I love Anfora for its wine classes, the knowledge of the owners and staff, and the opportunity to sit outside in the sun and sip a lovely glass of wine and enjoy appetizers (or sit inside on a cold night.) My friends and I have attended a few of their regional wine classes and really enjoyed the knowledge shared and the company of others interested in Italian wines. And sitting at an outside table with friends is my favorite thing to do on a sunny afternoon. My partner recently purchased a substitute for chartreuse from Portland there, which he is enjoying immensely, and we found a bottle of white port last time we were in which was a lovely change. Andfora is a wine shop located in downtown Oak Park that specializes in Italian wines from all over the world. If you're a sweet wine drinker, like myself this might not be the wine shop for you. I was still able to enjoy the experience to Sip, Savor and Share the rich taste of some fine wines. They have an outside patio to sit out in the front on those beautiful summer days. Where you can sit under the umbrella, relax and sip on a crispy glass of wine. There is a monthly wine class for those who want to know more about Italian wines. It's nice to have a wine shop in the neighborhood that serves unique and different selections of wines. The service for me was nice. I was able to get knowledge and history on each wine. I stopped in this shop for the first time a couple weeks ago. I wanted to get a gift and was looking for a particular type of wine. I walked in there was a man and woman, who I assume worked there (now after reading other reviews) I believe they may have been the owners and another man (a customer - likely a regular because they seemed very familiar) who they were talking to. While I was clearly looking for something, they stared at me. Not once did they greet me, acknowledge me as a potential customer, ask did I need help or if I was looking for any thing. At one point while I walked from the whites to the reds and back, the woman and I made direct eye contact...nothing. Blank stare. I stood staring blankly at wines for a second wondering what was going on, I was excited that the weather was nice and I had time to stop in to shop, so I was completely thrown off by this weird experience. While I was standing there unacknowledged and unattended to, the three of them discussed summer plans, their kids and the different summer camps they're attending this year. I was so annoyed. I walked across the store and their conversation one last time to give them a chance, and nothing. I left and don't plan to go back. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, I read another review that this is typical behavior for the owners. There are other places close by with great service and wine. read more

Good stuff: Service was really friendly. They have a very nice selection of bottles for sale. It's pretty cool that they have Carnivore around the corner to bring food to your table, too. Location is great, perfect for people watching. That said... the outdoor chairs are small and really uncomfortable. The wine was ok; definitely drinkable but not something I'd be rushing back for. However, the thing that disappointed me most was that their pours are very small. Im somewhat of a lightweight and 3 glasses of red wine would normally require some significant sobering up time, but with their pours I barely noticed the slightest buzz. A friend mentioned that she was interested in learning more about Italian wines, which is definitely the kind of interest I can fully support. I am SUCH a good friend, haha. I placed an order for 6 bottles through their online ordering system, popped some notes about my friend's preferences and interests, paid, and then was able to pop into the shop to pick up a perfectly cultivated box of wine (but, like, the CLASSY kind of box of wine). I've since placed other online orders. You can choose 3, 6, or 12 bottles... add notes about likes, preferences, things you're curious about trying, etc., and select from a range of price points.... and boom. Order online, pay online, and bop in to grab your box of treasures! For me, this is a great way to try new things, and I keep a list of what I loved so that I can buy bottles of it, or use it to help the Anfora team make future selections for me. The shop itself is so pretty inside, and the selection is wide and includes wines at all different price points, which I really appreciate. We have stopped by a number of times to either pick up wine and/or have a glass while sitting in the sun outside of the shop. The owner is super knowledgeable and willing to help steer us towards wines that we would enjoy. Each time the owners have listened to our tastes and have made choices that have been new to us and delicious. Best part is the wines are very reasonably priced. I was so excited to see a cute new wine shop opening in Oak Park, where I went to high school and spend a lot of time. If you are like me and love wine but don't have the huge wine budget you wish you had, the owner will help you find something exciting in your price range and get you excited to drink it. He is knowledgeable, kind and clearly passionate about wine. I felt comfortable asking lots of questions and learning fun details about what I was purchasing- it made the whole experience even more memorable.
