I've been to ACCC three years now. It's awesome! I've been with a group of 4th, 5th & 6th graders each time and we have a wonderful time! They have a TON of things for the kids to do during free time. The employ caring people who get to know the kids names and who don't roll their eyes when they have to make something different for one kid's food allergies. I've posted a ton of pictures! You can't go wrong taking any group to ACCC!!

    Gettin ready to zip line!!

Our church picked out this camp and I have to say that I was VERY skeptical about it. We have tried so many different camps and have had some really bad camps and some good camps. We had no clue what to expect, what accommodations they had, what activities, etc. The distance is great! The squiggly road up there sucks, but it's not far which kinda justifies going up there. When you get there it's a beautiful spot, nice nature, they have a basketball court, swimming pool, open area to play, archery, and a zip line. I actually really liked the place for the following reasons: - The cabins were all together - The cabins weren't far from the dining hall or the chapel. - Everything seemed to be close and tight knit where you don't need to walk and walk and walk just to reach somewhere. - The staff was kind. - They have sound already set up! It's plug and play (which is freakin awesome) - The zip line was pretty rad. They allowed my 3yr old to zip line twice! She loved it! I totally enjoyed the camp site and ppl. I wish I got to do archery cause I heard they use compound bows, but didn't get a chance to do that. If you're looking for a good camp site, try this place out. It is seriously an awesome place!

I have served in my church for years now and I have to say that out of all the places we have had Confirmation retreats, this is by far one of my favorites. My church group and I just actually came down from a retreat this past weekend and I got to say that they have done great renovations to the cabins and are still seeking to improve them. Now each cabin has their own showers and some are even newer than others that they have a mini kitchen area with a sink and fridge. I remember a few years ago that our youth had only access to showers outside their cabins. They have also have made the site handicapped accessible for a few years now, which is great since it use to be all dirt paths leading to the cabins and various areas of the site. The location is beautiful and I feel very reflective up there since we are so far away from the city. I love that they have a fire pit that we use for bonfires and they have an amphitheater that we use for activities and talks. The staff their are great and helpful, even with new management taking over. And best of all is the food we got on retreat. They are very accommodating for dietary needs and there was plenty of food for seconds and even thirds. Another favorite part of this site was discovering the various team building activities they had to offer and our youth loved them and really grew as a group from them too! So definitely if you are considering a place to have a retreat or even a camp, don't forget to give this place a chance!

I know they did so much more than we are even aware of behind the scenes, and we are so grateful for all of the staff. They were communicative, made us aware of red flags in the weather as the weekend got closer, and we generally felt very taken care of. The cabins were well-kept and clean, stayed warm against the cold weather, and had electricity for charging and lights. To future couples, I highly recommend having your camp wedding weekend here. Please note that this is very much a summer camp on mountainous terrain and is not easily accessible by anyone with difficulty walking - Jim is able to accommodate with advanced warning if you have your ceremony up at the chapel amphitheater (like he did with my grandfather) but there were at least two other guests that I should have specifically asked him for his help to accommodate. Plan ahead for the needs of your guests!

Camp ELK Review My son was physically bullied at Camp ELK…read moreduring the summer of 2019, and was turned away when he asked for help. He came off of the bus after camp in tears, showing us scrapes on his legs from being pushed onto the ground, said he couldn't write us because the bully in his cabin had gotten the other campers to gang up against him and they were shaking his bunk when he was in bed. My son said that there was a lot of physical bullying when they were in the cabin and the staff was outside. One night he reached out to his cabin staff by the name of Kyle, and told him that this bully was in the cabin kicking other boys in the private, and Kyle said, "I don't care - go back to your bunk." When I called the camp mid-week to check on my son, being that it was his first time at camp and he looked unhappy in the posted photos, I was told by 2 staff (including the Director, Jim) that he was doing great and that they didn't hear of any issues. While at pickup after hearing of these bullying incidents, we spoke with the Director, Jim, about how my son was physically bullied and how the cabin staff turned away his plea for help, and the Director Jim said, "That wouldn't happen", and completely dismissed all of these incidents. I am posting this for other parents to see and for the Director Jim and volunteers to see. Young kids should not be left unattended in the cabin, and the volunteers need to be retrained on how to watch for signs of bullying and how to address it.

Shout out to Beatrice for being awesome with the kids! -2 stars for the bathroom/shower situations. It doesn't sound like there are many bathrooms for the amount of kids there. She mentioned some being clogged and feeling rushed due to several others needing to use the bathrooms. There were so many activities that she felt like there weren't many breaks to use the bathroom. In her dorm there were only 2 bathrooms/showers. They got back late after 9pm and rushed to squeeze people through to shower. People were barging in having to use the bathroom as others showered. Apparently the shower curtain was so minimal, another girl used an extra bed sheet to help create privacy, which all the girls appreciated. Maybe add a couple port-a-potties?! Might be wrong, but also sounded like not many trustworthy sources for water and hydration outside of meal time.

We loved the nature hike we had "Jelly" (a couple of our groups got rained out-obviously to no fault of the camp), we enjoyed archery, paint ball sling shots with "Stitch", painting wood necklaces, drama circle, and an amphitheater with breathtaking views of the the sunset. We loved our hike to the lake for canoeing. I too thought the pool was chilly but it was clean! Their swim rules seemed to be really intense to me. "No jumping off the edge of the pool" hmmm ok. In my opinion overly cautious. However, the Rock wall was a blast, equipment was in good condition. Hatchet throwing was hard, but fun. I wish the hatchets were sharp enough to grab the wood. It was rare anyone stuck one into the log rounds. Some combination of wood being too hard or axes not balanced correctly made that activity a struggle. We enjoyed trying. The team building activities were thoughtful and stretched our girls as individuals and forced team unity. Maybe my favorite part of all of camp. They lost a star for food quality and portions but the staff was always in good spirit. I also wish our group had the entire cafeteria to ourselves as we often were low on space at tables and often went outside as our designated seating was full. But the food was served on time and they got a lot of people food in timely fashion. They were organized. Our cabins were dry when it rained and i felt safe from the elements and wildlife that can live nearby. Some mattresses were thicker than others. I was comfortable enough for a week of camping. The plumbing struggled at times but not sure that was the camps fault or the 85 GIRLS who MAY have not disposed of things properly. Lol Overall I think with some retraining on camp cooking and a minor tweak here and there this would be a 5 star camp. The location was beautiful. The staff was friendly. The activities were super fun!

To have a fun place to come, away from the city with so many different activities, is a blessing for the participants. The setting is nestled in a scenic piece of valley along Lake Hughes Road. We went up to the camp for the day last Saturday to be part of a tribute for a nurse who's retiring. We had previously participated ten years ago, staying for the whole weekend. A myriad of activity venues include an impressive and extensive ropes facility, large swimming pool, tennis courts, basketball court, go-cart area, hiking trails, arts & crafts building, baseball diamond, soccer field, and more. During camp they offer scuba lessons, massages, campfire entertainment, and other options for all ages. A large dining hall makes for mealtime togetherness. Pingpong tables and other indoor games are under the same roof, but in a separate room. The sleeping accommodations are mostly home-style bunk bed rooms holding about 8 people. Shared bathroom with shower for each room. As I recall, they had a few family units, but otherwise the rooms are segregated by gender to make the most of the space. At under 90 minutes to get from Simi Valley to this great venue for outdoor fun and adventure, it's a hit. It has a homey, homemade kind of vibe.
