I've been taking my son to see Dr. McCarty for a while more to get adjusted (he's 10 months old). He had some tension in his neck that i took him there for. I noticed he also had a slight tilt in his neck and preference to sleep on his left. I finally decided to reach out since her practice was a short walk from my home! Contracting her about my initial concerns was super easy and my son had no problem with her! I was so happy to see that he left happy and comfortable! She explained so much about how birth trauma for infants and mothers. She explained to me the parts she was working on with him. As he grew and developed, we stretched out appointments appropriately. He was always well rested afterwards, good bowel movements and major improvement with gross motor skills which provided me with relief as a first time mom! My experience was similar to what Steve N described. The adjustment was very painful. I went back the next day for help and then had to go find another chiropractor to get rescued. I also have scoliosis and I'm wondering if those of us with it can't handle strong sharp adjustments but have to be treated more gently? If so, it would be important to assess whether someone's spine is scoliotic so as to do more gentle adjusting. Always a pleasure taking my teenage daughter to Dr Davis for an adjustment. She's a pretty active kid, playing soccer, swimming and lugging a guitar for school plus her backpack and that takes a toll on her body. I'm surprised to be writing a bad review given how many 5 stars this practice has, but wow, I had a really bad experience. For some background, I have scoliosis and have seen a good 15 or so different chiropractors through childhood, college and now as an adult. This was probably the worst experience I've ever had. I woke up yesterday with a spasm in my neck and I don't have a current chiropractor in the city. Based on the reviews, I chose Life Chiropractic and they were able to get me in quickly. The office was nice, sleek and inviting. Very kind receptionist and a good atmosphere. That's where anything good ended. My appointment last *literally* 5 minutes. The chiropractor talked to me for about a minute, did a few adjustments and then I was out the door. My neck was acutely painful and so the adjustments and aftermath were both super painful. Now, 24 hours later, it's significantly, significantly worse. I wasn't expecting to be instantly better, but I was disappointed with how short even my initial appointment was and the bad results aren't making me feel better about it. Based on my previous experience, some assisted stretching and massage/manipulation would both have been called for before and after any adjustment. There was none of that, and really no exam to even be able to understand what I needed. Didn't talk to me about my previous experiences, 2 compression fractures of my spine (which were listed in the form you fill out when you get there), anything... I cannot recommend this practice despite their otherwise good reviews. read more

Exactly one year ago, today, Dr. Austin Davis changed my life forever. On January 11 2016, I saw Dr. Austin on a short notice for an acute flare up in my lower back. He took some x-rays, gave me some "general" adjustments, and scheduled me to come back in two days when he'd have the x-ray results. I had seen a chiropractor before for my lower back, but I was left wondering why Dr. Austin adjusted my neck--quite violently--even though there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. So then I did some research, and to my utter disappointment, I found that chiropractors aren't doctors at all. The entire field isn't medically recognized and the practice has no basis at all in science. I felt betrayed. Even worse, not only does chiropractic lack any evidence for treating any medical condition, it also has very serious and life threatening risks, most commonly the risk of the vertebral artery tearing and causing a stroke from a neck manipulation. Despite my newfound knowledge, I decided to go back, since he was so nice to see me on short notice. Besides, chiropractic helped my lower back before, it should be fine as long as he doesn't touch my neck. Couldn't hurt right? Well, it turned out to be the worst single decision in my life and I couldn't be more wrong. January 13 2016, I stepped into Dr. Austin's office. As he was about to start, I told him "Please do not adjust my neck" and he responded with a simple "OK." He adjusted my back a few times, then he moved to my neck. I remembered this moment with vivid clarity, as it was the shortest single moment that changed my life forever. He delivered a few taps to my neck on the right side. I thought "OK. I just need to get through this and I'll be out of here forever." Wrong. In a flash, without warning, he twisted my neck to the right. Something popped, and it did not feel right. As I left his office, I suddenly felt light headed. I couldn't see clearly. The left side of my face started tingling and it felt like it was blacking out. That day, I was unable to concentrate. I couldn't look at my monitor and reading was a challenge. I excused myself and went home to sleep, hoping this would resolve itself in the morning. The next morning the dizziness was gone, but every time I turned my head to the left there is a click in my neck. Moreover, I couldn't turn my head as smoothly, as if there is a muscle that is overly tense and won't let go. I called Dr. Austin. He told me not to worry as this is just my body adjusting to the results of chiropractic and that it is completely normal. What started as a little harmless clicking and some tension in my neck turned into nightmare. The tension turned into pain. The pain spread down my spine, then down my left arm, then across my entire upper back. I lost some of the sensation in my left arm and also some control, as I found I couldn't type as fast as I used to. I can no longer take deep breaths as every time it's as if someone stuck a knife though my back. Every morning I wake up with throbbing burning pain in both my shoulders. I am in my mid-twenties. I was healthy, athletic, and passionate. I danced and practiced martial arts. Most importantly, I was always full of energy to do anything. Over this past year, I am no longer any of those. I feel like I'm 40. Everyday is pain. I have no more energy. Nothing excites me anymore. I stopped caring. I lost sympathy. I became indifferent. All I wanted to do was to do nothing. I tried everything: physical therapy, muscle relaxers, massages, acupuncture, you name it. Out of desperation I even went back to chiropractic (not here of course.) Nothing worked and no one was able to give me an answer. On top of the physical pain, I struggled mentally with my situation. I went though all five stages of grief, multiple times, there and back again. Today, I'm not upset anymore. I've come to terms with my current situation and accepted it. I told myself I am lucky to be alive still, unlike so many other victims of chiropractic who never made it. I told myself not to blame Dr. Austin for what happened. I believe he is truly a caring person and has the best intentions to improve your well being. The problem is the chiropractic institution itself. It is an establishment built upon false marketing and profit making, by capitalizing and taking advantage of patients' pain and desperation, even if that means the use of unwarranted and dangerous treatment such as the neck adjustment. Dr. Austin is just another individual who subscribed to this institution, taught to believe that this is a true and better way of healing. I know this all sounds like conspiracy theory. I'm not asking you to believe me. I'm asking you to wake up and ask questions. Do you own research. Look this stuff up. On my first day of consultation, Dr. Austin was great at finding what was causing my neck pain (through a series of checks and X-ray), and we have set a treatment plan to correct my issues. I've been going here a few years now and love this place. I'm not the best at keeping appointments/pre scheduling anything and I appreciate the fact that Dr. Davis takes walk ins. I really don't know if I would have been able to see him as often if I couldn't just drop in when I had time. Yes, there usually is a little wait when you just drop in but I honestly wouldn't care if it was an hour lol. It usually isn't more than 10-15 min. So if you have a hectic life and that's your issue just know it's allowed. What an incredible experience. Not only was Greta able to squeeze me in as a new patient, she was super flexible with me. Update on my visit to Life Chiro in SF I first saw Dr. Austin Davis in January while in a lot of pain and sickness, hating life because I felt so awful. Since that initial visit I have seen him 4 times for head to toe adjustments (especially neck and back, hands) and his wellness talks at the office on Saturday, March 2. Yet again, what a great experience! The talk made understanding the connection between overall wellness and central nervous/skeletal system so easy to digest (good refresher if you need it) and reminded me why we do good things to our bodies--to get well and stay well. Dr. Davis' treatment table manners are professional and friendly, not intrusive or condescending at all. I felt like I was learning about me with the help of a tour guide. We don't come with instruction manuals so any help we get goes a long way provided that you listen, learn and practice. We laughed a little, learned a lot, got to know each other as business professionals and as people. That counts for so much in a pre-packed, pseudo-convenient, topical world. Knowing who is helping you along is as important as knowing what you are eating or drinking. It's all about getting your health in order, not about who's the cheapest, fastest, closest or easiest to access. A great practitioner is essential in staying on track, so knowing who Dr. Austin Davis is, what he is passionate about and what he envisions for my health makes the work I have to do on my end more meaningful. I visited Life Chiropractic for my lumbar pain. It was terrible Chiropractic place I have never been. Life Chiropractic does not accept insurance. Exam was 1~2mints (was really short), and they took $80. Adjustment was 1~2mints( was really short), and they took $50. They even did not check my insurance and did not provide any possible insurance information for payment. I kept asking, but they just ignored and took $130 from my credit card. Yes, of course my pain does not go away. Really unprofessional place I have never been. And I totally do not understand how Life Chiropractic has so much of good reviewes. read more

Wow! I had never been to a chiropractor before and it was the best medical experience of my life! I messed up the muscles in my lower back after attempting a deadlift yesterday, and my roommate recommended Dr. Davis. I was skeptical, since I've heard that chiropractors can do more harm than help, but nothing could be further from the truth! After not being able to bend at the waist and being in so much pain I cried from simply trying to wash my face, I went to Life Chiropractic. The office is clean and bright, very welcoming. A lot of clients were coming in too, which was a good sign. Dr. Davis introduced himself right away and promptly took me to a room down the hall. He explained the nature of chiropractics in that he works to increase communication in the body. Sounds good to me! He realigned my hips, my neck, and more! Dependable and knowledgable! Dr. Davis has helped me get through some serious injuries. First off he helped get through a Piriformis injury with awesome stretching technique ideas and weekly adjustments. My first and last chiropractor because he's the best. He's really patient when hearing us out and seems to care about little things. I never took chiropractics seriously before but it seems to work (at least it did for my SO and me). Open on Saturday and so thankful that they were because my hip went out right before I arrived in SF for vacation. Couldn't walk very well so I called at 9am Saturday and they got me in at 945. The doc is friendly and quickly knew what I needed, which was a basic lower back adjustment with what people call the pretzel move. It was fast and easy and effective!
