We were prepared to drive from Minnesota to Indiana to bring home our rescue pup. Along the way we were lied to and tricked by two different rescue organizations that were both out of state. I changed my strategy and decided to confine our search to the twin cities area and fortunately came across Underdog Rescue. I'll admit I was cautious and skeptical because of the bad experiences we had, but I knew I had to look close to home. There is just too much risk to drive 10 hours to purchase a dog you have never even met. Coupled with the fact that they know nothing about whom they are releasing these dogs to. That is really a huge disservice to these animals whom have already been through so much. We highly recommend Underdog Rescue, they run their organization with great integrity and they take their responsibility of placing these animals in safe, loving homes very seriously. Every single step of our adoption process with Underdog Rescue was very well organized, with great communication/response time and everything moved along nicely. From the adoption coordinator, foster family, home visit consultant all whom work full time jobs and volunteer their spare time to place these animals in the loving homes they deserve. We can't thank Underdog Rescue enough for helping us give sweet Carmy (Tutti-Frutti) her forever home!!

(Stray Cat Strut) Huge thank you to Last Hope for taking in the sweetest stray cat that wandered into my care, strutting right by with her tail in the air in December. She was too much of a princess to get her dinner from a garbage can, or get a shoe thrown at her from a mean old man! Red Wing doesn't have animal control, and all local shelters were full. The foster-based Camp Companion rescue also never responded back after I filled out their online form...so the situation was getting desperate! Last Hope became my literal last hope, responding immediately that they would be able to place her in foster care after being vetted at a clinic in Burnsville. I was so impressed with their communication and caring--I can't recommend them highly enough! They really do have cat class and cat style!

Rather than CALLING ME to see if it was okay with moving forward, they ABORTED the babies and then CHARGED ME FOR IT. I have never been so frustrated, disappointed and sad ever. This is just pure animal cruelty. They should have called me to confirm if it was okay (I would have NEVER EVER said yes.) and not only that, they charged me an additional fee for something I would have NOT okayed. DO NOT GO HERE. We've been taking our dog to The Bond Between for his whole 4 year life at this point! Having…read morepurchased our dog from a breeder to ensure a hypoallergenic coat, we wanted to continue to support local rescues since we didn't adopt from one. The Bond Between is a non-profit veterinary clinic and rescue that provides support for rescue animals, foster animals, and other animals not adopted from them. We continue to see Dr. Gohr because she is incredibly friendly, sweet and affectionate to our dog, and knowledgeable on the veterinary services we have requested. Pricing is always straightforward and upfront, and portions of the cost go back to supporting the mission of the non-profit. It's also not difficult to get a convenient appointment or even a last minute appointment for an emergency!

Wow, what a wonderful shelter!!!…read more Rather than being in sad cages, all the cats are in rooms - some with other cats if they get along or need some socialization (and some alone if they are divas!) The rooms are all SUPER clean with lots of beds, perches, toys, litterboxes, etc. and the cats all looked very well cared for. They all got turns to come out of the rooms and explore the hallways for a while. The staff were great and very friendly. They knew a lot about the cats and who might be a good fit for the adopter - making sure that every kitty goes to a home that will let them thrive the most. If you are looking for a cat this is 100% a shelter you need to visit. You have to make an appointment but you will most likely have the place to yourself to get to know the cats. Well worth the extra bit of effort (we had recently gone to an adoption event at another shelter and it was so busy and most of the cats were off in "visiting rooms" so you couldn't meet them very well.

I have a special place in my heart for CFC…read more Visiting animal shelters can honestly be depressing, but I used to volunteer here in college and it is the most well-run no-kill shelter I've seen; the cats are living VERY comfortably. Rather than keeping the cats in kennels or cages, the cats can free roam within rooms that are specific to their personality type or medical conditions. There's a big main room for the social cats and kittens, another room for cats that are shy, a third room for cats with dietary restrictions/food sensitivities, and a fourth for kitties who are FeLV positive. The rooms have windows and beds and space for them to move around, which is so nice to see! This is a nonprofit no-kill shelter in a fairly small town so because they are volunteer based, they don't have long daily visiting hours. However you can rest assured that the cats get plenty of socialization and attention. These are very happy, very loved cats :) Staff here are also very active on social media so check out the Caring For Cats Facebook page to see all of the cats and their stories, to donate, or to participate in their fundraising events!
