Not sure what we would do without Dr. Mcintosh. Both my children are seen by him for different reasons. We felt very overwhelmed and lost when we suspected my son had ADD. Before seeing Dr. Mcintosh, my son saw an ADD expert. All he wanted to do was medicate my son. Dr. McIntosh developed a great 5 step plan to follow before we decide to medicate. 6 weeks later my son is doing great and has had zero issues in the classroom. My daughter has been misdiagnosed with a tic for the last 6 years. After having a very bad seizure, we took her to Dr. Mcintosh. He took the time to review her whole medical history and tests, in addition to running new tests. He was able to properly diagnose what was happening and she has since been free of twitching and seizures. Still very early in the process but so thankful she has the right Dr. working with her! read more

My son has been experiencing febrile seizures for over a year now and his last one caused doctors at the hospital to refer us to a neurologist to look into things a little more. As a mom, it truly is a daunting feeling, especially the "waiting game" when looking for appointments, openings and answers. After speaking to our primary pediatrician, local neurologists had two month waits! Dr McIntosh got us in that week! We started with a detailed meeting in person, where we could ask any questions, followed by a visit for the EEG and then a follow up for results. My son is only 2, but his team and office made him feel so comfortable. (Very child friendly waiting room and special touches like kid themed backpacks for the equipment). Our first appointment was a great experience with Dr. M and his team. We were running late due to a misunderstanding on our appointment time and the office called us to make sure we were arriving as we did not want to lose our appointment. Luckily we weren't too far away and got there albeit late. Checking in was easy and the team was very friendly. There are a lot of books and a cute Thomas the Train, train table for the littles to enjoy while parents meet with Dr. M. When we met Dr. M he was very kind and listened to everything that was a concern or question. His approach with our child was also very warm and encouraging. He listened and showed him a great deal of kindness. We left feeling good about our choice in Dr. M and our son enjoyed his visit and the lollipop at the end. I would absolutely avoid using Dr. McIntosh. A few years ago, we paid him a couple thousand dollars to treat our 13-year old son who was suffering from PANDAS. I saw the website claiming to specialize in PANDAS and I called his office prior to his treatment and was reassured that the doctor specialized in the treatment of PANDAS and that he would use the standard treatment protocols (long term antibiotics, anti-inflammatories and IVIG. We agreed to pay him via credit card because they didn't take our blue cross insurance PPO and they would in turn super bill us. A few weeks into treatment, Doctor McIntosh read the results of the Cunningham blood panel (which showed my son "off the charts" as positive for PANDAS), to my wife during the appointment and he literally told her that "he was out", and "could not treat my son!!! Absolutely insane - no explanation of why - he was just out. I'm still angered that we never fought to get our money back but the truth is that you need to pick your battles - especially when you are spending every spare minute and dollar trying to help your son. Furthermore, this doctor's decision/actions caused had major repercussions when it came to our quest to get our son into CHOC hospital for treatment because they read his prior case history and noted that a neurologist (McIntosh) had already seen him (could not treat him ) and that he simply needed to see a psychologist. Luckily, our pediatric doctor wrote CHOC a letter requesting that they change their decision. Thank goodness that they did. Luckily, CHOC took that into consideration and we were able to get him into see a real neurologist (Dr Taraman) who gave our son the treatment indicated above. Thankfully, our son made a miraculous recovery following the IVIG treatment. I would definitely avoid this doctor at all costs. He took our money, promised treatment that he never gave, caused major delays to treatment and he created additional problems for us down the road!!! read more

I couldn't say enough good things about our experience with Dr. McIntosh over the last 12 months, we feel blessed to have found him! Note he doesn't take PPO, but even with out of coverage fees Dr. M was more than worth the extra cost! Location wise, he is located in DEEP Laguna Niguel, so give yourself plenty of time getting down there. There is plenty of parking in the back of the building where the office is located. So we are seeing Dr. M for our daughter's needs--as others have mentioned, the first thing that we noticed was how he took his time to really listen to us, and he took his time examining my daughter as well. He sat down on the floor and connected with our child--that is rare. I didn't feel like he was just getting us in and out so he could collect his $ from us--he went above and beyond to make sure we were clear with the next steps for treatment, and set up proactive follow ups to make sure everything was progressing along. He also took his time to make sure my daughter was comfortable with him, and connected with her to make sure he could accurately assess the situation. We are now at the year mark under his care, and not only has our daughter shown improvement, we found out Dr. M proactively followed up with my child's other doctors. Gave my child medication that lowered his seizure threshold. Lo and behold, he started having absence seizures. Dr. McIntosh treated my son like a number, and just randomly prescribed an anti epileptic drug. I was shocked by this low level of care, prescribing without an EEG an anti-epileptic drug (his pediatrician, who suffers from seizures himself, said this was unacceptable, and got us right into CHOC in Orange with the highest level of Epithelialologist team (Level 4) on the West Coast (Boston Mass has the same level 4 epitheliologists on the East Coast), and was assigned an epitheliologist, neurologist, and neurophysiologist. This thoughtful and brilliant team, along with an incredible and conscientious child psychiatrist worked together to give my son the most incredibly successful treatment plan. The medications Dr. McIntosh used with no MRI and EEG were discontinued the night he entered CHOC at Orange. Do your homework and look into Dr. Teraman (a lead cutting edge neurologist through CHOC in Orange and UCI) to begin your child's treatment plan. Each child is different and deserves a thorough evaluation directed by Dr. Teraman! read more

I was referred to Dr. McIntosh by my son's OT. I waited for four months for my first appointment and it was well worth it. Dr. McIntosh is empathetic and kind, and worked so well with my son in our initial appointment. I felt heard, and he was able to get my son to engage with him despite his usual hesitation with strangers and a new environment. He was diagnosed, and I felt validated in all of my concerns about his development. The best part was getting a treatment plan tailored to his needs to help him thrive! Appointment was on time and he spent a very long time with us without feeling rushed. He is very knowledgeable and precise. Finally found the right doctor. A few years ago I was referred to another doctor who incorrectly diagnosed my son. We struggled. Finally tried again and was referred to Dr. McIntosh. Grateful. Appreciate the time and care he took talking to my 15 year old son. Explained in "teen" terms how he would feel differently after starting ADHD medication and why it was important. The doctor also took the time to discuss all the other changes we need to make and a good path forward. Office is professional and returns calls in a timely manner (greatly appreciated). We've seen this doctor a few times. He is very nice and friendly, but the main reason I am giving this low rating is that he misdiagnosed my son as not being on the autistic spectrum because he is "too empathic to be on the spectrum". That was in the beginning of our road of trying to have my son diagnosed. Since then, my son has been diagnosed by several different professionals, and he is definitely on the autistic spectrum. Now, three years later, I am much more knowledgeable, and I know that kids that are on the autistic spectrum are actually very empathetic. That alone makes me realize how unprofessional this doctor is. Another thing I did not like was that for every refill we needed to come for another visit and pay again, as this office doesn't bill insurance. That is ludicrous! Other doctors give you medication for at least 6 months and you don't need to show up every few weeks. read more
