I have used the eye center for more than two decades for both contacts and glasses. I will never use them again. The business practices seem very outdated, overpriced, inconvenient, and slow. There also seems to be some kind of conflict of interest or incentive for doctors to have their patients do business with the sales part of the eye center. This breaks my heart for the elderly or those on fixed incomes who don't know there are cheaper, faster, and very reliable places to get glasses. They seem low on resources and seem to want to hide the fact that you can take your prescription elsewhere to get faster, more reliable service. In summary, the doctor did not listen to me when I told him what worked for me (contacts), nor did he hand me my paper prescriptions (glasses nor contacts) at the time of the exam which is required by law. He also wrote a prescription for exceptionally small contacts which caused me to have to replace them more frequently and buy eye drops. (Most people wear a larger size, and so do I. Long story, but the summary is, I feel like it was a deliberate attempt to prevent me from taking my refills elsewhere because the law is written that a doctor can refuse to release a contacts prescription if he feels he needs to monitor the patient. If he creates the problem by prescribing tight lenses causing "tight lens syndrome," the business stays at the center while he "monitors" the situation and sells replacement lenses and eye drops to the patient on a more frequent basis. I had to go another route to get the larger lenses that fit, and I have no problems, don't ever need drops, and wear the lenses longer between refills.) The staff were sometimes professional, sometimes not. It took more than nine weeks to get a single vision pair of glasses due to poor handling, bad fitting, and a slow service process. In the end, I did not get the glasses I paid nearly $500 for because in the fitting, my expensive light lenses were scratched, and they replaced them with thicker, heavier lenses without refunding me the difference (hundreds per lens). I do not know the root cause of all the problems, whether it's the doctor, the eye center policies, or a combination. I believe it is the Center's policies and procedures which are outdated and not working. My experiences were terrible. Some of the staff are excellent, warm, and friendly. However, that can't make up for the loss of time and money I experienced. I will never go back there. read more

I have been using Angelina Eye Center for over a decade. Until recently, I have had no serious complaints about the quality of product or service. However, on June 1, I went in for an exam. As I had anticipated, my prescription had changed. I ordered a new pair of glasses with all of the special coatings and modifications that make glasses easier for me to use. They were not inexpensive. I was told that they would be ready to pick up in seven to ten days. On June 21, while I was reading fine print with the help of a magnifying glass, it occured to me that me glasses should be ready. I thought that perhaps AEC had called and my husband had forgotten to forward the information. So I called to see if I could pick them up, only to find that they were far from ready. They were not even ground yet. I was told that there was confusion with my insurance. I wondered aloud, if there was a problem with my insurance, why wasn't I notified so that I could talk to the insurance company. I am a customer of theirs, as well. I was then told that it was a mistake in communication and that I could expect to have my glasses by June 27. On June 26 I received another call informing that my glasses would not be done by June 27. I finally got my glasses June 28, twenty-seven days after they were ordered. As I went to pick them up, I was told to sign in at the pick up desk. I stood in line to do so. I was then told to make myself comfortable. I did for ten minutes. When I was called back for fitting, I was again told to make myself comfortable. I did for another five minutes. I now have my new glasses and I'm sure they are very fine glasses, but I have to get used to a new frame and prescription. To be fair, it was not an easy prescription, and Amber, the representative that I spoke with over the phone, was apologetic. But it is not good to have to wait twenty-seven days for a pair of glasses, and I have a nasty feeling that if I hadn't called, I would still be waiting. I will investigate other options when it is time to replace them. read more

Horrible -- I will not go back. My review is based on over eight visits in five years including fitting, repair/refitting, exams, follow-ups, and urgent eye care. I only kept going there because I can't believe what I experienced every time was normal. I'm done. It's the norm there. (I hope I read my own review when it comes time to have my eyes examined. If I go back, I need my head examined. It was that bad.) *Too expensive. *Rude optometrist and several staff members (only takes a couple). *Long wait times with or without an appointment. *Does not readily give prescription so you can have it filled where you wish. I was treated very badly by the doctor I saw. I don't want to personally attack him, but the Center needs to understand that when they have bad representatives of their business, the business will suffer. (There is no way they don't know who it is. This guy was obviously and overtly dismissive with terrible communication which felt like a lack of genuine concern for me. The phrase to describe him would be "total a**", a real jerk.) I will not go back. I will be telling everyone I know not to do business there. I will have to see another eye doctor to get my issue resolved. read more

Angelina eye center has been a huge help! Me and my family just lost our home to a fire and we lost everything. Just before this happened I had gotten a 1 year supply of daily contacts and a new pair of glasses and they were inside of the house when it burned down. The day after this happened, we contacted Dr. Kaleb and he was able to get me a new set of contacts and a new pair of glasses. They were also able to help give us the contacts and the glasses at a discounted price! Angelina eye center is absolutely the best choice for any kind of eye care need! We needed an immediate exam for an injury to my wife's left eye when she fell two nights ago while traveling in Brady, Texas. The staff at Angelina were extremely helpful in getting us in and even moved the appointment up earlier. Christy on the phone and Dr. Aron Hughes were exceptional. The Eye Center is impressive in their space, services and staff. First class all the way with personal care. We are from San Diego yet were treated as locals. I have used the services of Angelina Eye Center since I moved to Lufkin 10 years ago. The staff is friendly, courteous, and professional, from check-in to the techs to the doctors, and including the staff in the eyeglass center. The only time I waited an inordinate time for my appointment was because of an emergency situation with a patient who came in with broken glass in his eyes, and that is understandable.
