My experience of this practice sadly deteriorated since its leader Dr Daniel Deutsch retired in late 2022. Dr Deutsch took excellent care of me for over 25 years, but no one bothered to consult me about his replacement who had good skills but a jarring personal manner. When I advised I was leaving -- and had to remind three times -- no one called to ask why I was doing do. This practice is unfortunately overpriced. I had paid much more because of Dr Deutsch's high quality care, but $2500 for one crown (compared to $1500 in the practice I now use) could not be justified with his replacement. read more

I used to go to this practice and see Dr. Deutch when I lived in DC and it was wonderful. I recommended them to my father and he saw Dr. Deutch until he retired then saw other dentists in the practice from time to time. His most recent visit was for a broken tooth, they did a quick fix, charged him $300 for it and it fell out within a few hours. I contacted them and asked them to refund his money since their fix didn't even last a day, and they refused. He is 90 years old and feels taken advantage of by being over charged for poor quality work that did not even last one day, then being refused a refund for it. This is a great place to go for dental appointments--my hygenist was one of the best I've had. Unfortunately i was charged $395 for a basic cleaning and X-Rays...because my insurance was out of network. They never told me until AFTER the appointment--and i gave my insurance info upfront (which is a PPO). $395 for a basic cleaning and XRay was a big surprise. I've been a patient of Washington center for Dentistry for a while and I always have an amazing experience. My last visit at Washington center for Dentistry was the BEST experience ever!! The dental team that took care of me was Dr Shlansky and Teresa. I am so thankful for how both Dr Shlansky and Teresa noticed how nervous I was from the beginning . They explained everything to me, like when I would feel pressure or before they started to "drill" on my tooth. During my procedure my team always checked my comfort level and explained what was happening next. Not only did they explain to me what was happening but also why my tooth ended up needing my procedure. Washington center for dentistry is superior to any Dentists I've ever been to. The Center is so state of the art with all of the latest dental technology. The treatment room was beautiful, and modern!! The office is beautifully decorated. I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Rinaldi, he's very friendly, knowledgeable and trustworthy dentist which is hard to find. I took one star off because they don't take insurance. That's their right, but they should be transparent on pricing. I called and asked how much a cleaning without x-rays is and got one price but at my appointment my bill was $100 higher! That should be a flat rate that they should post on their website. Just read MJ V. review which said an evaluation was tacked on to their cleaning, I wonder if that is what happened to me? Either way that should be included in the price quoted for a cleaning to a new patient. I asked the front desk about the price for something else and couldn't get an answer. Disclaimer: This review is for RAQUEL the receptionist who is the reason why I'm rating this dental practice a 4/5 rather than my originally intended 1 star. It's really unfortunate, you see, that they are very vague and inexplicit about their claims/insurance policy. They have a beautiful clinic with all sorts of accommodations. Staff and Dr. Katsons were extremely helpful and friendly. However I am new to the DC area, and when I asked the lady whom I talked to on the phone inquiring about insurance plans, she made it seem like Aetna (my insurance) was a form of payment at the clinic. No one EVER mentioned paying out of pocket up front, no one explicitly stated that they were out of network. I only figured that out as I was leaving. $500 up front for X-rays and cleaning? (Keep in mind I came in and asked to see a doctor regarding my wisdom tooth-- I didn't want cleaning, I'm in pain!). Ummm, what!? Maybe it's a California thing, but I didn't understand the insurance policy situation. It seemed like the woman whom I talked to on the phone was just trying to set me up with an appointment, "Oh yeah we take Aetna!" Yes, you take Aetna.. but not really. Raquel was incredibly sweet, took the time to explain the situation with my frantic mother, and filed the claim through Aetna for me. She was extremely accommodating, and could tell I was really confused. So thank you Raquel!!! I'm sure I just misunderstood, but she cleared the air quickly and took care of all the insurance claims/hassle. She's a sweetie. Just beware that they are in fact out of network, because that wasn't explicitly mentioned prior to my appointment. And make sure they know exactly what you're coming in for-- cleaning is routine, I know, but in the end I only got a referral to yet another out of network doctor. Despite my repeated attempts to ask them not to do so, WCD insists on sending a barrage of emails, text messages and voicemails a few days before your appointment. I wish I could say that I had the same treatment as the others, which I did not. I had the unfortunate experience of being an Invisalign patient with this practice. Dr. Deutsche never bothered to look at my teeth when I went in for appointments. When I made plans to move out of the area, I had a horrible time getting them to call me back or respond to my emails. Keep in mind, they had my $7,000 up front in their pocket at this point. It took me several months for them to pay out, and when they did, they took all but 25% of the money, leaving me thousands short to pay my new dentist. I got to the point where I was trying to call Deutsche on his cell phone. One day he rudely said to me, "I'm not going to give you the money." I was shocked. Most surprising was the difference in treatment at my new dentist. I received completely thorough examinations when I visited, with measurements and a careful evaluation as to my current status. There were several aspects of the package that came free through Invisalign that had never been explained to me at the Washington Center for Dentistry, such as bleaching. Now I sadly have to take legal action against them. Don't go to this dentist office that disguises itself as a creme-de-la-creme one-stop shop but is only interested in one thing -- how big of a check will you write for them that they plan to keep no matter what happens? I don't take one star reviews lightly. That being said, if I could I would give the washington center for dentistry negative 5 stars for extremely poor quality treatment and terrible customer service. First- quality. I paid $6K out of pocket for invisalign with Dr Deutch. He made an error in my treatment and over corrected my teeth to the point that my teeth became crooked again!! I asked what was going on many times but it took months before he admitted he made a mistake. I had to go through 3 additional months of treatments to fix the overcorrection. Service: now for the really bad part. I'm human, and after 4 years I lost my maintenance retainers. So I called and asked them to order me a new set. This is what they said: "sorry, there is nothing we can do". I am not kidding. After days of back and fourth apparently these people are so awful they can't just reorder my last set of retainers. I have called several other offices about this and they all have said that it should be a simple reorder. JUST REORDER MY LAST SET OF RETAINERS! Well, because they are so unhelpful I now have to pay $500 to get a new set. And the kicker is that they never even gave me my final set of retainers when i finished my treatment so they still owe me one. I am absolutely appalled by the way I have been treated and I advise anyone considering this center to look elsewhere. They are overpriced and rude and should be out of business. Beware. They don't accept insurance. When I called for the appointment, the receiptionist did not make it clear. She phrased it like so: "We accept payment from the patients and then file the insurance claims forms for you." Well that's code for we're out of network and your not getting anything back. But when you schedule a routine cleaning, you are forced to pay for an evaluation as well despite having had an annual checkup 6 months previously and having healthy teeth/gums. In my recent visit I expressly stated before the start of the cleaning that I only wanted the cleaning. I was only seen by the technician who did the cleaning. Upon checkout, I was also charged for the evaluation despite not having been seen by my dentist. When I protested, I was told this is their policy. Judge for yourself, I'll just describe my experience. This office has made 3 major mistakes for me in the past year: 1) They input my insurance information wrong, insisted that I did it wrong (poor customer service alert!), told me to go to the insurance company... and the whole time, they'd made a typo. This is inexcusable because I'd pointed it out, and they had my husband's insurance info (identical to mine) on file. Also - they don't take insurance, and it took me a year to get my reimbursement. 2) I scheduled an appointment for 1pm on Saturday, and without telling me, they changed it to 12pm. They did not tell me, until I was rushing over to make it on Saturday. 3) I scheduled an appointment and called the previous day to cancel, and they told me it had already been cancelled. I did NOT make such a call, nor do I (clearly) have a very common name. Now here's the part where I state an opinion: We're human, we make mistakes, and maybe I'm just the low-probability case of three separate people on three separate terrible days. We all have them. I get it. But that being said, it's not about making mistakes, it's about how you deal with them right? There's no communication or restitution for these mistakes. They completely overcharge for service, which they bill at the time of the service, leaving you to get reimbursed from your insurance company. And sInce they charge well above the norm, it is likely you'll be stuck with a portion of the bill; e.g.' they charged my wife $465 for a simple cleaning. I have visited the practice many times. The dentists that I have seen are great. However, the front desk left a bad taste in my mouth, so to speak. The deadpan receptionist refused to tell me or look into, who had set my appointment one day prior. I was quoted a price for a yearly cleaning. When I went to pay, I was also billed for an evaluation and fluoride treatment. This should have been explained as additional charges prior to treatment. Overall, I really enjoy Washington Center for Dentistry. It's a bit expensive (especially if you don't have dental insurance -- which I'm unsure if they even accept), but I've found the cost to be very worthwhile for the level of care and attention I've received. Also, they're open until 6pm and 8pm some nights, so it's great for appointments after work. Dentist: I see Dr. Fordjour and really like him. He's very soft-spoken and mild-mannered and is extremely polite and professional. He has a warm demeanor and makes the visit to the dentist not so terrible. He always takes the time to answer my questions and concerns, and he gives me really realistic and fully detailed answers which I appreciate. In the past, I've had dentists who just rush in and do a BS check after the hygienist finishes the teeth cleaning, but Dr. Fordjour actually pays attention and cares during his time with you. He checks in with you about old concerns I had during past visits to make sure they're either gone or to see if he needs to readdress them. I highly recommend him -- he's a great dentist. Dental Hygienists: I've seen three different hygienists and they're all wonderful. The teeth cleanings are insanely fast and thorough, and I haven't once had a painful teeth cleaning. They're all down to earth and polite people. They also have pretty high-tech stuff in the offices, so you can actually WATCH your mouth and teeth being cleaned on a TV screen in front of you (one of the tools they use has a camera attached, so it's insanely cool to see a tour of your mouth). Front Desk: Not amazing, not terrible. They check you in fast and then relegate you to the waiting area. They're not uber friendly per se, but they aren't rude either. Office atmosphere: This place really is like a spa. There's a free fridge with different juices and water. Free chapsticks and free hand sanitizers to take with you when you go. Free copies of New Beauty magazine which is usually like, $20 to buy from a newsstand or at the drug store. Everyone is really friendly and it's pretty damn relaxing for a dentist office. My biggest complaint is sometimes you have to wait a bit to see the dentist after your teeth cleaning. My last visit I had to wait 30 minutes for him to come in (not his fault, just overbooked and crowded that day), but it was frustrating. Whenever there's a long wait though they send in a dental tech or hygienist to talk to you and pass the time through conversation, which is nice, but I'd rather see the dentist and get out. read more

Overall: way, way too expensive and sales-y; poor admin work. I made an initial appointment, and then called and changed it. I got three separate calls from the office confirming my previous appointment time, and asking why I wasn't there. After I explained to everyone that I had changed the time, when I arrived for my actual appointment, I was down for procedures that had nothing to do with the services I needed. I saw Dr. Deutsch. He was fine, but gruff, and given my fear of the dentist, not really comforting. The sound of drills and cleaning is all through the office, and none of the exam rooms have doors. Let me just sing the praises of this place!! First, let me start by saying that yes, it's a tad pricey but it's well worth it. Second, let me say that I LOATHE the dentist. I really hate everything about going. These guys are the best. As I said, I have a really intense aversion to the dentist due to some awful experiences as a kid. Dr. Rinaldi is the best, he's very gentle and SO nice. When I walked in, I was given a tour of the facility and I received a gift (who doesn't like gifts?!). Saundra took me back to the exam room (or whatever they call it) and chatted me up about my teeth, my watch, my life...she was really nice. Kind of reminds me of an auntie or a close friend of my moms. Anyhow, she made me feel super comfortable. Dr. Rinaldi came in and I was in love. He asked me what I wanted and then told me how he could make it happen. 3 days later...I had a killer smile! The procedure required Novocain, which didn't make me happy, but he was so gentle, I didn't even realize he'd injected it until he moved his hand. Everyone in the office is super professional. And the location of the office gives me a lot to look at while I wait for them to call me back. OH! And they will play your choice of music for you while you get your smile worked on. read more

This place is deceptive and does not accept insurance! I called the office to find out if they accept Metlife, and was told that they do. It was only when I got to the office for my appointment, that I was told they are out-of-network and only "work" with Metlife. I would have to pay up front (for a standard cleaning - $317) and MetLife would reimburse me. I was considering leaving, but was told by all of the receptionists to stay because I was already there, try them out and just see how much I would end up paying. I went to talk with the dental assistant, who spoke to an office manager, who was able to pull up my Metlife insurance plan. They both sat with me, showed me that my insurance would cover 80% of the cleaning, and then explicitly said that I would pay about $54 after insurance. Based on this estimate, I decided to stay. However, about a week later, I was reimbursed by Metlife and had to pay about $80 for the standard cleaning. The office is pretty and comfortable, but they're not transparent about their insurance policy, and their charges are over the top expensive. They think they can provide services that no one else can provide (like a cleaning?) and that justifies their cost, but they are deceptive and you would be better off going somewhere else. read more

Hard to tell if this is a dentist's office or a spa. From the moment you walk into the place, you see a super modern, clean, well appointed reception area complete with juices & bottled water. Every single member of the staff that passes you smiles and greets you, whether they are treating you or not. It's a really welcoming and professional place, which is reassuring and instills confidence. I've been to 3 dentists in DC prior to finding this place and my experience with them was horrible. The first set a rookie dentist on me to give me a bunch of fillings before firing him and asking me to come in so they could right their wrongs. No thanks! The other two had old, antiquated office space & run-of-the-mill service from staff. Dr. Doctors is fantastic and highly capable. You can just tell you're in the hands of a true professional. I had a really difficult filling that needed to be replaced and he handled it so well. He's also really friendly. Only downside is that you've got to pay up front for services and then wait for your insurance provider to reimburse you, which is hit or miss. I called my insurance company to see what % of the treatment I was going to receive would be covered and they said 80%, so I went with it only to get a check for 25% of the treatment. Now I have to go back to them and that's a hassle. But, to have good teeth and the feeling of trusting your dentist is worth it, I suppose! read more

This is an excellent cosmetic dentist. Dr. Rinaldi is a true perfectionist and an artist, and very easy to work with. His dental and procedural assistants are also excellent. The front desk staff is always friendly and they seem to always be ready to go and on time. My new upper veneers were not cheap, but they are beautiful and I will wear them every day for many years. My first set of veneers lasted 18 years - then never failed, we just removed them for the new set. I have not tried this doctor as a regular dental patient, but I think I will. read more

This is the best dental practice I have ever been too. Top notch all the way. I don't really know how to describe it other then, I wasn't sure if I was in a dental office or a spa. Awesome. I flaked and forgot to fill out the forms online so I was totally expecting to have to spend another 20 minutes filling out paper forms, wasting my time, but NO! They have free internet and computers you can use OR they handed me the Ipad to do it on. Pretty SWEET! Once the forms were filled out, I got the tour (YES, A TOUR!) and then was guided to my dental tech. I still wasn't sure I wasn't also getting a massage. The dental tech was great. Professional, personably and kind. She also really seemed to like her job and the place she worked which is also a nice change from my last dentist who didn't even HAVE a tech to do cleanings and xrays. She asked alot of questions and while I do not have any dentist nightmares of lore, I can rest assured it will stay that way for a long time! Pretty sure this is my dental practice for life, even if I move. The only catch, which I can imagine is hard for many people, is that you pay upfront and get reimbursed by your insurance. I'm ok with that but I don't know many people who can be out that cash up front. I would recommend saving your pennies though, this dentist is TOTALLY WORTH IT. read more

Post-COVID-19, I've been dreading going to the dentist but finally broke down and made an appointment to get my teeth cleaned recently at Washington Center For Dentistry. I was really impressed with how streamlined and efficient they were about taking proper precautions to make sure patients felt safe and healthy. The waiting room had designated seating areas ensuring people were six feet apart, there were hand sanitizing stations and my hygienist was patient, kind and very empathetic toward me feeling comfortable. They even had special equipment they used while cleaning my teeth -- I think it helped suck away air particles in the space between me and my hygienist, not sure. All in all, it was one of the better environments I've been in for medical reasons since the pandemic started. Kudos to their team for so thoughtfully and carefully setting everything up and following guidance to prevent the spread of Covid-19. read more

This place is expensive, but well worth it. I've never had such great dental health or felt so competent in taking care of my teeth. The office is very well-designed. They make an effort to make sure you are comfortable. There are water bottles and juice boxes in the mini fridge, a great view, and computers to use while you wait. I love how WCD uses technology. On your first visit, you fill out your forms on an iPad. In the exam rooms, there is a monitor facing the seat. The hygienist takes photos or x-rays of your teeth and those images come up on the monitor. The hygienist and the dentist then reference these photos as they talk to you about your teeth. Very helpful! I usually just nod along when the dentist tells me sometg about my teeth, but now I can actually see what they're talking about and it has made me so much more proactive in my dental health. When I've had more extensive work down, I was brought a warm, wet towel after the procedure to freshen up my mouth and face at the sink. I've never had that kind of service at a dentist before! Much appreciated. I read a few negative reviews here. That is expected since the office is run by humans, but I was still kind of surprised. I have it had any cosmetic work done there though, so I cannot comment on that. It is pricey. I am a young person early in my career, not making buckets of money, but I think it is worth the price. You do have to pay up front, but they send the claim to your insurance. I have read a review that said they don't do this, but I have not have that problem. Yesterday the receptionist said, "I'm sending your claim electronically right now." I also read that people felt that insurance was frowned upon there, but please know that that is to the general attitude of the office. Maybe that person had a rare interaction with a snooty receptionist (whom I've never come across at the office, they've all been very nice). I highly recommend this place if you don't typically like the dentist experience. They will make you very comfortable. Doctor Doctors RULES! Besides the fact that his name is Dr. Doctors, he's a great... well.. dentist! This is my general dentist and he practices at the Washington Center for Dentistry. He is SO funny and sweet, and is also very talented. He listens to killer music while he works on you too. Dr. Doctors is just the kind of guy you'd want to hang out and drink some beers with. He has a warm smile and a good hand shake. He is almost always jovial, but he's way serious about his work. He keeps you informed and is good to talk you through things. What's better is that he is GREAT with Novocaine shots. I am the biggest wuss ever and I hardly feel it when he does it. While he's working on you, he chats to you and makes you feel distracted and welcome. It's just so nice not to have someone be hostile or cold when they are causing you horrible amounts of discomfort anyway. If something terrible does happen, like, oh, say.. a CAVITY, he is really communicative about it. And not just with you, but with his entire team. You just feel like everyone knows what's up and the best way to address your problem. He has a good relationship with his technicians. They know him well and they work as a team. I think this is a good thing because when they are prepping me, I always have confidence that they are not just a cog that doesn't know what else is being done to me. That is important for me to feel like I can trust the procedure. His work is clean and professional and his personality is warm and fun. He knows his stuff and communicates it well to his patients. I changed dental practices after coming to Dr. Rinaldi for a second opinion. I am very glad I made that decision. I can go on and on about the aesthetics of the office; however that is not what impressed me. I was so impressed from the care I received from my hygienist (Anya) both dental and emotional (I have a complex medical history that makes the dentist terrifying). Dr. Rinaldi once again, impressed me with his chair-side manner and helping me decide my plan of care. The only downside is that it is fee-for-service, which can make a visit a little pricy (mine was $350), but they filed a claim immediately with my insurance company.
