They ADD tips. I went to rays on 3/23/26 and they double charged me for a burger. I wasn't going to say anything and was going to consider that their tip. So I marked out no tip and wrote the correct total. Later that night my card updated the charge where they charged me for a tip. I called and spoke with Elaine. She told me to F off and sell my story somewhere else. So elane. Now rays is under investigation by the texas attorney general. Good luck. I thought it was going to be good but it fell short. I walked in and the place looked super cute but the staff was very rude and unfriendly, not a single smile the whole time. I got the chili cheese burger and it was just a mess and honestly had no flavor. It was so bad that I just put ketchup on it to have some sort of taste. I've been going to Rays since I was a kid. The food is still amazing. The burgers and onion rings are our favorites.

Was passing through Lufkin antiquing with my wife and the lady at the store recommended Ray's drive-in. it was a great all American hamburger joint. The people were friendly. The place was packed. I'm so stuck I wanted to love this place!!! Everyone in town talks about rays! When we got there and pulled up someone came right out but no menus or anything! Thankful I looked it up online before hand. For it being old school the prices were a little high. For two people it was $32. The fry's were ok didn't come out hot and fresh. The burgers were ok as well didn't seem to have any seasoning. The best part was the mayonnaise I'm not sure if it was fresh but it was delicious and sweet. When I finished they never came for the tray, we waited and flashed our lights. So I drove to the door then they asked if I paid I said yes I finished and wanted to leave and nobody came. Stopped here for dinner on our roadtrip to Arkansas from Houston.... A super cute drive-in concept but also have a drive through or inside dining.... Got the chili cheese dog, it was solid6.5/10... My husband got the bacon cheeseburger and that was DELICIOUS!! The french fries are amazing as well perfectly crisp on the outside, mashed potatoe-y on the inside We also got the chocolate frosty, OMG... dip the fries in, you won't be sorry!!!! A good place which could have been great. The burger itself was good. They asked me if I wanted mustard and mayo...I said just mayo..what did I get? Both. The onion rings were undercooked, the food took forever. They claimed it was because of the onion rings. Took they nearly 20 min to get a burger, potato and onion rings ready...and of course underdone and with the wrong condiments. I really wanted to like this place. Ray's was recommended to us, and it did not disappoint! This local restaurant offers flavors that are clearly a step above any chain. They make burgers the way they should be made. We ordered the cheeseburger with fries and onion rings -- everything was delicious. The carhop was super friendly and efficient, which made the experience even better. What can you say when this place has been here more than 60 years. Yes they still have car hops! Susan is the best! The only thing that I can say bad was when the car hop dumped our drinks in our lap in our 55' Chevy in 1970! So now that we are 73, we can't pass up a Ray's Special hamburger, a trout basket or those homemade onion rings. ( They are not those frozen pre-battered ugh rings). The food is always amazing and fresh!!! One time my burger was missing the bacon and I didn't want to say anything because it wasn't a big deal and the waitress, Susan, was busting her butt in the heat outside. Well I realized I was given the totally wrong burger so I wanted to let her know so they didn't give somebody else the wrong burger as well. I took maybe 4 or 5 bites before I realized it was the wrong burger and it was probably about half gone and she insisted on getting me a new one. So nice of her! Grew up in Lufkin, I've ate Rays specials since I was a child. Came back into town to visit family. Stopped at Rays and went in to the sat down Restaurant area. Upon arrival and entering the seating area and the order register. I noticed how dirty the restaurant was, after ordering my Cheese burger and onion rings and drink with (tip) $28 Every single table in the restaurant was filthy, the floor was filthy The same two you d ladies at the register were still standing in the same place talking when I asked for a table to be wiped so I could eat. One of the ladies came with a rag and I told her that the entire restaurant was VERY DIRTY, I made it know that in my opinion NO one should be standing and talking She wiped at the tables (not the floor) I did get the stink eye the remaining of my time inside the restaurant. The Burger was decent but the onion rings were undercooked I will not be back to Rays again. I will hold the fond memories from my childhood and consider the restaurant closed in my mind read more

Travelers beware. Stopped here for lunch with my girlfriend on a trip through Lufkin. I looked at local restaurants with good reviews and Rays was one of them. Rays has a really nice style. Classic Americana interior and a nice patio out front. You can also drive up and go inside to order and they'll bring it out to you. We opted to sit inside and eat. I ordered the rays special and my girlfriend got the shrimp basket. The burger was nothing special. It was very big but for the $11 price point it better had been. My girlfriend enjoyed her shrimp (around $15. Girlfriend says it tasted like a $10 value) but also said that it wasn't very flavorful. The tater tots and fries were about average. Crispy, I'll give them that. The service was normal. Walk up and order and then they call out your name over a speaker system. The employees did not come off as friendly even when I tried to be nice. All said and done for two mains, one side, and one soft drink it was around $33. There is a sonic and whataburger across the street so you'd be able to get comparable food for less than what you'd pay at Rays. I'd give the food a 3/5, service 2/5, ambiance 4/5, price 2/5. read more

Came in with BIG appetites after a gymnastics meet. It did take a bit to get our food, but it was all fresh when we got it. I got the Western burger, and it was big and delicious. Every one else liked their burgers, too. The reason it got 4 stars instead of 5 was the onion rings. They look like they'd be amazing, but were actually very bland. Crisp and fresh, but they definitely could use some salt and seasoning. Also, the "Adult Slushies" were kind of a miss. I guess I was expecting more of a blended drink, but they were more like chunky shaved ice. Not sure about how strong they were because I ended up taking only one Sip and giving it to my husband. I'd definitely come back for the burgers next time we are in town, but I'll probably stick to fries and an iced tea with it next time. read more

We were in Lufkin with some friends and decided to give Ray's a try since it is known as a locals favorite. It is a cute, clean, casual, 50's themed restaurant that also offers drive-in service, like Sonic. The menu is uncomplicated and you walk up to the counter to place your order. I ordered the Cheeseburger with the regular size patty and it was decent, but the menu states that it comes with mayo and it definitely wasn't mayo. It was Miracle Whip (or some other brand of salad-dressing-mayo-substitute-from-hell) which I can't stand because I don't want a sweet burger, yuck. I promptly went to the counter and got some sliced jalapenos. That and some extra salt rescued my burger. Next time I would definitely say hold the "mayo." BTW, my friend ordered the double meat junior and her burger was more than twice the size of mine! I wish I'd gotten a pic if that, it was impressive. My husband ordered the trout basket which was pathetic looking. He said it wasn't very good and definitely not something he would ever order again. He also ordered onion rings which were bland, they were flour coated and lacked seasoning. I don't know if there will ever be a return visit. read more
