I went to Dr. Yee because my surgeon doesn't perform the procedure. I was a little suspect when all other surgeons were booked out two months in advance. Dr. Yee was the only physician with immediate availability. I took a chance. From the beginning there were issues. My first appointment I filled out the intake information and returned them to the receptionist. I waited thirty minutes past my appointment time and finally saw the doctor. Instead of an exam, I had to answer all of the intake questions again with Dr. Yee while he explained to me the online intake process is difficult to navigate, inconvenient, and he has to try and get the information in the system that I provided for a second time. This took the majority of my visit's time. Afterwords, he looked at my chart and scheduled me for surgery with a rushed explanation of what was to come. I was scheduled for three outpatient surgeries. The first procedure at his surgery center, which is ran like an assembly line. The Dr. had no bedside manner. The receptionists and nurses were nice that day. The procedure went as planned. The second procedure. Receptionists and nurses were nice. Again, Dr. Yee no bedside manner, assembly line, and scheduled back to back, let's get as many bodies in as possible. Well this procedure failed. I was given after care instructions and a number to call. The device he inserted fell out immediately. I called. I was told he would return my call that day. He never did. He sent an email saying, if you'd like to have the procedure redone I can do it. Really?! I just had surgery the device has fallen out. It's a complication following surgery and your after care instructions advise me to call for further instructions if complications arise. Wow, standard of care a big zero. I waited until morning and called the office multiple times. Dr. Yee finally called back and said sorry, I had charts to complete. At this point I was ready to report him to the medical board. I needed to have the procedure redone and two additional procedures for a total of four. Which initially was three procedures. After, I voiced my concerns and questioned his standard of care his demeanor changed. He then began to provide the standard of care which doctors take an oath to provide. I would only recommend him if he is your last and only option. Volume of patients seems to be his biggest concern and not standard of care. Bodies in and bodies out. This was my second colonoscopy with Dr. Yee. My first experience, seven years ago, was not great, but I was encouraged to return to the same surgeon--and I'm glad I did. What a difference! The pre-surgery session was efficient and ran on time. Dr. Yee carefully reviewed the available options for preparation to ensure the best fit for my specific situation. As anyone who's had a colonoscopy knows, the prep is the worst part--but this time, it was much more manageable. The Tresanti Surgical Center was excellent. Check-in was seamless, and the care staff were exceptional. Dr. Yee is amazing and can tell you the love and dedication to his specialty is unmatched. I had horrible experiences with previous GI's, but thanks to Dr. Yee and his staff Luz and Noelle they have given me hope to find a solution to my GI issues. My former primary care practitioner referred me to Dr. Yee for a colonoscopy a few years back. The procedure went well. Dr. Yee's bedside manner is not warm, yet he is knowledgeable. The problem is with the office staff. Specifically, they billed my insurance carrier incorrectly, which resulted in a balance. They only informed me of the balance when it was 60 days past due. Two major health insurance companies insure me and have PPO coverage with both that have covered my medical expenses for years. Only this office could not navigate the billing. I indicated on my cards which was my "primary" and my "secondary." They billed my secondary insurance first, only received partial payment, and refused to correct their billing error. After receiving the past-due bill, I wrote a letter, spoke to the staff twice, and requested that they correct the billing error. I received an unprofessional letter, signed by Dr. Lee, informing me that I was no longer eligible to receive services from them due to nonpayment of my bill. Interestingly enough, after the letter, they corrected the billing submissions to my insurance and received full payment for my colonoscopy. Today, my new primary care practitioner referred me to Dr. Yee. I read the reviews (e.g., Google) and realized that this posture of banding patients for "nonpayment" is a practice, not an exception. FIRST VISIT: I left work early and rushed over here for my 3:30pm appointment. I made it on time, filled up some routine paperwork since I'm a new patient, and then I waited to be called. 3:45pm - waiting... 4:00pm - still waiting... 4:15pm - still waiting... The doctor didn't see me until well over 4:25pm. While I was waiting, I saw him with another patient, which I'm not surprise that doctors over-book appointments. I was told that it was "normal" practice to reduce "down time." I find it very difficult to believe that most doctors nowadays actually care about patients when this is what they call "normal practice." Anyhow, the doctor saw me shorter than I waited because I was out of there by 4:45pm. This is the 2nd doctor I encountered like this (check out my review for Ryan Anderson). 2ND VISIT/FOLLOW-UP: I still waited pretty long and they were pretty aggressive on the procedures they wanted me to do. Luckily, I got a 2nd opinion who doesn't agree with such evasive and aggressive procedure. Also, it's really difficult to get hold of this doctor because the number they provide is for an entire network and they don't provide you an extension to speak directly to their admin, which consists of about 3 people. I've called several times before asking for a copy of my results and had to leave a message during all occasions. The only time they called me back is when my message said that I want to reschedule or make an appointment. Otherwise, good luck trying to get a call back if it's any other request. So my opinion, it's always good to get a 2nd opinion and not get pressured to make such a big decision right there and then. Plus, there's nothing wrong with doing something conservative first especially if your symptoms is mild. I don't recommend this specialist. read more

Dr. Yee's office is located by San Ramon Regional Hospital. Easy to park. One appointment is necessary prior to a colonoscopy. The office assistant gave me a detailed form that summarized the day of the colonoscopy. Several choices are available for prepping for the procedure. I have had several and this time I chose Clenpiq. (Drink 2-5ounces of the Clenpiq with 4 cups of water is all that is necessary. One 5 oz. the day before the procedure and then one the morning of the procedure. I chose the lemon/lime and it was fine) In the morning you go to the Tresanti Surgical center. The two nurses that assist you are wonderful. They have been working together for a long time. I think I had Kathy. I felt well cared for. She followed up the next day as well to see how I was doing. The anesthesiologist was great. I didn't wake up! After the procedure, I actually felt well rested. A week later I had a follow up with Dr. Yee. While I was in the hospital, Dr. Yee was "assigned" to my case. Lucky for me, not so lucky for him because my case was not a cut and dry one. We met my first morning in the hospital (Nov. 1) when I was very scared and very emotional. He was very calm and very to the point with me saying that he needed to get behind the science of what was happening to and in my body and after he did that, he could get to the emotion. I am able to follow directions quite well and once he put it like that, I was able to stop crying and to start answering his questions. He was able to make sure I had all I needed from morphine for pain to whatever else I needed. The next morning I had an endoscopy and later that evening, he came to my room and I was expecting to have an answer. Unfortunately, there was no answer "yet" and he stated he wanted to work very conservatively on my case and wait until the biopsy results came in. My first thought was that maybe I had cancer but he was able to put those fears to rest right away. The next day Dr. Yee came back and said we were still waiting on results and then later that evening he showed up with another Dr. (to be reviewed next) who I knew only as the "Infections Disease" doc and I was really really scared. Turned out, I had a virus that was considered "self contained" but lots and lots of blood work and tests had to be done over my stay and Dr. Yee came to see me daily to make check in on my progress, to write new orders and well, all sorts of other TMI types of details. I will be using Dr. Yee as my GI from now on and will be seeing him in about 9 days for a follow up endoscopy. He has a sense of humor, he is very knowledgeable and again, I feel so lucky to have him working on my case. read more

Saw Dr. Yee after many years. Told him I took probiotics daily for years. He schedules a Hydrogen Breath Test (HBT) the following week which required a negative covid test, 2 days of prep & a little over half a day off work as the test is 4 hours long but I'm desperate for some answers. I show up fully prepped & the nurse tells me I have to be off probiotics for 28 days and therefore the test is cancelled. She calls Dr. Yee's office & I am told to reschedule the test & to follow up with him. A virtual follow up was scheduled however I was unable to get through the login on his website - no directions were provided by the office staff. At this point, I was so frustrated I cut my losses & decided not to go back to their office...only to receive a $50 no show charge. They said it was my fault for not calling in & that they scheduled it as an office visit - another miscommunication, imagine that. Happy to pay $50 to NEVER deal with anyone in that office ever again! Horrific customer service but it doesn't end with his staff - he too (per his staff) state that I'm liable for the charge. I have been a patient of Dr. Yee for many years. My last procedure was in 2014. Apparently everything was paid except for the $40 co-pay. At that time I was wrestling with the illness of a parent and other personal matters so that I did not respond to alleged notices of the $40. Recently, My general practitioner advised me that I needed to visit Dr. Yee again. When I called the office to make an appointment I was told that I was no longer a patient because I did not pay the $40. I explained to them why I did not respond, and told them I would be happy to pay the $40. Instead the manager named Susie, who was very rude, told me that despite being a patient for many years and the extenuating circumstances that I was dealing with at this time, they did not want me as a patient. Gee Dr. Yee, I did not know that you were so desperate for $40 that you would drop a long time patient. My father was convinced to have a colonoscopy at 97 years old while in the hospital. His bowel was perforated by Dr. Yee and he died a week later. I question the need for a colonoscopy at that age even if there was a medical problem. My father died in pain bleeding rectally after the surgery to repair the damage. I should have been at the very least notified about this ~ I held the medical power of attorney and I would have denied the procedure. I have to say, that I don't think it gets any better than Dr. Yee, and I've seen quite a few doctors in my life! Reading some of these reviews is perplexing. Yes, he has been late 2 times when I saw him. But the poor man was coming back from the hospital both times. He was on call and had to run over there. Is it ever fun to wait? No. But one time I was on the other end of it and Dr. Yee was called away from his office patients to do an emergency procedure on me. He saved my life. So now when I sit in a Doctor's office and they are running behind, I don't mind at all. You never know what they might be doing to really help someone. I've also sat in the lobby and heard patients come in and and apologize for being so late. So a lot of the time, we patients are partly to blame. Us arriving 10 or 15 minutes late, then makes the doctor late. Overall, I find Dr. Yee to be a very dedicated and kind man. He doesn't rush you in and out; he is very thorough and will sit and listen to you and talk with you. I feel like many other doctors treat their patients more like a conveyor belt, but not Dr.Yee. He will take the time to address all your concerns. I think his staff is terrific too. The two girls who work out front are so sweet. The first thing I see when I open the office door, is the girl up front smiling. Both ladies are patient and really try to help. They always remember to ask about my kids or whatever it is that I have going on in my life. It's nice to walk into an office and to have people genuinely seem glad to see you, rather than grumbling about their job, etc. I won't need to go back to Dr. Yee for a while, but I would highly recommend to anyone. Thorough and very kind doctor with great bed side manner. His office was able to fit me in fairly quickly because of a cancellation, so I was very appreciative of their help. Dr. Yee sat down with me and let me talk and explain why I was there. He took a thorough history of my health and medical issues. He asked questions to see if he could connect the dots between my exams and what I was telling him. He then proceeded to conduct an examination of my gastrointestinal area to see if anything hurt. Dr Yee was 90 min+ late to the first appointment. Dr Yee was 90 min+ late to perform the first medical procedure. While scheduling the procedure, Dr Yee's receptionist Angela stated that she was too "busy with clients" to tell us where the medical procedure would be conducted or explain the timing around the service to ensure a viable driver would be available. Somehow we thought we were clients. Based on this disturbing lack of client care I contacted the office prior to the third appointment to attempt to determine his level of lateness. Angela stated that Dr Yee was running on time but that was irrelevant because we needed to be there at the set time regardless of how long it actually took for him to get around to our appointment. I explained that I had a sick child at home that would require a sitter and I was simply asking for a time frame from one human to another. I was met with disdain and condescension and a constant stream of justifications and was literally unable to get a word in edgewise. After minutes of abject frustration I started to say "if you would just shut [up]" when she gleefully said "oh you can't talk to me that way, you aren't my client" and hung up on me. I find this an appalling display of customer disservice, bad behavior, and incompetent as a medical representative to a business. Seriously hands down the best Gastroenterologists office in San Ramon. The doctor is so well respect by patients, but most importantly by his peers. He is very thorough through out his visit, yes he tends to run a bit behind, but he is worth the wait. Not to mention his staff Noelle and Luz are amazing. Dr Philip Yee is the best GI doctor I have ever had (I've had several). I did not know anything about him when I first called his office - I picked him out of a directory because he went to Berkeley like my husband. I had SIBO, dysphasia, a failed fundoplication, and LA Grade D erosive esophagitis. He cured my SIBO and my esophagitis, which he initially thought was hopeless. With the lessened damage to my esophagus, my dysphasia is now better. When I said I couldn't swallow the enormous xifaxan pills needed to treat SIBO, he called several pharmacists personally and found a formuia where I could crush the pills and take them in a mix of suspension liquids. He even searched on Amazon for the suspension liquids to make sure I could easily buy them. When my insurance co. declined a second CT scan to determine if my failed fundoplication caused any danger, he called them personally and got them to reverse their decision. He is a stickler for data-based treatment and never makes a move without having data to back it up. He is kind and caring. His support staff Noelle and Luz are also very efficient and nice. read more

A older blonde lady, speaks sort of valley girl like, she is so damn nosey and asks personal questions and will keep asking. I honestly dread seeing her and wish I could avoid her. I just don't get it, if someone tells you that they feel uncomfortable answering a personal question than don't keep digging for info.... its happened twice already. The other staff are nice. I had my 3 year check up with Dr. Yee yesterday, He has me on a 3 year recall for a colonoscopy. I've been going to Dr. Yee for almost 20 years now, and I find him to be the most down to earth, caring doctor I've ever seen. He always seems happy to see me, he always asks about my kids (who are grown now), and takes a sincere interest in me. He answers all of my questions in a way that even I can understand! His staff is wonderful as well ( which I always think is a reflection of the doctor ). If I should call with an issue and ask to be seen sooner than later, they have always gotten me in the same day that I call....his is the only doctors office that's ever done that. I always feel like they treat me the same way they would treat their own family members. I've always told my friends that they have to see Dr. Yee if they need a GI doc...but the other day my daughter told me that most people look at this website if they are looking for a Physician, and I thought I would give it a try....good Karma for me to share good news. I still have to meet a doctor like Philip who is so full of energy and dedicated to his work. A very inviting and communicative person who answered all my queries during my pre operative session with him. I went to him with complains of cramps in my abdomen and not constipation in the morning which was lingering for a few months. I kept neglecting and taking laxatives until one evening when the cramps were unbearable. He did a few external examination and suggested that I should go in for a colonoscopy. He explained to me that there is nothing to be worried about it is just a regular examination that would give him an idea of my colon He could then give me proper guidance once he rules out the possibilities. He assured me that it would be a painless process. He gave me a fluid that I had to drink and no food for the whole night. It was like a gallon of fluid and running to the toilet every couple of minutes was the most difficult part of the whole process.The fluid was to flush out everything in the colon. The day of the examination his staff called checking on me to make sure I was following the procedure. When I reached the clinic they gave me a change and all the regular checkups were done. Dr Philip explained to me that he would partially sedate me and I could watch the entire process if interested. I did not even realize when the entire process got over as most of the time I opted to sleep and not look at the camera. Thankfully there was nothing serious to be worried about. He asked me to stay for a while before leaving and gave me some advices and medication. I was quite happy at the end of it. My first visit to Dr Yee's office was to schedule a routine colonoscopy. His staff was very friendly and professional. I waited about 45 minutes- but he apologized for being late when he did see me. Haven't had a doctor do that ever! He is actually very warm and friendly. He offered me the option of taking pills or drinking that horrible stuff to prep. I chose the pills. They are pretty big- so if you have difficulty swallowing pills- stick with the gunk to drink. The prep was the worse part. No food since midnight the day BEFORE your procedure! Didn't sleep at all that night before do to the prep and was starving and shaky the day of the procedure. Do yourself a favor and pick up an electrolyte replacement drink (no red dye). Back in July, I was hospitalized with severe stomach pains. Fortunately for me Dr. Yee was on call. I was really scared and he was so compassionate, and took such good care of me. I went through a series of tests, and was found to have colitis. Which kept me hospitalized for 5 days. Following up in his office I found his office staff to be just as caring and friendly. While there usually is a bit of a wait, I know it's because he takes his time with each patient and gives them 100%. I would definitely recommend Dr. Yee for your GI issues. read more

It was a horrible experience and a complete waste of my time and money. 1) He was 45 minutes late for my appointment. 2) He was rude and kept interrupting me every time I attempted to speak. 3) He said that he could not treat me because I was not exhibiting any symptoms during the visit. Also, he continued to ask for my medical records from a G.I. doctor I'd seen over 6 years ago. 4) He ended without any attempt to help or treat me, or any follow up visit. Dr. Yee is the sweetest doctor I have ever met. I am pretty picky when it comes to my doctors and still haven't found a good PCP or OB after years of searching, but Dr Yee is the perfect GI doctor.
