Another of the three best hamburgers in town. This place is so good people fly here for the food. Literally! I have to admit that I only eat the cheese burger. My husband ventures to other menu items and loves them all. It is hard to get their chicken fried steak as most times it is sold out. We enjoyed our visit to this small business in Angelina county airport. I was very reluctant to stay once we entered because we stood out like sore thumbs--it was clear we were out of towners! But we quickly relaxed after being greeted and served professionally. We planned for breakfast, but arrived too late. All things work together for good to them that love the Lord! We ordered the best burgers I've tasted in a long time. The tea was sweet deliciousness and we left full and satisfied. The menu is limited, but sufficient and affordable. The space is kinda small, but it wasn't a long wait for anyone when we visited. I love that all tips are left in a jar and shared amongst staff. A rare treasure to find an airport cafe still in operation today. Easy access off the main highway. My husband who is a plane enthusiast, mechanic and pilot and I thoroughly enjoyed our hand-crafted fresh grilled hamburgers! These things are HUGE! The staff is friendly and really on top of things here! Service is fast. It is clean with a great view of the tarmac. The watercolor art in the hallway is AMAZING. He actually recognized a plane he worked on in Dallas several years ago so we had to take a photo. read more

Place is actually famous for their burgers and fries. Military flights often stop "to refuel" so they can eat there. Tasty burgers and fries. Haven't tried anything else. That's about all I've got to say about it. Was sweet and short but yelp requires I meet some length requirement. It is actually at the Airport terminal which connects to US Hwy 59, soon to be I-69, just north of Diboll. Btw, NEVERRrrr speed through Diboll! They patrol constantly to ticket every vehicle they can. Corrigan as well which is about 15 miles further south. I seem to have satisfied the Al gore rhythm so y'all take care now, ya hear? read more

4.5 Stars! On a flight from Houston to Jefferson Texas I decided to stop at The Airport Cafe at Angelina County Airport just south of Lufkin. At the time I was taking my wife and mother to a family reunion. I was encountering light to moderate chop and could see in the faces of my 2 passengers that a stop would be appreciated. I am so grateful for the turbulence because I had one of the best cheeseburgers in my life. A true old fashioned cheeseburger that came with fries in a basket...juicy and well cooked! My friend and I flew into Lufkin today from College Station to try the restaurant there...what a pleasant surprise! We had sweet potato tots and fries, and an order of regular tots, followed by a couple of half pound cheeseburgers! Everything was cooked exactly right: tots and fries were light and crispy (which is hard to do with sweet potatoes) and the burgers were just right, topped with the works on soft buns. A bag of chips came with each burger but was hardly necessary as we were both stuffed! The wait staff was friendly and attentive, and we visited with some other diners, a few who lived nearby and drove over and others who flew in. To top off the great experience, the price was very affordable, about $20 total. Highly recommended! P.S. If you ever want a watercolor sketch painting of you aircraft, ask at the diner or FBO for Lynn. Samples of her work are on display. They'd make a great holiday gift for the airplane owner or enthusiast on your list. I spoke with her over lunch and commissioned an aircraft painting for me! read more

If you're traveling on 59 and looking for a place to stop for lunch, this little hideaway is just 5 minutes outside the hustle and bustle of Lufkin. It has a short scenic drive, and you can view some of the historical photographs in the lobby. Although I've not been to other county airports, I've been told this airport is one of the nicer county airports you'll find. If that isn't enough to entice you, the food should be. It's only a diner, but (as another reviewer said) "it does the diner thing great." I like to order the cheeseburger, but their other menu items look delicious as well (I'm thinking of trying the BLT next time). What's great about the burger though is that it's not too big and not too greasy. Also, my father and I like to order different sides (i.e. onion rings and fries) so we can share in the fried goodness. I think the only downside of this cafe is its relatively small size, so it has the potential to get a little crowded. I haven't had this problem yet, but I like to get there about 11:45am just in case. Personally, I find this cafe a relaxing stop that satisfies both my appetite and my curiosity in the local treasures. You may just be passing through on a simple business trip, but why not eat somewhere a little adventurous? read more

Food, as far as burgers go, is top notch, which makes sense if you're familiar with the concept of the $100 hamburger (if not, look it up). We flew in to try out the cafe and burn some avgas. Good thing we were able to beat the lunch crowd. The service was great, the food even better. The cheese burger was worth the flight. Friendly management and obviously popular with the locals, as the people started to line up for seating. Young families with kids watching the air traffic on a beautiful day. Very satisfying. I rode in from Houston just to try the burgers. The Cheeseburger was fresh and just a little charred so it was full of flavor. A half order of Fries and Onion Rings topped off with a glass of Texas Sweet Tea! Outstanding! Unfortunately I didn't have room for Peach Cobbler or Banana Pudding. It was a sunny winter day in TX so the weather was perfect and the drive up 59 to the Piney Woods is pretty any time of the year. I never would have guessed that the Angelina County Airport had such a great little cafe tucked inside. We have driven past dozens of times, always admiring the beautiful tree lined driveway. The cafe is relatively clean, just a little dated. My water glass did smell sour, kind of like it went through the dishwasher then was stuck in a stack of cups for a while (if that makes sense..) The staff quickly bussed departing tables. There was actually a decent crowd on a weekday around noon. It seemed like a lot of them were regulars. The menu is much bigger than I expected: burgers, a patty melt, chicken fried steak sandwiches, BLTs and more. There are plenty of sides to choose from as well: chips, fries, sweet potato fries, tator tots, sweet potato tator tots, etc. All are reasonably priced. You can expect to spend less than $10 a person. We paid about $16 for a burger, patty melt, 2 sides and 1 drink. I ordered a junior cheeseburger with sweet potato tator tots. I love that you can get a smaller portion size burger. It was still plenty big! They are cooked medium well and are topped with the thickest slice of tomato I've ever seen, plus lettuce and pickles. They're definitely messy!! The burger was pretty greasy, but not alarmingly so. I received sweet potato fries instead of tots, which was fine since I like both. The fries were actually awesome and I would get them again. Once you finish, you pay at the front. We weren't in any rush, so we enjoyed watching the planes take off and land. There are huge windows along the back wall facing all the action. It would be neat to offer outside dining, but I'm not sure how loud that would be. Seems like a handful of other airport diners have done this (I'm thinking Brenham). This is a great lunch joint along highway 59! Stop if you have a little time to spare! read more

We eat breakfast at the airport 2-3 times a week. Love the friendly and caring staff and our food is always just right. We don't ten venture out at lunch, but today was an exception. Once crowned the best hamburger in Angelina County, establishments open and still can't claim what this place has earned. Taking a trip to an era when someone actually wanted to serve you with food worth serving. I can see why one would hold this place in regard when looking for something to eat. Flew into the airport just outside of Lufkin today just for the food. This establishment is probably the best food joint in all of Lufkin. It doesn't matter what you order because it is all good. Get there early since it is on the small side. If not there early, no worries because there are always airplanes coming in and out.
