A great pit stop to make when you need to stock up for a weekend of fun! They have a great selection of products to choose from and the owner is very knowledgable and offers great suggestions. This place has also been doing a great job to make all of its customers feel safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. Ok, first of all, most of my previous review stands. What has changed in between my last visit and now is the beer selection. I will admit upfront that I did not go in to buy vodka or any other hard liquor - it was strictly a beer run. I walked in and was thanked for my Yelp review by "the young guy" (sorry, I'm drawing a blank on your name). He really appreciated it, even though it wasn't glowing. The selection in the cooler has rotated a bit, and there are some additional brews not called Budweiser or Miller Lite. Plus, there are still the few specials on 6-packs - when I walked in it was a different German beer for $5. There was also a small display for what I believe was different varieties of Bell's. Obviously, that would also rotate. However, the most notable improvement was the actual 6-pack mixer section. Last time I was in, it was on 2 shelves, with not much of a variety to choose from (there was *some* variety, but not a crazy amount). That has changed. It is a full 4 shelves, almost front-to-back, with single bottles from just about every beer they sell except the macros (Bud and Miller). Many different varieties from true craft brews - Bell's, Flying Dog, and others. They are very open to suggestions for new product as well, so if you find something somewhere else, run it past them. They also have wine tastings. Also new are ratings from some website - probably Ratebeer.com, since it was a numerical grade out of 100, and Beeradvocate uses letter grades. That can also help. I'd give them a rounded 3.75/5. I was actually quite amazed at how quickly some changes were implemented. It's no Binny's, but in terms of sampler packs, it beats Trader Joe's by a wide margin, even if the price is more expensive. I walked out with 6 different bottles of 6 different beers I've never had before, and it was worth the price. Keep up the good work. read more

I visited Best Value Liquors over the weekend and let me tell you - complete ripoff. While they had a great selection, they had one bottle of craft beer priced at $35 (normally $20 everywhere else), one bottle priced at $30 (normally $22 everywhere else), and another bottle priced at $22 (normally $16 everywhere else) This place is okay if you're looking to track something down that may be flying off the shelves at other stores, but I wouldn't give my business to somebody who jacks up all the prices. read more

So... you're in the neighborhood, and you're thirsty for a mighty brew. Or, you're shopping at Jewel or Whole Foods, and you're wondering what else might be out there. Or perhaps you are having a small bash and you're interested in picking up a 12 of Lite. So you decide to stop into this neighborhood liquor store, a nondescript establishment like so many other establishments, and the first thing you note upon entering is some characteristic moldy smell. Never mind that, it's the beer you're after. So you wander to the fridge for some cold one's. Wait. What's this? Coney Island Lager? Dortmunder Gold? India Pale Ale? Holy mackerel, you've dug through the dirt and stumbled into something truly bright and shiny. There are beers in the fridge you've never even heard of. Stunned, you stumble backwards, look around. There- on the wall- more brews. Hokey smokes! What is all this! It's the mother load, the wonder land, the pot at the end of the rainbow! IPA's and PA's! Lagers and Pilseners! Darks and whites, wheats and fruits! From afar, Rick spies you. He comes over: "What do you need?" he asks. Little do you know, you're talking to the High Priest of beer. Rick will hear your supplications and suggest just the proper malt to tickle your taste buds. This man loves his beer and he knows his beer. You north siders can have your Binny's, For the beer drinker on the west side, Best Value is truly a diamond in the rough and Rick is awesome. The wall of beer is well stocked and at least for this Oak Parker, contains enough of a selection that I will be exploring it for years to come. I highly recommend Best Value liquor. 5 stars! read more

Customer service and selection are ABSOLUTELY top notch. You'd almost never even believe it from looking at it that inside there is a full wall of single bottle craft beers and certainly one of the most attentive and pumped up beer experts I've met in some time (Ric). I'll be going back very soon and I recommend any local Hop Heads and beer connoisseurs do as well! read more

I was on a quest to find some Dogfish head Punkin Ale. I went to their brewery site to find a local seller and Best Value Liquors came up as being close to my house. I'd been past it a couple times, but never really thought to go in. When I go in to a beer store, I love to find something new. I saw the Punkin Ale and grabbed what was there. A guy came over and told me there was a limit. Then he explained that he wanted to make sure that he had enough for other customers who came in. While it was a bummer to me, Rick introduced himself and proved worthy of the sacrifice. He showed and described a wealth of other interesting brews that made up for my sacrifice. I liked this place and I will return. I appreciate Rick and I am telling my friends about this gem. There were different beers here and that is a cool thing. This is hands-down the best liquor store in Cicero, and it's definitely among the best in the city. You would be hard-pressed to find a shop run by a bigger beer and whiskey lover than Rik, the store's owner. These guys know their spirits, and you will be delighted finding all your favorites plus really amazing exclusives that they carry. Rik goes well out of his way to make personal relationships with his customers, his beer and whiskey suppliers, and we are all so much better off for his hard work! If you're into any other spirit, their gin and tequila selection is phenomenal. There are special bottles in glass displays and behind the counter. They have whatever liquor for whatever occasion. Their prices are reasonable, and sometimes beat Binny's which is impressive for a smaller, locally owned and operated chain. Plus they really want your business, and make a point to help you in any way they can, and that counts for a lot when it comes to earning my business. Need a bottle of Dom? Need a $4000+ dollar bottle of rarefied whiskey? And a case of ice-cold PBR? Best Value Liquors has my business for life. And my favorite part? There's an awesome bar that they operate located on the other side of the building. This place is full-service, full-selection, and as full-satisfaction as you'll find anywhere. read more

To me, Best Value perfectly represents the Cicero/Berwyn/Austin/Oak Park neighborhood in which it sits--a little gritty on the outside (which will be resolved, at least in part, when the Roosevelt construction is finally finished), but a hidden gem within!! I can walk to Best Value, which is how I found it in the first place. On each of my first few visits, I was looking for specific wines (to accompany meals), and always received great (and right on!) recommendations from Rik. On a later visit, I checked out the beer case and was blown away to find my very favorite, very hard to find (and very limited in supply) local-ish brew! Yahoooooo! Rik and the other wonderful fellows who work there have been happy to take requests, happy to place a 6-pack of a specialty brew on hold on occasion, etc., and are just, generally, very nice, customer service oriented folks! Of special note is Rik's wall of specialty brews, all available for a very reasonable mix and match price. It's been a great way to explore various beers without committing to a whole pack, and I have NEVER been disappointed with the choices (there are lots of them!) and the recommendations. As far as I can tell, Rik and this joint each have very promising futures! I am thrilled this is happening in MY neighborhood! Now, to get that construction finished . . . . read more

Great store! Love the Wall of Beer and the great selection of bourbon and whiskey at a really reasonable price. The owner Rik was super sweet and talked me into buying some specialty Belgian ale after seeing that I was buying Hoegarden. We had a nice conversation and you can tell that he's really passionate about his beer! I appreciate the level of service he even came over for an introduction and handshake before I had made my purchase. It's not super close to me, but I'll definitely go out of my way to make it out to Best Value again. read more

After washing my car one hot, summer day I stopped into BV by chance since it was just down the street a couple blocks from the car wash. Although it may just look like another neighborhood adult beverage store, it has the best selection of microbrews that I have found in the area. As others have noted, on the back wall there is an impressive selection of microbrews picked out by Rik. Rik enjoys sharing his knowledge with customers, and works to get new things in the store. What a hidden gem. I'd lived just a few blocks from this place for four years before going in, as I'd assumed it was just a run-of the-mill Bud and Miller type corner liquor store. Boy, was I wrong. The back wall is a beer-nerd paradise, with plenty of Great Lakes and other regional breweries represented. Rik is always up to recommend something, and they have a great "make your own 6 (or 4) pack" section if you want to get to sampling. Great beer selection, I remember being blown away when I moved to the area by it. There is also a good selection of most any spirit you could look for as well as mixers, garnishes, etc... Rick is awesome and helpful; always willing to suggest something cool they just got in. The other day I needed bottle of Moët &Chandon Imperial on kind of short notice and Turns out they keep champagne chilled behind the counter, made my day easier- little things like this make it really nice to go there. 4/5 because in reality it's not the greatest liquor store ever ( i would do 4.5 if I could). The selection is amazing especially considering it's size and location but the adjoining bar seems pretty shady and I have been hit up for change/smokes once or twice by bums hanging around. I was very happy to discover the selection that this store had. They actually have a better beer selection than whole foods, binnys or other high end places like that. There beer buyer (rick) really knows his beer. I can tell that he makes a very strong effort to keep rare beers in stock. read more
