Everyone be aware of this doctor. The fact that he has his featured page as his PA, Vanessa says everything. I've been taking my mom to see Dr. Martinez for four years now. He diagnosed her with Parkinson's and has been treating her for several years. I always had a feeling that this was not the correct diagnosis. He had her on so many meds. I continued to voice my concerns, letting him know that I feel like there is something else going on. My first interaction with Dr. Martinez was in the waiting room. He was walking by as my mom as she was trying to walk with her walker. He shouted at the top of his lungs, "that is not a back problem, that is a brain problem" It was so unprofessional and embarrassing. He is extremely loud, obnoxious, and very unprofessional. This should've been my warning. My mom got progressively worse so I decided to take her to UCI where we saw two different neurologist that were also professors. Both doctors agreed that she definitely does not have Parkinson's that there is something completely different going on. I trusted Dr. Martinez. When I would voice my concerns, he would blow me off. I could never get a hold of anyone in the office. I would on occasionally receive a call back from Vanessa, PA, who was always incredibly rude and arrogant, and looked down upon us. I repeatedly told her that my mom had symptoms that were not related to Parkinson's. Her only solution was constantly telling me to give her more and more Parkinson's meds. The neurologists at UCI have been absolutely incredible. I finally found her a proper diagnosis and treatment with professional doctors. I wish would've done this sooner. I accompanied my father for an appointment, and I must say that Jazlin at the front desk is among the rudest individuals I have ever encountered. I would never treat another person the way she treated my father. Furthermore, she was whispering to the girl beside her about us. The unfortunate part is that I understand Spanish, which is how I realized it was about us. Once we were taken back, Dr. Martinez proved to be the sweetest and most patient doctor I have ever met. In that regard, the experience was excellent; however, I do not wish to check in my father with such unprofessional individuals. This was our third visit to this office, and on two out of three occasions, she has been exceedingly unprofessional. I will be seeking a new neurologist, as I want to bring my father to a welcoming environment, not to a place where one feels unwelcome. On a positive note, Mary was one of the nurses we encountered, and she was the most empathetic, kind, and patient nurse I have dealt with in a very long time. I rarely leave reviews, but my experience with this neurology office was so disappointing that I feel obligated to warn others. From start to finish, it felt like the people running this practice care far more about the money they make than the patients they're supposed to be helping. The staff were dismissive and unhelpful, and any concerns or questions I had were brushed aside. Instead of feeling like a patient receiving care, I felt like a number being rushed through the system. Communication was poor, follow-up was lacking, and the overall attitude of the office made it clear that compassion and patient care are not priorities here. When you're seeing a neurologist, you're often dealing with serious or stressful health issues, and the last thing you need is an office that treats you like an inconvenience. I got a concussion August 28 and it was recommended that I called Dr. Martinez's office. When I finally got at appt. in November. It was with a PA who asked me some questions.. They wrote me a prescription for medication. This medication did not help my headaches.. they said they had a walk-in headache clinic. I came in. They injected some steroid under my scalp, which made my scalp numb and did nothing for my headaches. when I finally got an appointment with the doctor that I made in November it was for March 17. they texted me the day before and said my appointment with the name of somebody other than the doctor was canceled. At this point, my symptoms are gone and I no longer need to go to this doctor.. after waiting four months to see a neurologist. They scheduled an appointment with somebody who was not even a PA. And then they canceled. This office does not return phone calls, and the whole situation is completely ineffective. It is no wonder that other people have also left negative reviews. My neurologist retired and I was referred to Dr. Martinez. He refused to take me on as a patient, said I am too complex (LOL), and the front desk refused to help. I have 2 progressive incurable diseases and the only Doctor I was told that can help refuses to make an appointment, meet with me, talk with me or or even respond to my letters. After chasing a diagnosis for 8 years, I am shocked a Dr. would refuse to help another providence patient who already has a treatment plan. I just needed help with continuation of care which is literally 2-4 appointments a year but the office refused to help me. I don't even know if Dr. Martinez saw the 2 letters I wrote as the front desk just refused to try and help. They were dismissive and triggered PTSD and all my neurological issues. I don't even know if I will survive. I have surgery next week and have no neurologist. Don't doctors have some sort of an oath to help the sick? read more

I strongly do not recommend Dr. Martinez under any circumstance. This is a doctor who values money over maintaining "Best Practices" with the care of a patient. His office phones with a last minute cancellation, which I accepted. His office then phoned me 1 hour, 15 minutes before the appointment time to cancel my appointment due to a paperwork 2025 error in the part of Dr. Martinez's office. The staff member said the 2026 authorization takes too long. I RECEIVED WRITTEN AUTHORIZATION IN LESS THAN 1 HOUR, BUT THIS TIME I CHOSE A DIFFERENT MD. LIFE IS TOO SHORT. I'm writing this to explain the negligence I am experiencing right now. I am a patient and they have my Botox medication from my insurance co. I had to cancel my last appt. Because my back was bad. I have left messages all this week and absolutely no one has called me back. All I get is a machine recording to leave message no matter what extension I press!! I even called his nurse. This is a disgrace. I'm calling my insurance company to report so they can get my Botox and I'm moving to another doctor. There's no reason in the present day that a doctor's office doesn't return your call in a full week when you have a condition that needs routine treatment. I highly don't recommend!!! read more

My husband with Parkinson's Disease (HWP) started going to Dr. Martinez about 7 years ago after he was diagnosed with Parkinson's. Dr. Martinez did a wonderful job regulating his medication which helped regulate his symptoms caused by Parkinson's. A year and half ago my husband had a bad fall and had to be hospitalized for a week. He had a bad reaction to the anesthesia used during his surgery. After my husband physically had recovered from the surgery, Dr. Martinez ordered some nuclear tests to see how his brain was functioning. Up to this point, before my HWP's accident, we were happy with the care he received from Dr. Martinez' office. Unfortunately, we had a lot of difficulty getting the order for the PET scan written correctly. The first imaging center spent 3 weeks trying to get the order for the PET scan written correctly. I would call the imaging center every few days to see if Dr. Martinez' office had made the corrections to the order so that I could schedule the PET scan. Every time I would call they would tell me that Dr. Martinez' office weren't responding to their request for the correction. When they did finally attempt to correct the order, they didn't correct it the way the Imaging Center needed them to correct it. After 3 weeks, the imaging center told me they were going to give them one more chance to make the corrections. Dr. Martinez' office said that they wanted us to go to another Imaging center, one that they worked with often. We agreed to try another Imaging center. A few days after the order was called in I called the new Imaging Center to make an appointment. They told me that there was a mistake on the order that needed to be corrected. It took 2 weeks of the new Imaging center working with them to make the corrections before Dr. Martinez' office made the corrections. The new imaging center was having the same issues. Dr. Martinez' office took several days to call or fax back. It was very frustrating for us. It is challenging enough for my husband with Parkinson's and for me the caregiver on a daily basis. It was too much to have to deal with an unorganized doctor's office. The lesson we learned is that if someone has a disease such as Parkinson's that it is important to find a doctor that specializes only on Parkinson's patients. Luckily, we found an amazing doctor who specializes in Parkinson's and movement disorders. His office is very organized and the staff is very friendly. read more

This doctor (and now his PA) has REPEATEDLY dismissed, gaslit and misdiagnosed me for 25 years. I first told him my hands, feet, legs and arms were numb and burning. He said this was restless leg. It wasn't. I now know it was small fiber neuropathy. 17 years later I told him I have been sting pains all over my body and asked him if it could be small fiber neuropathy. He said no and said it's normal. He never followed up with questions, did testing or made a referral. When I asked for a referral, he denied one. He said that a very, very serious progressive brain disease was due to simply being born with an odd shaped brain. No testing, no referral to a specialist. Again, when I asked for a referral, he denied it. His PA is just as bad. I asked for a referral for POTS. She asked me to stand and because my heart rate went up only 27 bpm, instead of 30, she seemed to delight like the proverbial soup Nazi in saying "no referral for you." Well, guess what? I've just been diagnosed with POTS. Their MO at this office is to take your payment, do no work, tell you you're fine and make you wait 4 months for a follow-up appointment, where the process is repeated. If I'd gotten appropriate neurological care 20+ years ago instead of him just pulling something out of thin air, my life might be significantly different now. I have really struggled with whether to leave this review, but if it can help anyone avoid my fate, then I think it's the right thing to do. If you haven't made an appointment yet, don't. If you're a current patient and things just aren't setting right, get a second opinion. This office may be ok for migraine injections and ordering MRIs, but if you need interpretation of that MRI or any diagnostic evaluation, please, look elsewhere. read more

I don't understand the negative reviews. I saw Darlene and Rebecca, and then Dr. Martinez after they were done with the preliminary work. The ladies were professional and efficient. Rebecca was quite entertaining. Dr Martinez is a genius. I have seen five other neurologists and neurosurgeons and none of them had any idea as to what my condition was. After half an hour of physical probing and courteous questioning, he zeroed in on the exact diagnosis. Strongly recommended! I placed my trust in this office over the years, I suffered a life threatening TIA on 11/11/2019 - following injections to my eight week long migraine site on 11/8/2019. I lost the ability to speak, could not put sentences together and was ordered to the ER by my Insurance. I spent the night in the ICU, incurred expensive doctor bills for Cardiologists, CAT scans, MRIs, numerous ultrasounds, a heart monitor. Following two anxiety ridden and expensive months of testing, I've been cleared by Dr Rasouli of all heart disease. All the while, Kenneth Martinez remains convinced it was not the migraine, the aura's, the steroids and injections I received in his office. On Tuesday, 7/21, I desperately phoned to communicate the area of pain consistent with that of a possible an occipital neuralgia. 7/21 - 3:00pm - Gina Duel sent me home, instructing me to take TWO (in two hours) of the latest Nurtec tablets. That it would effectively ABORT the migraine. Per Manufacturer, only ONE can be taken in 24 hours. I immediately phoned and Gina revised, stating to take ONE tablet along with a Tylenol. Whaaaaaat?? 7/22 - With ongoing excruciating pain, I phone the office TWICE, 9:17am and 2:24pm. I am told my file will be reviewed and "Gina" will call me in-between patients. Needless to say - I am never contacted. 7/23 - 30 hours since my visit, I have opted to seek professional neurological care. Kenneth Martinez's office does not listen or conduct studies for patients rather, it prefers to send one home with the latest drug to cure acute and chronic migraines, offering the same treatment prior to my TIA. Avoid this practice like the covid or the plague! I cannot recommend this practice in any capacity. Of the four treatments proposed for my chronic migraines In two months , only one came to fruition. Only on The second visit I was able to have a visit with Dr Martinez. however; I found him extremely combative and argumentative, except I was level-headed and it took him a bit to realize that. Further in his intake was repetitive questions and an I realized he has an ego I can't work with - I'm a team player looking for consensus and he is a bratty know-it-all. Some of his research and ideas were wrong -- especially about psilocybin and GCRP--and he Could not come to terms with being able to even able to discuss the research I had done on psychedelics on the NIH government research website. Not that I was particularly interested in using them for treatment; just that he was too closed to learn new things Then the office dropped the ball on 3 out of 4 treatment proposals. And that's after making several attempts to get the ball running. Inter-office communication attempts were abysmal, there wasn't a single point person to reach. I sent A follow up my email 2 weeks after to be forwarded to Dr Martinez for review, instead I was replied with a note saying he PA didn't have his email. (? Really?) The office also said I was approved for Botox. However I did not receive a letter of approval from my insurance. Nor did The insurance state they even receive the prior authorization. I have been seeing Dr. Martinez and his office for oh goodness, 10 years off and on. Every single PA and doctor I have met there are incredible. They are attentive, caring, knowledgeable. They take my whole health into account when I have questions. I just started getting Botox again, ultrasound guided. Dr. Martinez and another doctor were doing injections into my cheeks, temples, neck, and shoulders. This is not a pleasant procedure, but they move quick!!!! Its been two weeks, its starting to work, and I am having less pain. On his way out the door, I asked him a simple yes or no question. He took the time to actually meet me at eye level since I was sitting and give me a real and thorough answer. Luckily I work in healthcare and actually get Botox approved in the clinic where I work, which helped me understand quickly what he was saying, but he explained patiently in a way even someone not versed in healthcare could understand. Yes they can sometimes be hard to reach, but that is literally every office these days. Today was my first in office visit with Dr. Martinez and Dr. Kuo-- the moment I arrived the front desk staff signed me in, and they also made my follow up appointments based on what my appointment was for today. The kind assistant that took me back to the room, had a kind smile and compassionate tone. When both doctors entered the room, they are willing to listen and understand my unique situation. After my treatment, I mentioned some concerns and Dr. Martinez was able to alleviate them. It's hard to find an office where all the staff come from a point of compassion and kindness and I'm grateful that I didn't let the bad reviews guide my experience. My pain management doctor referred me to Dr. Martinez and I am grateful that they have a healthy working relationship. If I ever have a negative experience to share I will update this review but for now I couldn't not leave a yelp review that was positive-- because I almost didn't give this office a chance based on the score that the office had on this application. I am a breast cancer survivor and received 30 rounds of radiation and 18 of chemotherapy from 2018. Then I started having severe numbness and tingling to my feet and bilateral hands, so I went and saw this MD's office. I never did seem him even after a nerve conduction test and close to 28 vials of blood over 2-months ago. I've called and called with only a voice mail recording! My family and I went for a follow up appointment with him regarding a very serious neurological diagnosis he had given my father. We had honest questions-trying to wrap our heads around what is going on with my father and Ken could not be more belligerent, argumentative and insensitive. His attitude and bedside manner made the appointment a complete waste of time for everyone. Frankly, he's a disgrace to the medical profession in my opinion. I saw Stephanie Messina (the PA) and Dr. Martinez with my mother now a few times. I have been repeatedly impressed with the level of professionalism and kindness at this office. My mom has dementia and she previously saw another physician at Mission Hospital for many years. Sadly, she was never offered home health, medications or community support. Stephanie was especially patient with my mom and wasn't even phased when she kept calling her my sister's name and repeating the same questions over and over. I would absolutely recommend this facility to all people, especially if they are personally experiencing memory problems or their family members are going through this sort of thing. read more

Recommended I consider surgery for both hands but I was only having a minor issue with my right hand. Both my DO (doctor of osteopathic medicine) and my acupuncturist chuckled at this diagnosis. I tried to discuss the bill with Dr. Martinez's AR department and they weren't going to take anything off. Insurance paid a portion of this but I'm still on the hook for almost $800. The care & bedside manner is missing. No one answers the phone nor calls you back. After a handful of visits & rude phone calls w/ a certain nurse I realized I don't deserve to be treated like this. I felt like if I didn't go along with whatever they made up & they did make a lot of things up that weren't true. There's a lot of miscommunication between the doctor & nurses. But at the end of the day to treat someone that sick trying to get healthcare & trying to get a diagnosis for them to treat them like they're gonna get rubbed out & w/ the fishes by the nurses. I'm not lying if I could've recorded the conversation I would blast it all over the Internet. My spouse and I were disgusted because they were always w/ me $they were they could believe what was being said & done to me. my spouse said just forget it. It's not worth it and they'll probably screw up your generic Botox treatment that won't do a damn thing to treat the other illness you have. First off I have nothing bad to say about Dr. Martinez I never got the chance to meet him. I was referred to see him and called several times to make appointments but always got voice-mail so I just hung up. After a few days I tried again and left a detailed message but no one returned my call. I waited two days and NOTHING. After that I would normally just go somewhere else. But being I was referred by another doctor I was seeing I felt like I had to go there. The next day I drove to their office in Aliso Viejo to make an appointment in person. The women behind the desk was not real friendly, but I gave her my referral paper work. As she was entering info I told her I had called to try an make an appointment and left a detailed message but nobody called me back after two days! She did not say anything in response, just ignored me?? REALLY? At that point I should have just got my referral paperwork back and left. I ended up making an appointment and then asked if I could get the patient paperwork that I would need to fill out. She said no, and that they would email it to me in the morning. They never emailed me anything? I called several times and got voice-mail. My appointment was at 2:30 and by 1:00 I still had not received anything. I then called Dr Martinez office, of course I got voice-mail! I left a message that I was cancelling my appointment. By 3:45 they were calling my cell phone and my home phone leaving messages "you missed your appointment." I guess they never took the time to listen to their messages. I had gone to Dr Martinez for 4 years Botox around my eyes for muscle spasm that I cannot live with. For the most part it was great. Once I got a droopy eyelid but it was better after 2 weeks. This time he shot , according to many doctors who have seen me, way too low and way too much under one eye. The result is I cant smile . I have a huge unsightly lip that doesnt elevate. The botox was shot incorrectly. At 7 weeks after I am still paralyzed. I did go into his office shortly after and was seen by his wonderful PA Wendy. To this day Dr. Martinez has not even seen this mess he made. One would think he would at least address this. To anyone who gets eye injections from him....watch out. I've seen Dr. Martinez off and on for more than 20 years. He's a very intelligent, respectful, and helpful doctor who genuinely cares for his patients. I wouldn't hesitate to see him again if the need arises and I highly recommend him to anyone needing a neurologist. BUT- His office seems to be very, very poorly run. When you call, you reach an automated attendant which doesn't have options that fit the vast majority of the times I've needed to call him or his staff. When do you choose an option, you almost always reach a voicemail. And whatever you do, don't hit "0," as that doesn't transfer you to an operator. Instead, it stops playing the message giving you the choices, immediately requires that you make a proper selection, or it will hang up on you and you'll have to call again. Thoughtlessness is, unfortunately, not limited to the design of their phone system. When you do manage to get through to someone, they almost never answer. Instead, you have to leave a voicemail. And my voicemails have only been returned about 30% of the time. I remember a few years ago that I had an office visit where they were supposed to send an electronic prescription for a **time sensitive medication** on a Friday. Walgreens never got it. The office has no option to reach someone after hours, and I could not reach anyone the following Monday, and so I ended up having to go to the ER to get the medication. On Monday of this week (January 2021), I called to request a prescription for another medication, but wasn't able to reach anyone despite choosing all of the options. I left a message on Monday, and again on Tuesday, and again on Wednesday, and again on Thursday, and again on Friday. Eventually, I decided to look at the Yelp page and was surprised to see that the lack of communication I was experiencing was not a unique experience. Apparently, lots of people are reporting the same issue. Today (Friday), at 5:08 p.m., I got a call back to my messages about a prescription. But, the only "response" was that the message had been sent to the PA for review. So, the medication that I requested on Monday won't be ready until next week - at the earliest. When I asked the person who called me back why it was taking so long, she apologized and blamed COVID. Given that there are reviews here on Yelp complaining about poor communication well before COVID-19 was a thing, I'm a bit dubious. She also told me that a bunch of the staff contracted COVID-19 over the holidays - which doesn't give me much confidence that they take their own health very seriously. This is unbelievable! This office has called me on the day of the appointment 3 separate occasions to tell me that Suzy Kim can't make the appointment! Why schedule an appointment, if the office can't provide a service! And the patients mostly have a neurological injury, so they have to find a way to get to the doctor's office and you cancel the day of the appointment! These doctors charge a cancellation fee, if you don't cancel within 24 hours, where's my money if the doctor cancels a couple hours before my appointment? Flat out ridiculous! read more

Dr. Martinez & his nursing staff are amazing, especially Rebecca. However, their billing department, not so much. They have had my insurance information since January 2018. They had to get pre-authorization, for my Botox. I didn't have my injections in January, because we needed the authorization. It was not until May, that I was told Dr. Martinez was out of network. Then 2 weeks later, I was told he is in network. Now I am being told, he is in network, but does not take my insurance. How the hell, do you not know that, when you had to get pre-authorization???? Even if his office fixed this, I will not be returning as a patient, regardless if they take my insurance or not. read more
