Ask the Community - Camp Adventurewood

Hello. Do you provide meals and snacks?

We do not provide lunch or snacks. Campers bring a packed lunch and snacks with them to camp, along with a refillable water bottle. We do provide plenty of cold water each day.

Hello! Where would the rendez vous point be for Palos Verdes? Thank you!

Hi Jennifer! Our closest rendezvous pickup location to Palos Verdes is Downtown Los Angeles near…

Will our children be able to stay over night or will we have to pick them up every day?

Camp Adventurewood is a day camp only, we do not offer any overnight stays. We do however offer door-to-door van service in 22 neighborhoods and cities.

I didn't see you pick up from Santa Clarita. Where would be the closest pick up point? How much would the 6 weeks be and do you do a sibling discount?

The van route rendezvous location we current offer which is closest to Santa Clarita would be in Sunland off the 210-Freeway at: 10455 Sunland Blvd., Sunland, CA 91040. Thanks.

Can you pick up from a home in Northridge?

Unfortunately Northridge is a bit outside our coverage area. Currently, our door-to-door van…

Hi there, You only offer 6weeks? Can't do week to week or 3 weeks camp? How far of distance will you…

Hi Jacky. Thanks for inquiring. The van can come directly to your home each AM and PM, if you…

Is there a discount if you have 2 kids going ? Also if you sign up and something changes what is the refund policy?

Hi Carrie. Thanks for inquiring. We don't offer sibling discounts unfortunately. And at this point in the enrollment period, all deposits are non-refundable. Please let us know if you have any other questions whatsoever. Thanks.

Is the rate different if we choose to drop off and pick up ourselves?

Hi Susan. Good question. The door-to-door van service is simply a free service we offer. Much like our Extended Care is also a free service we offer. There isn't a discount in price if a parent doesn't use them. Let me know if you have any…

Hello! Question- if my young child is not a strong swimmer, will he be exposed to deep water where there is a risk of drowning? Thank you!

Hi Maria. Thanks for asking. As of right now, it is looking like COVID-19 concerns will cause our swimming program to be replaced with Water-Balloon Battles. So no, there would not be any risk with deep water. (Even when we have swimming, the…

How many kids do you typically have in 12+ range?

Hi Claudia. Typically, there is a full group of twelve campers between ages 12-12¾; and another full group of twelve campers between ages 13-13¾. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!

Is it still open for enrollment and how much?

Hi Liza. Thanks for asking. Unfortunately, our Summer '21 Session is completely full ... with a lengthy waiting list. I'm not confident that most people on the waiting list will get in at this point, so I'd recommend one of the other…

What ages do you go up to? would you let 16 year olds in your camp?

We have campers ages 4 through 13. Thanks!

Our kids ages 2 to 7 all had a great time! There was so much to do, from walking through the river and doing water play, to sand play in the pretend lake, to crafts (that we didn't have time for), to climbing equipment, and building/engineering/physics activities. Plenty of things to do both indoor and outdoor. The physics section is great for older kids too, even middle school (but the rest of the museum is definitely geared to elementary).

Outside, there are two adjacent outdoor kid's playgrounds. Near the entrance they have juice and fruit vendors and a balloonist. Entry fee is very reasonable at under $50 for family of three with in-and-out privileges. Inside the museum, its like 80% outdoor exhibits and 20% indoor. They have an onsite cafe and food vendors throughout. The outdoor exhibits has a park area dedicated to physics. You'll see fans, pulleys, etc. to help your child appreciate scientific concepts while having fun. They also have tie-dye stations, climbing structures, tricycle race tracks, live music, and my son's favorites - the sandbox and pretend farmer's market and veggie patch. I noted lots of friendly staff dressed as camp rangers working with the kids and maintaining order with a smile, which is huge. Inside the buildings, you'll see traditional kid activities like toy trains, quiet reading areas, legos, and even more climbing structures. Looking forward to coming back next time we're in the area. The in-and-out policy is nice since they have lots of nearby offsite restaurants in nearby Old Pasadena.

And every time he's gone it's been a 9 or a 10, depending on the friends he meets. The camp has friendly staff and fun activities. Thank you to everyone who works there. He finished summer camp and I put him in Winter Camp for 1 day this year (Friday, 29th). When I picked him up that day I realized it was the last day of winter camp. Unfortunately, the dates I need for my son to be in camp are the first week of Jan. rather than the week of Christmas, since he's off both weeks. I think their schedule is different than my sons school, which is understandable. Either way, it's a great camp and he will be returning in the summer.

My 9-year-old LOVED the winter camp. Highlights were the sewing room (why don't all camps have…read morethis??), the super nice counselors, and the freedom to choose activities. It's a great place for kids who prefer things like video production, animation, and gaming instead of the usual athletic camp activities. It was also super easy to sign up online, it was affordable, and I felt very safe leaving my kid in their care. My ONLY complaint is that they haven't aligned their winter camp dates with the local elementary school vacation schedules. I realize it's likely an issue of location (the camp is held at a school on a different academic calendar), but this is such a great program, it would be life changing to have it available for us working parents of creative/indoor kids throughout the first week of January, too. Either way, we're looking forward to coming back soon.

There was one room called "The Dungeon" (at least by the kids) that had air conditioning for the end of the day. Unfortunately, the place decided to have the windows changed during my kid's week at camp. So, Tuesday there was no respite from the grueling 94-96 degree heat. They were supposed to build a go kart. One with no brakes. So what good is it for going down a hill? On Tuesday they learned a camper and counselor from the previous week, who was interacting with this week's counselors, tested positive for Covid. Cut to Wednesday morning. The camp had no contact with the parents to let them know of the potential danger. The gates were not open at opening time. There was no one anywhere to inform parents. Some parents dumped their kids and took off, assuming they'd be taken care of. Turned out they decided to cancel the camp on Wednesday. At this point they should have given a full refund to all the parents. No one was gonna finish their builds with one of five days lost. Then they cancelled Thursday. But, they actually were hoping to get our money for Friday. Luckily the counselors were so freaked out they wouldn't come back. Can you imagine building something that takes 5 days in 3? They didn't care about the kids or their staff. They cared about the money. They kept all the money for Monday and Tuesday. We got nothing for that money except daycare we didn't need. They didn't even think to give the barely built go karts to the families with instructions, so they could finish them. Stay away. Stay far away! I don't know why there are shots of kids under trees, escaping the heat. There are no trees at this location. Just concrete and heat and sun blasting back up off the burning hot cement.

Fast forward to today.. he feels so safe and at home - he is definitely thriving! Fraser has a very strong personality, and we love how patient the staff is and how the Montessori way allows him to channel it positively. We absolutely adore his teachers (Ms. Nhi, Ms. Veronica, Ms. Wen, and Ms. Cat) + a special shout-out to Ms. M, who spoils him with so much love! What really stands out is that all the teachers at the school seem genuinely happy and know Fraser personally. The director, Ms. Prima, is super on top of everything and fosters a great relationship with all the families and staff. I truly appreciate the extra thought and care she puts into the school. If you want a place where your child will be safe, known, and nurtured, we highly recommend this amazing team!

Even though my child is in the English program, he also takes Chinese and Spanish classes. Friends of mine from other cities and states often see the school activities I share/post and tell me how envious they are that we have access to such an amazing preschool. My child has learned so much here, especially in STEM-related subjects. His life skills, independence, and hands-on abilities have improved tremendously. The school also provides a wide variety of enriching activities, including science fairs, carnivals, puppet shows, bubble shows, and animal petting events where the children can ride ponies and interact with rabbits and other animals. The school also hosts special Mother's Day and Father's Day breakfast events that make families feel very involved and welcomed. Every year, the winter and spring performances are what I look forward to the most. It is truly impressive to see a group of 4-year-olds confidently perform three English songs, one Chinese song, one Spanish song, and even a dance routine on stage. The children always look so confident and joyful. This year, my child will be graduating, and I am incredibly grateful to Ms. Joanna and Ms. Regina. They are warm, energetic, patient, and genuinely caring teachers. The classroom environment they create is loving and harmonious, and the children are kind and supportive toward one another. We will always appreciate the wonderful experience our child had here.
