The ambiance was nice, the service was great; but unfortunately the food was just not that impressive. I got the eggs Benedict. I was unimpressed by the flavor, I feel like the Hollandaise had WAY too much lemon, and maybe mustard (?), in it, and the English muffin was really tough and untoasted. My daughter got the avocado toast that was a slice of sourdough toast with some wet avocado mash on it. Nothing else! I mean, I know it's called "avocado toast" but whenever we have had it before, it has also included...some other thing or things. Fortunately she did order a sausage also. While she was eating the avocado toast, a blob of the avocado spread dropped onto her skirt, as the bread had a big hole in it and they just put the spread over the top. We came in for my birthday without any reservations. This place has an amazing cozy ambiance, and the staff was really friendly. Our waiter, Peter, was great, and later by Mr. Costa who greeted us and to check on how everything was going. I can't begin to say how nice everyone was! As busy as London was, it was nice to find a spot so warm and welcoming. Everyone was kind and friendly! Peter was very professional and made sure to ask if we had any allergies before we ordered. I started off with a filet mignon, which came very quickly and tasted mouthwatering. To top off the meal, we had a wonderful dessert: cheesecake and ice cream. The amount of food was just right for the price. I would highly recommend Angus Steakhouse. If you're going for an evening meal, you will not be disappointed. I am basing my review as a former experienced bartender and server for 8 years. It saddens me to walk into an establishment and find our server not take pride in the restaurant he represents or customers who walk into the door. Our server was polite and courteous, but took 20 minutes for our drinks, and proceeded to take everyone's else's order before ours. In my book unacceptable and we waited 45 minutes to order. Finally received are meals very unsatisfactory. It doesn't matter if you are a new server or bartender you do not belong to the on the floor must improve on their training. Hard to beat the steak and eggs for breakfast here. Scrambled eggs on toast are fantastic, too, and the bacon is about the best in town. Zsolt, the server, is the man. I rarely write reviews for restaurants and hotels but I am somewhat compelled to write one this time. We were served by the lady named 'Carolina' at Paddington location (UK). It looks like there's some sort of racism issues going on in this place (carried on by the waitress in particular) and her manager. Food was okay but very rude staff. I don't understand why the parent company don't have nice staffs with nice manners anymore.. owners of this steakhouse should do something about it before the whole place loses all of its visitors. It is supposed to be a hospitality industry, isn't it? This waitress (CAROLINA) was really rude and also making faces while talking to my wife.. really pathetic (who does that esp. in hospitality sector and that too in a cosmopolitan town as LONDON!) Lastly, we were provided with the bill even when we didn't ask for it as we were expecting one of our friends to join us in sometime! Later on, we finally had to meet our friend in another restaurant nearby. I will be posting this review on every possible platform i can and will try to pursue this issue with higher authorities too. We orders a sirloin medium and a ribeye rare. Both steaks were cooked perfectly however there was no seasoning or anything on the meat while cooked. I don't know if it's the British style but the mashed potatoes were cold. Not room temperature but cold as if from the refrigerator. My sweet potato fries were under cooked. Service was spotty at best. Atmosphere was ok but the lack of AC (I know it's a UK thing) made eating much less enjoyable. Not as good as a chain steakhouse back home in Oklahoma. read more

Great location across from Paddington station. Price is decent. Only problem is they ran out of Angus steak so I settled for the New York. It was cooked medium and was not bad. Way overpriced for the quality, and you are likely to eat in the basement. I did have issues with my meal. The steak was a good cut of meat, but I ordered medium rare and it was closer to Blue (will post pic). Above that, I found a hair in the mushrooms. It's not unusual for people who don't travel for work to look at my schedule and imagine that my travels are glamorous and exciting. But, the fact of the matter is that most trips are very similar to the day I was having upon my arrival in London during the third week of March. It was pissing rain. I had a truly lousy meal (see my review of Zizzi: http://www.yelp.com/biz/zizzi-london-20#hrid:X6mXjDA5S9oBiB7tf2x8ug) and by 6:30PM I found myself back in my hotel room for a less-than-exciting night of answering emails and watching lousy TV on the limited selection of channels offered by my hotel. By 8:30PM my stomach was rumbling a bit and it was clear that I was going to need to eat again if I was going to have a decent night of sleep. There were a couple of options I considered, including heading into Paddington Station to grab something at one of the mini-groceries that operated under my hotel, or head into the rain and find a restaurant within a reasonable distance of the hotel. I opted for the latter and despite the large number of restaurants around the hotel, made a beeline to the Angus Steakhouse which is literally across the street from the Paddington Hilton. I have to admit that when I started travelling to London regularly a few years ago, I noted the Angus Steakhouse across the street from my hotel and, without giving it any real thought or research, I scoffed at the thought of eating there. I assumed that a steakhouse located above one of London's busiest train stations must be the equivalent to eating in an airport steakhouse. But, when a co-worker mentioned that he had eaten there and had a great meal, I was suddenly excited to try it out. It was only later that I learned that Angus Steakhouse is actually a 50-year old chain of steakhouses located throughout central London. This is no greasy spoon looking to serve sub-prime steaks to hungry commuters and tourists. Heading into the Angus Steakhouse that night, I considered the two previous times that I had eaten there. The first time I had the Lamb Cutlets which were perfectly prepared and delicious. The second time I had the Jacob's Ladder Beef Ribs which I found a bit disappointing, mostly because I wasn't crazy about the flavoring, but also because I always forget that I don't love the texture of beef ribs. That night there was no doubt in my mind that I was going straight for the steak. It is, after all, a steakhouse and after that crappy pizza I deserved something with a bit of, well, beef to it. Entering the restaurant I was surprised at how busy it was. I guess I'm too used to Seattle's sleepy roll up the sidewalks at 7PM routine. Even on a Monday night at 8:30 the place (well upstairs at least) was packed. The restaurant is divided into an upstairs and downstairs. The upstairs is dense, noisy and energetic. I've eaten in this portion of the restaurant twice and strongly prefer it to the lower area which almost feels like an entirely different restaurant with a slower pace and quieter dining experience. At this restaurant the people watching is central to the dining experience, and the people watching upstairs - and through the windows facing Praed Street - is great. Fortunately a small table had just been cleared and I was seated in no time. My server was friendly and attentive. It took me just a few seconds to decide what I wanted: Glass of Prosecco (£5.00) 8oz Fillet Medium (£21.50) Fries (£2.50) The prosecco arrived promptly followed by the meal in what I would consider to be an appropriate length of time for someone dining alone. (In other words, a server might be expected to stretch a meal out for parties of 2 or more, particularly if those guests are engrossed in conversation. I, on the other hand, was dining with a book as my companion, so I was happy to have my meal arrive quickly.) The steak was prepared to a perfect medium. It may not have been the best piece of meat I've ever had in my life, but for the setting and the price, it absolutely met, even exceeded expectations. I had added the mushroom sauce to my order but more often than not, found myself skipping the sauce so I could simply enjoy the steak's flavors. The fries were fine. I don't think they were fresh cut in the restaurant, but passable nevertheless. For dessert I ordered the Berry Cheesecake (£5.50) which was so-so. It was pretty clear that it was made somewhere else, and frozen and stored until time to serve. The total for the meal was £39.50 or about UDS $60. That seems to be the magic number for a decent meal in the UK. Of the three meals I've had at the Angus Steakhouse, this was definitely the best. We were staying not far from Paddington Station and we were looking for a good steakhouse. My expectations were not high due to the location; just too convenient. However, the food and service exceeded expectations. The price was a bit high, but if you are on vacation in a foreign land and expecting to find a bargain on good food, don't go to a high rent location like London! I ordered the American. It came with ribs, chicken. potato skins and corn. The ribs and chicken were both above average even without bbq sauce. The sauce didn't improve the taste much; so I didn't use much. Good corn and potato skins too, and there was plenty to eat. My wife selected a lamb dish with mint sauce which she also enjoyed very much. It was not as much to eat as my selection, but she was satisfied nonetheless. We found the service quite good and our waiter was pleasant. I have found that particularly in London, if you initiate contact with a pleasant attitude, you are much more likely to get it back. if you are a jerk . . . Beware, in London many places charge a cover. I don't know why yet, but 2 pounds per person on top of the tab is a bit of a surprise. Also, some places add in a service charge, so don't blindly add another. All said and done, we had a pleasant meal in a convenient location. I would recommend it for those not scrimping. This place is just a tourist trap. They are right on the corner so easy for tourists to just walk in from the train and many hotels in the area. The prices are very high, $20 something pounds for just a steak then you have pay for all your sides, for the level of food and service. I thought it would be be a good bet for our final night in the area but was so disappointed in every aspect of our experience there. Not only would I never go in to one of their places again but I sure wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Walk around the corner and try out some of the much nicer and better quality food.
