We spontaneously decided to drive out for dinner from Kokomo. Wow! I have to tell you I literally had one of the best meals I've ever eaten. Our waitress (Jen- she was amazing!) recommended the peppered tender tips with the mashed potatoes and veggie medley. Our second visit to the Angry Donkey was just as memorable as the first. How did a gastropub like this end up in Michigantown, Indiana, of all places? The two of us split an appetizer sampler, which was uniformly awesome. The hush puppies were perfect, the spin dip was great, the crab cake was super tasty, and the wings were awesome. The peppered rib tips weren't quite the medium rare that we asked for, but they were only off by one degree, and were delicious. The beer selection is as good as I remembered. I hadn't had a Foggy Geezer IPA before - it was one of three IPA's on tap - and it's a keeper. The star of the show was Kristen, who was training a new server, and who can best be described as a force of nature. Unflappable, friendly and knowledgeable. We had the odd glitch here and there, but that's life in F&B. All things considered, our second visit cemented the Angry Donkey's place on our list of places to return to. read more

What an awesome find. About 30 mins north of the Carmel area sits a quaint town with a hidden gem of a restaurant. Food was on point. Our party of 3 enjoyed the shrimp and grits, pork sandwich, and the filet. For dessert, the donkey balls were delicious, as was the complimentary bread pudding my wife was served for her birthday. Service was impeccable with multiple staff members being attentive to our water (only complaint was water tasted like well water...but that's my only nitpick) refills, removing empty plates, etc. If you don't want to battle the craziness of Carmel restaurants on a weekend night, this place is worth the car ride through the country. We have been to the angry donkey several times. Great food, hard to choose what to have ! All the food is top notch. We went there as a group last year after a funeral. We were seated in the private room. There was a buffet of soup, salads and sandwiches. The waitress took our drink orders. The buffet wasn't refilled, as I wanted more soup . Then we were all presented with a bill to pay. Very odd for a wake, and if I knew I was paying , I would have ordered off the menu. Angry donkey needs to be up front about telling guests they will receive a bill. My friend only had coffee and was charged for the buffet too . Second or third time visiting. Came with family, celebrating a birthday. I was expecting nice, as this place does have a great reputation. It was so much more. We were seated in the middle of the dining area where we could view their very large Christmas Tree. The lighting and sound levels are perfect, we could have a nice conversation and enjoy ourselves. The food. Oh my. The guys started with bourbon and beer, I had a vanilla porter. Girls all had wine. All great. Appetizers looked amazing but we passed. Everyone had something different. I had the Beef & Reef with a sub of their fresh Mahi (upcharge expected) with roasted parmesan potatoes and vegetable medley. Others had salmon, steak, pasta. My steak was a perfect medium rare but hot not cold in the center, perfect size 6 oz. The Mahi was the crown jewel however. Most Mahi is sliced so thin you can't but cook it well done. I asked for medium and it was perfect. It had a crusty sear all over and the middle (it was a good 2cm thick) was hot and had the right feel - not dry. The salmon was also perfect as was the roasted squash. Dessert was great, I had peppermint ice cream; it has pieces in it - Glovers does it right! Prices are what you would expect. Very good! We drove an hour to eat here for lunch and it was worth the drive. We got the spinach artichoke dip, salad with breaded chicken, the pork burger, and the fish sandwich. We also got bread pudding and the pound cake. The pound cake wasn't our favorite so they switched it out for the chocolate cake. Yum! read more

I got my family to take the drive to Michigantown from Westfield. We had a great casual dinner on the one outdoor table at the entrance. Everyone was very nice and the service was excellent. Smoked wings were great! I had the tenderloin sandwich it was good, I am regretting not getting a steak or the duck, they also sounded really good. My wife got the beggars purse and though it was great, she did wish there was a little more chicken in it. The veggies were cooked perfectly and very tasty. Great dining experience in Michigantown. Wednesday special, all you care to eat Catfish, fries and slaw. Well seasoned breaded catfish fillets, good slaw and fries. The Angry Donkey is located in a thoroughly renovated older building that has a modern and fantastic dining room and bar, they have a family dining area as well. New furnishings and flooring, several TVs with just enough of the original building's character to appreciate the history. This was one of the more exceptional meals in my memory. Everything was prepared perfectly. And I mean perfectly. Our waitress was also exceptional. She was knowledgable, fun and just the right amount of attentive. Our waters were never dry, our done dishes were whisked away and she always seemed to arrive right when we needed her. We both had a lovely Cabernet and split the appetizer sampler which had all my favorites and was deliciously served with a tray of scratch made dressings and aioli for dipping. By then I was full but wanted to keep going so had the angry donkey house salad. It was superb...fresh greens, strawberries, house toasted almonds cheddar tossed in a perfect poppyseed. It was so light yet flavorful! My SO had the pork chop as was recommended by friend and waitress alike. Holy cow...it was amazing. Hands down best chop either of us had had. We pushed on and ordered the bread pudding. Yum. My SO said he thought it was best dessert in general he had ever had. The restaurant was casual but classy...just right. Come to find out this was same chef that had been in Westfield years ago that had knocked my socks off back then. So happy to rediscovered her..she has only improved if that was possible. This was our second time visiting and we were equally impressed. Interestingly enough, we had the same server one year later as our first visit. Jarri is a whirlwind of energy and personality and exudes pleasure in her job. The food was delicious- started with angry deviled eggs and onion rings then ordered the smoked meat special, shrimp and grits and angry burger for our main dishes. All were great. The bread pudding put the meal over the top. As we drive the 35 mins back to our hotel, we were so glad we returned and lamented the fact that we only get the opportunity to visit when traveling to the Indy area for kids sports events. Visited for my birthday with my family and had a fantastic experience. Reminds me a bit of 10 West in Cicero. Ordered the Blackened Catfish ($15) with their cheesy grits and sweet potato fries. I don't have much experience with grits, but I very much enjoyed these as they were a nice cheesy alternative to the spice of the fish. There were 3 pieces of fish in the order, and it was the best catfish I have ever had. Sometimes blackened can just taste salty, but this had amazing flavor. The sweet potato fries were easily the best I have had anywhere as they were perfectly cooked (not soggy nor overly crunchy). Service was very good and the owners are awesome. went on a Friday with friends, the service was excellent, our waitress was very nice. They all loved their food, however I got the special for the night, which was Ribs. I could not eat them I couldn't cut them off the bone. I ate about 3 or 4 ribs, and gave up. I took half a rack home hoping to make them edible, but to no avail. I have eaten there before and the food is wonderful, but I will never have Ribs there again. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of the Ribs. I will be back though, everything else I have had there is wonderful. read more

Like she will ask what you like as a base, and then do you like tropical, sweet, sour, or what. Then she "creates " you something on the spot. If your really like it, she will carefully explain what was in it and how to make it. Service was prompt and accurate. Off Street parking. Very clean and full of good ole Hoosier hospitality. Don't let this small town fool ya, this is a little gem of a restaurant. It's larger inside than expected. The decor is very cute. Good for groups or families. They have a "bar side" and a quieter family type side. To start-wings and drinks. The wings are delicious with a kick! They make a very good skinny margarita and have a good beer selection. Entrees-peppered beef tips, filet, beef brisket, rib eye. Everyone LOVED their dinner. Perfectly seasoned steaks. I had the filet which was delicious. Next time I'll try the peppered beef tips, they were wow! We all agreed that none of us are carrot fans and I have no idea how they cook them but they were SO good! Dessert was the "balls and berries". Delicious. The service in this small town restaurant nearly overshadowed the fantastic food. EVERYONE was so friendly and welcoming!
