We stopped here for lunch on the way to El Yueque. We got a few lbs of pork and blood sausage to share. The pork is tender and flavorful overall, the rice and beans are well seasoned too, but the side bananas could be skipped. The staff chopped up the pork outside right in front of us which was fun to watch. We sat indoors and it wasn't too packed but if it didn't rain the outdoor seating could be a vibe. Angelito's Place is a good option for lechón that's near San Juan. It's about a 30-minute drive from San Juan, could be less depending on where you are staying. On the way you'll see the Carraizo Damn and Lake, responsible for San Juan's drinking water. You can kayak and fish on the lake. The restaurant has parking parking spaces across the street. Indoor and outdoor seating. No waiter service. You order at the counter and sit where you like. There is a full bar inside. Service was quick and friendly. Affordable prices. Lechón was tasty. I would recommend arriving early, the earlier the better and fresher pork you'll get. The arroz con gandules was excellent. read more

Amazing food must try when visiting the island. Lechon is delicious boniatos are amazing and the Arroz is great.

I wish the proprietor would claim this site, I hope this review encourages others to visit! Do yourself a favor and Uber or drive to this restaurant for an authentic taste of island food! Such a great experience and food was amazing. While we visited late in the afternoon, the pork was still moist and packed with flavor. I commented to my wife that the rice & beans were the tastiest I've ever had. The blood sausage was also very flavorful! Employees don't speak much English, but I believe they appreciated our happiness with their food and even got a selfie with the butcher! read more

I have been looking for some good lechon and arroz con gandules. This place was off the beaten path it was a scary drive if you're not from the area. But when we got there we were greeted by the smell of food. We ordered a pound of lechon and while they were cutting it they gave us a piece of cueroto for us to try it. Yum!!! We ordered a side of arroz con gandules which were really flavorful. And pasteles. Everything was very good. The pasteles were a little bland but they were good. I would definitely recommend this place. The staff was really nice starting with the butcher and bartender cashier guy. It was a bit pricey but I don't mind it when the portions are big and the food is delicious.. can't wait to visit again. read more

I'm by no means a lechon afficionado, but have had a decent share. It seriously tastes just like the Phillipino lechon that I have had at the family parties that I have attended. I was taken hare by a local who suggested that this is one of the best places in town. I went HAM and got a TON of food for 4 adults, including 1.5 pounds of lechon, 2 rice containers, a potato (or yam) and we finished it with maybe 2 cups of food left. The crispy pork skin is fat heaven in your mouth. The meat was tender, juicy, and well seasoned. I suggest you call before you go, as sometimes they run out of lechon. The best lechón. Succulent, flavorful, juicy. Made on the spot. It's no surprise this place is so popular! Full bar. Quick & friendly bartender. There can be long lines especially on holidays but the service is incredibly fast even at the most busy times. Consistency is a sign of a well run establishment. I've come here over the course of 3 years and the quality has been consistently high over that period of time. This is a restaurant that knows what it is doing and executes it excellently. Have been a customer for many years without issues. However during my last 3-4 visits noticed a less than cordial customer service by the butcher and other associates. Prices have gone really high too. It is likely that the butcher decides which piece he'll serve regardless of time of day. He'll tell you they don't have the piece you ordered. If you like to be treated cordially, mind about prices, and like to order your parts, this is not the place for you. There's another lechonera closed by "La Casita de David." recommended. Is reasonably priced, lechón with excellent taste, excellent service and they serve the pieces you like. read more

The lechón is sold by the pound. The rice is sold by containers. I think 16 oz? There is a bar in the inside which is always a plus. I ordered cranberry and vodka just because I didn't feel like asking for recommendations. The drink was $7 and it was super strong. Inside they have tables and the food was really good. One of the best Lechon places i've had in PR. it's definitely off the beaten path, but the path makes the journey fun! I ordered a plate of lechon with rice and beans and it came with a side of sweet potatoes, all for about $13, pretty hefty but i couldn't eat it in one siting. There's a nice covered patio for you to sit outside or large AC dining area inside. They take card and feed the bones to the dogs :-). Remember to hit your meat up with some spiced vinegar from the big whiskey bottle thats on the counter when you pay! read more

This was worth the drive into the freaking mountains and forest. We went here on our last day in Puerto Rico on recommendation from a local vendor who explained that this area in PR was THE place to go for real lechon. The lechon was tender and rich and the skin was incredibly crispy adding this excellent contrasting texture. The rice with pigeon peas that we chose as our side dish was so flavorful and added a good balance to the salty pork. We tried the blood sausage (morcilla) also and that was intensely flavored as well. The kind of cooking we were looking for all over the island, we found in this mountain side lechonera. Finally got a taste of the Puerto Rican signature dish - lechon! Aka whole roast pig. Tried a little bit of everything, recommended by their only guy that speaks English. The lechon is fully flavored, with crispy skin. Blood sausage, rice and beans, sweet potatoes, and the thing wrapped in a leaf... Everything tastes good! I love this place and their food. They have the best Puerto Rican roasted pig, so flavorful, you would want more and more. You may accompany your roasted pig, with, rice with pigeon peas, baked sweet potato or boiled green bananas, among other side dishes. Don't forget to try the typical Puerto Rican pastel, a nice blend of roots filled with either meat or chicken rolled up in a banana leaf and boiled until fully cooked. This is without a doubt the best lechonera in Puerto Rico. I used to drive all the way to Guavate to get good roast pork and morcillas. That is not the case anymore. Now, within 45 minutes of landing in San Juan, we are at Angelito's place enjoying the best cuisine the Island has to offer. If you like Puerto Rican food, you have to try his roast pork and morcillas. As a matter of fact, Angelito's Place is my firts stop and my last. For the last 4 years on my way to the airport, I stop by Angelito's place to buy some morcilla to bring home. I wish he had franchise near my home. read more
