The smell of roasting potatoes lured us in from the street. We had a quick wait, then our party of six were seated. Everyone was excited for a nice hearty meal, and the steak sizes were surely the biggest I have ever seen in real life. All cuts were $39, which included the salad bar. I opted for the eye fillet and paid extra for a jacket potato and sour cream on top. We got stuck into the salad bar straight away. It was pretty disappointing, with a few vegetable dishes and a couple of cold pasta salads. The steak was great, perfectly cooked medium rare. Unfortunately the jacket potatoes weren't crispy at all and could have done with a lot more time in the oven. Overall I felt like it probably wasn't worth the $40 a head price tag compared to other meals I've had in Auckland, but if you're after a whopper of a high quality steak and aren't too fussed about the sides or wine list, then you should check Angus out.

Have been here a few times but the last time was not so good as previous visits, which were all good both service and food wise. On the most recent occasion I chose a larger piece of steak from the sizeable selection and asked for it be cooked to medium. Not so, it had been done medium rare when finally came to the table. I did not realise this until after a few pieces but chose not to complain ( must have been one of them night's when I just wanted to leave things be and not cause a ruckas ) but instead ate a little bit more then decided to take the rest home as you can do here. The steaks can be big so chances are a few people could end up doing the same. The salad bar was okay and you can go back as much as you want to get more. That was probably the best thing about the most recent visit. As for the service they took a long time to come look after us for drinks . I do like the place for the ambience. Find it nice and relaxing. That is until you get a large table full of loud men come sit next to yours!!! Like I said this visit nowhere near as good as the rest. Would come back though , but not for quite a while.

Much more comfortable inside in autumn a bit too stuffy in summer! Great food to choose from. Can be busy so book ahead. No street parking. Tucked away in Fort Lane Auk. Seats about 90-100 diners. Not a quiet place or romantic. Staff are nearly all Chinese background today and they communicate very well and are friendly. Food came out within 10mins and was cooked perfectly. Cost was medium to high but worth the try.

The scotch Fillet. Done medium rare

The steaks we're awesome ! The salad bar is moderate which is in tandem with the service and friendliness. The price is reasonable though..

It's very delicious. It's great for both parties and eating alone. I always recommend their steaks - the quality is always consistent.

Very good food! Service was good! Don't let the ally locations keep you from dinning there.

I selected a particularly thick sirloin and headed to the chef, requesting my doneness and adding some sautéed mushrooms on the side.

It's been 60+ years for Tony's. The food is average but dependable. Steaks and seafood are prepared competently, portions are generous, and everything tastes exactly how you expect. Nothing stands out, it's familiar comfort more than destination dining. I wish they used fresh calamari instead of the rings. The friendly, old-school service does a lot of the heavy lifting here. The staff are warm and attentive, which helps elevate what would otherwise be a very middle-of-the-road meal. I watched them work together like a Olympic team. GREAT! A cultural icon with nostalgia on its side, worth a visit if you like classic American/Australian -style steakhouses, but not a place you go for wow factor. You will get good fires and a steak.

But the food is underwhelming and our server got our orders incorrect, despite repeating it back to us. She also brought us a drink that we did not order and instead of simply taking it back, she tried to push it onto us claiming that we indeed ordered it. Odd experience. For table appetizers we tried the fried calamari and camembert. It was disappointing to see the camembert was very small and served with basic crackers, not complimentary to the cheese at all. The calamari was good but a little oily. Each person in our party of 4 ordered different steaks, the steak is why you come to Tony's - all were cooked to our preference. I requested double veggies with my filet, since 2 sides come with each entree. But my veggies were the exact size of everyone else's at my table. When I questioned it, I was told that this is what I would get. Hmmm, okay. While I see the appeal for the pricing and the steak, Tony's would not be my first choice for a steakhouse in this area.

I got the Aged Specialty Sirloin $44. It was cooked to my liking on the inside but medium/medium rare but no crust on the outside. Seasoned fare, nothing special. I couldn't believe the gristle wasn't trimmed before cooking. Maybe so the size and weight would look bigger. I have had much better at Chili's. I haven't had a good steak since I moved to Australia from the US, and others have said the same. Their cuts seem to be full of gristle, even all the Spencer Steaks (Ribeyes). I expected on New York, but not on ribeyes or sirloins. I told them my review and they were very apologetic. They called the gristle fat, I like fat, you can eat fat. The offered a Ribeye The Ribeye came medium rare. I instantly could smell teriyaki. It was tender and flavorful no gristle. I do wish it did not have the flavor teriyaki though.
