I had been going regularly for years, then I moved away and stopped going to the dentist at all, and when I returned I had a LOT of work to do. They welcomed me back with no judgement as if I had never left. Now I am thankfully back on track. He has the most gentle touch, even as he's scraping tartar below your gum line. I've seen him twice for the standard x-rays and cleanings, and both times I almost fell asleep in the dentist chair. I've had pedicures that were more painful than my dental visits with Dr. Kristallis. He has a calm, friendly demeanor that sets you at ease during your visit. I also have to give a shout-out to his office manager, who helped me figure out my dental insurance and is a delight to interact with. Finally, the office also uses modern technology which allows you to confirm appointments online and sends reminders via text. Ann, his secretary, is fantastic. She knows her stuff and is ultra friendly. She handled all of the insurance and billing and I had no problem with this. Dr. Kristallis's office was very clean and welcoming. I really liked the hygenist and she was quite gentle, which I appreciated. Dr. Kristallis himself is great! I find that most dentists are quite rushed, but he stopped and talked and I did not feel that he was in a rush to go see the next patient. Furthermore, I was cavity and problem free- the opposite of what I had heard from the previous dentist. I appreciated that he did not try to do non-necessary services to earn an extra buck. Dr. Kristallis & staff are just fabulous. I have recommended them to multiple friends. I have yet to leave a dentist actually smiling and happy.... But I did with Dr. Kristallis. I was a student new to the area, when I started having tooth pain and my mom randomly looked yo places and told me to come here. After getting a filling, I later discovered the dentist had sealed two of my teeth together, making it impossible to floss between them. A few days after paying $300, they suddenly claimed I owed another $300 because my insurance "didn't cover as much as they thought." When I called my insurance, I learned that was not true. And based on other reviews, it seems like this is a recurring issue here. Within a two months, the tooth they worked on BROKE off, which led to needing a root canal, and I've continued to have pain and problems ever since -- all stemming from this one terrible visit. Years of great dental health were completely derailed by one incompetent appointment. I wish I had done my own research instead of going with the random place my mom picked. If you're reading this, please be careful -- buyer beware.

As for booking appointments, it's easy and not so stressful. I can always book an appointment that fits my schedule and if I need to make any change such as coming in earlier, they're willing to accommodate. I went home with way too much anesthetics injected into my mouth. It was numb for hours to the point I was drooling and really had to wait a long time to eat as I was warned that it could be dangerous to eat with a numb mouth in case I bit my cheek or something and couldn't feel it. I was so upset I never came back and wrote the previous review only to have someone from the clinic claim that I'm not even in their patient system. Really convenient. Fast forward more time - I receive an email reminder for an upcoming appointment and it says that I cannot email for cancelation and must call in. I called and they are closed on a Friday at 3pm. I did not make this appointment but clearly I'm in their system somewhere. This is ridiculous. I left a voicemail when prompted on the phone to state that I did not schedule this appointment and want it canceled. If I get charged for this, I'll be sure to challenge and escalate this.

They didn't realized I was a new patient which I had mentioned when originally scheduling and when confirming appointment but they needed to reschedule for more time. I arrived at my rescheduled appointment early to complete all paperwork and provide dental insurance...was never mentioned I was out of network until scheduling additional appointments. I called insurance regarding coverage and then called office back and canceled future appointments. I was given an apology over the phone and I indicated that apology is a little late when I now know there will be an expensive bill out of pocket for a 6 month cleaning and yearly x-rays. What is most frustrating is that I was asked upfront if I want a mouth cancer screening for $15 which I agreed to have done and pay today but was not told I was out of network. I was even asked about when last fillings were done and if I had a high deductible plan and yet staff clearly knew I was out of network. Clients beware because I was informed I had 15 fillings on teeth that needed to be worked on yet I get cleanings done every 6 months. They were basing a lot off x-rays of older fillings and after discussing details was told well we'll have to see if the cavity is just minimal or early stages below the old filling. So replacing fillings because they are old seems silly with the expense and minimal confidence. I even asked for a priority of work if it needed to be done. It was indicated on my military paperwork that work would not need to be done within the next 12 months. Steer clear of this place!

He is probably the only dentist in the DC area who has flexible fees. Although I was 65 (but still working) and he took my dental insurance, he gave me a senior discount in addition to a 10% standard discount. I had to have an upper denture and the cost was very affordable. He takes a lot of time in fitting and seems to get it right the first time. Dr. Cave is young and is building a practice but he definitely has his own way of doing business. He is truly unique and independent. I am now living in a retirement home in Silver Spring and cannot make the trip into DC to see him. I will have to make other arrangements for a dentist but Dr. Cave has spoiled me for anyone else.
