Ahhh donuts. When I get that craving, no other shop will do, it has to be Andy's, or risk disappointment. This place has nothing fancy about it, only donut perfection. I have no clue how long they've been in the donut biz, but it's long enough that they've got it right. I've never been disappointed, their raised sugar donuts are like a dream, their old-fashioned has crispy edges and a dense cakey goodness you just won't find elsewhere. I never have that sour greasy feeling in my mouth after an Andy's donut, not something I can say for most other places. Why is a mom and pop donut shop getting low reviews in the corporate chain age of Krispy Kreme? Andy's makes donuts, makes them pretty darn good, and has done so for decades. Take that, Krispy Kreme, who's Pinole branch got shut down after only a few years... The people are really nice and nothing warms the stomach more than a sweet, sugary, circular treat at odd hours of the night. Oh, and did I mention the prices? Can't beat 'em. This place is almost a Richmond historical landmark! This place has been around longer than I have been living. The donuts have always hit my donut spot here at Andy's. Hot chocolate is pretty good. Prices are legit. Sometimes it can smell like cigarettes due to the odor from some of the customers. Located on 23rd (one of Richmond's main streets), it isn't in a "bad" area. Street parking is usually available or you can find parking on the rear of this place. Usually open 24/7 except for some holidays! common, these people can't work everyday! haha. Open 24/7, Andy's makes the best from-scratch donuts that are crusty and crispy outside with a tender crumb inside. The donuts aren't perfect identical shapes because they are made by hand. The buttermilk bars have a great crispy shell. Fruit flavors are true. Orange and lemon donuts taste like those fruits and have bits of grated rind. Bags of donut holes are on top of the counter. Raised donuts are bigger and yeastier than the flavorless, light airy versions at most shops. The maple bars are more than an inch high. Filled donuts are cut in half with a thick layer of fruit filling or custard. Good cake donuts. Some favorites are chocolate with chocolate icing and blueberry. Time has stopped at Andy's in a good way. The waitress will call you hone while she pours a cup of Joe. Perfect for those late night cravings! They are usually stocked with various donuts. I generally crave either the French cruller, or a good old apple fritter. The apple fritters here are HUGE and sweet! You definitely get your money's worth and they are share size! The sprinkle is a classic cake donut and also yummy. The one thing about the donuts is that they are usually fresh as this place is open 24/7! Have yet to try the blueberry donut but I will. Oh Andy what happened? I used to be a regular customer when I was younger. Stopped in yesterday and was not pleased. This was not the Andy's that I knew and loved. For starters it was dirty. Counters, floors and windows. How am I supposed to pick out a lovely doughnut if I can't see it? There wasn't a big selection. The doughnuts that were out looked dry, and doughy. Anybody that gives this places less than 5 stars deserves to be slapped! Hands down some of the best donuts in the bay. Apple fritters and cinnamon rolls the size of newborn babies. When I use to be a fat ass I would come here about 3 or 4 times a week and get my usual..1 fritter and cinnamon roll and maybe sometimes a random donut like chocolate or jelly depending on how bad I wanted to stuff my face. I love Andy's donuts!!! Classic donuts before Krispy Kreme and their generic donuts came along. You can still pick up a dozen in the classic pink box. Love it. The best part of this place is that it is a open 24 hours a day. I work at 3:45 in the morning and its great to be able to stop by and purchase my favorite maple bar with or without custard and a great cup of regular black coffee. The donuts always taste fresh. The staff there is always friendly and smiling regardless of what time of the night it is. The only reason I give them 4 stars instead of 5 is because they only take cash. Which I can understand because of the fact that they are a corner mom and pop donut stores and I can see that the transaction fees would probably not be worth the price of a few donuts. But I definitely do recommend this place. It's a classic. read more

I wanted to love this place. The reviews are great, it's not far from me, it's open 24 hours, the selection is great, and so are the prices. I love French Crullers, but the ones I got yesterday were too heavy on the glaze and dense. Maybe I came on a bad day, or at a bad time. I'm not a huge donut fan anyway, so if the man of the house enjoys his donuts, we'll give it another shot. read more

Donuts are good but if customer service is horrible I'm giving it a two star. All I asked for was for my donuts to be put in a box. I understand I'm not getting a dozen donuts but I got about 10 and they are the twist and the big swirl ones. To stuff all that in a bag come on now I don't want squished donuts. Gesh if I need too I'll pay for the dam box. Do they cook their donuts in lard? Probably, and since I am a vegetarian (well, really a fishatarian) I don't go there anymore. I remember this place used to have great donuts. I grew up on this place. All of the dounts were superb. Probably the best I ever had anywhere. A lot of Richmond cops go there so it is halfway safe. Back then, there was a wash house next door, so andy's was a big as the counter to your left, and that was it. my fav is the cinnamon roll, whell, which ever your prefer, hella good! read more

Delicious cake donuts. Didn't try anything else. But the maple iced cake was fresh and soft, and could have 2 kinds of sprinkles. They had a great selection at 11am. Unfortunately my experience today at Andy's Donuts was anything but pleasurable. My family and I were very excited to visit the restaurant after being away from it for so many years but today when I walked into an empty dining area and no one else waiting the man purposely ignored me as hard as he could even with the baker in the back giving him a signal to assist us we waited there for several minutes before realizing we were probably being ignored because of the color of our skin. This is a childhood favorite. We lived walking distance to Andy's and it was always a special treat when we got to pick out our donuts off the racks near the window. Epic, perfect old school hand made donuts! This place looks like it hasn't changed since the 70's and that's totally a good thing since I'm pretty sure that there haven't been in any major technical advances in donut sciences since then. All the expected varieties; rounds and premium filled types as well. I was blown away my chocolate covered custard, and my gf's apple fritter was maybe the best we'd ever tasted. I was told that the beignets donuts in New Orleans were close .....If you like oily sugar dough! To me and all our family these are the BEST.
