Great customer service! I came in and ordered 80 separate pastelitos with various flavors. They helped put it together with ease in 10 separate boxes and helped me label all flavors. My staff loved the custard pastelitos. The chicken tamales were delicious! Definitely will be coming back.

Perhaps some of the best papusa and tamales I have had in the Bay Area. Amazing stuff! A good amount of bean stuffing in the papusa, not too much dough, and beans were all the way to edge of the papusa. Same with tamales -- a good amount of stuffing and not too much masa, plus it was super soft and not dried out even though it was sitting outside on our table for a while. Unique drink made from barley (maybe a tad too sweet). All of these were made vegan and delicious. The person in charge said it's his mother's recipe, and the mother was working there too. A sweet family run small business. You can tell this place is for locals and repeat visitors. Friendly, chill vibes and service. It's just a drag to get to El Sobrante

This was my second time here, my first time was for food pick up (drive-thru ) and that went well. This time I went in for the bakery items. Really nice and friendly staff and cozy eating area. Unfortunately I was very disappointed about the quality of their baked goods as they did not taste fresh at all. I order 4 rice cookies (salpores) this are my favorite since they have a crunch to it; sadly this ones were super soft- I grew up with this and I know this was not fresh. The other item was an apple turnover (pañuelo) this was for my fiancé and he did not finished it and said it was too soft and he would toast it at home to hopefully enjoy it. He did say the flavor of the filling was good just that it was not fresh- same with the guava pastelitos; good filling but not fresh. I am not what happened; I have read good reviews about their pastries; I am not sure if Sunday they do not provide fresh products or had too much left overs; but at least this tastes more than an day old bread. I probably won't come back for the pastries; but the drinks I order were good ( latte, cappuccino and a maracuya juice). Overall my bill came up to about $30

Xinia's is a cute, organized, clean little spot. They have tables inside and outside for dining. The staff was very friendly and the food was good. We got a few different pastries and they were all yummy. I tried the savory pastelitos, which I liked a lot. The curtido was standard. Nice and pickled. I tried the tamal too. No complaints here. They have some vegetarian and vegan choices. They also carry different coffees, smoothies, juices and atole.

I doubt that made much difference to their clientele, but in its place is another family-run business, this time Salvadoran. This one offers more generic plates at student-friendly prices for undiscriminating palates. That's at least my take in the couple of occasions I've tried it after going to the gym. The first time I tried it I couldn't see the menu until I got up to the order counter. Then I made the server wait since the menu was so comprehensive (Photo 5). I went basic and ordered the $16.99 Chicken Platter because the kabob version was five dollars more. It was decent enough though on the bland side with rice, fresh tomato salsa, and a small side salad of iceberg lettuce, sliced cucumber, and radish (Photo 9). The menu mentioned a house white sauce. I didn't see it, but I also didn't miss it either. I came back to try them again. I tried ordering the $14.99 Scrambled Eggs with Beef Chorizo but was told they were out of chorizo. This was looking to be a recurring theme because I was rebuffed the first time when I unsuccessfully ordered the beef gyro. Ironically this time they had the $16.99 Beef Gyro Platter. The rice and salad were identical to my previous platter, the beef was just OK (Photo 10). FOOD - 3 stars...middling meats, edible but not overly appetizing AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...spacious enough and nicely decorated SERVICE - 3 stars...minimal communication on the food and when it will be ready TOTAL - 3 stars...fitting for a student appetite, good enough for the rest of us if expectations are kept in check RELATED - Exploring Berkeley? My go to is the 3/$12 Revuelta pupusas and the Plantains with the beans . Top tier beans and plantains. I am so glad I found this place. It is very close to my work. I do recommend calling in your order at least 30 minutes before so that it'll be ready for you to pick up. sometimes they do not answer their phone but they will give you a call back. Keep in mind they do not accept tap pay, but they do accept Zelle and Venmo if you need to make a mobile payment. It is small and cozy inside but there are at least 4 tables if you want to dine in. They do have a few tvs if you were there to relax while waiting or out with your family. Being new to the area, this place will definitely be my go to for pupusas.
