You can clearly see the reviews are absolutely horrible and I should have listened to my therapist after complaining that they didnt bill my insurance properly. I suddenly received a bill I had already paid in the mail. I called to find out that they were charging me for that bill again bc there were two bills that they never got paid from insurance and did some weird issue on their end in the system which sounded very strange to me. My therapist agreed and said I should not pay but I said no maybe it was the insurance (although now I really believe they charged me for an appointment I never had). I followed up with them several times to get the bill straightened out and paid it in full. Finally a few weeks later I get notification that my script will not be renewed. So I call in and they tell me they will not fill it because I never called to set up an appointment. I said the last time I spoke to the doctor (the third one since starting to go here last summer) that he never followed up with me to make an appointment. They told me they called back in September and left a message. It is July. I settled the payment issue from Jan/Feb until April-june and during all of those conversations I was not told about rescheduling an appointment and I never received a voicemail back in September. They proceeded to tell me it's my fault. Im sorry but every appointment I have every needed to make with a Healthcare provider has been done with multiple follow ups if I don't get back toght away including texts, emails and follow up calls. I have no idea how they expect to operate with such bad administrative accountability and then instead of apologizing about not following up on setting appointments they blame the patient. The first part of this review is a little rantish, your results may vary. The second part is pure facts. Avoid Dr Jocelyn Lahaye if you can. She refuses to put a picture of herself on their website angellstreetpsychiatry.com. Once you meet her, you will have zero doubt as to why. She does not return patient calls. I called and asked for a call back so I could prepare her for my questions during my appointment with her (the office said she calls patients back between appointments and at the end of the day), heard nothing for a week and I called again, only to be told she didn't need to speak with me and that she will not be calling me back. When I got to the appointment she was unprepared for my questions. If you ask for some sort of estimation of a return call, the staff can't give you any time frame. Dr. Kroessler owns and operates Angell street psychiatry. When it comes to treatment, he will only do things in the best interest of his company. Also, dealing with him is like dealing with Bill Lumbergh from office space. Kroessler should be avoided as well. He has taken payment in the form of meals from drug companies, so keep that in mind as well. The rest is general information about the practice and about the Providence location. Intake appointments are only 30 minutes. If you have a lot of things to discuss on your initial appointment, plan on only getting through a small amount. The 30 minute window is not changeable. If you miss your intake appointment, you will not be given another. Future visits are 15 minutes. These are a little more flexible in time. A visit can be from 5-25 minutes. This depends on the doctor. The staff at the Providence location is almost entirely new. The previous staff left for various reasons, but most of them left to have babies from what I am told. The doctors are like employees and have less flexibility than a doctor with a private practice. The room where patient records are stored in the basement is fully visible from outside of the building. Security does not seem to be a high priority. If you want to be treated for ADHD, they will only prescribe meds if you have a diagnosis from psychological associates of Warwick or the ADHD center of New England. I am not 100% sure but I believe it has to be a diagnosis within the past 10 years. They do accept credit cards, so payment is easy if you forget to bring cash. Multiple locations are available. A Johnston location just opened. Some of the doctors share an office, and the setting is not intimate or inviting. You will either be half the room away from the doctor, or sitting in a chair with a desk between you and the doctor. ( Picture sitting at a bank trying to get a loan, but in a less comfy chair ) The parking situation is bad in Providence. Very little parking behind the building. There are a few parking spaces that they allow double parking. You can't read the sign that states this when you park. It is on the side of the building, not the back where you park. So be careful not to get boxed in. Emergency appointments are extremely rare. Don't expect to get much help between appointments if you have Lahaye or Kroessler. read more

TERRIBLE PRACTICE!!!!! When dealing with mental health you think there would be some sensitivity. NONE - lady that answers the phone is short and rude and seemingly unwilling to help. When I became short with her I was hung up on and told they would call the cops on us for "threatening " her - nope was just trying to refill a prescription with very little help from her. Eventually dr. Zambenedetti called us back after four days and filled the anxiety meds but we were told never to call back. I guess he hasn't read the reviews about his practice and his secretaries phone etiquette. Will call the doctor who referred them to let them know of the mistake they had made in the referral . Positive experience with both Dr Kroessler and Clinician Ed. at the Johnston office. Dr Kroessler didn't take things at face value. 1st doctor to start at beginning with fresh eyes and approach. I was hoping to connect with a therapist and my PCP made a referral for Angell Street Psychiatry. I was a little disappointed to learn that they only offer over the phone therapy sessions, but given the difficulty in finding available counselors and/or long wait times in the current landscape of our world I decided to give it a go. It's possible that my experience would have been better in-person or even via Zoom, but since that wasn't an option I can't really say. I do find it concerning that we live in a world where therapy without embodied relational connection (attention to body language, facial expression, face to face connection) is still considered therapy. I think a good therapist that understands trauma work might be concerned about the deficits in this, too. This medium might work for some, but I do not recommend for anyone trying to work through relational trauma, especially early relational trauma. read more

Dr Kroessler almost killed me. I was very up front with the meds that had worked for me for 10 years and which ones I was allergic to, he prescribed one in the same family as one that I had had many issues with years before. When I called the office and told them what had happened and that I needed to speak with him I was told he would get back to me. 4 days later, still no call so I called back and was told to stop taking it - I already had. I went in the next week and his response was "Isn't the goal to get off medications?" Not when you have a life long condition like Bipolar disorder it isn't! He wouldn't even consider putting me back on the protocol that had kept me stable for year and istead wanted me to go on Lithium! With all the newer and better options available, he wanted to go with one that is known to have terrible long term physical effects on the body. Stay far, far away from this man. read more

The doctors do not listen to you and make decisions without your knowledge. Because of their incompetence I have landed in the ER twice. Tried to reach the doctor today and he refused to call me back. Instead he had the secretary tell me to go back to my other doctors. I've held off on posting this review for a while... but enough's enough. I've been coming here for years now, I've never really happy been happy with it but it's conveniently close to home and I don't like to drive, so I tolerated some abuse for the convenience factor. Over the years I have been given attitudes time & again... including just today. They recently gave me trouble for being as little as five minutes late. 2 days later, I'm 10 minutes early and they expect me to wait TWENTY-FIVE minutes past my scheduled appointment because they're running late. They didn't even have the courtesy to warn me the wait would be so long today. I had to ask for myself at the front desk. They should have at least apologized for the inconvenience, but no. they value their own time & don't care much for yours. I pointed out to the receptionist that they've recently given me considerable trouble for being just 5 minutes late... so I asked them to make a note of this occasion, right now, where they're running late & expecting me to wait 25 (minutes). I have never worked with a more unprofessional psychiatrist than Dr. Kroessler. For every appointment, he was 20-30 minutes late. One time he was 40 minutes late. He also rushed all of our appointments. One appointment was a little over 3 minutes long. He never made me feel like he cared about me or my treatment and I always left our sessions feeling like he was not listening to me. Dr. Z was my sons psych for about 2 years. He was always hard to understand, and thought it was just his demeaned that he was a no nonsense kind of guy. Boy was I wrong! He is an uncaring heartless creep and just completely railroaded us out of his office all the while name bashing the agency that referred us to him in the first place. Hopefully after I let them know how he just handled my son they will think twice about referrals again! Don't go here! Please! This is a terrible practice...go to Dr Solberg on the West side she is excellent. I used to go to her before when she was a part of this practice. Had to have Lahey while Dr.solberg was pregnant - omg what a terrible Dr lol. The office and billing staff is also so rude and inconsiderate. I was told I would have a $0 co-pay as my ins card says but was billed for 4 copays months later. When I called and complained I said to the billing lady " what should I do?" And she goes "well when I have a bill typically I pay it" then said she would send it to collections. I understand co pays but I would not have gone to that office if I knew they weren't going to follow what it said on my insurance card. read more

I called the office to make a new patient appointment today and the first question I was asked was about my health insurance. Yes, I have insurance and yes, the office accepts in. The second question they asked was my name. Then they told me I had apparently scheduled a new patient appointment back in 2009 and had missed that appointment therefore they refused to see me as a patient now, in 2013. Wow, I've had both parents pass away in 6 months, given birth to a baby that spent 2 weeks in the NICU and am completely stressed out but don't bother being concerned for my mental state of which the office did not bother to ask. Amazing. Our experience with this practice mirrors that of all these patients. Zero communication skills, spends less than 10 minutes/patient, ignores requests for Rx refills -- even those with withdrawal dangers, wait times of an hour or more, the administrative staff have chips on their shoulders, poor billing practices. If this practice was a used car lot, they would have been shut down by the state. Why go into psychiatry if you clearly hold people in such obvious contempt? The office staff is terrible! My dr is amazing however there is poor communication between patients and office staff it is COMPLETELY inappropriate to not inform patients of any policy changes. I work in the medical field and the qualifications for meaningful use is being highly violated and neglecting to inform your patient AT THE TIME of visit whether or not your insurance is accepted by the facility is extremely unethical. The office manager didn't even do anything to try and rectify the issue. If i could give negative stars, I would give them a NEGATIVE 5! I was on anti-anxiety meds and sleeping pills. I had to change practices because of my insurance. Dr. Kroessler, the Director, WILL NOT, continue the same meds. i was on. Now I am anxious and cannot sleep well. I don't know why this has happened. He will prescribe anything else but not the drugs that were helping me for years. All the meds he has prescribed, and there have been many, havent helped me at all. The office manager Marie in the providence location is so unprofessional. I called to book my second appointment and she answered the phone very rude. After getting upset I asked to speak to someone else and she made it impossible, followed by her hanging up the phone multiple times. I cannot even give ONE star to this group. I saw Dr. Zambenitdetti (sorry for the spelling on his name) but all call him Dr. Z. He is scatter brained, rushed, his thoughts are way ahead of himself, and he is not a true listener. He will repeat back what you have said but with his twist and say...Yes? Right? It no longer is what you said. I had CVS print out the prescriptions he had written over months WRONGLY. It truly was jaw dropping to me and CVS. CVS would kindly read them back to me to double check them before filling the order. VERY TRUE. I had to drive back prescriptions countless times. Be aware as you are in a jam to get things fixed if it is filled wrong. CVS was blown away with the amount of errors. He also listens but "does not hear you." He is too fast, and in a dash to get the next person in line. He has yelled at clients... again shocking but true. He even hung up on me when I called to get a prescript. fixed. His error and he hung up?? Than man needs to leave the industry. It is not a patients fault if the doctor is having a bad day. His way is the only way even though at first he make it sound like you are working as a team to better your health. Forget it as he has his thoughts only. As for a therapist... I saw Amie "Alberg" (again I don't have their cards any more so spelling may be off). She is a therapist. Yet not "in touch" as she will keep typing into her laptop no matter how long you have been seeing her. She is on it the whole time you are in session. She also watches the clock constantly. We had Dr. Z come in a couple of times and if he acted badly she would say "I cannot speak of his way of doing his job" rather than discussing inappropriate behavior. It was as if she was afraid of him. She would also laugh as the receptionist would send her text messages during sessions. NOT at all a profession trait. I requested that she set the computer aside to no avail. Once a session is over it the time to make notes. Lastly, she starts and ends five - ten minutes late/early. So again I ask ... why the computer all the time? She seems to be a nice person, and new to the industry. Maybe she will grow more with time (and not being afraid of Dr. Z.). read more

This place sucks. I had a first time appointment today that I made two months ago. It was for 10:30 so i arrived at 10:10 to fill out paperwork. It seemed like the girl at the CHECK IN desk was annoyed that I had interrupted her by coming to CHECK IN. She didn't say anything, took my id and ins cards, put some forms on the counter and made a call. I stood there waiting for some form of greeting or communication from her and she looked at me like i was crazy and says "I'll bring you your cards when I'm done" then goes back to her call. Most of the front desk staff seem to speak limited english, i felt like i was in a third world county between the staff and patients in there yelling in spanish. the office is on hope street so i was expecting a different demographic but whatever i get it...its providence. Meh. So at 1055 a very unhappy and uninterested doctor comes out to get me. No one mentioned they were running late, the doctor didn't apologize for it. He asks me why i'm there, doesn't ask about medications I've taken before or ones I'm allergic to. He spent ten minutes with me and basically told me how I was feeling instead of listening to what i had to say. He prescribed a medication and didn't tell me the name of it, the side effects, or anything about what to expect. He said take one,two or three at night, however much you feel like taking. Um ok. I have to go back in two weeks which i will because i know everyone has an off day. But after reading all of the terrible reviews online about this office i'm going to look for a new doctor in the meantime. I'm giving the stars only because I had a very positive experience with one of the clinicians here. So I started meeting with Mi Ok weekly a couple of months back for an isolated stressful incident that was quickly resolved with her counsel. Although I was dealing well I decided to keep coming to meet with her because I found her insight useful. So i attempt to book my normal appointment for Wednesday with her to be told she's not working Wednesdays anymore and shortly thereafter received a call notifying me that she's no longer with the practice. I hope she's alright and wish her luck- she's fantastic. So the negative review: kristen called and offered to see me if i was willing. I'm a psych major myself and am starting to be a substance abuse counselor as well and am told that the job is difficult and thought giving kristen a shot could be beneficial. But the office never called. She had said that an Ingrid (i think) would be in touch within minutes and yet i haven't heard from them in days. Wow, have to say that I'm surprised with all of the negative reviews when my experience with Dr. Kroessler was very positive. I went to him to help with some anxiety/panic disorder issues that I have been working through for years. I couldn't find any therapists that were taking new patients and a friend of mine referred me to Dr. Kroessler. He gave me an appointment right away. When I arrived, the staff was very courteous and there was NO wait time. He came for me as soon as it was my appointment time. One of the best things about Dr. Kroessler is that he asks the right questions and will work with you as much as possible to help you manage your issues without medication where most Psychiatrists are ready to write you a script for meds. He has taught me some techniques that really have and continue to help me. I told him that I didn't think I needed to see him regularly and asked if I needed to see a doctor, can I call his office to make an appointment.... he said that he is available to see me any time that I need to see him. Not many doctors will let you see them on an "as needed" basis. I'm so glad that I was referred to Dr. Kroessler and would recommend him to anyone who is looking for a great doctor who listens and will do everything he can to keep you off of medication, if at all possible. read more

Dr kroessler is a piece of work. All was well for the first year or so seeing him. Then I ran out of my prescription and called to have it refilled and was told I needed a pre authorization. No big deal right? Wrong. I called a minimum of 2-3 times a week for over 3 weeks to get my prescription and I never got a phone call back or my meds. I left countless messages. My phone call was not returned until 25 days from my initial call. And I was only called back because I threatened to get a lawyer involved. I don't know how you are supposed to benefit people when you act like that. read more

It is very sad that I post this review for others to see but I feel compelled to warn any new person contemplating on joining or entering Angel Street Psychiatry would be a mistake. I have been a patent there for awhile now with thoughts of it being wrong but I continued to stay and endured certain happenings. My most recent visit or lack of visit once I arrived, I was told the person I was assigned to to speak to did not take my insurance and thus did not have an appointment which was a waist of my time energy and everything else. I was rudely asked to leave or they would call the police and that the office manager over the phone did not want to hear my story of what transpired. Further my doctor who is dr. Z. was not there but someone would have him call me. Besides being mistreated by unprofessional and out of line employees or staff the doctor called the wrong number and his message was fast just to get off the phone to say he called. I called three times after that with no success of the doctor calling me back to explain what took place when I arrived which was a daycare center at the moment because one of the secretaries had children there up front in the office eating and drinking and both secretaries were not paying attention when I arrived to check in. This has become very wrong on so many levels that a medical office can be so rude disrespectful and unprofessional. At this point I will not return because it is making me sick just at the thought of walking through those doors once again. I hope this can help any new potential patient or client. I had an appointment for a 2nd visit to speak with psychologist Dr. Hershey about some recent real world reality, shall we say. On the first visit, he made a huge big deal about giving at least 48 hours notice if missed appointment, and preached about how bad missed appointments were to the business. When I showed up 15 minutes early for the 2nd visit, I was walking up to the building when the office called me to cancel..... with no explanation. I booked an appointment with Dr. LaHaye for January in November. I called the day of appointment to make sure it hadn't been cancelled because I didn't receive a phone call or text message reminding me of the appointment. Come to find out, LaHaye left the practice last week. I don't know what rude person they have working the phones in the Johnston office, but she's terrible. According to her, she called and was unable to leave a voicemail. I have NO MISSED calls and I have an iPhone - my voicemail can never be full or not working. So, I called her a liar and told her that my voicemail is infact active and I never received a phone call from her. When I demanded to speak to a supervisor, she lied and said she had none - hard to believe since she's not a doctor herself and transferred me to a different location. If I could rate this place a 0 I would. The first time I walked into the office I was judged and insulted based on nothing but a review of the medications I was on. Avoid this place at all costs, the psychiatrist spent 5 whole minutes with me and spent that time judging me and insulting me based on the medications he saw that I was on. He did nothing to try to help me it was my first visit ever and I got 5 whole minutes with him. This was the worst psychiatric experience I have ever had and I have suffered from depression for over 20 years so I've seen plenty of psychiatrists. The Rhode Island Department of Health needs to be involved with this institution as I would not be surprised if depressed/suicidal people have actually been harmed by their lack of professional care. I was treated or maybe mistreated, would be a better word, by the owner of the practice, Dr. Kroessler for about a year. He refused to believe I had a diagnosis which I have carried for over 20 years. If he had done his due diligence by getting my medical records he would have seen this diagnosis and multiple hospitalizations because of it. He also refused to speak to my former psychiatrist of 14 years, referring to him as "that Harvard psychiatrist" as if there where something wrong with a Harvard degree. I stayed with him because at the time my condition was under good control and it is actually difficult to find a psychiatrist in RI , even with good health insurance, but eventually my condition worsened without him even noticing and I ended up in the hospital. My 15 minute medication appointments lasted more like 5 minutes and his only concern seemed to be withdrawing me from one medication that I found useful that he did not believe in the long term use of. I am a law practice professional and I believe his failure to take read my medical records or speak to my former clinicians was malpractice or a complete lack of due diligence and contributed to my getting very ill. Im only giving this 5stars because of Dr.Solberg! I have been to the providence location to see the one and only Dr.Solberg!! She is caring,honest,and really puts the needs of her patients first! She is also very considerate and knowledgeable.. She will tell the truth, not just say whatever you want to hear.. But she will also find the positive side even when you think there is none! With her knowledge experience, and passion for proper patient care,She will seek options/treatments that will work for you!While she was on maternity leave the providence office kept rescheduling me, I almost missed an appointment.. UNTIL I emailed Dr.Solberg, she replied right back to me!! Within minutes she set me up with another doctor, Dr. LaHaye was also kind and helpful.. I still see Dr.Solberg and now that she is back from maternity leave , I see her at the new Johnston location the providence office wasn't as unorganized when Dr. Solberg was there!
