I had an exceptional experience tasting here with my mother and partner. I will definitely be back. The winery itself has an absolutely amazing location. There was plenty of parking, though the road up is very steep, so make sure your E-brake is working! There are two outdoor seating areas, one just outside the main entrance, and one overlooking the river. The area overlooking the river is not open to people just tasting, but it looked like the perfect place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine. The interior tasting room (where we sat) is luxurious while still being comfortable. The ambiance of the entire place is lovely, and there is beautiful art and charming knick-knacks everywhere. I was pleased to see all of the pride flags-- it's cool to know you're drinking in a safe place. The woman pouring also let us know that the winery has a literary/witchy theme, which I thought was fun and an excellent conversation-starter. The wine was good. I like German varietals, and this place clearly knows how to do them well! The Gruner was my favorite, and we ended up getting an extra taste of the early harvest to compare to the mid-season, which was lovely. We also got an extra pour of some bubbles because someone else had ordered a glass. The woman pouring was incredibly friendly, very knowledgeable, and even had the winemaker herself come and chat with us for a moment. Tastings were $25 for a decent pour of 5 wines (though we ended up tasting 7) and they come with a little cheese/olive plate to boot! I was very impressed by the experience offered here. It seems this winery also does a number of events, which I am looking forward to attending. This was an amazing find, and I highly recommend you drive the extra 15 minutes out of Hood River/White Salmon if you are visiting to taste. read more

Perched on a hill overlooking vineyards and the magnificent Columbia River, spending time at AniChe is a must for anyone visiting this area. It's not just wine tasting, it's an experience! The barn with bright red doors is the inside tasting room with lots of intimate Seating areas, party lights, and unique decor. While it's quaint and quirky, the real star is the outdoor seating, and if you are lucky, the gazebo looking out over the river. Buteven the side patio, or Adirondack chairs in front of the barn, and various intimate seating areas sprinkled throughout the grounds are wonderful. So relaxing and peaceful. Now to the wine. It's very different from any wine I have had before; they do blends combining grapes that typically are not put together. For example, the Puck 2020 combines Albariño and tempranillo. For me, they didn't work. The tasting had five wines and the only one that I would order a glass of is the Three Witches, a red blend of French grapes: Mourvèdre, Counoise and Cinsault. Along with the flight, they provided a little tasting dish consisting of a slice of cheese, some dried cranberries and white and dark chocolate. Nice touch. Service is warm and welcoming. And the vineyard dogs add to the charm! I'll definitely be back and will bring friends to relax in the heavenly space they created, sipping a glass of Three Witches. While the wine didn't appeal to my taste buds, I can't deduct a star for that. Wine is very personal so it is not their fault it didn't work for my palette. Everything about the vineyard and experience was wonderful. If you are wine tasting on the Washington side, make reservations and stop here. Or make it your destination. read more

It was an excellent vineyard for a glass of wine after a day of windsurfing. The host and service were really lovely, and the views and atmosphere were fantastic. Great views, the snacks were good, but the wine was bad. The flights are $25 per person and the amount of wine was so small it was BARELY a taste. I also didn't enjoy any of the wine. It tasted pretty off and you could taste the alcohol more than the wine. Most of it was pretty astringent. Over all I'd say it wasn't a great value but the views are pretty beautiful so there is that. And the dog there is sweet and friendly so one star for that as well. read more

Could've sworn I'd reviewed AniChe before, but apparently not. Sorry to have delayed my recommendation for this terrific spot. We live far enough away that it's impractical for us to be wine club members, but any time we're visiting the Gorge, we make it a point to visit. The location is stunning - with the production facility and the outdoor seating looking east down the river below. Couple this with a glass of wine and you have a wonderful place to spend part of an afternoon and to pick up a few bottles to take home. We are primarily red wine drinkers, but in my opinion, the standout here is a white Albariño variety. It's mostly found in Northwest Spain, but was a pleasant surprise to find it being made locally. Unless you cross the river near Portland, there are toll bridges involved in visiting AniChe, but a few bucks extra is well worth it for good wine and glorious views. FYI - if you crossed the river from the city of Hood River, and are headed back towards Portland, taking Rt 14 along the Washington side of the river and either crossing back at the Bridge Of The Gods, or going all the way to I 205 is a great drive. read more

Absolutely exceptional wines! AniChe Cellars specializes in blends. We opened the 2015 Goat Boy yesterday. It's a blend of Cab, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Merlot. It was spectacular! The best wine I've had in recent memory. We recently enjoyed the less expensive 2017 Inferno made from that year's "smoke kissed" harvest. It was VERY good. I look forward to trying the other four bottles I had shipped to my home. I haven't had the pleasure of visiting the Winery; I live in another state. Wanting to support small businesses during the pandemic, and having met the owner MANY years ago, I decided to take a flyer and chose six bottles of wine, untasted. I'm glad I did. We came toward the end of the day on a Thursday; the tasting room was relatively open. The view of the gorge from the outside patio is incredible. Women-owned and managed. Be aware the Hood River bridge toll is $2 each way (not one way like the Bridge of the Gods). The wines are creative blends and varietals that I wouldn't normally have an opportunity to try. What will bring me back however, is the unique experience that they pair each taste with a small bite of food. Really brilliant concept, and one I wish more wineries would consider. You can also order more food of course, but having a small bite included in the tasting fee was well worth it for me. read more

This is my girlfriend's favorite winery and now it's mine. The family that owns and runs it are amazing. They share so many crazy fun interesting bits of information. About wine, food, literature and the lists goes on creates and environment of relaxed conversation. The wine is mostly blends in Italian and Spanish styles. I love the reds. So one word of warning to any future out-of-towners like us: this winery is actually 4 dollars more expensive than it appears if you're coming from Portland, because the only way in and out is a toll bridge that charges 2 dollars each way. Just thought I'd make that clear, because I totally missed that until I got there, and at that point I was committed. Not that the winery gets those extra 4 dollars, but it's still the same price to you... I also figured I'd check out a couple other wineries in the area while I was here that I saw on google maps, but one of them was only open Friday through Sunday, and the other was only open "by appointment", so it was just this one and then back over the stupid toll bridge. My verdict: still totally worth it (though obviously ideally you'd get more value by popping over the bridge when other wineries were also open). I had heard that the view from this winery was excellent, and that was not wrong. Sadly, the view from right where tastings are done is basically "the side of a barn", but happily, take your wine glass and walk like 10 feet with it out of their tasting room, and boom, gorgeous river vista from a perfect vantage (and also a gorgeous view of the bridge, complete with reminder of how you paid 4 more unexpected dollars to get here :p. It is a pretty great view of the bridge, though.) Without that view I dunno if I'd say it was worth the extra bridge charge, but it would still certainly have been worth the $10 that goes to the winery itself. First off, it was gloriously laid-back and anti-pretentious, it really felt like you were tasting wine right in the winery (which you are! There are wines aging right in front of you in barrels, or in a couple cases, literal jugs! Super neat!) Secondly, of the 6-that-turned-into-7 wines we got to taste, we agreed that the 2 whites we tried were kind of flabby, but that all 5 of their reds more than made up for it in being exactly the opposite of that - really big bold reds with a lot going on, perfectly balanced tannins and just generally a lot of fun. Thirdly, yes, you totally get a free pairing of little bits of cheese, salami, chocolate and fig bits. Tiny bits, obviously, not even enough to be a snack, but that's not the point, the point is it's more fun tasting wine when you have all the right things to pair with it, and they provide that for you, which is a really nice touch. Was all pretty high quality, too. Finally, and I know this is not as important as everything else, but they have this one medium sized white dog roaming around, that *really* wants all the attention, and will prance about hilariously until he gets it. So that was also fun to watch. read more

We had a nice visit last Saturday. We came early and were able to get a seat. We were served quickly and the wine came at a good pace, not too fast and not too slow. We got the information we needed. This place blends their wine. They make good choices. Their prices are very fair. We came here five years ago thought the wine alright. They are now very good. We purchased the Three Witches. It is a great wine for the price, smooth on the palate and full in the mouth. Great flavor. We like all of their reds and place to return. This is a good spot. I really must have missed the memo on this one. The only thing this winery had going for it in my opinion was the view. I felt like the sommelier didn't explain to us what was going on. Maybe she assumed we already knew? She brought us a plate of what appeared to us as snacks which we gobbled down. Then as it turns out those were for tasting with the wine, and when they brought another wine to taste they began with saying "this wine goes well with such-and-such item IF you still have it on your plate" which to me was rather rude. Maybe if we knew that beforehand the wines would have tasted better. Maybe it was just the whole experience that led to me not liking any their wines. We left this place without a single bottle. Parking is also confusing and difficult for a first-timer, but apparently they have an unmarked parking area up on top of the hill by their building. Better signage would have been nice. If we ever return I guess now we know the ins-and-outs of this place and might have a better experience, but I'm not sure when or if that will ever happen. read more

I was in Portland on a sat and was heading out to the Columbia Gorge AVA to check out some wineries. So I decided to call a few to make sure that they were open since it was in Feb and a lot of wine makers take their vacations in the low season. I first spoke to Rachael of Aniche cellars. She politely told me that they were closed but gave me some recommendations on other places to go that fit my taste in wines. We chatted for a while and I mentioned that I do wine education part time at home in Chicago. Then she relented and told me that I was welcome to stop by and try a few of their wines that were already open as she'd be working in the cellar anyway. I accepted her kind offer and was on my way. I took US 84 which follows the Columbia river which was a wonderful drive. Then I crossed the bridge over the Columbia at Hood River, OR which was an awesome crossing. I was using a Garmin navigation system and it had me going up Hwy 141 alternative on the east side of the White Salmon River. I got lost, but what a wonderful area to get lost in. I eventually stopped by a home and a very friendly old couple explained how to get to the winery on the west side of the river. They told me about the blowing up of the 100yr old dam in order to let the salmon run up stream. Rather controversial. But I digress. I finally found the winery and Rachael with two other tasters. I tasted two reds and two white. I bought the two whites, an Alberino and a Marsanne/Rousanne mix. I also got to try a barrel sample of their Sangiovese rose which was very nice but not for sale at the time. I brought the Marsanne/Rousanne mix to a blind tasting and people really liked it. It was great to talk to Rachael about her wine making philosophy. I learned a lot. If I ever get back to the area, I'm stopping by again for sure. read more

We stumbled onto this winery as we were looking for a place to picnic with a bottle of wine and Syncline was closed (we were there on a Wednesday). AniChe was open so we figured what the heck, we'll give it a try. I was a little hesitant as their web-site said they had a lot of different varietals and their wine went well with food. Two red flags for me - this often means the wine maker doesn't necessarily do anything well - and the wine isn't all that great - so they say "it's meant to be had with food." Wow was I pleasantly surprised! When they say "served with food" - their wine tasting, which consisted of 5 wines for a $5 fee; they brought out a lovely little plate of foods to taste with each wine. There was a piece of cheese, a piece of chocolate, a dried fig, a piece of salami - and one other item I can't remember. The pairings were very well suited and the wines were impressive. There are 3 women who are all wine makers (which explains to me at least why they have so many varietals they work with). They have picnic tables with umbrella shades outside where you can buy a bottle and have a picnic outside - very nice. Staff was all very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. And of course they had a cool wine dog there. Have to have a wine dog at a winery. We had the kids with us and they made us feel very welcome. I even joined the wine club - the wines were that good. I'm so happy to have found another really good winery in The Gorge. My other favorite is Syncline, which we have been customers of since 2003. I hope AniChe continues to produce the quality of wines we tasted during our visit. I love supporting local businesses like this - and with wines this good, we will give them plenty of support! read more
