The building & location is unassuming, but the equipment is all new & the eye doctors are totally wonderful. My exam was quick, comprehensive, and professional. After my appointment, I picked out new eyeglasses and they were ready for pick up in less than two weeks. They accept most insurance & are a great option for johns island residents. This eye center is about 5 minutes from my house. It was the convenient choice, but it turned out being an incredible. Everyone in the office is so friendly and willing to help. The woman in the glasses area was awesome and gave great advice. I didn't pick out glasses, but was told I could come back without an appointment when they had a few more options. I had an appointment for 2:00, which I found out when I got in was the end of the lunch break so the door does not unlock until 2:00 exactly. I had filled out my paperwork ahead of time from the website, gave it to the receptionist, and took a seat in the waiting room. I waited until 2:18 to go into an exam room so I was a little nervous for how the rest of my visit was going to go, but they really turned it around after that! A technician took me into a room to do some of the eye testing with me and then took me to another room to see the doctor. Doctor Sarah just started at this practice and I am very excited to be able to go see her each year for my eye check ups. She was kind, explained what she was doing, and really took her time to understand my concerns. read more

I can't think of a time where I have had a worse customer experience. The doctor put the fear in me in the first 5 minutes of our our discussion that he thought I was at risk of going blind due to severe glaucoma. (While I was in the waiting room I heard him using similar tactics on another patient). As a result, I signed an authorization to receive my previous records which they did nothing with until I had to call several times. Once the records came in, the receptionist advised the doctor would call me to discuss his findings which NEVER HAPPENED despite multiple follow ups. They also sold me an expensive pair of glasses that they told me would correct my issues with night vision. Of course, those glasses were worthless and corrected nothing. I have received ZERO value from this doctor and would strongly recommend taking your business elsewhere. read more

Wow!! From the moment I called and spoke with the receptionist Jennifer I knew this was going to be a good experience! I'm originally from Long Island, NY and my son had recommended this office. For the past 3 1/3 years I was still visiting my eye dr on Long Island. I was open to trying a new brand of contacts. So off to see Dr. Bohac. I have never had such a through eye exam, EVER! Not only was Jennifer very knowledgeable, Dr. Bohac also explained everything to me. Not your typical rush through exam. He truly cares. To top it all off, I am wearing the most comfortable contacts ever! Crystal clear! Just different from any other ones I've worn. He knew right away which ones would work for me! Thank you! I have been trusting Dr. Bohac with my sensitive eyes for years. During my last appointment for my routine eye exam he hurt mye left eye. He drug his fingernail down my eyeball when he pulled down my lower lid then he pushed down on my oil gland causing his fingernail to press into my eyeball.I told him how he was hurting me and he told me to push my head forward. I had absolutely no warning he was going to do this. I was in immediate eye pain with tearing on the outer corner. My corneas are half the thickness of a normal cornea. He acted like it was no big deal.When a I got home 2 hours later, I called him and told him I was in extreme eye pain and my lower lid was swelling because of what he had done to me. He told me to take ibuprofen. This was on a Friday so everyone was closed. By Friday night I was in so much eye pain ,I could not function,I was even sensitive to light. I called him and he would not return my calls.I text him asking him to see me and he responded by telling me to go to the E.R. and to leave him alone. I did go to see an optomolgist and the doctor said it was very irritated. It took 4 weeks for my eye to be normal again and, I had to pay to get it looked at. Now Dr. Bohac has terminated me as he patient. He no longer will see my 3 adult children or my husband. He never apologize for the severe eye pain he caused me to have.I am being treated like it was my fault when all,I did was trust him with my eyes. read more

I live on James Island & got my eyes checked (& my prescription written) by Dr. Sun whose office is located in the Wal-Mart on Folly Rd & George Griffith Blvd. She did a fine job with my exam and the main reason I went to her is because her office is very close to me. Rx in hand, I was ready to buy new glasses. Having bored of wearing contacts, and tired of wearing variations of the same old wire frames, I was looking for something new. I found the exact pair of glasses that I wanted--a plastic-framed pair of Ray Bans at the West Ashley Costco. Exact except that I wanted that style in tortoise shell instead of black. I inquired, and they said that they couldn't (or wouldn't) get them for me. I was frustrated and annoyed but not dissuaded from my choice. I wanted that pair of glasses and nothing else--I would have them no matter if I had to order them online and ship them to my insurance company to fill the lenses (but since my insurance would pay if I went to an in-network provider, I was determined to find a covered authorized dealer.) To save you some time, dear reader, after LOTS of calling around, I found Angel Oak Eye Center (through my Vision Insurance listings) to be the ONLY authorized Ray Ban dealer in the Charleston area (who were in my insurance network & who were willing to work with me.) The women I spoke to on the phone were exceptionally nice and were very patient with me. They only had a few Ray Ban sunglasses models in stock, but were willing to call corporate to see if they would be allowed to order outside their normal stock. They always called back (several times) as promised and, after pretty exhaustive research on their end, got the exact model that I just had to have. I was so happy, I also had them order me a pair of Folding Wayfarers (which are super cool!). It took me a couple of trips to get the focal point of my sunglasses dialed in due to the size of the lens, but Matt in the eyewear shop was very nice & patient. Angel Oak Eye Center on John's Island absolutely went out of their way to help this very satisfied customer...and I wasn't even Dr. Bohac's patient!...they did more for me before I ever even set foot in their shop than any other optometrists office I've ever been to. OH...and they didn't even charge me for either of my special order Ray Bans (both of which had to be ordered from the plant in Italy where they make them!) until I came to try them out and take them home!!! WOW! If you live in the center of James Island and just need an eye exam, Dr. Sun is very nice and does a great job. If you like Amazing service and a friendly staff who will go the extra mile to win a customer, go over to Angel Oak Eye Center. It's not that far. (I used to think John's Island was SO far. It isn't. Get over it.) I'm definitely going to Dr. Bohac next time & my wife says she is too. P.S.: it's in a little old house on the left as you drive down Maybank (coming from J.I.) keep an eye out & don't miss it! P.P.S.: when I went back to have my lenses adjusted I discovered, that they have expanded their Ray Ban selection considerably. (They now even stock the Folding Wayfarers!)
