It seems that he's amazingly helpful for some people. For me, he was way too abrupt and did a lot of damage. This happened many years ago and was so traumatic that I've put off posting this and reliving it until now. I went to the clinic day where people line up for adjustments. I was only 30 seconds into explaining my situation when he interrupted. He instructed his assistant to "isolate the thoracic." Before I could say anything, she was holding me steady in a chair. Dr Lesko came up to me, held my head, and whipped my head to the right, then to the left. Huge pops and cracks shot down the sides of my already very inflamed neck. Result: I could move my neck at all for the next three months. Increased pain, difficulty sleeping, I must have purchased 5 different pillows during that time in a vain attempt to find comfort. It was awful. Dr Lesko may have talent but he's too fast and very irresponsible. He should have listened to me finish explaining my situation (an inflammatory spinal arthritis condition plus scoliosis), and he should never have done such a violent adjustment on someone with my particular body. I have seen Dr. Andy on and off for 20 years. I moved out of the Bay Area 4 years ago. 3 weeks ago, I fell on my knees a few weeks ago and could barely walk. However, each day they feel better as the swelling went down but they were not back to normal. I was about to leave SF when I remembered that I could see Dr Andy without an appoint and a sliding scale. So I went as I was leaving SF and I am glad that I did. With one appointment everything changed. He did an amazing treatment. Also, he has a great sense of humor that also helps. After a day, I still remember some of the funny things he said. He has that edgy New York humor which I love. He first put acupuncture suction cups on my knees. Then I went on my stomach and he lightly touched my back. Then I moved onto my sides for a gentle adjustment. What ever he did, I am so appreciative of his work. He has worked on countless people and in my mind that can make a chiropractor excellent. He has see every kind of condition around and now has a lot of experience. In his office the walls are covered with art to look at and appreciate which he paints himself and he plays his musical instruments while his patience rest. I am thankful for the Chiropractor who recommended Doc Andy as a top notch Chiropractor for me when I couldn't afford her high-priced treatments. I have since found other chiros in the city do the same. He is highly respected by other DCs. Doc Andy is kind and compassionate. He does a simple series of adjustments on a sliding scale, first visit free, so that you can go daily if needed. You may not get an adjustment on the first or second visit, he works slowly and gently, eventually the tissue begins to open up and adjustments happen. If you have additional issues he will work on those as well. In addition, the sculptures in the window and paintings on the wall are all his work. If you are lucky, between treatments, you will hear him playing one of the many musical instruments in which he is proficient. This is a cash or check only business. No insurance. my only interaction with him was on the phone. normal conversation with me saying I need help with X condition. He turned into a jerk as soon as I asked him if he takes insurance. He pelted out "no I don't and you should go to someone else". except he said it with that tone children use when they try to taunt each other. It was an amazingly rude and immature response. I was referred by my old roommate Jimmy who has been religiously getting adjustments by Dr. Lesko for years now. This place is no joke. I've been dealing with some major back issues for a while now and have tried it all. Ran across this place online and thought I'd give it a try. The first visit was FREE, no gimmick or pressure to sign up for one of the packages. I hobbled in hoping for the best, but expecting the worst and within 10 minutes this guy had brought my pain level from an 8 to a 2. He did a quick consultation, did an adjustment and threw in some cupping just to try and get my pain level even lower...did I mention this was free!? I would recommend him to ANYBODY, but especially want to tell my friends with no insurance coverage to hit this place up. It's a little unconventional, but definitely worth it. I mean, what other health care provider that you know has a sliding fee scale? It's anywhere from $10 to $30 based on your need. Pretty cool... Going back again next week. Dr. Andy fixed me right up! He has a hands on technique and does everything through touch. I can't tell you how many table chiropractors I've seen and it just doesn't work. Dr. Andy will feel what's wrong with your body and know how to fix it. I found Dr. Andy to be a straight shooter and personable, which I love. He is very direct and wants to help heal you or refer you to someone else who can help. Health wise, I had trouble going through the motions of standing and sitting without being in excruciating pain. He gave me a neck adjustments while sitting, then again on my back, followed by cupping, vibration therapy and a massage given by one of his staff. All this on a sliding scale of cash payments. First visit is free and I decided to take the week package for $50 and tip the masseuse $10-$20 each time I went. This is a far cry from the $15 copay for just an adjustment or a $40 cupping charge for each section of your body, I once spent $150 on cupping and now I feel ripped off. I noticed that the last review I wrote just ended unfinished. Dr. Andy changed my life. I had a really severe , recurring pain in the center of my back near my spine. I had tried other chiropractors ( no luck ) orthopedic drs. ( no luck ) , a friend suggested Dr. Andy when he was at Divisidero and Haight, he fixed the problem in 1 visit , and when it recurred, just one visit would do the trick. It was when I locked my neck up that I discovered my chiropractor of many years had retired. A friend recommended Dr. Lesko. It got to the point I couldn't turn my head so I was willing to try anything. The 'office' is definitely not like anywhere I've been before and the experience, prior to the adjustment, is also unique. I went in for my neck, which was pretty easily detectable (I couldn't turn my head, after all). After feeling my spine Dr. Lesko told me L5/S1 was problematic as well (I knew this, having herniated it in 2003 but hadn't mentioned it to him). He adjusted my back and neck and after a few repeat visits my neck was back to normal and I could turn my head. My lower back felt much more mobile as well. The first time I went to Dr Andy he was on Divisadero I went by accidentally was in a bicycle looking for a neighboring business. I saw his window read about him and I tried him. Great move he adjusted me I felt so lose from the hip down coulda been high. I then saw how he treated everyone I saw older women come in an barter with him give him a casserole for some treatment. He is a cool guy . Even I brought in my young son purposely seated him in front of the sign that said art assistant wanted so he could see it . He asked me if I thought he would hire him now he was about 10 years old I told him to ask him. He smiled and said sure. The kid went there every Saturday and helped him with his canvases and running errands etc. was offered adjustments but just took a pizza. This gave him a great role model that he couldn't got anywhere else. So I have been going to Dr Andy off an on for more than 20 years thru three offices and many times. I have no idea where to begin so I'll start with me. I've had recurring back issues for about 20 years. Have had a ruptured disk, surgery, and have regular flare-ups. I *need* a good chiropractor and have been frustrated beyond belief in my attempts to find one in the city. One day I had a REALLY bad flare-up (and a new baby to care for, and a husband out of town for work) and someone recommended Dr. Lesko because his business is walk-in and he always "gets the job done". Going to see Dr. Lesko is a most surreal experience. It's the opposite of what you would expect from a chiropractor. The first time I walked in the door, I thought I was transported to another country. For some reason, Thailand strikes a chord. It looks like an art gallery with a bunch of old chiropractic tables picked up from a yard sale, all lined up beside each other, out in the open. Interesting aromas. Interesting art. There's a crazy magnet machine thumping in the background. I didn't understand half of what was going on in this place, and it didn't feel very medical-officey, but I was in pain and was willing to try anything. Don't expect any chit chat or touchey feely bedside manner. At first, I was a bit frightened by the fact that Dr. Lesko rarely asks me what's bothering me. But I quickly realized that this guy REALLY knows what he's doing. He can feel it. He can fix it. EVERY TIME. It's mind blowing. His adjustments are quick and then he sends over a massage therapist to finish the work. The style of massage varies widely depending on the person performing it, but they have all been spectacular for me so far. Don't be frightened if you find yourself laying face down and suddenly realize that there are elbows on your back and feet on your butt.. that's the Thai massage guy and he ROCKS. I feel like a million bucks after I get the Thai massage. Bottom line, I go in here every time my back is seriously messed up (once every month or two) and he fixes me EVERY time, without fail, and THAT is what is important. I always know that I will fantastic the next day. (As a side note, I don't always feel "healed" when I walk out the door, but I DO feel it the next day after a night of sleep). I usually only need one visit each flare-up. He's extremely affordable and offers different payment plans based on your usage.. You can just walk in, so there's never a question of last-minute availability. Even if you show up late, he'll stay open for you. He's that kind of guy. He wouldn't turn anyone away. Give him a shot next time you're not feeling quite right. The first adjustment is free. You won't regret it. You might feel a little confused when you leave, but your body will feel great. If you're on a budget or just want the convenience of "on demand" chiropractic, this is the chiropractor for you! I have had a stiff neck for years since a car accident and Dr. Andy and his staff really helped me make life bearable again. Andy is very knowledgeable and you can also get Jon's expertise in acupuncture and a varied supply of massage therapists too. They do private sessions for an additional fee. This is easy by bus and foot, but don't try to park your car in Chinatown. Andy has an open workspace so tables are lined up in the main room so not much privacy if you want to discuss your medical condition. And it's also his art studio so you can check out paintings and sculpture and whatever people are working on at the moment, it changes all the time. I have been doing an Ionic footsoak detox and I love it!!! Hours could be better, I would go more often if I felt I could make it there before they close. read more

The smell of old cigarettes overwhelms as you enter. The studio is messy and the overall impression is of scattered energy. No detailed assessment is done - hardly any evaluation before necks cracking. No thanks. Also got zero relief from neck pain, which was correctly fixed by another chiropractor the next day. Suffice it to say, between that time my friend punched me in the face playing basketball, and the time I fell off a moving tank at night in the fog and rain, I've had some back problems. And in my wildest dreams when I lived in Vermont, in the sterile office of my chiro, where the treatment consisted of basically a belt sander, I could not have begun to imagine such a place, no, a temple of healing and artistic beauty as Doc Andy's. As someone wrote before, this place is the real deal. Doc Andy could easily be living at 28 Barbary Lane. I've been going to see him for almost 14 years now. I've seen him when my back was a little sore, and he fixed be up in 1 session. I've seen him when my back was so locked up it felt like I had and arrow sticking into my rib cage, and he saw me twice a day for half a week until I could begin to move again. You know...the kind of back pain where it hurts to breath. Doc Andy is an absolute miracle worker. His prices are always dirt cheap. He definitely muckles right on to you. He puts you in a chair, and cracks you neck to the left and right. Then it's down on the table, where he crosses your arms, and cracks your spine with the momentum of his own body weight. On to the other side! Crack, crack, crack. After the back cracking, he has a rotation of massage therapists who give a 10 minute or so massage for tips. Style of massage varies depending on the therapist. And if all that isn't enough, Doc Andy is also a painter and sculptor, so there is usually some kind of artistic goings-on as well. Dr. Andy is a celebrity in his own rite. He exudes confidence, energy and has the gift of a healer. I messed up my back real bad on 7/4/12 and was in pain. My coworker suggested him after she overheard me worrying about $80 another Chiro was trying to charge me (hey, I had just payed rent...). Dr. Andy is an artist AND chiropractor. His studio has both massage tables and tons of sculptures and paintings. I am the first to say bone popping/cracking is freaking scary, but the pain had to be alleviated. Yup, my neck went crack...and so did my back. In all, I would guess Dr. Andy worked on me for 3 minutes. Then a very nice woman with limited English skills gave me an amazing massage for some 30 minutes. I was in heaven. All this for free. Gratis!! (please tip though!) This was a first for me to do chiropractic adjustment in a 'community' setting (open space with several people worked on at once), but economically it makes sense. Most importantly, IT WORKED!
