I used to come here more often when I worked in Richmond as it was on my way home. Yesterday, I was in the area and figured I would stop by. I am so disappointed at the food changes and feeling bad to give a bad review as I love supporting small businesses and love Salvadorean food. There's a lot of room to improve. I've been eating Salvi food since I was child. If you order to go check before you leave. I had an item missing. I called and was able to get a refund. She handled it nice too since she forgot to add it. I took food to go. I added pictures on all. The tamales both chipilin and pork were good. The masa was excellent. The size was small to medium. The pupusas are tiny, they are good but nothing extraordinary. As they are small there's no cheese stretch or a good feel about the filling. The masa is good. The quesadilla pasty was crumbly, it did not feel fresh. It was dry with no flavor compared to ones I've eaten before. The best Salvi quesadillas are moist. The guava, pineapple, and custard empanada pastry were small. The pineapple one did not feel fresh, more on the dry side, crumbly compared to other flavors. The pork empanada was probably the worst. They were tiny with hardly any filling. The empanadas usually have a ground meat or shredded chicken. This one had pieces of pork so it was not flavorful at all. There's table seating indoors and outdoors. The yucca con chicharron was okay too. Usually it comes with a salad like but this one came with 1 beet, 1 slice of tomato and 1 slice of cucumber with a small bag of curtido. No sauce. Tip: The server gave me a business card and recommended to call for orders to go as the waiting time was 30 minutes. I did not mind waiting. I appreciated her sharing this. Tip: recommend the pork tamal. The pupusas if hungry get at least 3. read more

I haven't tried much here other than the pupusa's and they are great. They have a selection of some pastries and I've had some and they were all right, but in general, I'm not into El Salvador and pastries, so maybe I'm not a good person to judge the flavor of those. To me they're just kind of plain and dry. However, the pupusa's are really good and the staff is always really friendly. They used to have better deals on the pupusa during certain times of the day, but I don't think they do that anymore unfortunately. This is definitely a place. The pupusas are the best I have had in all contra costa county restaurants and believe me when I say that because I have tried a lot of them and by far these the best and most authentic to the original Salvadoran pupusas! Great customer service! I came in and ordered 80 separate pastelitos with various flavors. They helped put it together with ease in 10 separate boxes and helped me label all flavors. A good amount of bean stuffing in the papusa, not too much dough, and beans were all the way to edge of the papusa. Same with tamales -- a good amount of stuffing and not too much masa, plus it was super soft and not dried out even though it was sitting outside on our table for a while. This was my second time here, my first time was for food pick up (drive-thru ) and that went well. This time I went in for the bakery items. Really nice and friendly staff and cozy eating area. Unfortunately I was very disappointed about the quality of their baked goods as they did not taste fresh at all. I order 4 rice cookies (salpores) this are my favorite since they have a crunch to it; sadly this ones were super soft- I grew up with this and I know this was not fresh. The other item was an apple turnover (pañuelo) this was for my fiancé and he did not finished it and said it was too soft and he would toast it at home to hopefully enjoy it. He did say the flavor of the filling was good just that it was not fresh- same with the guava pastelitos; good filling but not fresh. I am not what happened; I have read good reviews about their pastries; I am not sure if Sunday they do not provide fresh products or had too much left overs; but at least this tastes more than an day old bread. I probably won't come back for the pastries; but the drinks I order were good ( latte, cappuccino and a maracuya juice). Overall my bill came up to about $30 read more

I love Xinia's! They are one of my 2 regular spots in the neighborhood. I bring everyone who visits me there. The food is truly superb and the staff are lovely. My favorites are the desayuno, the carne guisada, and the yuca frita. I also love that they have so many different aguas frescas, and fresh squeezed juices. And the TORTILLAS! So FLUFFY!!! I like to sit at the outdoor tables when the weather is good, and unfortunately, Xinia's is right next to busy San Pablo Dam Road, so it gets noisy out there. This is the biggest downside. Still, I'm glad Xinia's is where it is, close to me, on SPD road where we need them. I have a gluten allergy, so I can't speak to the many pastries they offer. I went looking for a bakery close to me from Yelp and this was highly appreciated for the Tres Leches, so I went in and bought the cake , took it to a Thanksgiving party, well it did not fail me. Firstly I love how fast the pupusas are ready! Always ready in 10-15 minutes. I am a huge fan of the plain cheese pupusas. 12/22/21 update The quality and service has stayed consistent throughout the years. This place still has the best Salvadoran horchata around. "A little bit of everything" plate literally has a bit of everything you need. Pupusas are always amazing and made to order. As I'm writing this review, I'm already thinking about my next visit to Xinia's. My 1st visit took place in early 2021 and I tried their tamales, which was delicious. The star of the show is their chicken soup (served only on weekends). The broth is flavorful, not greasy, and includes ample vegetables. The chicken is served on the side with a pupusa and wild rice. I also like their pupusas. I've tried different varieties and they were all tasty, it does take a little longer to cook, but worth the wait. Another entree I like is the Carne Guisaoa, the beef was so tender, melts in your mouth. There are a lot of sweet treats available as well. I can only talk about the mango mousse, which was light and fluffy, full of mango flavor. Service is great. Restroom is clean, easy parking as Xinia's located in a small shopping plaza, and not too far from the freeway. Xinia's, I'll see you again soon! #44/2021 read more

I was in the hankering for some pupusas and this hit the spot. Their rice ones were so crunchy; I love them!! Their filling to dough ration is very good. I would definitely go back to check their other menu items. Their baked goods weren't as good as I imagined them. They were on the dryer side. The server was sweet and attentive. I also ordered one pork and one chicken revuelta pupusa, and one chicken and one pork Salvadorian tamale. Sweet and savory. Always the way to order! Back home, I ate the pork tamale and it was soft and moist. Also had the pork pupusa and it was soft and very flavorful. It's smaller than other places but still tasty; to each his own. Came here for a quick bite to eat since I was in the area. I've tried their pupusas in the past and they are pretty good. I decided to go for the grilled chicken plate and added plantains (separate dish). The chicken was grilled and smothered in onions which gave it great flavor. Xinia's Bakery was extremely warm and welcoming. Vanessa greeted us as soon as we walked in and was super helpful, friendly, gave advice, and told us all that was in the case for dessert slices. I love their friendly staff! As for Covid-19 protocols, everyone wore masks, washed hands, gloves, and enforced the pandemic guidelines. So grateful! They had signs up, distance markers on the floor, and had all of the furniture taped off. It was so nice to feel safe while getting food to take home. They have so many options for savory and sweet treats. I got a pork and cheese pupusa, loroco pupusa, and a pork tamale with curtido and salsa for the savory. My partner got a chicken tamale, chicken enchilada, and a chicken and cheese pupusa. Seriously so so tasty! Their salsa and curtido is so flavorful and is the perfect addition to their pupusas. The enchilada was so yummy and unlike any I've tasted before with its crunchy magic. As for sweets, we got creme and strawberry pastelitos, custard horn, mango slice, alfajor, and milhojas. Had to tend to a pupusa craving from unresolved salvi mission last night. We came here and had one revuelta and one queso con jalapeño. I also got the pan con pavo because, well I was just hungry.
