    Shadow relaxing at home
    Mike K.

My wife and I adopted Shadow from Animal Ark in 2022 after fostering her for several weeks. The process of fostering/adopting at Animal Ark has been criticized by some, this is unwarranted IMO. The proper match of pet/owner is critically important as was the case with our match to Shadow. She needed people with past Shepherd experience and a peaceful quiet home where she could adjust from being in shelters for over a year. Animal Ark does a phenomenal job with the dogs/cats in their care. Please support them any way you can and if you have it in your heart to adopt, there's a precious dog/cat waiting to come and make your life a little more special!

The excitement and hope of being apart the journey in abandoned cats life was very real for our family. We visited Animal Ark, our first impression was one of this an incredible facility and the staff seemed so kind. We decided to fill put an application in for Bristol and Breeze on 8/19/2023. We had return visits, made inquiries, we made multiple visits to see the kittens. We here we are on 8/30/23. We haven't received an email or a call from Animal Ark. on social media they posted this picture. To learn on social media after all of interactions and follow up conversations that we had But were never told the adoption was not happening is discouraging and sad to me because think opportunity we could've given another cat if we had been told.

my boys, enjoying the bird activity in the back yard.

I adopted a pair of cat brothers back in April. Spirit & Pepper. They are wonderful. The staff was welcoming and explained their background and behavior quirks very well, and talked us thru the best way to adapt them to our home.

They have very much improved since my last post. Have more staff now and our adoption was approved in a timely manner (within a week).

I love their commitment to the dogs. They are one of the few shelters that helps pull dogs from Minneapolis Animal Control

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! MY granddaughter and I went to do a meet and treat with a 12 wk old kitten…read morethat I was approved to adopt. After arriving and speaking with a staff member my granddaughter and I spent an hour falling in love with this little gal. Before leaving we were going to pay her adoption fee and ask a few more questions only to be told that the kitten wouldn't be a good fit and doesn't get along with other cats. Which clearly stated on her page that she was good with other cats! After listening to there reasons that she wouldn't be a good fit I told them that my granddaughter and I had already fallin in love with her and I was willing to give her a try and to work with her if needed to only be totally discouraged to even do that. I don't understand how when we first arrived we were not told this information immediately so we didn't spend an hr with her becoming totally attached and in love with her. They could of also called me prior to the visit but didn't! I specifically told the gal that I was looking for a playmate for the cat that I already have right when we arrived! The least they could of done was be willing to let us give her a try instead of discouraging us in every way possible! They said the choice was mine but every time I said I would still take her they went on and on about it just wasn't going to work! So clearly the choice wasn't mine! My 10 yr old granddaughter was in tears all the way home and I'm SO DISAPPOINTED UPSET AND HEART BROKEN I don't even want to adopt another kitten at this point! Such and awful experience!

Wow, what a wonderful shelter!!!…read more Rather than being in sad cages, all the cats are in rooms - some with other cats if they get along or need some socialization (and some alone if they are divas!) The rooms are all SUPER clean with lots of beds, perches, toys, litterboxes, etc. and the cats all looked very well cared for. They all got turns to come out of the rooms and explore the hallways for a while. The staff were great and very friendly. They knew a lot about the cats and who might be a good fit for the adopter - making sure that every kitty goes to a home that will let them thrive the most. If you are looking for a cat this is 100% a shelter you need to visit. You have to make an appointment but you will most likely have the place to yourself to get to know the cats. Well worth the extra bit of effort (we had recently gone to an adoption event at another shelter and it was so busy and most of the cats were off in "visiting rooms" so you couldn't meet them very well.

Rather than keeping the cats in kennels or cages, the cats can free roam within rooms that are specific to their personality type or medical conditions. There's a big main room for the social cats and kittens, another room for cats that are shy, a third room for cats with dietary restrictions/food sensitivities, and a fourth for kitties who are FeLV positive. The rooms have windows and beds and space for them to move around, which is so nice to see! This is a nonprofit no-kill shelter in a fairly small town so because they are volunteer based, they don't have long daily visiting hours. However you can rest assured that the cats get plenty of socialization and attention. These are very happy, very loved cats :) Staff here are also very active on social media so check out the Caring For Cats Facebook page to see all of the cats and their stories, to donate, or to participate in their fundraising events! If you're in the market for a fluffy new best friend, please consider making the trip CFC!
