The entire staff here is sweet as pie. They go above and beyond to make sure you get the results you need. No long wait times for appointments either! And should you need to call, they respond right away. They are very VERY compassionate and know what it's like to suffer from migraines, so they do everything within their power to get you relief. I have been a loyal patient of Dr. Bixby for years, over 5 offices, & She's why I can walk again. Dr Bixby is the best Dr I've ever seen, sadly her office staff is Awful. After my appt last month, & the Rx couldn't reach them for over a week, I drove to the office to clear things up & make a return appt (I have the card). The day before my appt, I'm called, asking me to reschedule. After explaining I couldn't reschedule without notice, she says she's canceling my appt, I can't be seen until Jan, & "Don't Come In". Needing to inform Dr. of this incident, I go to the office the next day. I'm told "Dr won't see you, LEAVE". I said I'd wait, to convey my need to speak to her soon. Fearing employment reprisals from her actions, she returns with a woman claiming to be bldg management, who threatened to have police remove me if I don't leave. Unfortunately I have seen my share of various doctors for various ailments. Dr. Bixby and her staff in Aliso Viejo were angels. The front staff were very caring, Dr. Bixby went through in detail, plan for care, listened to my questions, comments, and is the most compassionate doctor I've ever met. I don't recommend coming here at all if you're in pain and suffer from migraines or any other medical issues. This office does not see your health or well-being as a priority. Dr. Bixby was kind, but a doctor is only as good as her office staff. The phones are randomly turned off in the middle of the day or no one will answer or return your calls. I waited for an appointment for 2 months only for this office to neglect my medical needs. You can only get samples of medication rather than a prescription. I've been waiting 2 weeks for her receptionist to call a prescription into my pharmacy. And the only alternative for me to receive medication is drive all the way to Laguna Beach to pick up samples (WTH). I provided the address to my pharmacy and everything, but now all of my calls go unanswered. There's also no sense of urgency in getting authorizations approved for MRI's. I had to call the office twice to see if they sent the necessary information to the imaging center for my insurance to approve it. I'm appalled that patients health isn't a priority here and you have to chase them down and make numerous calls to be taken seriously. It's ashame that Dr. Bixby allows this type of treatment for her patients. I should've read the negative reviews prior to making an appointment as they corroborate my complaints. read more

It's true, this office schedules appointments very far in advance. However, Dr. Bixby is clearly very empathetic, knowledgeable, skilled, and takes insurance. That is a tough combination to find these days. The reality these days is you have to get on a waitlist to see good providers that take insurance. I have severe anxiety and she made me feel very at ease and patiently answered my many questions. The only downside besides wait times for appointments is our appointment felt slightly rushed, but the upsides outweighed that, so I'm happy to still give 5 stars. read more

Warning ~ Ok mom rant over here. We were referred to Dr. Bixby by a Neurosurgeon for my daughter who has a brain tumor. Made the appt and waited 6 weeks for appt to get here. Excited was an understatement. 3 days before the appt the office called and wanted to get more information. Apparently Dr. Bixby only treats Parkinson's so they basically said we can offer no help and cancelled our appointment. I was thinking this would have been useful information 6 weeks ago. I mean you tell them what's Kinda going on when you book the appt. So unless you have Parkinson's don't WASTE your time. read more

I had a long awaited appointment with Dr. Bixby. It takes a lot for me to organize my schedule and get out to my doctors' appointments. The morning of I got ready and drove to the appointment, was there 20 minutes early, parked and looked and looked for her office only to realize that the address listed was the wrong address. I called and got the correct address and begged them to hold my appointment and that I'll be there within 15-20 minutes. The person on the phone said we hold appointments open for 15 minutes and then after that it's up to the doctor wether they want to wait longer. I reiterated that I had waited a while for this appointment and to please let her know that I'm literally driving over so to please wait. By the time I got there and parked and went up to the office, it was 18 minutes. She had left! Just left the building with no regard for the patient who called and said she's late because the address listed was the wrong address. I needed to be seen desperately. I was speechless. They mildly rebuked me that i looked at the wrong place for the address. The next appointment they offered me was TWO months later. My hands are shaking so bad that I cannot wait two months. I left with tears in my eyes. I really can't go back to her after this experience. No compassion and no humanity for someone who drove to the wrong place? How can I trust my neurological care to someone like this?! My husband also said to me- do you really want to be seen and treated by someone who has jumped around so many practices and offices that a google search gives you several different offices that she's been part of and moved on since then? So I am looking for a new neurologist but many months have been lost because she couldn't wait for me to get there. read more

Updated review: After leaving my review yesterday Dr. Bixby's office was very responsive. They called to confirm that I had received the prescription/referral for therapy and also sent it to me via email. They informed me that the staff had a meeting and they will be doing everything they can to be more responsive. They also apologized for the situation and assured me that from now on they would give any prescriptions/referrals to us after an appointment. I was extremely appreciative of this! We will definitely be back to Dr. Bixby as she is an amazing physician with a huge heart and incredible knowledge and talent! I have been going to Dr. Bixby for a little under two years now. My insurance had changed and I was super hesitant to find a new neurology team because my case is a little overwhelming, but I am forever grateful that life found a way to unite Dr. Bixby and I. She successfully has weaned me off of several medications and has started me on a Botox regimen for my migraines. I have not had a migraine in over 6 months because of it. I'm a retired respiratory therapist that made it through a 40 year career working in the hospital then in research "shaking all the way". I was "the guy" that other therapists would call to do their arterial punctures because I was the best! As I entered "my golden years" I got much shakier. I never expected I'd be wearing egg yoke at breakfast, unable to eat soup or hold a taco in a restaurant. And worst of all, unable to play guitar. Essential tremor doesn't get much press but I'm here to tell you it's picking away at my self worth and definitely my desire to interact outside the house. I've seen 6 other neurologists, some of which shrugged their shoulders and said DBS was the only real answer. Some wanted me to know how smart they were and see how many books they have written. I couldn't care less. I've worked with hundreds of inflated egos. When Dr. Bixby walked into the exam room I could just "feel" something was different about her. She enveloped me with compassion and I felt that she truly cared about me.I can't think of a better way to put it.I knew I was in good hands - I'm not an easy sell ! She's caring, empathetic, intelligent and structured. When a highly skilled physician wants to gain more knowledge for the benefit of his/her patients you are in good hands. I believe that's Dr Mindy Bixby. She prescribed a med for me that's actually working. After 5 weeks my tremor has decreased by 50%. I actually ate a tostada the other day and didn't drop it once! Never got to see the doctor cause she doesn't do any physical spine treatment according to the receptionist. She was very rude and pretty much just wanted to hang up. De. Bixby is my neurologist for my epilepsy and I love her!!! My previous doctor never listened to me or bothered to try and find out what was wrong whenever I had a problem. She would just increase my dosage on my medication but dr. Bixby made a plan to figure out what dosage I needed and what medication .. before I had her as my doctor I was on keppra for 3000 my. So far so good. We decided to try Dr. Bixby for Parkinson's after my Dad had been treated at USC for a few years. Dr. Bixby's private practice office seems more personable as well as she herself. She gets up close to her patients and seems to care about their journey and what patients can do to be compliant vs at USC where the doctor just prescribed a regimen without much patient input. Pleased with my visit, spent time discussing my diagnosis, but not happen with communication after that. She asked me to call her back in 2 weeks to let her know how the meds were working. Left a message with receptionist, but never got a call back. Tried several times and finally got a call back from nurse. After my MRI there was not a call that time either. After picking up report and reading it myself it said I had a lesion on my kidney. Apparently that doesn't require a call from them. Eventually, again after me calling someone called and said to see my primary doctor. I have never seen or spoke to her since the first appointment. I find this highly impersonal, but it's a sign of the times in medicine. read more

My sister was in Dr. Bixby's care for PSP (a rare form of Parkinsons. Dr. Bixby gave us both the confidence and strength to carry on. Her kindness and expertise with this illness were so helpful. When my sister was finally placed in Hospice and came to my home in 2017, Dr. Bixby took her lunch hour and came to my home to see my sister and talked to her with such compassion and love. Dr. Bixby has since moved from Fountain Valley to Laguna Hills and I am now driving my friend to her office for treatment. A 5+. If you have Parkinson's or other movement disorder, than Dr. Bixby is the person to see. My previous neurologist provided a diagnosis, handed me a script and said see you in three months. I found Dr. Bixby when looking for a 2nd opinion. Well, the diagnosis was confirmed, but the treatment plan was not just take a pill see you later. Dr. Bixby has followed up to make sure the meds were working, made adjustments as needed and has ALWAYS provided the utmost in compassionate and participatory care. I followed her from a previous office that wasn't very nice to her new practice which is fantastic. She is on top of the latest medications and treatment options and always explains all the options available and what she recommends and why. Being well informed by someone who treats their patients as family members is a dream come true in the medical profession these days. Brava! read more

Most incompetent staff I have ever met. Not only did it take a month and a half to get an appointment with them, when I show up to the appointment they told me the neurologist was in Laguna Hills today ( and the majority of the week) and the appointment never existed. They were rude and said they couldn't get another appointment until SEPTEMBER, unless I wanted to go to Laguna Hills. Uhm no thanks I'll find someone else. Make sure you get a confirmation, because they probably forgot to book you if not. read more

Absolutely unprofessional. I had an appointment at 1 o'clock. I was told to go the Laguna Hills office. I got to the parking lot at 12:40 but I couldn't find the doctors office so I tried calling them and no response. Kept calling them and left voicemails and still no response. Finally I found the office but...THE DOOR WAS LOCKED. Sat there for half an hour trying to call them and STILL no response. So I'm assuming they told me to go the wrong location and I get it people make mistakes but how can you not pick up your phone for almost an hour? I've been to dozens of doctors and I've never seen such a thing. And I'm not a petty person. I don't leave reviews at all. But I had to coordinate to take time off work and drive all the way to face that situation. read more
