We were looking for a place highly rated in Auckland for some good seafood and steak. I made a reservation online, which was super easy. I modified our reservations (due to change of itinerary) with ease. This place was decent, but did not meet expectations set from the higher reviews. The seafood chowder was good and the seafood meats in the soup were not overcooked, which I really enjoyed. However, I was disappointed to see imitation crab meat and not real meat. The chicken wings tasted like it had an asian flavor instead of buffalo hot sauce. The calamari was cooked nicely. The ribeye was okay. Unfortunately the lamb slices in the salad were cold (no flavor) and not appetizing. I ended up not finishing my dinner. The kids liked their burger and chicken tenders. The table we were sat at had Route 66 decor, which we thought was interesting.
Absolutely fabulous food. Good service. Beautiful decor. Can't say enough about this place. Website is very confusing because it shows two separate restaurants. Two names. Same restaurant.

Incredible service from the waitress working, we were sat down and had orders taken within minutes. The ambience of the restaurant is amazing, there is a mixture of different decorations that appear to be from many different cultures. The food was beyond my expectations by several kilometres, the pepper steak was tender and juicy, the brandy pepper sauce was creamy and peppery, with a mild brandy flavour, I tried some of the sticky pork ribs too, and they quite literally fell off of the bone as I picked them up. For dessert I had the New York style baked cheesecake, which came with whipped cream, and a berry coulis on top, with the cream on the side. Overall, the food was incredible, the service was amazing, and the ambience created a great sense of comfort. Would recommend, and absolutely would come again without hesitation.
My friends and I were visiting from the states and wanted a dinner with plenty of seafood options. Luckily, Tony's was only a 7-minute walk from our hotel so we decided to give it a try. The restaurant's vibe is very old-school, which I loved. There's a lot of decor that will keep you busy while waiting for your food. My table split an appetizer of calamari, which came with a garlic aioli(?) sauce that elevated the dish. I ordered the mushroom fettuccine, which was nothing like any other fettuccine I've had in America! It was doused in olive oil, balsamic, and parmesean (this is a good thing)! The mushrooms in the pasta were also coated in olive oil and balsamic - some of the best mushrooms I've ever had. I tried some of my boyfriend's dish, the fish of the day. The fish was a snapper with a choice of two sides. I've never had snapper prior to this dinner, but it was so fresh and soft. It almost made me question my entree choice! Tony's is a great restaurant that offers excellent food options for steak, seafood, and pasta lovers. I wish I had the opportunity to try their dessert but I was so full from my pasta dish.
My partner chose this place as he had good memories of it from university. An unassuming, unchanging old-fashioned steak house. As we approached, I fell for the place: vintage signage that hasn't changed in half a century, I'd bet. We went right to the mains - he for the Italian Steak, I got the Pacific (stuffed with crab meat, topped with prawns), potato and salad. Beautiful quiet room. Meat cooked perfectly. The staff were kind and attentive. We had coffee and tea, he got the apple tart, I had the pecan tart. Solidly executed with alarming generous portions! It was a solid meal, in a room that looked like an old gentleman's club, and we will visit again.
My wife and I were on vacation in Auckland and I had heard about Tony's and we decided to try out the lunch menu. It was pretty busy on a workday with office workers coming in for their lunch break. I ordered a beer and the lunch steak and some fried calamari. I liked that they had tomato sauce instead of ketchup, it is much less sweet and I think it is much more flavorful, more vinegary. The calamari was nice, could have been a little crispier, but it was good. The steak was a little small, but it was cooked well and the fries went well with the tomato sauce. Service could have been a little better, a little slow and we asked for mustard two times and it never came. I guess I had super high expectations from reading reviews, it is still worth visiting for a reasonable steak restaurant lunch.
Hubby love the steak and since I am not that hungry so I ordered the seafood chowder and Long Island ice tea and I asked Ian to make it strong and he didn't disappoint me. ...hubby gave a four stars on his steak and I give a five star for my seafood chowder and the Strong Long island ice tea! We are happy with Ian's service!!
Ambiance was dark, service was slow, Pacific Steak was not what we expected, but Tony's Original Steak was cooked to perfection. Nice, juicy, and tender.
Had the pepper steak cooked medium rare. It was cooked perfectly. The pepper sause had a nice flavor, and the steak was delicious.

First restaurant internationally! Our waiter was very nice and respectful. The place is compact, yet has a very warm atmosphere. I had the 'Tony's Original' which tasted amazing. The only catch was that we had to wait quite a while for the food to come. Friends and I approve! read more

Tony's feels like stepping into an old American steakhouse, the kind that's been around forever, knows its regulars, and hasn't felt the need to change much over the years. It's been 60+ years for Tony's. The food is average but dependable. Steaks and seafood are prepared competently, portions are generous, and everything tastes exactly how you expect. Nothing stands out, it's familiar comfort more than destination dining. I wish they used fresh calamari instead of the rings. The friendly, old-school service does a lot of the heavy lifting here. The staff are warm and attentive, which helps elevate what would otherwise be a very middle-of-the-road meal. I watched them work together like a Olympic team. GREAT! A cultural icon with nostalgia on its side, worth a visit if you like classic American/Australian -style steakhouses, but not a place you go for wow factor. You will get good fires and a steak. read more
A vintage steakhouse with the dark moody vibe that gives the feeling it's been here for decades, without any upgrades. The steak is good and the servers are kind. But the food is underwhelming and our server got our orders incorrect, despite repeating it back to us. She also brought us a drink that we did not order and instead of simply taking it back, she tried to push it onto us claiming that we indeed ordered it. Odd experience. For table appetizers we tried the fried calamari and camembert. It was disappointing to see the camembert was very small and served with basic crackers, not complimentary to the cheese at all. The calamari was good but a little oily. Each person in our party of 4 ordered different steaks, the steak is why you come to Tony's - all were cooked to our preference. I requested double veggies with my filet, since 2 sides come with each entree. But my veggies were the exact size of everyone else's at my table. When I questioned it, I was told that this is what I would get. Hmmm, okay. While I see the appeal for the pricing and the steak, Tony's would not be my first choice for a steakhouse in this area. read more

Hubby love the steak and since I am not that hungry so I ordered the seafood chowder and Long Island ice tea and I asked Ian to make it strong and he didn't disappoint me. ...hubby gave a four stars on his steak and I give a five star for my seafood chowder and the Strong Long island ice tea! We don't eat much steak but a local that we met on the plane ride to Auckland recommended Tonys Steak and Seafood. It's right in the CBD area. We dropped in on a Tuesday evening (around 7:15pm) and there was plenty of seating. I was looking forward to $1.00 oysters but they'd already sold out when we got there. Lame. The menu is split into entree/starters, main meals, seafood, chef's specials, pasta, salads and dessert. There are multiple drink menus (wine, beer, cider and cocktails). Pricey ($22.00 NZD for a Long Island iced tea)! The lunch menu is surprisingly reasonable ($12.00 to 18.00 NZD). - Seafood chowder ($15.00 NZD) - a delicious creamy feast of seafood. It came with two pieces of bread with massive pieces of butter slices. The chowder wasn't too creamy and filled with a good variety of seafood. Better than expected. - Tonys original ($36.00 NZD) - scotch fillet with special Tonys marinade. It came with potatoes and vegetables (zucchini and julienned carrots). The vegetables were excellent. The scotch fillet was cooked to a nice medium rare. A little fatty at the ends but overall, an enjoyable steak. - Roasted lamb rump ($36.00 NZD) - New Zealand lamb marinated with garlic, rosemary and pomegranate molasses atop a roast vegetable medley served with mint sauce. Everything on this dish was great! The roasted potatoes and carrots were delicious. The mint sauce was more like a thick mint jello sauce. The pomegranate sauce paired well with the juicy, tender lamb. It's definitely on the pricier end but if you're looking for a steakhouse, it's the OG spot in Auckland. 3.5 stars. read more

Good food, prepared as described in the menu. The eye fillet was cooked as requested. We also got the lamb rump. This was a new preparation for us so it took a little getting used to. My husband ordered the $1 oysters. It still had a pretty strong seafood smell, perhaps a fresh smell. The waiter was very patient and helpful during our ordering. It did get pretty busy so there were some instances when we didn't see our waiter for a long while. The other waitresses were always ready to jump in and assist when we bothered them for another drink or condiment. read more

I dont give 5 stars often but... this one deserved it. 10$ lunch menus are usually stuffs I hesitate for. There I didn't. We had fish and chips, burger and chips, a calamari, a beer and a soda for less than 50$. The burger bun was toasted in butter which was amazing and was garnish with some grated beetroot. It was delicious. The fish and chips was crispy and tasty. The fish was fresh and his frying oil not too old so we didnt get a dirty brown fish n chips I keep receiving in most places. My only disappointment was the portion of the calamari and the little splash of sauce... Besides that service was great. Our waitress was caring and fast. Location is perfect. So sometimes places seems to bank on that and serve cheap crappy food. They didnt! They deserve a 5 star. read more
My rating for Tony's Steak House is based on their Special $10 lunch menu. A typical English pub that's been around for 50 years. My group of work colleagues were here after our team meeting for lunch and we were offered the $10 specials. Pea Risotto, Calamari, Beef Burger or Rump Steak. All came with fries and a side salad. My steak was cooked beautifully and had only a tiny bit of fat on end but no gristle. It came with a pretty and nicely dressed side salad and good fries. I also ordered a side of mushroom sauce which appeared not to be from a can as it was chunky and tasted like sherry which I really enjoyed. My other colleagues said there meals including a seafood chowder were good. Although the risotto a little watery. I think it was great value for money. read more

Best dinner we've had for this trip to Australia and New Zealand. Calamari appetizer is super delicious. The Scottie Steak and the original KiWi lamp chops are one of the kind. Deserts are amazing and I just had the first pineapple cider for the first time. Thank you for the staffs and the chefs. Kudos. read more
