They genuinely care about the animals here. They are AMAZING people! If you expect a fancy doctor's office atmosphere, this may not be for you. Again, this is a non-profit organization only looking after the animal's best interest so you can skip the espresso machine and granite countertops. If you can't handle a small-town vet atmosphere and have snooty expectations, stay in the city and spend thousands more elsewhere. I commend the vets and staff that work there. It's apparent that the demands can be extreme. Some pet owners can be difficult to deal with and have unrealistic expectations, especially when their fur babies aren't feeling well. Unfortunately, the've lost some staff and had to scale back due to the extreme demands. At the time of my review, they only operate M-F on a first come first serve basis. We had the worst experience ever here when our dog Stella needed put to sleep. Front desk staff was rude and cold to us so we left and found a place with more compassion. Then my husband went to get heart worm pill for our other dogs and they refused to give them to him because I left a 1 star review but it only proves my point that they are horrible people read more

Long waits, even longer wait time to get checked out. Called to have a dog neutered and was told, we will call you when we get to you. Crowded. Poor parking. Give a absolutely no more then 100 bill, they bumped charges to $170 ish. And PLEASE. if you come here, do NOT stop on c hwy and look for entrance. It's at a bottom of a hill around a blind curve on a blacktop. Everyone has to slam on there brakes and try to stop while all the out of towners try and find entrance. Someone told me about Angels, so I figured I'd give them a shot. I live near KC metro and I was getting quotes for spaying my cat anywhere between $500 to $800 around town. That was really frustrating considering I just paid about $250 at a vet in Los Angeles just two years prior. Angel's Vet quoted me $110, and that's what I paid. It was about an hour drive from where I live. The morning drop off was simple, and then I was able to kill time at the local shops while I waited for my kitty. Pick up was easy, and the staff was great! This place is massive, as they also have a pet sanctuary- from what I understood. My kitty was back to her old self again within 3 days. I had to bring my sister's cat up to Angels which is how I found out about them. They took such good care of him, I was very impressed. About a week later, my dog's paw was so swollen so I ended up taking him to Angels. Yes, it is a bit of a drive but the way I saw the staff show such care for each animal, including my own makes it very worth the drive. On top of that, the prices are literally incredible. I have to bring my other pup to get his teeth examined and for some extractions and I will absolutely be going to them for that as well. They had no problem answering any questions I had, every staff member there is very knowledgeable. My pup was very well taken care of, and even though they were very busy, they did not make me feel rushed whatsoever. If I could give this place 0 stars I most certainly would! So my 8 year old schnauzer needed to have an emergency Pyometra surgery and the cost of this surgery at our regular vet was going to be $1500. I couldn't afford that but my dog NEEDED this surgery so our vet suggested that I take her to Angels Vet express because it would potentially be cheaper to have it done there. I rush my dog right over, get all the paperwork done and the estimate was around $1000. They take her back, tell me she'll have to stay overnight and that I would receive a call when she's out of surgery. A few hours go by and I didn't receive any call so I called them and the person who picked up was someone who works in the pharmacy. I ask her about my dog and she tells me "oh no one called you? They finished her surgery and the doctor has left for the day already." The woman goes to whereever my dog is to check on her but all she could tell me is that she's in recovery, shes resting now and that I could pick her up the next day. She also said that the Dr. would call me in the morning to say what time I could get her. I still didn't get a call the next morning so I call them again and they said I could pick her up anytime that day. I went over to get her and she isn't wearing a cone and I still have yet to speak to this doctor about her surgery. The lady at the front desk gave me her medicine and my copy of the recipe (which it said on the recipe to come back in 10 days but I already had appointment with our vet to check her stitches). It was so busy with other animals, owners and techs going back and forth taking animals, they didn't seem like they had time to talk to me so I just took my dog home, we start the medicine and recovery process. 4 days later at our follow appointment with my vet the first thing they noticed was her incision sight was a little crusty and red (that's how it look the day I went to pick her up) but my vet thought it was just from having a major surgery especially since she wasn't lethargic or vomiting. Once she finished her medicine she became sick again so we had to take her to the ER Vet and they sent records to my vet suggesting she needed more bloodwork done and potentially an ultrasound. We get an ultrasound done at my vet and they see an abcsess in there so my dog now needs a 2nd surgery. I asked my vet to get in touch with the Dr from Angels to just to try and maybe understand why this was happening to my dog but they made it so difficult to geg in touch with. They were barely able to get any records on her surgery. My vet was in contact with their vet and suggested that they could email a list of resources to help pay for the 2nd surgery or I could take my dog back to them for a cheaper price. My vet gave them my contact info and the lady at the front desk (still not a Dr. Or a Tech) called me to discuss the options. I tried to express my concerns on the lack of communication and her response was: "We don't give clients information about the surgeries unless they ask for it, it said on the recipe for you to come back in 10 days and I'm not going back and forth with you about this." So clearly this person who is not the Dr. Or even a Vet tech didn't want to hear my concerns so I told her just send me the list and we left it at that. A few days later my vet found a way to pay for my dogs second surgery and she was able to get it done a few days ago. What my Vets theory is that whatever Sutures were used at Angels were giving my dog a reaction that turned into multiple abscess where the sutures were. My vet did ask the Vet at Angels and asked what kind of sutures were used and Angels Vet DID NOT KNOW WHAT THEY USED! So long story short IDC how cheap this place is DO NOT BRING YOUR ANIMALS HERE! The lack in standard of care and communication with clients and IT IS ABSOLUTELY NOT WORTH IT! read more

Office manager assaulted my son because he raised his voice to one of the staff members who we later found out was his wife. My son raised his voice because this was our 2nd time asking them to put our dog down because of the tumors he had & his deteriorating health. They don't give a damn about the parents of the animals they treat. They did take care of our dog this time because I told the dr we can't handle him anymore. They have lost all our business. I'll take our other animal to a vet & pay the price before ever considering Angels Vet Express ever again. read more

I called Angels Vet Express (03/28/2014) in Savannah, Missouri today because my little mia was going into labor and couldn't have her puppies without c section. They told me to bring her up, when I got there they told me they would induce labor and that she would be fine, and they would call me around 4 pm..they called my boss at around 1:15 and told him Mia was going to die if I didn't get her to a vet! I didn't have my car, so my boss Shawn tossed me his keys and I went to get her, we drove an hour and a half to Trenton Mo. where they did her c section..her puppies didn't make it. They said that Angels shouldn't have induced labor on her without a surgeon standing by...now she has an infection that she is fighting...I want to thank Shawn and Steve for letting me leave without hesitation plus providing my ride. Angels should have never kept her...they let her lay there four hours...they should have told me when I first walked in that they couldn't treat her, the time was precious she lost her babies because of the care she didn't receive and then they wanted to charge me..lol they're not getting a dime from me, they better hope my Mia makes it! PLEASE SHARE I would also like to say that they are now claiming to have called me several times and I never responded, I gave them TWO contact numbers as sometimes I am unable to answer my phone. They had my employers number and when they called him (it was only ONE time) with the message that if I don't get there and take Mia elsewhere she was going to die!!! I've come to Angels for years. They are the reason my cats lived to be 16 and 15. They see 50-100 patients a day, usually one vet on staff due to budget constraints. It is difficult to staff a non- profit veterinary clinic and therefore sometimes they have to make unwanted changes, and sometimes things happen that are unexpected or not conducive to their great caregiving intentions. Not enough people who obtain great care for their pets take the time to review and people that have complaints are sure to do so. It is unfortunate! Currently, the caregivers who took care of my babies Olivia and Emily could not have been more compassionate and dedicated to their care! Dr. Dan Martin, Austin, Shawna, Daire, Natalie, thank you! You gave my girls life and life worth living until the sickness just won out! I owe you each for the time, respect, and love you showed to my Emily in particular, and to the care and confidence you gave to me! You are all in my hearts forever! Thank you! I have a 3yr GSD Rescue. My dog listens to me, and I always have control of him. He was sedated with meds beforehand to help with the aggressive barking & lunging he can do with strangers. FIVE people came up to our car when we got there! OF COURSE my GSD reacted to FIVE people walking up to our car - I'd be disappointed in him if he didn't! The vet IMMEDIATELY started calling my dog a FERAL dog that wasn't even worth treating! I said "Are you talking about MY dog?" I was PISSED OFF! He said "Yes! Your dog is untrained and a liability!" I said I knew he was not good with strangers that's why I have him strapped in to the car & to myself with 3 leashes, plus he has a gentle leader & a muzzle on! I said, "but I HAVE been training him!" In a condensending tone, the vet said "what have you done?" I tried to explain my training, but I was flustered & the vet kept cutting me off midsentence, knocking down everything I said! The vet said I needed to put a choke collar on him with a heavy chain for him to drag around 24/7 so that I could have control of him! I was hysterical & balling at this point due to the insane cruelty & insensitivity of this human being that is supposed to treat animals! I couldn't find the right words to say to defend myself or my dog at the time. My dog is a gentle teddy bear at home! He is MY BABY! I work with him everyday & he gets a little better every day! He is a rescue, it takes time & patience! He has warmed up to 3 of my family members that he had previously not met. He is starting to warm up to my neighbor. The vet & the owner told me that if I love my dog, then just take him home & just let him be happy at home- he didn't need to be seen or treated by a vet! A behavioral vet had previously put my dog on paroxetine and clonidine for OCD & Anxiety behaviors. The meds made it possible to get his attention better & training became easier. However, I had concerns about these meds, that's why I wanted to speak with another vet about them. Then this vet & the others start degrading me for having my dog on these meds- saying that I'm killing my dog by giving him those! I was balling my eyes out, saying how I just wanted advice about the meds & my concerns & wanted his heart checked out because of my concerns - I've never had my own dog before, but I'm a nurse and I could tell he has an irregular heart beat! I was not sure if that was normal for a dog or if it could be due to those meds or not! A vet tech tried to tell me how much it would cost & how much was involved in a work up for his heart. I said I didn't care. The vet threw his arms up & said he isn't dealing with this! I cried out "Good- I wouldn't want you touching my dog anyway!" Another vet tech stayed to answer some of my questions I had brought up during the previous conversation. I could tell she felt bad for me & the way things had happened. But she got called to go inside in a sharp tone. What was Asher, my GSD doing during all this talk, crying, yelling, ect? He was lying down in his kennel in the SUV like a very good boy! But none of them noticed or cared about that! That vet at Angel Express is a tall older man with gray hair & glasses. He needs to be fired or retire! He is cruel & insensitive- I can not imagine that he even likes animals at all! I had called ahead twice & no one mentioned that it was their busy time & no one said that they couldn't handle an aggressive dog. In fact the owner had previously told me, yeah, bring him on in, we have a rescue here, we deal with rescues all the time our vets can handle it & we'll give you way better prices than you'll get in the city! I wouldn't believe a word that came from their mouths & wouldn't let them touch any of my animals! I looked them up on Indeed to see what their previous employers said about them: "Very stressful place to work, Management is terrible, Owners are terrible people, Questionable ethics." This is my last visit here. I waited for hours but that's expected. I was expecting the vet to be able to do minor surgery as they advertised. But they don't. They don't even spay or neuter there now. The vet within 3 minutes had told me to go to some other vet because they don't even close up wounds. No concern over pain management or to ask about general condition of the dog. I had to point out the large tumor to her. She couldn't be bothered with a full examination. I was rushed up to the register and it was then that I asked about pain meds or what to do next. I was completely unsure of where to go from there. When I asked if she needed a set of shots for the next vet she said well how am i supposed to know what that vet requires. Complete joke of a place. read more

My sister and her husband were visiting during their move, and noticed a lump on the side of their dog. My BF and I had used this vet in the past for an injured stray kitten, and suggested bringing their dog to Angels / M'Shoogys to get the dog checked out. The wait was pretty long (almost an hour), but they had plenty of seating available in the trailer that had been converted into a vet hospital. For $10 to be seen, and $40 for care and medicine, this place cannot be beat! Most vets, in our experience, charge $35-$125 to be seen, and the rest tacks on quick. This location thrives on donations, and they are worth every penny. Their diagnosis was abnormal cellular mass that needed a histopathy (sp?) to confirm, which my sister would get when they got to their new home. Very happy with the care provided (they were right-on with their initial diagnosis, according to the dog's new vet). Second time using this vet, and would definitely go back and suggest to others for initial diagnosis and check-ups. Great price and great care! read more

He's soo very knowledgeable and compassionate about animals and finally after looking so hard and long to find a great veterinarian, they've not only found one this veterinarian fits right in with their mission which is to save lives. I love the staff they are wonderful and caring. I give them 10 stars if I could.. It's very worth the drive as this place is the best place to take your pet to.. This is a Non-Profit clinic that was filled with young Vets and Techs that have little experience. (During my visits to Angels) If people value their pet's life, take them somewhere like Twin Pines Animal Clinic in St. Joseph, MO. With Angels, I've had some good experiences and some very horrible ones. In my most recent visit, I brought my cat in with poisoning. They released her too early, and within the 1st hour, I could still see the obvious signs that she was deathly ill, and poisoned. FOR GOD'S SAKE! She was repeatedly collapsing, within 1 HOUR OF RELEASE. I immediately brought her back, and they wanted to charge me another fee to put her back in the hospital, after they released her prematurely. They had to keep her another day or two, before she could safely be returned home. read more

This place is hit and miss as to how knowledgeable the vet working is. We've had great care but our last visit was not great. The vet seemed like a novice who liked to throw antibiotics at everything. She also didn't listen to anything I had to say. I'm pretty educated on pet health but I think she had a bit of grad-itous and needs some humbling. I drive a long way to go here but I think this was our last visit. It's good for preventative care but they don't offer a 3 year rabies. We over vaccinate pets on general and they encourage an unnecessary 1 year rabies. Don't do it. Go elsewhere. The prices are almost impossible to beat. I'm always torn by my cheap side and the side of me that wants to build a relationship with a vet who appreciates my knowledge and sees me as a part of the team when it comes to my pets health care. I am very disappointed with Angels. I have taken our three dogs there an average of twice a year, from Kansas City North for the last six years, for shots meds etc.. My wife and I noticed a moderate price increase last year (which is not unusual considering the times), but this year they really hosed us, to the point they are now considerably more expensive than the surrounding vets here in my area in Kansas City North. The tech's were courteous & friendly, but the lady at the counter got very irritated & sharp when I enquired about all the new hidden extras on the bill. Angels has almost doubled their prices in the last year, as compared to the same invoice last year. We will not be making the trip to Savannah MO anymore. read more

My 11year old toothless bishon mix was attacked by a German shepherd at the door while I was waiting to check in. When I asked the vet tech if this happened often, she said yes because their waiting room was too small and they were trying to come up with a better plan. I only came there because my regular vet could not get her in that Sat. Morning and we feared she had congestive heart failure. The owner of the dog never apologized even though she had a huge gash in her neck which the clinic said she needed surgery for. The owner of the clinic came in and said that something like that had never happened before, and I told him that's not what his employee said. Of course, he made the employee come in there with him and she denied saying it. So after nearly two hours, I just wanted my dog treated for what I brought her in there for in the first place. They were more worried about if I had a credit card and not a check to pay with than the treatment of my dog. I told them literally SIX times I didn't realize care how much it cost just treat her. I could not believe tjeu wanted me to pay anything after this attack because tjat was lawsuit stufc and the vet tech's only response was you can't sue a non profit. Like that was something they had in their regular repertoire!! They never treated her for what I came for. We then begged our regular vet to see her after hours because of all this. Sure enough, she had congestive heart faulire,and had to be treated immediately. Since then, I have heard nothing but horrible rhings about this place and how this biting has indeed happened before. I eas treated like I was at fault, and they had no concern whatsoever for my dogs well being, except covering their asses over the bite. I wouldn't take a sick cockroach there. And thats the SHORT. story. They let a cat who could barely breath leave without being treated. read more

I am very upset with this vet. I took my puppy here today for his last set of vaccinations. The place was a mad house. They took me in the back, not to a room. Right across from us was a dog with Parvo. I believe this is very, very irresponsible of the staff. My puppy was exposed to Parvo. This is wrong and irresponsible, I do not recommend this vet. The vaccinations were inexpensive, but not worth the worry I now have for my puppy getting sick. You get what you pay for and I will never, never go to this vet every again! read more

PLEASE READ THIS STORY-We took our female dog to take xrays (OFA Hip) of her hips. Had an appointment at 8am. They were suppose to do this test and NOTHING else. When we went to go get her at 3:30pm they had NOT done what we wanted them to do on our dog. They said they had emergencies come in and couldn't get to our dog BUT they had time to draw her blood and test for heartworms!!!! THEY WERE NOT TO TOUCH OUR DOG WITHOUT OUR PERMISSION!!! They said she had heartworms(We took her to another vet immediately and the test results were negative!!!)They made our dog endure a whole day of who knows what terror and stress. Our dog was scared and pooping on the way home. We will NEVER take our dogs there. PEOPLE BEWARE OF THIS PLACE!!! read more
