My son attended his first season at Camp Adventurewood in 2023 - it was his first experience at a summer camp and he was a little nervous and shy but all his counselors made him feel so welcome and comfortable and after the first day he was hooked! He loved the variety of activities and made so many new friends. He came home with fun stories each day. I loved that they offered a variety of options from 2 days/week to 5 days. We returned last summer and an unexpected and sudden medical event threw our summer for a loop. They were beyond kind and accommodating. Michael, the owner, personally made sure we were taken care of at a very scary time and was just incredibly kind and communicative. I can't thank him and his staff enough for the support. I would recommend this camp for any family. Its like a classic, old-school summer day camp experience! read more

My son attended Adventurewood camp for the first time this week. For the most part he enjoyed himself -- particularly the characters they introduce throughout the week. However, we decided to pull him out for next week because of a very disturbing situation. He shared that a counselor had pushed him with both hands on his shoulders during a capture the flag activity. He had dropped his flag and was putting it back on when a counselor (he didn't know her name) pushed him back hard enough to make him lose his balance and fall. She also barked "you need to reset!" She didn't ask if he was ok or help him up. You'd think if this was an accidental push and he fell over she would say something like "sorry bud are you ok? Here let me help you up" but nope, not a word. A friend he's attending camp with witnessed the whole incident. Since I pick them both up in the afternoons they both recounted this situation to me and both of them noted how inappropriate her behavior was. I immediately reached out to Michael, the owner of the camp. He said he wanted to identify this counselor and get her side of the story. Understandable. My son felt uncomfortable going back the next day but I reassured him it would be handled and offered to drop him off in the morning and stick around to talk to Michael and the counselor. I wanted him to feel safe. Michael identified her (her name is Carson) and said he wanted to talk to her first, which he did a few feet away from me. I heard her say she didn't push him. They then walked over to me and she again denied everything. So we asked both kids to come over and recount what happened. They both did -- in front of her -- and reiterated she pushed him. She denied even touching him. So Michael suggests at this point that perhaps it was an accident and my son responds by saying "how do you push someone like that by accident?!" No response. So I ask her, are you saying these kids are lying? She again said she didn't touch him and at this point we send the kids away. I'm incensed because not only does she gaslight both of them to their face but tells this bold faced lie to her boss in front of the campers and me. I tell her I believe them and I think she's the one lying. At this point she gives me this dirty look - angry, irritated and almost rolls her eyes at me. I turn to Michael and say "and now she's giving ME an attitude?!" Unbelievable. In a follow up call, he tells me how good of a person she is and that this is shocking for him to hear but that she doesn't seem like someone who would do something like this...that she's getting her teacher credentials and he knows her really well. I am getting the vibe he doesn't actually believe any of this and he sounds very skeptical. I respond by telling him that it's almost always surprising when people exhibit bad behavior and that even teachers do bad things...that doesn't make her any more credible in my eyes. He acknowledged that. In fact, it's worse because I would be really concerned to have someone like that teaching a kid. Lack of empathy, accountability, and integrity. I mean, I think it's great he's trying to have her back but there are moments in life when you need to draw a line and act swiftly...these are one of those moments. Because ultimately, this impacts the reputation of your camp. I told him that it would be good to offer training to his staff in case this ever happens again in the future and honestly he sounded baffled and asked me to clarify...I said well maybe tell your staff not to give dirty looks to a mom who's clearly upset that her son just got pushed by a grown adult at summer camp?? I told him that the response to this situation could've resulted in a totally different outcome. Had she said something like "I really don't recall pushing you but if I inadvertently did and made you feel bad I'm sorry - I didn't mean to do that" - I would've went home that morning feeling fine about the situation. When I told him this he said that he's not going to police all her reactions, that she's still young, that she's still learning and made all kinds of excuses for her. Exhausting. Apparently she got a "warning" and will sit out of the flag activity (umm, ok...). He seems like a smart guy and wish him nothing but success in the future and I was earnestly trying to offer advice for how to handle a situation like this better but it fell on deaf ears. I really hope that some kind of learning comes out of this for both of them. Oh and to top it off, my son's friend told her mom that Carson was giving her looks several times throughout the day today and when she asked what kind she said "side eye" looks. NOT COOL. My son also said she was kind of mean to him but wondering why they were even in close proximity when Michael said they'd absolutely be separated and would not see each other? Validates we both made the right choice by pulling them both out. He offered a refund but I'm still pissed about the situation. read more

My son attended this 2022 summer. Your camp is so friendly, organized, efficient and fun. My 7 yo absolutely loved the camp, activities and staff. It always felt that the camp did not skimp on any materials or supplies. High quality in everything the camp is trying to achieve. I even recommended this camp to my gf who enrolled her two kids while she and her family visited from Paris for a month. Her kids loved it. My son hopes to work at this camp when he is in high school and be a good role model like his counselors were. I felt very safe and comfortable of him getting picked up and dropped off. My 13-year-old son just finished his summer camp experience at Camp Adventurewood, and he had an AMAZING time. When I signed him up, he was a little concerned that being at the oldest end of the age range, it would be more of a "camp for little kids." It turned out that wasn't the case at all. The camp does a great job of grouping the kids into age groups and doing age-appropriate activities. He met and made friends with several kids his age and did many fun things such as archery, canoeing, horse riding, capture the flag, and so much more. At first I thought this camp was a bit on the pricey side, but I came to see that the value is phenomenal. Aside from all the unique experiences that make this camp standout, other camps he has gone to require me to pick him up in the middle of the afternoon. That breaks up my work day considerably. Camp Adventurewood has buses that pick up the kids a certain distance out from the camp! All I had to do was drive to my office to start my work day, and they would be him up there. At the end of the day, they dropped him off at my office. The camp in no way affected my work productivity! The counselors are fantastic! They are kind, helpful, and fun. They really form a bond with the kids and ensure they have a great time and get the most out of the camp. This year was my 8 year old daughter's 1st year at Camp Adventurewood. She is definitely the adventure type, loves imaginary play, always wants to be outside, and loves to run around. After some research, this camp sounded like a good match. I can honestly tell you my daughter's experience greatly exceeded my expectations. Each day, she came home with new developments to an ongoing interactive story that lasted the entire 6 weeks and couldn't wait to tell me all about each of her favorite counselors. I could tell she was cared about and not just another camper. Also, the van service was such a huge perk and a big part of the experience. It was SO convenient! My 7year old needed a bit of sweet relief after dealing with COVID homeschool. Camp Adventerwood is the answer. Peter is so patient and will answer all your questions. The van service provided is a dream. Ms.Hannah and her assistant are so kind when they arrive to pick up W. He's had a great time meeting new friends and doing all the camp has to offer. Archery/panning/capture the flag/canoeing are his favorites. Will definitely attend again next summer... hopefully they can go swimming next year. I am about to send my son to his 2nd year at Camp Adventurewood and he could not be more excited. The camp is so fantastic. They do all kinds of fun outdoor activities, and have no screens which is what I was looking for in a camp. They also will pick up and drop off your kid in a van each day! Can't say enough great things about this camp and Peter! The most unique and fun camp ever! The stories I hear from my son makes me want to go too :) My favorite part is that everything is outdoors so zero electronics. Types of activities include archery, canoeing, hiking, treasure hunts, etc. My son has been going for two years now and can't wait until the next year to go again. I just want to add to my earlier review. They definitely do a lot of fun things here every day. The activities they have the children do are basic get down and dirty fun! There are no screens / no phones allowed . Your child will canoe, horseback ride, make music, dig holes, learn archery, swim nearly every day, role play, and make really good friends. read more

This camp is so amazingly organized and fun! My son has been going here for 5 years and I can't say enough good things about it. They actually have old school camp and activities. He comes home exhausted and happy. He meets new friends every year and really likes his counselors so much that he wants to be a Jr. counselor. My 9 year old son attended Camp Adventurewood for the first time last summer (2022) and had such a fantastic time that he made sure we registered him again for this Summer (2023) as soon as we were able to. He has not stopped talking about how he can't wait for camp! His favorite activities included archery, the treasure hunt and pelting the counselors with water balloons LOL. As a mom, it felt so satisfying to see my son come home good-tired, really happy and needing an epic bath from all of the outdoor play each day. One of my favorite things about Camp Adventurewood is that it is entirely outdoors and there are zero screens in terms of camp activities. The camp is run by a group of truly committed and deeply caring people as well. The bonus of this experience was that my son made a really good friend in the process. My two children have been attending Camp Adventurewood for the past three years, and let me tell you, each school year can not go fast enough for them for Camp to start up. Peter, the camp director, has been extremely helpful and attentive the entire time we have been there. He makes sure that all of our needs are met and that our children have the best experience possible. The camp offers a multitude of activities from canoeing, archery, horse drawn carriage rides, and the most popular being, the interactive treasure hunt. My two sons come home each day filled with excitement as they tell me what happened that day. The counselor staff here is beyond phenomenal, and you can truly sense that their main goal is to provide a safe and fun environment. I recommend this camp to all of my close friends, and all of their kids who have attended have absolutely had a blast. After overlooking all of their COVID-19 safety protocols, I am happy to say that I feel 100% comfortable sending my kids here this upcoming summer. These guys handled things perfectly. They made the hard but right decision not to run in Summer 2020, and are putting everyone's deposits toward Summer 2021. They have also given everyone who signed up for Summer 2020 a BONUS WEEK OF CAMP for free in Summer 2021 as a "thank you". Our family is so grateful that we go to a camp like Camp Adventurewood! By far, the best camp in town! I wish I could give 100 stars. Incredible safe and fun for the kids. My kids absolutely had a blast this summer, even with covid protocols. The days were filled with all types of activities including panning for gold. The staff was incredible making each child make sure they were having fun and being safe. This camp is okay, but many fun activities such as horseback riding, bear attacks, and swimming were removed in recent years, yet the camp continues to advertise as if they remain. Older children (ages 11-13) may find this camp to be uneventful and uninteresting due to the lack of activities they would actually enjoy. For example, the "treasure hunts" tend to cater mostly to the younger children. Children can only hit counselors in water balloon fights, and the counselors hide the artifacts that the children dig for to prevent them from ever finding them faster than intended. The lack of an indoors offers no relief from sweltering summer temperatures, and children are forced to participate in all activities, even if they don't want to. Overall, I would definitely recommend this camp to younger children-- between the ages of 4 to 10, but children 11 years and older might not find this camp to be the right fit for them, and there is no backing out once you've paid-- no refunds. read more

They get a lot of exercise everyday and in addition, have a lot of fun with the imaginary world of adventure this camp puts together. Such an amazing camp! Camp Adventurewood is an amazing experience that children can't find anywhere else. They offer a lot of standard summer camp staples such as horseback riding, archery, swimming, hiking, etc. What makes this camp stand out above the others is the extra effort that goes into it. Campers get picked up by caring and attentive counselors each day, and get to spend their summer on a five week long adventure that carries on throughout the duration of the camp. They find buried treasure, and solve puzzles to thwart adversaries that pop up throughout camp. First off, let me start with the positive which is the camp director Peter who was very easy to contact & reached out immediately when I inquired as to specific games the kids were playing as my (normally incredibly athletic) son didn't seem to be enjoying himself. All of my questions were answered & the lines of communication seemed open. Unfortunately, my son just didn't have a good time at this camp. He felt the days were incredibly repetitive, there were supposed to be big water balloon fights to cool off every day that never materialized and it was HOT, and the kids attending camp overall weren't all that friendly. Maybe it's because this was one of the first summers back from Covid, maybe it's because there's a lack of diversity in the attendees, I'm not sure! I just wish he'd had a better time, esp since it was a huge expense for us that we wanted to gift him after his first year in "real" school. It was just an odd experience as our kid has never had any issues making friends and is definitely a little dude who tends to look for the silver lining. He also had to miss camp for an entire week cause he caught Covid. He did enjoy the "bus" ride to & from camp every day though! read more

Camp Adventurewood has been a highlight of my now-preteen son's summer break since he was four. The owner and staff/counselors are all really outgoing, fun and extremely competent, "working" tirelessly to facilitate an incredibly good time for the kids, with a myriad of outdoor activities and adventures that keep summertime light and full of play. Camp Adventurewood has mastered the perfect balance keeping their kids safe without compromising a really good time. I never worry whether or not my kid is OK because I know he's in great hands. Plus, he loves it. He can't get to the camp van fast enough in the morning and comes home in the afternoon looking like he's played really hard all day. My boys, now 19 and 16, attended Camp Adventurewood every single summer from the time they were in kindergarten. Each started their first summer going 2 or 3 days/wk and by the second summer insisted on 5 days/wk. Every year I asked them if they wanted to go back and it was always an enthusiastic yes! Camp Adventurewood offers lots of great outdoor activities including hiking, swimming, archery and horseback riding. However, what really sets it apart is the amazingly creative "treasure hunt" element. Each summer the Camp Adventurewood days revolve around a different adventure storyline that winds through the day to day activities at the camp. The kids love this! As a parent, I loved that they could be picked up from the house by an air-conditioned van and have a wonderful time with attentive, caring counselors. My first son has been attending Camp Adventurewood for 10 years and it's one of the inspirations of his life. Each year the counselors have mentored him through so much growth and maturity. We have 3 kids, and they have all gone to Camp Adventurewood since they were old enough to go to camp! It was alway an obvious plan for our summers. They were campers until they were Junior Counselors! One even became a Senior Counselor! Their best friends in Pasadena are their fellow campers and camp counselors. Every day is an adventure at Camp Adventurewood, and our kids loved every minute of their 6 weeks every summer. We always knew they were in good hands with the staff there who are so responsible and attentive to the kids.
