When patients are making important medical decisions, transparency and clear communication should be a priority. Based on my experience, I felt pressured during the intake process and disappointed by the lack of clear communication regarding a change that directly affected my decision. As a result, I chose not to move forward with treatment and requested a refund of my deposit. For those of you thinking you can handle it alone: Back in 2012, I had a cosmetic procedure before recovery homes were really a thing, and having to overcome that recovery was an absolute nightmare. My family had no idea how to properly care for me, how to rotate me, put my faja on, or even how to bathe me. Fast forward to 2026, another cosmetic procedure, and I knew I could not recover alone again. I researched many places and was even advised by my surgical coordinator to go to the one they recommended. Please do your own research. Miami is known for kickbacks & referral incentives, so don't automatically assume the place being pushed on you is the best option. After doing my OWN research, I found Oasis Retreat Miami. Their Instagram posts gave me confidence that it would be clean, friendly, and comfortable environment- and that I wasn't going to be eating frozen TV dinners while recovering. I arrived after surgery feeling weak, cold, and shaky from the anesthesia. The moment I arrived, I was warmly greeted and brought to my room. My adjustable bed had fresh sheets and a heated blanket waiting for me. That alone brought me so much comfort. I was given the option of a vitamin/iron IV, which in my opinion is absolute MUST. Shortly after, one of the caretakers (Yari) came in with hot homemade chicken soup and fed me while I rested in bed. The level of care here is truly incredible. What made my experience so special were the wonderful caretakers that work at the Chika Iconika location. Yari, Daily, and Annie are absolute angels. They cared for me with so much kindness, patience, and genuine compassion. You can tell they truly love what they do, and it shows in every interaction. Honestly, even my own family would not have been able to care for me at this level. At all times, I felt safe, clean, comfortable, well-fed, and genuinely cared for. Recovery is such a vulnerable time, and having the right people around makes all the difference. I even extended my stay because I knew returning to normal life would be challenging--especially after being cared for like a princess (LOL). If you're looking for a recovery home in Miami, I highly recommend Oasis Retreat Miami hands down their homes are clean, the food is delicious, and the staff is amazing. P.S. I HAD THE WORST EXPERIENCE HERE!!!! BEWARE!!!!! 1. Taken to…read morepre-op appointment. After I was finished I texted my driver for pickup. He advised another driver would pick up in 30min. No car description. After 45min. I texted for description. Finally picked up 1 hour later. 2. Day of surgery. My surgery was scheduled for 6:30a arrival. Caregiver at recovery home advised driver would pick me up at 5:30a. He does not show up until 6:10a. (40min late). He proceeded to tell me to call my doctor's office and tell them I would be 15min late due to heavy traffic. I was 25 min late for my surgery. 3. After surgery the recovery home advised they would get my medication delivered by their in house Pharmacy. I was out of surgery by noon. I was told by meds would be available in 2 hours. In excruciating pain for over 7 hours by the time my medication was delivered. 4. My stay was 5 days. After surgery (Day 2) I was moved to a room where the t.v. did not work. Did they care or attempt to fix it or move me to another room? Of course not. My whole stay I stared at the wall. Completely uncomfortable. Worst than prison. 5. On two occasions I had to ask for the toilet paper to be restocked in the bathroom. This was not immediately done. I had to ask several times for it to finally get stocked. No toilet paper. WTH? On one occasions the antibacterial soap was out. Why are these to kept stocked? 6. If you wanted to shower you have to wait for them and them to bring towels. Even though I showered myself. Why did I have to shower on their time? 7. The food was horrible. Same meals daily, full of sodium and unhealthy for recovery. 8. The nurses were all inattentive and acted like you were really bothering them if you asked for anything. I will say Maudia was the best there. I only had her for two days. The rest was hell. 9. Day after surgery. First Post-op appointment. I was dropped off to my appointment on time. However, I called for pick up at 11:20a. The driver said he was waiting on the other lady to finish her appointment and would pick me up. 12p rolls around I text him for status, he was still waiting. Finally at 1:10p (almost 2 hours of waiting) I was beginning to be in pain and was due for my medications. I texted the driver and advised I could just uber back as I was hurting and waited nearly two hours for a ride back to the recovery home. He said he was already otw. The man does not pull up until 1:40p. I WAS LEFT WATING FOR A RIDE FOR OVER 2 AND A HALF HOURS DAY AFTER SURGERY! 10. Last day to stay. My flight was at 11a. I wanted to leave at 9a.m. for my departure. They kicked me out at 7:30a rushing me out of there. Even though check out time is at 11a. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!!
