This was my first visit at Angela Cosmai and I was impressed by how welcoming and calm the atmosphere was. The energy is wonderful and I like that there is sage, water fountains, and little spiritual things around the salon. It's not in your face with it but if you're a spiritual person, you notice it. The salon is like a boutique, very cute, and inviting. My stylist was Barbie and she did an excellent job at dry cutting and coloring my hair for my wedding. Her energy is absolutely positive and infectious. She really makes you feel excited for the hair experience and confident in it and in yourself. She's downright amazing! She always seems to get what I have in my mind when I go in for a cut. I would echo the sentiment expressed by Mel C. I went to Angela Cosmai because it was close to my house at the time and I wanted get a trim. I cannot recall the person who cut my hair, but I would describe the service and overall result as average. The woman who cut it was very nice, but that is really all I can say for the salon. Angela Cosmai is a very talented hair colorist. She also works at the Pierre Michel salon in NYC and is highly in demand there. After 16 yrs in Stamford she recently moved to a beautiful new location on Greenwich Ave. She has brought on another talented colorist Kelly Cronin who spent many years at Louis Licari ( long considered one of NYC's best salons for color). Kelly has been coloring my hair for over 15 years. I have followed her wherever she goes. She is a fantastic colorist. I have brown hair and want very subtle highlights, not anything too obvious, and Kelly always nails it. In the past my color would get too brassy but Kelly always achieves a natural, subtle look. Greenwich is lucky to have these super talented colorists in town. No need to go into the city for my color anymore!!! read more

This is the only place that I will get my haircut. I have been a client for over 2 years and recently moved to New York City. Tried one upscale salon in NY but it did not compare to the quality or service I receive at Angela Cosmai. I will now travel from NYC to Stamford just to get my haircut. Their stylists are extremely well trained and know how to give you exactly what you want. Their prices are reasonable and I definitely feel that I am paying a great price for an even better haircut. Their management is very friendly and helpful, makes you feel welcome and comfortable while you are at the salon, something I have not found in other places. All the stylists are great, & really will take the time to listen to you & guide you towards getting the right cut & color. What I really appreciate is the non pretentiousness of the staff- they are down to earth & welcoming - I've been to all the fancy salons in the area ( & NYC ) & all you get is attitude & so so service. I tried this salon for the first time this past week for highlights and was so impressed with my entire experience. The staff was welcoming and did everything possible to make sure I was comfortable. I work many hours and really appreciated the fact that I could truly relax and get away from it all. The salon is very pretty too. My hair looks great and I loved the complimentary blow dry (not sure if they always do that when you just get color but it was included on my Groupon) Most salon do not blow dry your hair when you only get color but I have never understood that. I have tried several salons in Stamford and found that they could not either get the cut right or the color! New to Yelp and this is my first review ... so here goes nothing! Have been to Angela Cosmai 3 times in the last 2 months - first time for cut, second for color and now for second cut. In all three cases, the staff was friendly, professional and, above all, 100% committed to making feel and look great. I love my hair and the cost is well worth the personal attention and exceptional service I received. As for the atmosphere, I far prefer their unfussy decor and the "no attitude" look and feel much more than other places I've been to in the Stamford area - nice to look great and feel relaxed when I walked out. I've been to various salons/spas in Manhattan, Stamford, and Greenwich, searching for a great stylist and colorist. It took me quite a few years but, I finally found the total package at Angela Cosmai Salon and have been going there for the past 2 years! The minute I walked in, I was greeted with a warm welcome from Liz, the salon manager. This was such a nice change from the large salon/spas I've tried in the past. Now, each time I walk in she greets me by name, which is nice! The atmosphere is always warm and welcoming and the staff takes great care of their clients unlike some of the bigger salon factories I've been to where you feel like just another number. Donna is AMAZING! Her haircuts are magnificent...and they last! I don't think there has ever been a time that I didn't get a compliment on my style after leaving the salon! My husband also gets his haircut from Donna now. Ashling is my colorist there and, she too is FABULOUS! My hair always looks so healthy and shiny after my color and highlights. Ashling is now also my makeup artist. OMG! I've never had someone do my makeup so well. She has done it for events that I've had to attend and even for my own wedding! I've used lots of makeup artists (including celebrity artists) and Ashling is by far the best makeup artist out there! Between the management staff, the ambiance they have created in the salon, the stylists, colorists, and the products... Angela Cosmai Salon definitely has the total package! I can't really understand these other reviews. None of them seem to acknowledge that Stamford is incredibly lucky to have such easy access to one of the world's greatest--and yes that is no exaggeration--technicians in hair color and hair color repair. Angela Cosmai is pretty much a legend. I worked in the magazine business for years and she was our go to resource for everything related to hair color. At my last magazine, which reached 3.2 million subscribers, we had access to the who's who in hair color--pretty much every colorist to the stars you can mention wanted to talk to our beauty editors and get their names in the magazine--but we always trusted Angela to give the best advice and get the best results. The hair "makeovers" she did were incredible. I still work in the city, and I live in Westchester, but I happily make the drive to this salon so that Angela can do my color. Angela was the only person I trusted to color my teenage daughter's hair ....she's pretty much foolproof. I really hate to write Meh reviews ... But what is the purpose of Yelp if it's not to be truthful. So I went to the salon in Stamford with a Living Social for a single process color. The young colorist was very nice and friendly. She let the color rest for 45 minutes and then shampooed. Once she had rinsed my hair she asks me if I wanted a blow-dry, which makes me understand that it is not part of the service and have to pay extra. I tell her no, so I dried my hair by myself like I am at home. I know some salon do that, but I don't get it ... I think it is stupid for 2 reasons : first, you don't have the "waaaahhh, I look beautiful" excitement that you should get when you look at yourself in the mirror after been blow dried by a pro, and second : other people don't have the "waaahhhh she looks beautiful" when they look at you leaving the salon. I think having a well styled client leaving your salon is the best 'free' advertisement billboard you can ask for as a salon owner !!?! So I don't get how you can leave a client goes who is not a living proof of your talent. And by the way, when I looked at myself closer, the color didn't cover my 3 gray hair and none of my friends who saw me right after did notice I just came back from the salon ... I guess it was one turn for nothing ... I lost the value of my coupon there ... Oh, read this too : when I asked how much I should add to my coupon to get highlights instead of a single process color, she replied : we run a promotion, it is $150 ... instead of $300 !!! What ??? I deeply believe the Manhattan price shouldn't apply in Stamford ... the salon is nothing fancy and the location is average ... $300 for highlights : I'd rather go to NYC ! Angela Cosmai is a gifted colorist, and I don't say that lightly. I have dark brown hair and every other expert I saw before I discovered her turned my greys into brassy dark red. She restored my original color. With Angela brunettes don't have to take a back seat to blondes, though her blonde customers are happy too. Her salon is relaxed and comfortable. This is the first time I have ever written a review online for anything, but after having read the two that were already posted, I felt I had to write & post this one. I have had my hair hilighted for many years, sometimes locally in Queens where I lived and for a number of years by superb colorists at well-known Manhattan salons. After moving to Stamford, I decided to try the Angela Cosmai salon which was highly recommended to me by my facialist--an offer presented by Living Social helped me to make that decision. I couldn't have been more pleased with the results: fabulous shades of natural looking blond expertly placed--and, by the way, blow dry included. And now for the male perspective... I have relocated here recently and have been searching for a hair stylist who could measure up to the one I left behind in Pennsylvania. After trying three different salons in the area, I have finally found Barb (aka the Sculptress). And I am so glad I did. When others blamed my weird cut on cowlicks and coarse gray hair growing in, Barb took it all on and overcame the challenges so that just about every time I leave the salon I get compliments on my hair - no lie, no exaggeration. For a guy, it's nice to know that I am not getting a formula haircut, but one that works with my actual head shape and hair patterns. Can't ask for more that that - except for color. We've been adding some dye to tone down all the gray and the more youthful cut and color have taken years off my looks. I still look like I'm in my late 40s,early 50s, when I turn 65 later this year. For professionals in the work world trying to keep a competitive edge in an increasingly younger, more aggressive workplace, I cannot recommend this salon enough. Angela Cosmai is a known colorist in the celebrity world and she has shared her secrets internally so they deliver... Totally! I cannot recommend more highly. read more
