I am writing as a concerned parent of a child with special needs to share my experience with this…read morechildcare facility so that other families can make informed decisions. My child has developmental needs that require patience, understanding, and appropriate support. Prior to enrollment, I communicated these needs to the facility and was given the impression that they would be accommodated. However, my experience after enrollment was very different from what had been discussed. During our time at the center, I became increasingly concerned about how my child was perceived and treated. At one point, I was informed that the facility primarily serves what was described to me as "normal" children, and it was suggested that my child was not an appropriate fit for their program. Ultimately, my child was dismissed from the facility. I want to emphasize that, in my observation, my child did not pose a threat to staff, other children, or himself. His behaviors are related to communication challenges, and he is able to respond positively to redirection when handled with care and consistency. I found the overall interaction with management to be unprofessional and, at times, dismissive of my child's needs. As a parent, this experience was both discouraging and deeply concerning. I am sharing this so that other parents of children with special needs are aware and can carefully evaluate whether this environment will be supportive and inclusive for their child. Every child deserves understanding, respect, and equal access to care, regardless of their abilities.

We will always cherish the memories we've made with our school family, from fall festivals and gingerbread house parties to game nights, graduations, field trips and more. Even more meaningful are the relationships we've built with the incredible teachers and staff along the way. The team at this school is genuinely passionate about what they do. I scheduled a tour for La Petite Academy Merritt Island. Juan who greeted us was very nice and professional and turned out to be the one to give us the tour. As he was walking us through he explained every room and set up. The first thing I noticed while walking through was that it wasn't as diverse as I was hoping for. Then when we got to the class that my son would be in, there was four children in there and three of them was laying on the floor with dirty, runny noses and playing in their snot. Huge turn off and red flag. The part that confirmed it for me that my son would not be going there was how the teacher (or whatever they're called because she definitely wasn't a teacher) was looking at my son like he was a foreign object. That was a red flag for me and further let me know that she wasn't used to seeing or working with black children. She didn't utter two words to him nor did she interact with him. Literally just stared at him. At that point it was time to end the tour because it was no point in continuing on.

Based on those conversations, I believed they were prepared to support him. My son attended for less than a full week before being expelled. Like many toddlers starting a new daycare, he experienced separation anxiety. Adjustment takes time -- often more than a few days -- especially for young children in a brand-new environment. Instead of working with us on a transition plan or offering strategies to help him acclimate, the school quickly escalated concerns. On his final day, I was called to pick him up because he ran from the playground area. When I arrived, my 3-year-old was barricaded under the front desk, visibly distressed, with tears and mucus on his face. He appeared to be in a full fight-or-flight response. He was suspended that day and shortly after expelled for being labeled "aggressive." There was no collaborative discussion, no behavior plan, no transition support -- just immediate removal. Every child deserves patience, empathy, and age-appropriate understanding. Toddlers are not teenagers; they are still learning how to regulate emotions in new environments. I did not feel that my son was given compassion, grace, or the opportunity to adjust. If you are a parent of a sensitive child, a child with separation anxiety, or a young Black boy who may already be unfairly labeled, I strongly encourage you to ask detailed questions about how behavior concerns are handled and what support systems are in place before enrolling. There are centers that believe in partnership with parents and child development -- I would recommend seeking those options.

Our boys are learning songs, their colors, shapes, and how to color in the lines. They ask for parent involvement in bringing healthy snacks, and in appreciating staff. If they never have met a parent and even if you have a key card to enter the building, they still want to see your ID; which gives me additional sense of security. They have an option to rent a key card so each parent can buzz in. No key card? You have to ring the doorbell. Again, amazing sense of security for me and the kids LOVE to swipe the cards at the door! I also love the protective/privacy of their playground. 1. No weirdos can just pass by to observe the kids. 2. It's separated by appropriate age groups for what equipment they play on and 3. It's protected so the kids aren't always exposed to the sun =sunburn. The director is so awesome and patient, and very strict on the rules for EVERYONE. I haven't seen favoritism at all, which is something I like. She can't be talked into bending the rules for a pitty story from the parents. Lastly, the teachers are AHHHMAZING! They outwardly show how patient they are with these kids and are so patient with parents, too. You can see the love and genuine care they have for each child. Parents, please read this before choosing this school…read more I debated writing this review, but after our experience--and the lack of any follow-up--I feel other parents should know. During the tour and orientation, the school was warm and welcoming. We were told about a "take a village" approach, that every child is different, and that teachers would adjust their style to meet each child's needs. As a first-time school parent, that sounded perfect. That was not our experience. On my son's first day, things were already confusing. He was placed in a classroom that wasn't actually his assigned room, and we were told his teacher wasn't available yet. I made it very clear that this was his first-ever school experience and that he had no idea what to expect. Less than two hours after drop-off, we received a call saying he had been pacing, humming, not following circle time, and had hit a teacher and attempted to scratch another child. I want to be clear: I do not excuse those behaviors. But I was shocked at how quickly my four-year-old--on his very first day of school--was judged as not being a good fit. We were also told he should be tested for autism based on those first couple of hours, which was incredibly upsetting. What made it even more difficult is that during orientation we were told the school would be patient, flexible, and supportive of children adjusting at their own pace. That was not reflected in our experience. He was given less than two hours to adjust to a completely new environment before conclusions were made about him. The hardest part was picking him up and seeing that he was actually happy--playing, engaged, and not wanting to leave. He cried the entire way home because he wanted to go back to school. After all of this, the school never followed up with us or checked in on him. I understand schools have to protect staff and other children, and I understand not every school is the right fit for every child. But there is a big difference between saying that and making a first-time student feel like he failed on day one. I'm sharing this so other parents--especially those sending their child to school for the first time--ask very specific questions about how adjustment periods are actually handled. For our family, this was not the right environment for our child, and I wish we had known that before his first day.
