Overall, I'm very disappointed. Prince William Garage Door installed the original garage door on a…read morenew home we purchased in 2016 and was contracted by the home builder. Since installation, the motor has had nothing but problems. The first few problems the home builder engaged them to make the repairs and we didn't have to pay, but after 1 year we had to call PWGD directly and pay them for the numerous repairs as it was apparently no longer under warranty. Come to find out from three other garage door companies, normally the warranty is 3 years on new installs!! Recently we needed yet another repair as the garage door was opening by itself. I called in and spoke with the owner, Ricky, who was overly talkative about how amazing he says he is and went off on a politics rant, but spent a lot of time explaining to me what he thought the problem was with our unit. He also said Liftmaster is "Chinese junk" and that he would never sell one (yet he had no problem selling one to our home builder). He said the solution was to replace the Liftmaster motor with another brand that had another 1 year warranty, or I could pay them to come check the wires in the existing motor and he would provide zero warranty. I told him I would call him back at the end of the day with a decision. I called back an hour later to book the appointment to have the motor replaced with his recommended brand, and spoke with a receptionist who said they were very busy and needed to call me back. By the end of the day I hadn't heard anything so I called again and left a voicemail. I called again the next morning and left another voicemail. I never heard anything back. I guess they don't want my business? I ended up calling another company who came out and replaced the motor (for less than PWGD quoted) on the same day, and told me no matter what happens they'll fix it for free for 3 years. As a business owner myself, a customer having this many problems with a single unit clearly has an issue that should have been addressed sooner. If I was in PWGD's shoes and saw the service ticket history, I would have replaced the motor as a courtesy considering it's never worked perfectly and should have been replaced from the start under warranty. That's how I treat my own customers at least...plus we've consistently gone back to and paid PWGD to repair it, totaling more than the cost of a new unit. The only reason for two stars and not one, is the fact that the owner did indeed spend quite a bit of time on the phone with me originally when I called in to remotely diagnose the issue over the phone, so I will give credit where credit is due.

I was sweeping out around my garage door this morning - and managed to disturb with the broom - the…read morewires that go to one of the garage door sensors that are mounted at floor level. As a result - the Liftmaster garage door opener would not open the door. So I jumped on Yelp and found a local, highly rated garage door contractor: G&S Garage Doors out of Chantilly, VA. Steve quoted me a $95.00 service fee to come out and diagnose the issue, plus inspect and "tune up" the garage door and system - which includes making sure all the nuts and bolts are tight - and applying lubricant to the appropriate friction points. I called them just after 12 noon - they had a technician out here by 2:30 pm. After looking things over - the tech determined I had jostled one of the wire nuts going to one of the sensors - he retightened the wires - and voila - my garage door was back to functioning properly. After lubricating the whole shebang - the whole system operated noticeably quieter. He advised that "Best Practice" is to lubricate the appropriate points - twice per year. He also pointed out a low-level squeak coming from the Liftmaster motor - there is apparently a plastic gear inside the unit - which means the motor may eventually fail. I'll wait until then to replace and upgrade the unit. Thankful for the quick response and turnaround on the repair and maintenance! A+! #GAndSGarageDoors
