Please get a second opinion before getting work done here...After paying over $2,000 for a root canal, they told me I needed a $1,400 crown and 4 different procedures (all priced individually) done. Once I went to a different dentist and got X-rays done days later, they told me my teeth were perfectly fine. My gut feeling was right. After reading the reviews on here (I can confirm), DO NOT go here. I came to this "boutique" dentistry in December for an end of the year cleaning (before my insurance benefit expired). They over-charge me and told me that I needed treatments that were not needed or required. I took off work for a "cleaning" and instead got a TWO HOUR conciliation about me needing a "deep cleaning" for $600 (not covered by my insurance) -- which is MetLife. Then had the audacity, to ask when could they could schedule me for my cleaning treatment!?! Little did they know, my sister is a dentist in Chicago and I had them email my X-RAYS to her for a second opinion (oh and they charge $35 for that). Please don't fall victim to the "fast talking Dr and cleaning technicians". I've never been so annoyed in my life. When I visited their office the dentist was rude and berated the dental assistant. I paused thinking they were joking before coming to terms with the dentist being that openly rude and arrogant. They told me I wouldn't owe anything for the visit and then billed me varying amounts (while blaming an intern) a year and a half later. Their billing department is a big disappointment -- like others are saying, I was mailed a big bill for two procedures that happened almost a year before -- a crown replacement and routine fillings. One turned out to be a "mistake" since my insurance had already paid it. The other is still up in the air -- my insurance said the office submitted the wrong code/description. The worst part is that they randomly sent me an email saying that this was my second notice/email about these bills -- it was not; I am a professor and clear my inbox every day. Avoid at all costs, visited twice with no problems, just a soft pitch for removing an orthodontic bar. I came in for a cleaning and then tried to rush me for a $550 unnecessary X-ray. Then they tried to push an expensive gum procedure on me for NINE teeth (no pain, no previous dentist mentioned this to me). The "doctor" who was quite rude and unprofessionall asked me some unpleasant questions like "oh my where did u do ur teeth?" - made me to make CT scan, and this decision took like a couple of hours. Normally I don't write reviews, but I felt compelled to share my story to give insight to those who may come from a lower income or non-elite status background. During my first consultation here I was told that I had a large cavity in my molar and will be needing a crown and possibly a root canal subsequently. This whole "crown/root canal" idea was new to me, so I tried to ask Dr. Ardekani about the process, but he said that the front desk lady will go over everything with me. I assumed he was backed up because he seemed very dismissive and rather impatient. During my 2nd appointment while Dr. Ardekani was drilling my cavity, he told his assistant "Gosh, I never know what you are saying half the time". His tone the entire time was demanding and demeaning to the point I felt bad for the assistant and felt uncomfortable to be there. He finished the procedure and told me I needed a root canal. Since i've never gotten a root canal, I asked him what that would that would be like. Again, his tone felt so rushed while educating me and almost annoyed. It is important for him to understand while this is so routine for him that this may be intimidating and new for others. Shortly after I made an appointment at the end of the visit, I called back within 5 minutes to ask if they could hold off on my appointment since I needed time to think about my finances. The front desk lady annoyingly told me "you don't have a choice it's not like you can't get the root canal". For the record, I am a graduate student who was charged $350 for the filling, $1500 for the crown, and now had to pay $1760 for the root canal out of pocket. All I was asking for was a little time to clear my head space and to receive that attitude was off-putting. I was turned off by the practice altogether and wanted to get a root canal elsewhere. After consulting some friends and colleagues, I was able to find a practice who could do a root canal 40% less of the cost. There are endodontists who charge around $1700 located right outside of DC in the MD & VA area while Dr. Ardekani is a general dentist who charges a similar range. FYI this is located in DC, so you will be up-charged a premium for the location. I was able to get my root canal done just 15 minutes away from DC and was so pleasantly impressed by the other dentist's attention to detail, patient education, and bedside manner. I returned back to DC Pearls to get my crown fitted. There was a stark difference in Dr. Ardekani's approach compared to the other dentist. The way Dr. Ardekani interacted with me and handled my teeth felt almost reckless and again, his tone towards his assistant was rude. He gave me two seconds to assess my bite with the new crown and was already halfway out the door when he asked "any questions?". I asked him is there a chance for any complications such as the crown breaking aka will it last a life time? He annoyingly told me "..nothing lasts a lifetime" and that he will give me a new crown if it breaks within 2 years, but generally it's something to be monitored. Then he finished it off by saying "you have two other cavities by the way" and left. I was not asking him "to hold my hand" ever, but his rushed and "eye rolling" attitude since day 1 really rubbed off in a bad way. If he had just given TWO minutes of his time to take the initiative and provide patient education about possible complications and risks from a simple script he could've probed some questions in the right direction and provide some insight. He came back to me later and said "Sorry if you felt rushed. I was trying to understand your question about something lasting a lifetime". I regretted asking the question and was so over it at that point. I am not doubting that he provides excellent service based on his reviews, which is why I chose to come here. However, I am now well versed that Dr. Ardekani is selective in who he chooses to give time and respect, which is probably for the high end balling patients who frequent the practice. Everyone else including the hygienist, dental assistants, and some of the front desk staff were so pleasant and nice. I don't mean to slander a practice, but I will speak up when I feel something is wrong. I won't ever forget how rushed, uncomfortable, and disrespected I felt here. read more

I have had some seriously awful experiences at this dentist. Every visit I've had to wait for at least 45 minutes. No regard for anyones time or emotions. First visit they told me I would need about five appointments worth of work. Each appointment they'd give me some terrifying information and then rush me out. But not before asking me again if I wanted to buy Invisalign for thousands of dollars. One time I was supposed to get two cavities filled. They were over an hour late and then someone numbed me then they told me that they didn't have time to fill the cavities and that I would have to come back. So they numbed for nothing. After that I went to a different dentist and they said they didn't even see any cavities. Save your money and peace of mind and go to a different dentist. Or at least get a second opinion before letting dc pearls do any procedures because there's a good chance they're swindling you. read more

I generally like DC Pearls but was super disappointed with my last visit. I went as everything was reopening with COVID precautions. They did alright with the waiting room, though it is small, but my dentist took his mask off during the consultation and attempted to "elbow bump" without his mask on. For someone seeing tons of patients every day this is super unsafe! Additionally, I wasn't told that the dentist I normally see was no longer with the practice until after I arrived. I would have liked the option to cancel and find another dentist as I really liked her and went to dc pearls for her. Instead I was seen by the owner of the practice who was much more gruff and curt. While I'm sure his demeanor is fine for others I didn't appreciate it. I did love my hygienist though and thought she was great. read more

Felt like I was being upsold on getting a custom made teeth grinder (which upon going to my new dentist was viewed as unnecessary) my gums were in way more pain during/after the visit than before. Just felt like a problem was being created or exaggerated for sales. Also, being in the service industry and just having had a lot of bosses, it really bummed me out to see the doc be rude to his staff. That right there marked the end of my time there. This place seems like a huge scam. I went in for a routine check-up and cleaning. They took a bunch of fancy radiographic pictures and then told me I needed a deep cleaning that would cost $1000. They would not even do the routine cleaning. When I got a bill, the cost of the pictures was $530 and I didn't even get a cleaning done. This exceeded my Delta dental insurance maximum and now I have to pay a bunch of it out-of-pocket. The atmosphere of the place and the dentist feels like a car dealership that wants to squeeze you for money. Avoid! read more

1-Too many people being seen at the same time. I had to go back four times as a filling was not properly shaved down to fit my jaw, as every time I went in, I got very little time and attention in fixing the issue. 2-The main issue however was when I crown was put in instead of simply a filling, which continues a full year and half later which is when I write this review to cause a lot of sensitivity. I did over 3 fillings with this dentist and 1 crown and was getting a feeling that a lot of issues he wanted to fix were over the top. I went in for the first time after scheduling an appointment over the phone. They were able to get me in next day for a cleaning and a consultation. The office is easy to get to with plenty of street parking around. The office is very small, but clean. The staff at the front desk were friendly. I didn't wait very long to be brought back but the hygienist apologized for my wait. She was very kind and gave me information that was easy to understand and was very thorough. The Dr came in afterwards and let me know the procedures that I would need done, gave me timelines, asked to ensure my understanding and was extremely professional. I felt comfortable in their care from beginning to end and am happy that I came across the office. I'll be updating my review after my next visit in a week. Update: Went in for a deep cleaning with Heather. I had the best experience I could probably have at the dentist. Lol. The doctor came in to numb me up and he made sure I was okay all throughout the process. Stopping constantly to make sure I was okay and wasn't in any pain. Heather started and it all was over before I knew it. Didn't feel much. The only negative thing I have to say, and it could be big for some and if I was in a time crunch, is that it took an entire hour for them to start on me once I got in the chair. I didn't mind this time because they had a tv in the room and I got caught up in the show before I realized how long it had actually been. It that's a common thing, I don't plan to continue going, it did not however bother me much this visit. It is inconvenient though if you're scheduled for a specific time. An hour wait is unsatisfactory. I will be reducing from 5 stars to 4 because of this. I did feel very comfortable and knowledgeable about what was going on. I got a cleaning with Dr. Ardekani, someone should teach him how to give a proper handshake, not a light touch. I also would recommend not wearing cologne and not having my head touch your chest while you work on me. I was surprised that he did my cleaning and not the hygienist. Afterwards I thought my teeth didn't feel the usual "rough" way it would after a cleaning, not sure the best adjective to use to explain the feeling. I appreciated that he didn't see any fillings, that's how I know I can trust a dentist. However he wanted to talk me into invisalign when my teeth are mildly unstraight. He said no pressure, yet I wasn't able to leave the chair until the front desk could come over and upsell me on it. I politely told her no, and then she asked "why". No is complete sentence, I don't owe you an explanation, especially in such a public space. Then I was forced to sign a paper regarding invisalign, yeah no pressure! lol read more

I've been really pleased with the team at DC Pearls Dental Boutique. Dr. Ardekani is extremely professional, and he has proven himself to be a thoughtful partner of my dental health care team. I came in with an urgent and complicated case of an abscessed tooth stemming from a misdiagnosis from a previous dentist, and he did an excellent job of walking me through my options for management, and even went as far to speak to my primary care doctor and my oral surgeon to ensure that we were all on the same page for treatment. I have also found that he is one of the few doctors I have had that listens to me when I tell him something feels off. I am typically asymptomatic for things until they get really serious, and anytime I have told him that I think something warrants further treatment, he takes the time to do a full analysis of the situation, walk me through options and associated risks, and then we make the final call on how to proceed together. I ask A LOT of questions throughout the process to make sure I have a good sense of what's going on, and he has entertained all of them very patiently and thoroughly. I also appreciate that in the two cases that I had that were particularly complicated, he referred me to specialists immediately so that I got the proper level of care. Both the oral surgeon and endodontist he sent me to were excellent, and all three of them kept in touch to ensure everything was moving forward well. Finally, the front office staff has been delightful. I unfortunately know them all better than I would have liked because I've had to go in so much, but they have been great about discussing potential issues with insurance on certain treatment plans and developing payment plans with me. DC Pearls has a neat and upscale clinic. I have been taking my wife here for about a year now, starting with her root canal treatment. I decided to change my dentist to them so that both of us could get our appointments together going forward. We have had mixed experience with the actual dental service - at times good and at times bad (today's cleaning job was particularly painful for both of us (different doctor/assistant) ). The most annoying part about the DC pearls, however, is that on each of our visits they've tried to sell us something (something you will notice is a common thread among the low star reviews). Started with fluoride treatment. Then Invisalign. Then some stuff I don't recollect now. Today, a guard that she must wear in the nights so that she doesn't grind her teeth to nothing. All this is sold with subtle fear mongering (and even patronizing advice during one of our earlier visits). After today's experience we are even more convinced that money making is the primary guiding motive: - I requested that our x-rays and reports be emailed to us. They asked us to pay charge $35 for the "effort they have to take to prepare the report". BTW, this was not a repeat request. Also, my other dentist has never charged me for this. No matter what HIPAA rules permit - charging for this is downright petty. - I was asked to sign up for a free consultation because my gums are showing 'signs of recession'. Add to that a 'very tiny' cavity that I should get filled. - My wife was suggested to sign up for cleaning every 3 months. - Lastly, they convinced my wife to sign up for the mouth guard. As we were getting back to our car (hardly 5 mins later), we called up to tell them that we'd like to take some time to decide. Immediately, we were informed that they would likely not reverse the charge. I intervened to state that considering the amount of business we've given them over the past year, they must do so as a goodwill gesture. To that we were told that the lab/consultant already came and collected her sample (within a 5 min window?!). Next we were told that she will try to reverse but the lab was closed. By then, I asked that they provide me the doc's email so that I take it up with him (a request that was refused). To cut the story short - they did agree to 'waive the charge' but not before complaining to my wife that I "harassed" them. They've lost our business as well as our trust read more

Not happy with the work -2 of my teeth are very sensitive especially to temperature & I mentioned it dr K said he was going to take an X-ray & forgot ....maybe because he jumps from patient to patient -one of those times left me drooling on my neck with a tooth mold in my mouth while he was working on someone else not to mention my temporary tooth filing fell off before I got home -same visit He jeopardized my tooth!!!! Numerous times I said I'm planning for wither veneers , after the 1st crown was placed he said he was going to re-do it !! WTF???!! Also very aggressive on reminder messaging. Each visit took at least an hour wait , one of those times I walked out because the wait was over 2 hours ... Not anything to write home about. I went in for a cleaning last month, off a recommendation from ZocDoc. The process was not hard at all, I was in the office a few days after booking. The front staff was nice and helpful enough, especially with COVID going around. The wait was relatively short and I was ready to go in less than 25 minutes. My appointment itself was alright, but my main issue is with the up-selling done at the end. After my cleaning was done, the doctor was already pressuring me into spending upwards of $800 to fill cavities when I hadn't even said that I was ready to go forward after the initial appointment. As a new patient who is incredibly nervous when going to have a treatment or dental work, they put me at ease and were consistently worried about how I was doing. First off let me start by saying I hope people are very very aware that they take their patients for fools. I first made an appointment on Zocdoc in May. They somehow didn't see it so i had to reschedule for 3 weeks later. Went in for a cleaning. Knew i had cavities so I'd be getting them filled. Got the first side of cavities filled, fine. Second side i don't know what the hell this dentist does because I have never had discomfort after a filling. Had my second side done in July and i have been in pain since. Since i first walked through those doors they want me to consider Invisalign for $5000. Don't even remember my damn name but focused on selling me something I don't want and they try to guilt trip and pressure you into making a decision right then and there but thank God I don't fall for that foolishness. My left side done in July i have not been able to eat more or less drink. Mind you I have never had his problem with a cavity being filled. Call the dentist after two weeks to tell them the pain. Go in and the dentist says "oh that's what usually happens". Two months go by and I still cannot eat or even gargle mouthwash without being in pain. Clearly with the way the dentist bounces around the office to different patients he just wants you to get the hell out of the seat asap even though they will have you in the chair waiting for an hour...Come back in September and these idiots say i now need a root canal and want me paying $1300 right then and there.
