Out of the 5 locally sourced companies by Yelp in NoVA, 1 company quoted relatively high price than the group but later attempted to match the lowest price (was still high by $50) and 1 company failed to respond. The remaining others provided quotes that were similar in the bell curve range of quotes. I usually don't select a company based on no reviews on Yelp, but I gave Top Choice Garage Doors a chance since the job was a simple one: fix a broken garage door torsion spring. The owner did include a screenshot on Yelp which showed 3 short and positive reviews were hidden by Yelp. But those reviews aren't constructive feedback and I can see why they were hidden. Communication began initially through Yelp. It then progressed through a phone call and then some texting. I provided a description of my double garage door (wooden panels, 16 ft wide) and I sent a couple of images via text of the broken garage door torsion spring, and he was able to determine the springs replacement parts. Fermy, owner and the service man, offered same day servicing later that evening (initial contact began in the afternoon), however my schedule did not align with his, so I opted for next day servicing, for which he was also available. Fermy arrived on time within the estimated window time provided. Removing and replacing the pair of torsion springs was completed within the estimated 30-60 minutes. For folks that don't know, once 1 spring breaks, both have to be replaced for a double garage door for optimal performance and longevity life span. He had all the necessary tools to get the job done. I did let him borrow my ladders even though he had his own ladder in his car (I saw it), because it was more convenient and helps speed up his job and saves me time for waiting for the job to be finished. I'd rather be helpful to him than being passive. Fermy accepted credit card payment and provided a digital receipt. No papers involved, which means environmental friendly attitude saving a tree. Fermy went beyond my expectations by adjusting the garage door opening to compensate for the 1 foot short garage door opener (7 footer should have been 8 footer), educating me the importance of maintaining the garage door (checked some of the nut fasteners as they became loose over time, which many did by hand checking) and also discussed the importance of safety of operating & repairing the garage door. He genuinely offered to check and tighten up remaining loose nuts on the garage door panels, but I politely declined and indicated I would do them myself because I don't need to waste his time and talent. I can tighten the nuts myself (needs 7/16 socket/wrench). Fermy demonstrated professional work, courtesy, humbleness, fairness, and great attitude. I would recommend Top Choice Garage Doors based on my fantastic experience. Job well done. As a good gesture, be sure to offer this guy some liquids to drink after the job is done as I have for appreciation.

It has opened the door, but disturbed the household for the entire 15 years that we have owned the house. Tim came to my home the day after I called. He evaluated my situation and recommended the quietest new door opener, stating he uses the same one at his house. Tim made other suggestions regarding how to prevent as much noise as possible, so those sleeping in the room above the garage would not be shocked into consciousness every time someone had to drive away. Tim provided an estimate on the installation of the Liftmaster 8550W and said that he himself could do the work if we were a little flexible in the scheduling. The estimate seemed very reasonable. My husband and I both found Tim to be very nice and very well versed in this subject. He explained everything thoroughly and answered all of our questions. We felt comfortable with his experience and level of expertise. I had to perform my due diligence and did get 2 other estimates. I was pleased to discover that one estimate was for a lesser unit for about the same amount and the other was $55 more for the same unit. We scheduled the installation with Tim and Elite Garage Doors. Tim did a very quick removal of the old unit and a quick installation of the new opener. Tim even brought an additional idea of a rubber padding between all parts of the door framework and the garage ceiling and put that into place for no extra charge. He lubricated the joints of the garage door and later showed us how we can do that ourselves to keep the door movements as quiet as possible. We absolutely love our new Liftmaster 8550W. I can barely hear the door open when I am in the room directly adjacent to the garage when I am wide awake. I do not wake up when sleeping in the bedroom above the garage when my husband leaves for work at 4:45am. It is a such a blessing!!! Having a keypad outside will be useful and the motion activated light in the garage has already been helpful. This is am amazing upgrade that I wish I had done long ago.
