Ask the Community - Camp Adventurewood

Hello. Do you provide meals and snacks?

We do not provide lunch or snacks. Campers bring a packed lunch and snacks with them to camp, along with a refillable water bottle. We do provide plenty of cold water each day.

Hello! Where would the rendez vous point be for Palos Verdes? Thank you!

Will our children be able to stay over night or will we have to pick them up every day?

Camp Adventurewood is a day camp only, we do not offer any overnight stays. We do however offer door-to-door van service in 22 neighborhoods and cities.

I didn't see you pick up from Santa Clarita. Where would be the closest pick up point? How much would the 6 weeks be and do you do a sibling discount?

The van route rendezvous location we current offer which is closest to Santa Clarita would be in Sunland off the 210-Freeway at: 10455 Sunland Blvd., Sunland, CA 91040. Thanks.

Is there a discount if you have 2 kids going ? Also if you sign up and something changes what is the refund policy?

Hi Carrie. Thanks for inquiring. We don't offer sibling discounts unfortunately. And at this point in the enrollment period, all deposits are non-refundable. Please let us know if you have any other questions whatsoever. Thanks.

Is the rate different if we choose to drop off and pick up ourselves?

Hi Susan. Good question. The door-to-door van service is simply a free service we offer. Much like our Extended Care is also a free service we offer. There isn't a discount in price if a parent doesn't use them. Let me know if you have any… Read more

Hello! Question- if my young child is not a strong swimmer, will he be exposed to deep water where there is a risk of drowning? Thank you!

Hi Maria. Thanks for asking. As of right now, it is looking like COVID-19 concerns will cause our swimming program to be replaced with Water-Balloon Battles. So no, there would not be any risk with deep water. (Even when we have swimming, the… Read more

Hi Claudia. Typically, there is a full group of twelve campers between ages 12-12¾; and another full group of twelve campers between ages 13-13¾. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!

Is it still open for enrollment and how much?

Hi Liza. Thanks for asking. Unfortunately, our Summer '21 Session is completely full ... with a lengthy waiting list. I'm not confident that most people on the waiting list will get in at this point, so I'd recommend one of the other… Read more

The small class sizes mean every child gets individual attention, and the curriculum is very advanced, engaging, and thoughtfully designed to challenge students while keeping learning fun. The teachers and administrators are exceptional, caring, very communicative, and deeply invested in every child's growth. But what really makes Stratford special is the community. The kids are kind, well-behaved, and genuinely happy. The families are wonderful, invested and share the same goal: creating a nurturing, protected environment where children can still be kids. Parents are on the same page about carefully monitoring what our children see and hear, helping them stay innocent and grounded for as long as possible. People often comment on how sweet and polite the Stratford kids are and it's true! This is especially the case for the kids in 5th grade. They are so kind, welcoming and supportive. The school reinforces the same values we prioritize at home: being good citizens, good friends, and good students. Our family's experience with Stratford has been truly life-changing. Before coming here, our older son went through a very difficult 3rd grade year at another school where he experienced bullying. What hurt us most was that the school failed to inform us despite multiple incidents. There was zero communication until something major happened. Our son suffered in silence for much of the year. When we finally discovered what had been happening, we immediately decided to immediately pull him out and make a change. Stratford was already at the top of my list. I had toured the school and met the principal two years earlier when we were exploring different options -- and, by some miracle, there was one spot open in third grade after another student moved over the holidays. Within a week, our son had taken the assessment and started at Stratford. The transformation was incredible. His anger and sadness melted away, and our sweet, happy boy returned. We will be forever grateful for this school. It's more than just an excellent academic environment, it's a refuge, a true community that supports the whole child and we'll never stop being thankful.

And every time he's gone it's been a 9 or a 10, depending on the friends he meets. The camp has friendly staff and fun activities. Thank you to everyone who works there. He finished summer camp and I put him in Winter Camp for 1 day this year (Friday, 29th). When I picked him up that day I realized it was the last day of winter camp. Unfortunately, the dates I need for my son to be in camp are the first week of Jan. rather than the week of Christmas, since he's off both weeks. I think their schedule is different than my sons school, which is understandable. Either way, it's a great camp and he will be returning in the summer.

My 9-year-old LOVED the winter camp. Highlights were the sewing room (why don't all camps have…read morethis??), the super nice counselors, and the freedom to choose activities. It's a great place for kids who prefer things like video production, animation, and gaming instead of the usual athletic camp activities. It was also super easy to sign up online, it was affordable, and I felt very safe leaving my kid in their care. My ONLY complaint is that they haven't aligned their winter camp dates with the local elementary school vacation schedules. I realize it's likely an issue of location (the camp is held at a school on a different academic calendar), but this is such a great program, it would be life changing to have it available for us working parents of creative/indoor kids throughout the first week of January, too. Either way, we're looking forward to coming back soon.

Kidspace is a nonprofit museum designed to "delight and engage children emotionally, intellectually, and physically through joyful, kid-driven experiences." It is a place for play, discovery, creation, and exploration. It offers a world of curiosity and intrigue. It features 40 hands-on exhibits for small children from ages 1-10. Outdoor spaces include an opportunity to climb into a giant hawk's nest, splash and play in naturalistic water features, bring out inner musicians, and get physical with rockets and giant levers. Indoor space consists of galleries, active beehive, imagination workshop, ant tunnel, climbing towers, etc. Bookstore with books and merchandise for purchase. Camp Shi'ini is a day camp based in Pasadena with pick up and drop off at your residence. Hours are from 8:30am to 4:30pm approximately. This is a day camp that emulates the feeling of a going away camp so that kids can really have that real camp taste while not being so far from home. It's the best of both worlds- no homesickness and kinship with their "cabins" aka tribes. The vans that come to pick up and drop off are very new, air conditioned, and clearly display the camp logo on the door; they are driven by alumni campers who are college bound counselors. They are polite, are great with kids, and have great affinity and loyalty to the camp. It's so much like a real camp the campers love coming back every year and growing up with their camp buddies. Lunches have to be packed by yourselves but the kids are so active during the day they will pretty much demolish whatever is packed. Also any power bars or snacks. We froze a bottled water every night before camp so that the water stayed chilled during the day. Weeks 1-4 they do a variety of activities such as canoeing, archery, horseback riding, and camp lore storytelling and enactment by the counselers. They begin each day with the Camp shi'ini cheer, hiking, camp activities, lunch outdoors, crafts with nice materials, swimming at the pool, playtime at a park, and end with a chapter of their camp lore stories that are dramatised with special effects including use of a drone. Outings include Sunset Beach day and a visit to Ghost Town. Week 5/ the final week of camp consists of olympics where the kids participate in relay type races and silly old fashioned kid fun such as wrapping up their counselor in cloth bandages like a mummy. They serve hot dogs and a variety of fruit drinks at the finale, marking a great end to the camp.

My son 'graduated' from Shi-ini in 2015, but he still receives cards and messages from the camp and will be applying to be a junior counselor this coming summer. My daughter is looking forward to continuing the adventure that began for her six years ago and is excited about it today as she was then.
