS. He never recommended a surgical solution until my last visit. He recommended a Nissan fundoplication. Where they wrap your stomach around your esophagus to keep acid from coming back up your esophagus. But I fractured my spine at work before I saw him the last Tim. I mentioned how I've been on those pills for 15 yrs and asked him why he didn't recommend surgery 10 yrs ago. I was pissed. He pretty much looks at me and Said I can't treat you anymore. I WANTED TO BEAT HIS ASS. All he wanted to do was keep me in the assembly line at his office to keep dinging my insurance. The guy is good for shoving tube up you ass or down your throat. Excellent care I just received from Dr Shelby and his ultra efficient, professional and kind staff for a routine colonoscopy. The only reservation I have about the whole experience was the pre- op information. I picked up the prescription for the medicine you are supposed to take the day before to clean you out. The prescription was very expensive and they attached a coupon to basically get it for half the price. But the pharmacist didn't know how to process coupon and it was difficult to follow instructions to get coupon. Plus there is an option on the back of the prep sheet that outlines another cheaper way to clean out the system. But I didn't think to look at the back page and they didn't point it out. I wish they would have. I did buy a bottle of Magnesium Citrate as per instructions. Man is that stuff awful tasting!! read more

I went to Dr Shelby for a colonoscopy and because he had high reviews on line. i have had four previous procedures but this is the only one where I was not handed a report on the procedure on the way out. Dr Shelby verbally stated what he had done and when I called the office, several times before I was given the report of the procedure, I found out that he omitted two things he did and reported one thing that was not done. When the follow up report came in no mention of the outcome of one of the biopsies led to me having a follow up appt to find out what should've been in the report. Dr Shelby said that was because it was normal. I asked him how I was supposed to know that. Then he prescribed medication and misled me as to the nature of that medicine. I am appalled at all of these behaviors and strongly urge prospective patients to look elsewhere read more

AND the anesthetic wore off very quickly so they have figured out how to use the correct dosage so I didn't have to waste any of my remaining day. Dr. Shelby is a one trick pony kind of doctor. Meaning...whatever your GI problem is, his solution is Mira lax and low FODMAP diet. Well I went along and tried this for 3 months with absolutely no improvement! I went back in and requested a SIBO test. Dr. Shelby refused to order my SIBO test because " SIBO IS TOO HARD TO TREAT". Let me repeat this...he would not have me tested because the condition is too hard to treat. How does this make any sense? That was my last visit with Dr. Shelby! I started seeing another GI doctor who suggested I get SIBO tested! Guess what Dr. Shelby...I WAS SIBO POSITIVE! I can't believe how much time I wasted with you! Yes, SIBO is difficult to treat but I am doing so much better now! Had I trusted his judgement I would still be experiencing daily nausea and bloating. So the moral to my story is trust yourself, you know your body better than most doctors out there! read more

I had a recent procedure performed by Dr. Shelby and I cannot believe how professionally he and his staff conducted themselves throughout the entire time I was at the center. The office staff, the nurses, the anesthesiologist, in fact everybody was top notch. From the beginning, the process was efficient, painless, and thorough. I knew I was in good hands from start to finish. The prep was very palatable (can't recall the name but I mixed it in a large bottle) and it went down easy. Dr. Shelby is an extremely professional and caring doctor. He made me feel at ease, explained everything that was to take place, answered my questions, and spent time with me afterwards explaining what he saw and did (including photos). I needed to contact him several weeks afterwards and he was very prompt in addressing my question. The facility is immaculate and very warm (some centers are freezing). All in all, Dr. Shelby made a potentially stressful experience very pleasant. I recommend him without reservations. read more

Ok, I've been meaning to write this review for about 5 years, but here we are. Better late than never, right? Anyway, Dr Shelby has been my moms doctor for about 15 years. She has terrible...she HAD terrible GI issues, and met Dr Shelby after a horrible experience with CDiff and was hospitalized. He is literally her favorite doctor from that day on. Sometimes I think she makes up Gastrointestinal issues just to see him. Fast forward 15 years, and it was time for me to get me first Colonoscopy...like when did I get this oldddd? Well obviously I was going to Dr Shelby..no brainer....he is just lovely. Great bedside manner, staff is extremely nice and always attentive and fast to reply (email them like it says on the vm and they literally reply within in an hour.) Obviously the prep tasted terrible, but I've never had a better sleep in my life. His surgery center is very clean, and my Pre-Op person Adam was the best IV starter ever...most places poke me at least 4 times. Office staff was hard to reach by phone and then once I spoke to them or left them messages with requests about prescriptions or upcoming procedures, they were not good (they were late or never responded) about fulfilling those requests. Not disclosed to me ahead of time was fact that Dr. Shelby is executive director (and presumably therefore would benefit financially from my procedure) for the surgery center that I was sent to for my procedure. Dr. Shelby did not always answer my questions completely, nor did he ask me if I had any more questions before concluding my visit or my procedure session. read more

From the second he walked into the room it seemed like he was already too busy and rushed to listen to anything I had to say. He seemed to discredit anything I was saying calling me "young and healthy" although i've been in a lot of pain for months. The whole thing lasted 4 minutes. He gave me trials of pills of course and set up a time for an endoscopy. Later that week I came back in for the procedure and all went well and smoothly, the front desk and nurses were truly amazing. When I woke up Dr. Shelby said he would call me in a week. Thinking that he wouldn't I went into the other office to schedule a follow up after the results came back. The nurse was shocked after speaking to me about my pain that he only ordered an endoscopy. On my follow up visit the Dr. came in and said I had a mild case of inflammation, told me to take muscle relaxers and threw some more trial drugs at me. When I pleaded with him that I wanted more tests and started asking questions about overall health he replied "im a stomach doctor, I only deal with the stomach." I'm going back to my primary care to get referred to another specialist and convince him that Dr. Shelby is not a good partner to refer to. Overall: Dr. Shelby would NEVER get a recommendation from me. He is in the business to sadly push drugs and collect the paycheck. read more
