In-Shape Family Fitness in Palmdale are complete rip offs... only giving a 1 cause I couldn't go any lower. I cancelled my membership (which was on hold for a few months) due to medical reasons and the membership had continued to show active... The crazy thing about this is, you can't cancel your membership if it's on hold the only thing you can do, is make it active, then cancel it. The issue with this is, like me, once you make it active, they charge you in full for another month, I would suggest: 1. You put in a tech enhancement to allow customers to make a cancellation from a hold... 2. Put the information upfront where it's clear during your on hold flow, that if you decided to cancel later on, you will be charged for the following month... And let's not forget, you guys sent me an email saying I would be charged for $1.87, then sent another email 3 days later saying, I would be charged $50.57 for something I have not and cannot use... you guessed it, they charged me 6/2 for $52.44. I sent you my medical information (which is beyond me over a month ago) that outlines I cannot workout, and I'm stillllll waiting for you to confirm that I won't be charged. I was so frustrated because the In-Shape app locked me out several times over the week. Someone at the front desk tried to help me resolve this last night, but I was locked out again today. The good...... the majority of the front desk personnel are friendly and greet you when you come in and tell you to have a good night upon leaving. Such a simple interaction to make customers feel "at home". Well done front desk employees. Much appreciated! The good..., it has a pool, jacuzzi, and sauna. The bad: I mainly use the pool for lap swimming. Love the fact that the water is at a good temperature. ( -the pool, not the jacuzzi which is usually not hot enough). The pool however is almost always extremely cloudy and the bottom appears to be dirty , often slippery , and top edges around the entire pool looks like it hasn't been cleaned in years. You can't really see how cloudy it is until you're actually in the pool swimming. It's bad. It's not that they don't use enough chlorine because even after showering, twice, my skin still smells like chlorine and my skin and hair get incredibly dried out. I have used the public city pools and never does my body continue to smell of chlorine after showering. I understand the pool gets heavy use on days when they have their aqua-fit class but your pool needs some serious attention. I'm not the only one that feels this way. I overheard one of your customers bringing it to a staff member's attention and was basically dismissed. Not a good look. Also the floor in the women's bathroom and in the sauna is disgusting. I was barefoot , one time, in both the sauna and changing room and in that short amount of time the bottom of my feet were filthy. I'm happy I have a place just down the street to work out. They removed cleaning towel stations and rarely have paper towels or cleaning fluid. Machines are often out of service. I love coming to In-Shape although there are things I don't like. They take their sweet time fixing broken machines. I really dislike seeing men in the women's room. Like go to the weight room and stop taking up space/machines for the women who are scared to go into the weight room. So I have been going to this gym on and off since the day it opened and have been a member since. I love it because it's literally a 3-5 minute drive from my home, and it's vary convenient. however, I would like to see this gym be a little stricter with rules. The first one being absolutely no men whatsoever in the girls only room, women come in here to feel more comfortable and to do certain workouts they wouldn't necessarily feel comfortable with the man staring at them doing, and for some reason, men still continue to walk in or glare inside when they have absolutely no business being in there. Another rule I would like to see is children under the age of 18 not allowed. I'm sorry if this comes off rude, but it is very aggravating when some of us come straight out of work to work out and there's five teenage boys all surrounding one machine, not even working out and just using the spot as a hang out, Just a few days ago I saw what looked like a 10 year old boy working out on a machine with no parents in sight. If people can't afford the daycare well then maybe they need to find somebody else to babysit and stop using the gym as one. Also when it comes to certain machines being broken, it usually takes them a very long time to fix. For example, I've been going consistently for a month and there's been a machine that's been out of service since before I started. And my last complaint would have to be the cleanliness has truly gone downhill since the gym opened most of their sanitize bottles half the time smell like water with maybe a drop of cleaner and the restroom is disgusting. I usually go to the gym in the morning when I can before work and take advantage of the showers, which is very nice however it's been a month consecutively and there's been the same purple hair tie on the floor of the shower for a full month!! It's literally in the middle of the shower, which tells me they haven't moved the shower mat or cleaned at all in there, not to mention I don't think the sauna is ever cleaned either..... I love this gym for convenience and honestly have never really had a problem with customer service or any of the workers. But then again I have never really had a reason to talk to them... just please, I know I'm not the only one that feels this way about this gym, since most of my friends and family also go to this gym. This is the first gym I've joined with my boyfriend and we had really high hopes going here. The staff all looked really friendly. The representative that we signed up with boasted about the hydro massage chairs and the pool, which delighted us. However, we were surprised to find out that we needed a VIP membership for extra money just to use the massage chairs, and when we took a dip in the pool, we weren't allowed towels because we didn't have that included in our membership as well. We felt nothing but disappointment that night. Extra money needed to be paid on top of our membership just to use those features that felt guaranteed to us by our representative. Later in the week, we were scheduled an appointment for a free trainer session. The session was tiring and we both felt like the trainers weren't responsive to us when we were struggling with any exercise. I was being rushed to do exercises because my trainer had an appointment with another client coming up soon. My boyfriend was forced to do a ton of push-ups when he hasnt exercised in so long. Finally we were sat down to discuss joining a program for additional money (about $90 extra) to our membership for our own specialized workout plan. We turned it down, and realized nothing but time was wasted that day. Now, we wanted to freeze our account because college finals were coming up and we had no time that month to work out. When we tried to do it, we were told we were supposed to come at least two weeks in advance because the processing is slow for account changes. The representative there said he would try his best but he had a tone that made us feel judged and ridiculed for trying to freeze our account near the end of the month. Nonetheless it was too late, and I ended up being charged for the month while we weren't going to be able to go. Luckily, customer service solved it later when I called and froze my account for that month and make the payment count for the next month. Finally, over time, we decided the gym wasn't right for us and I was also just wasting money paying such a price for a gym we barely went to. We arrived two weeks early, yet we were told we needed to give at least THIRTY days in advance before cancelling a membership. BUT 'THANKFULLY' the payment wouldn't be the whole price because it wouldn't be a full month. This was frustrating because we needed to pay for a useless period again but we slid with it. Now, since I wouldn't have enough money on my account, we wanted to change the payment account to my boyfriend's. We came to change the account info but we had to sit down and wait for almost 40 minutes. There was only one person working at member services. We had to leave or else I would be late to work. Now recently, my boyfriend came to inshape in person to change it but they wouldn't allow it because I, the owner, wasn't there in person! Unfortunately, I had to leave on vacation and wouldn't be able to come back in time. He was told on the phone that we really needed to change the account by today or else it will be too late and charge my account, but he wasn't told the owner had to be there. So much frustration came from joining this gym, and any other company can have customers edit their account by themselves. I feel like this gym does nothing but scam us by prolonging the processing and causing customers like us to unwillingly pay for another month. read more

For the east side of palmdale this is one of the better gyms however they have been really lax y about getting machines fixed they are down to two stair masters when their is six and they have 24 treadmills which half go unused but the stair masters are always full as well as I can never find 25pd dumbbells anymore and the cable machine in the weight room always has at least one broken area read more

it's always packed, weights all over the place all the time, employees seem friendly but dont do or help much. Your work out will take double the time because of waiting and looking for weights all the time, they close very early on weekends. The real reason i am giving 1 star is: Swam in thier pool for about 45 mins, took a shower and came back to find everybody is staring at the pool, found out that i was swimming with alot of human feces, stayed thier for about 15 mins, nobody did anything about it. Called the GM the next day she said its out of our control and there is nothing they can do for me. Contacted coporate but no body called or emailed back. Honestly wish we had more options on the East side. I find this gym to be HIGHLY annoying at times. For example the kid club hours are wonky and inconvenient. You can't purchase the majority of items in the fridge with your points, and your children can't bring in certain floats during family swim. ALL of the employees are usually approachable. But an incident today was quite over done. I don't think anyone needs multiple encounters regarding what the gym doesn't allow when they are compliant. Today my son brought his toy weapon and they said the specific toy wasn't allowed. Which wasn't a total surprise I just turned and told him that just like we discussed he couldn't bring the toy. I told him to hand it to the girl at the desk. She told me to instead carry it into the Kid Zone area and give it to the employee there. But once we got there she rushed in, interrupts our conversation to address issue with my sons toy. Then proceeds to take it from him. A hassle I could have just done myself after signing him in or at the front counter like I was doing. Then when leaving, upper management was there waiting at the desk to let me know AGAIN that my son couldn't bring the toy. Pretty obvious at this point, so clearly was for nothing more than to parent shame. Yes we know toy weapons are controversial but never the less are toys. I don't criminalize children. I rather foster the interest because it is still a skill required for essential jobs like Military. Which is vital! Regardless of opinion parent shaming is never necessary. I give this 5 stars mainly because of my Trainer Jesse M. I have end stage arthritis and hyper-mobility syndrome and therefore struggle to adapt exercises and stay well rounded. She is always supportive and creates and adapts my routines around how I'm feeling and what I'm capable of. She sends reminders and helps me stay on track. Some days I don't feel up to putting in the effort but if I try to cancel she will encourage me to come in and attempt to accomplish something and I'm always glad I did. I feel much better physically than when I started and my pain is under better control. I highly recommend her if you need a caring, thoughtful, and knowledgeable trainer. The gym itself is pretty good. There are a lot of amenities for the price. (Some machines could use a tune up here and there.) read more

At In-Shape you are just another number. I had been a member of In-Shape for several years. I live on the east side of Lancaster so the only reason I signed-up was due to the convenience of being a few blocks from the now-closed Lancaster location. The gym was clean and reasonable in size, although on some occasions a machine was broken and cleaning towels were rarely on sight. Anyway, I placed my account (along with my parents account) on hold once the lockdowns started even after they reopened their locations. Eventually the Lancaster location was closed. I sent an email requesting they cancel my parents account (because their hold-times on the phone are a nightmare). They never canceled the accounts. Just kept them on hold. 14 months later, I receive several charges of $29.99. So I get on the phone and wait over 15 minutes to explain the situation to the representative. She understood, however, "per policy" she cannot refund me the charges despite admitting the misunderstanding. I understand you have a policy to follow, however, as a business your policy should be flexible to accommodate situations such as mine. It makes for a happy customer, trust, integrity, and friendliness. Instead, your "strict policy" just alienated your customer forcing him to cancel ALL memberships and take his business somewhere else. Instead of dealing with a money-grabbing gym like In-Shape, I am now starting a membership with a local Tae Kwon Do gym that will provide a holistic approach to fitness and see me as an individual and not just another gym membership number. 1/5 for terrible customer service and mediocre member experience FEELS GREAT TO LEAVE IN-SHAPE! read more

Always packed most of the time I can't even get a workout in most of the time I leave and go to a different gym

I'm writing this review as I'm waiting for a machine or bench to open up.. as per usual. Cheap and convenient is the only reason why anyone should come here. The things this gym has over similar gyms like Planet Fitness are classes like Zumba, yoga (really basic), pool, jacuzzi, and nicer locker rooms. Otherwise, for my actual gym goers, places like anytime and golds is far better. This gym is always packed. ALWAYS. 12-2pm is probably your best bet on any given day to have the free weight area to yourself. Not sure what the workers here do. They're definitely not cleaning or making sure the weights are getting re-racked. (Changed to 3 stars after I saw the workers doing some re-racking.) read more

My view has changed since I first reviewed this gym. Was definitely unimpressed at first but seeing the changes that were made through time. I left 24 hours to come here. Some great instructors--Cindy B, Teresa, June, Taka and Kim. Gym is clean and there's always space. Equipment is rarely down and there's never a wait for equipment. Weight room is a average and I'd like to see gym be open 24 hours. Don't use the pool so I don't have any comments here. What I think works for me is the incentives they give for member retention. After so many check in one gets a water or a small gift like a T-shirt or water bottle glasses wireless speakers or bag. Inexpensive items that one gets for promos. Usually gyms give it to new members but what I like best is that it gives to current members. Best advertisement, a member getting a new shirt. read more
