This facility was recommended by a coworker and they did not disappoint. We were greeted as soon as we walked in the door and waited a very short time to be seen. Our dog, Gypsy, has a torn ACL and in a lot of pain. Dr. Eubanks took the time to explain our options and she was phenomenal with our baby girl. She conferred with another physician on duty and was able to advise us on our next steps during the same visit. Drove about an hour 1/2 to get my dog 1 lepto vaccine and asked that they clip his nails. The tech ended up giving him an extra vaccine that I did not request (a Lyme disease vaccine that he has never had before). She took him back without me present so I was not able to see that she was doing & that she was giving him a vaccine I did not want. They did not take any money off for giving him an extra vaccine that I did not ask for. Also this is a vaccine that I will have to drive back to and get a booster for in a few weeks (which no one bothered to even tell me). Very disappointed in the service I received. I love the owner Dr. Spindel (he is an amazing vet and takes great care of all his patient's) but fear I may have to find a new vet because of the incompetence of the staff from yesterday. read more

VERY poor service and communication with in the staff. Very long waits!!!! I waited 40 mins in a room for a wellness visit for my 2 dog. The tech drew up all the inoculations and left them on the counter. The vet came and asked "so who gets what?". From there, spent 3 quick mins looking at each dog and concluded they both looked good. I said one has an ear infection (he hadn't even looked in their ears.) Then I spent an additional 30 mins waiting in the room to get my meds and checked out. No one ever came and checked in on me or let me know there was a reason for the wait or even apologize for the wait. Steer clear of the clinic! read more

During covid, my cat couldn't poop for 3 days, I went to animal ark, but my vet, Dr Spindel wasn't in, but an assistant took kitty in and gave her an enema. said, she'll be fine. 3 more days more days passed without going poop. I took her to another vet, and had to use instruments to get it out. She was fine for a while but it recurred 2 more times. She was always fine when she came home but when the vet suggested euthanizing her, I never went back. On the internet, l found that I could give her Metamucil and that worked for almost 2 years. Today, after 3 more days, the Metamucil, didn't work, she was blocked. I called Animal Ark because Dr Spindel was there but because of the incident with his assistant, he would not take me back. I think I had a right to be angry, my cat would have died if I listened her. I'm very disappointed in Dr. Spindel for holding that against me. I need to see a vet so I'm going to Hopkins Rd animal hospital, without question, I got an appt. Don't know what will happen but Animal Ark would have let her die! read more

I used to have a positive impression of Animal Ark, until May 31, 2023 when my dwarf rabbit was seen by Dr. Acton who is new to the Ark. She diagnosed a grade 6 heart murmur but on the phone she said, "We don't do grades for heart murmurs", so that made no sense at all. Based on her diagnosis, she gave my rabbit 4 weeks to live and had the audacity to suggest that I "let him go." He is 7 or 8 years old, btw. Dr. Acton prescribed pain medication for I presume, the bladder stones she saw on the x-ray and another medication to 'get things moving'. She never told me he had GI stasis again, I figured it out by researching the medication. She also did not recommend a cardiologist based on my rabbit's alleged grade 6 heart murmur. Thankfully, I have a friend who is a vet tech and she referred me to a veterinarian who specializes in hearts and who would give my rabbit an echocardiogram. Long story short, I got a second opinion an my bun did not need a heart scan because he did not have a heart murmur, he has congested lungs and was immediately put on antibiotics. In summary, I would not recommend Dr. Acton to care for any pet. Any vet who says, "Sorry for the bad news!" when they are incorrect and use an explanation point should not be a veterinarian. I left Animal Ark in tears and no one could have cared less. I am no.longer a client. read more

Our bird of almost 13 years suddenly started acting different. We called Animal Ark and they worked us right in even though we had never been there. From the lady at the check in shed (which is brilliant) to the girl that brought our birds ashes to our car, I can't say enough about how kind you were to us. Everyone we dealt with was so nice and when it was apparent our sweet bird would not survive, everyone was unbelievably sympathetic towards us. I would highly recommend this vet. My boxers have always been treated at the vet near our home. When my son's bearded dragon needed treatment we learned he doesn't treat reprisals, we turned to Google. My son is in the military so while he was at a training I had to take his beardie. That's when I learned how nice ALL the staff are. We are in the middle of nowhere so it's a bit of a drive, while there I learned a woman leaves fairly close to us traveled there because they're amazing. After my 2yr boxer got her allergy shot (around 10/3).day later seemed to get a cold. After appts. & meds, she was getting worse, & my vet said specialist at CVS but soonest 12/9, then a little sooner at their other office 2hrs from me. My vet didn't want to give more scripts, I could DM cold/cough & wait till see specialist in December. But she got much worse rushed to CVS hospital, admitted to ICU, but not transferred to specialist been trying to get in there, my boy died 6 months ago of cancer & my girl 2year before from cardiomyopathy, I needed them do everything to save her. That's a separate fight. But led me to Animal Ark. after my son deployed is when she'd gone down hill, and when I took his gecko I learned how much they do to treat dogs & scheduled an appointment. They saw her within a week. That's when I learned about a new, highly contagious & possibly life threatening respiratory infection, none of the previous 3 Drs mentioned when I begged for cause. Everyone was great, took precautions to ensure my dog wasn't near others. I learned of new treatment resistant pneumonia through Charlotte that vets had put many alerts out. At 2, she's normally healthy, energetic, fully vaccinated, not around dogs & 2+ hours from Charlotte, but she got it, likely from going for regular visit at our vets, but no interaction with other dogs. My vet sends her out for X-rays bc can't X-ray any of my lovable, wiggly boxers, Yet 1st appointment here got X-ray, they surprisingly said great for X-ray, got answers, continuing treatment & she's slightly better but still struggling. EVERYONE from front desk, to vet tech, nurse & vet was great & vet in the room, took time with us. My girl is still fighting this horrible severe case of pneumonia, (my husband & have had dogs well over 30 years & never experienced this) its serious, this office has helped her considerably. Going back today & still scheduled for specialist (2hrs away) next week, after 8+ weeks I hope that's unnecessary. Bit if you have reptiles or other pets I highly highly recommend this vet!! read more

I was extremely disappointed in how my appointment went. To immediately refuse care to my dog because I expressed genuine concern that there was rude, disrespectful, and unprofessional behavior towards me during the appointment goes to shows that Dr.Spindel is careless, unethical and lacks the empathy required to be a great provider. If he prided himself on excellent patient care and customer service the experience that I had would have never happened. I was very excited leading up to the appointment and I was truly convinced that this was going to be the best place to bring my dog for all of her needs. To say that I am disappointed is an understatement. My concerns about Ellie's allergic reactions and her ear infections were met with apathy and taunting. To accuse me of judging the doctors on "energy" and "vibe" alone is grossly negligent and immature. He is the one who judged and ridiculed me when I described my feelings of being uncomfortable and that is the entire reason for my review. I did not feel as though he was truly invested in Ellie's care or hearing anything that I had to say so that we could come up with an effective solution together for her issues. Instead Dr.Spindel attempts to paint me as uncooperative and uninvested in my dogs care which is simply slanderous and untrue. Had he been willing to have a collaborative conversation with me I would have been overjoyed. The Staff is mostly women and They are All animal Lovers; Very Patient with customers and always extremely helpful and they are always extremely busy probably because They have the best veterinarians in Clemmons, probably Winston Salem. That's my opinion and I usually only take my Dogs there. Give them a chance and I bet you will agree and become a regular customer. Very Clean and convenient location with plenty of parking. Mitch is, hands down, the most compassionate vet around to both animals and their owners. I've taken other pets to various vets throughout my life and always felt (and sometimes knew) that some of the tests they ordered were just to pad their wallets. Mitch will never lead you into paying for unneeded procedures and while he mention that XYZ could be done, he will never say they should be done unless it really is needed. Their basic service rates may be a tic higher than other vets in the area, but you get what you pay for and since they don't do frivolous procedures, you and your furry family member will come out cheaper and better in the end. read more

We love our current vet, Guilford Jamestown Animal Hospital, but when our chicken and dog got into a tangle a few weeks ago we were in need of emergency services on the quick (for the chicken - the dog was fine, although we were far from impressed with her actions). The Animal Arc was recommended by my boss who has taken her dogs there for years. I called in the AM and they were able to fit me in straight away. When I arrived the staff was extremely warm and welcoming. I think I was offered a beverage like 3 times! The staff also seemed very caring and concerned for my little chicken. Dr. Spindel was very nice and prescribed little Cucu some ointment for her wounds. I am happy to report that Cucu has made a full recovery and is living her days, happily in the fenced in chicken run. If we ever have any more issues with our chickens it is good to know there is a great vet closeby to take them to! read more

Without an appointment (and they were very busy) they agreed to see our sweet cat. After some time and tests they let us know she would probably not make it through the night. They were incredibly kind, comoassionate, and empathetic to us. They allowed us to spend almost 2 hours in their comfort room with our cat, cuddling and loving her. The veterinarian came in and explained everything that was about to happen to my husband and me, and our girls. She validated our decision in that it was the kinder option. Do not get your bunny spayed here.I've been trying to gather my words with grieving.My ex-girlfriend & I had been blessed Christmas 2021 with Thumper from a local breeder for her while she was at school nearby in North Carolina, Thumper would spend some time with both of us.9 months later we were blessed with Thumper's half-sibling Toby a male bunny with very similar looks so we each had a rabbit every day. We both cared for both bunny's deeply & we were both close with each other still so we would help each other set vet apps, make sure they had the best food the best hay, water. I reside in Maryland so there's no options as far as vets that specialize in rabbits that were accepting new patients post-covid. Whenever Thumper had to go to the vet I would drive around 85-90 miles to PA (Where my Ex is originally from) to take her to any vet appointment or if it was an emergency. This vet was our "local vet" and did not offer boarding.we researched spaying as it was vastly recommended by our vet in PA & The ark.we knew spaying is the right choice, especially with female rabbits & we felt comfortable with letting her board at the vet as long as she needed & The Ark offered boarding. I didn't want to cheap out and try to save a few bucks by going to a vet and something go wrong after and Thumper die anyway because that's pointless. Both bunnies had been patients with the Ark for quite some time now with routine rabbit issues such as nail clippings and checkups and 1 case of GI stasis. I had never met or dealt any with anyone from the Ark but My ex said they were friendly & treated our buns well. (They are in the hospitality business) When we had decided to get Thumper's spaying done with the Ark A receptionist told us that we did not need to board her & that its a "very minor surgery", We strongly insisted on having her boarded however. We scheduled the pre op she was very healthy, blood work came back well ekg & physical went well. We scheduled December 6th as surgery day and Thumper was dropped off before classes. The vet called and said the surgery went well & that she is doing good but was not eating, she was kept overnight as a hospitalization stay for night one the next day she started eating on her own by the afternoon and we opted to keep her there until Saturday morning under care. When Thumper was picked up Saturday there were no pain meds sent home & the paper they sent along was that she would be on bed rest for 14 days, "a minor surgery" Thumper's cage was very comfortable post surgery & prepared with everything she needed and was never handled. Everything was well on Saturday & Sunday. Monday morning Dec. 10th at 6:30 when everyone was asleep she died instantly & let out a scream just before. Thumper had blood spotting from her private area but not by the stitching. Immediately I knew something went wrong a bad feeling in my gut. My ex & her mom packaged our lifeless bunny into her carrier & met with Dr. Spindel at 8am. At first he said it was likely a "heart attack and that she would have died in a few weeks anyways" very nice of him to say. which is very unlikely for bunnies to develop heart conditions under the age of 4 (research it) and being that Thumper was only 2.5 years old and was a perfectly fine healthy bunny as Dr Spindel did her pre op check and said everything came back good. Dr. Spindel also said he does about 2-3 bunnies a day as if that helped when she came in with a dead bunny that was young 2.5 years old & we trusted in doing the surgery and this was his response.He said he would do an autopsy which i had low hopes of getting an actual truth from, We were told the cause of death was pericardial effusion. He also could not tell us as a vet where the blood came from also. He never advised us of this risk or recommended post-op ekg or blood work which we would have gladly done if we were recommended. We will never know if he didn't clamp something well or if something was nicked in surgery. I would do anything to have Thumper here with me Today. We will always love you! read more

Can't recommend them enough. If you have exotic pets (literally anything that isn't a dog or cat), take them here! Took my guinea pig on Saturday the 28th because he looked like he was on the brink of dying (turns out it was a respiratory infection) and as soon as they brought him back, he seemed better. His vet is Dr. Weaver but I know there's another doctor there who also works with exotics! He's slowly recovering and I know it's because I brought him to a place where the staff are knowledgeable about small animals. They recommend doing certain things but will inevitably do what's best for the pet. It's what saved my little guinea pig. Staff is super friendly and don't make you feel crazy for asking many questions. Not to mention the vet is really thorough and explains everything as clearly as possible! It's also reasonably priced! Yet another reason to go. :-) This animal hospital is honestly worth the 40 minute drive. read more

I had a terrible experience here. They kept my Kimmy from me for two weeks after saying she was a vicious cat. They did not apologize for keeping her longer than expecyed, nor made me feel better about her being gone so long. They had terrible communication and customer service. I called everyday to check on her and no one seemed to know where her treatment or steps in protocol were at. After such a traumatic experience, the doctor never came out to speak with us. They were Ryde and nasty towards me the whole time. I'll never take my kitty here again. I wouldn't suggest anyone else to either. read more

I took my cat to this Vet 3 times. She was an elderly, fragile cat who had chronic problems. They're very busy, I think that's part of the problem. The first time the vet seemed wonderful. They drew labs and the results turned out to be worrisome. My problem was that I waited all day, on the day they said they would call with results, and no one called. The cat was very sick and I was worried. Late that afternoon, I finally called to check. The Vet hadn't even seen the results yet and was on the road. Long, story short, I drove over to the clinic and talked to them. They contacted the Vet and had him call me and we sorted through treatment options. I chalked it up to a one off, but decided I should probably look around for a different Vet. Last week my cat again became very ill. The other Vet I had taken her to wasn't open so I took her to Animal Ark. Bright side, they were attentive and kind. Downside, they put her on antibiotics, but the dose turned out to be for a 10 pound cat. Mine was 5. 5 pounds. After the 3rd dose, she took a sudden turn for the worse. She appeared to be in distress and then started having bloody diarrhea. I called the vet and that's when I found out they dosed her based on a 10 pound cat. I wasn't thrilled but I knew they were just trying to help and my cat had chronic bowel problems (in addition to renal problems ect.) We adjusted the dosage, started subcutaneous home fluids and moved on. My biggest concern was yesterday. Again, the cat looked very ill. I took her in thinking it was time to let her go. She was suffering. They were very good about letting me accompany her inside as she was examined (With Covid, now no one can go inside.) The Vet told me she was blind (and had probably memorized the house so that's why I had never noticed) and the pacing could be dementia. She said she thought I could wait until Monday to make the decision to let her go and should try more anti-nausea medications and fluids. They said they could give the fluids for that day or I could, since I had fluids at home. Being exhausted and stressed, I asked if they would. My cat came back with a lot of water on her back, which was odd. You don't need to make that big of a mess just giving subcutaneous fluids. When I got home, I couldn't find the fluid pocket. It couldn't have absorbed that fast. I'm not sure how much, if any, was actually infused and she really needed the fluids. She was severely dehydrated. Bright side, I did spend the entire day holding my cat in our recliner. The downside, she was put to sleep later that night by another Vet. They confirmed that she was severely dehydrated and would require hospitalizations and aggressive IV fluids to even have a chance of surviving. Even if that worked, she'd still be an 18 year old cat with a number of chronic health problems. I had already realized it was time, but if there had been any way, I would have liked to have saved her. You always hold out hope. Anyway, my cat didn't have dementia and although she was blind, she hadn't been a week before. She ran the house and saw everything. I get that they must be overwhelmingly busy, but I wish I would have gone somewhere else. I did get a whole day to say goodbye to my little cat (although I hate that she was suffering) and the Vet that put her to sleep was wonderful, so that's the bright side. That said, I will never take another pet to Animal Ark. You can make your own decision. Experiences differ. Just keep in mind, it doesn't take a lot of skill to do an annual physical on a well animal. Anyone can do that. It's when they're sick that you need a good, kind, attentive vet. Most of us don't even mind paying an arm and a leg if they do a good job. It's when they charge you top dollar and then leave your pet suffering that it gets to be too much. Anyway, form your own opinion. This is mine. read more

There are major discrepancies with how they treat each patient and even more discrepancies between each team member. They tell you that you need something (anything) and if you ask questions, the answer is generally I don't know or just because. then you talk to another team mate who tells you something different and a third team mate say it doesn't make sense why they would say that. They made me feel like they are only looking for money and will say your animal needs something they don't just so they can charge you. An example is my dog was scheduled for an office visit to get his last round of shots, I had an emergency in my family and missed the appointment. The clinic called to reschedule and the lady says well if it's about money I can schedule you with a technician and then you will only be charged for the shots And not the office visit. It doesn't matter if I make $25K a year or $250K a year, why would schedule an office visit (to charge more) if one is NOT needed?! I had my hopes up for this place because I heard great things for long time existing clients. Clearly, they only take care of their old clients and try to screw over new ones. read more

This is a wonderful hospital for your pets. Our kitty was attacked by something outside. He had an abdominal abscess that was about to burst with fever of 105 F. Dr. Weaver surgically placed two drains in his tummy. After three weeks he had another surgery with Dr. Eubanks. And after two surgeries and an antibiotic treatment he is doing perfectly fine. Animal Ark Veterinary Hospital has an amazing caring staff. They called us to check on Skyler, helped us with after surgical care. We are planning to get a service dog and this is will be a place for all his needs. We are so thankful to all the doctors and staff for saving our kitty's life!!! read more

I started taking my English Bulldog, Betty White, in September 2015 after I adopted her from a rescue. She had terrible skin issues and that was why I initially took her there. I hadn't had a pet since I moved to Winston Salem, so after some referrals, I took Betty to Animal Ark. She has severe yeast problems all over and severe allergies. About a month after I got her, I noticed a growth in one of her folds. Dr. Spindel kept putting the blame on her yeast. The spot continued to grow and was bleeding. I rushed her in several times over this growth and finally Dr. Spindel offered surgery. Once it was removed, it came back as cancer but the doctor, Dr. Weaver, felt she got great margins. During this surgery, I should mention, that they did a complete fold recession without telling me. Betty is an English Bulldog and this removed the rope fold over her nose. A few weeks went by and the cancer returned. I decided to go to NCSU oncology for a second opinion. At NCSU, it was discovered that the cancer had spread to her right lymph node and the left had no indication of cancer. From this visit to her second surgery was 13 days. Between these 13 days, new tumors appeared under the initial tumor (under her right eye). I told the lady checking Betty in for surgery that these had surfaced and needed attention. This surgery was to remove the first tumor and her right lymph node, that had been diagnosed as cancerous. When I picked her up, the new tumors remained and Dr. Weaver removed the left lymph node. For cancer treatment, I decided to do a new cancer vaccine ($1400 paid in full) that Dr. Weaver had encouraged to me in detail. She felt this was her best chance of survival. The tumor and lymph node removed were to be sent to the company that makes these vaccines and would be ready to start treatment within 10 days of the surgery. After several calls from panicked moments about leaving a cancerous lymph node in my dog, Dr. Weaver gave several excuses. She left it to monitor it. The left one was larger (had never been larger than the right. I had my mom, a nurse practitioner, checking every day.) She didn't need to take either but took one anyways. The excuse was never the same and she would never admit she messed up. The vaccines, series of three, came August 1st and needed to be given every 30 days to work. We set the appointments all at once. Between the first and second injections, I wrote a letter asking for a refund of the surgery, since it was done wrong. I had a one-on-one conversation over the phone with Dr. Spindel a week after I asked for a refund. He offered no solutions and told me several times that he stood behind Dr. Weavers decision to leave the right, cancerous lymph node in. He then told me that the vaccine only had a 5-10% chance of working, which had never been discussed with me. The worse part had yet to happen. When, at the end of an hour long battle over the phone with Dr. Spindel, I told him that I would not be returning to AA for services and I needed to get the remaining two vaccines so I could get them to another vet to administer he told me no. I told him I was prepared to get a lawyer involved in order to get my vaccines. The vaccines were at his office, in the freezer. I knew they were because they told me they were the day they received them. Dr. Spindel told me, "If you contact a lawyer, you will not get the vaccines. I will call the company and tell them not to send the next two and you can just hope the first one worked." To say I was mad was an understatement. This doctor, who swore to do no harm, was lying to me. He was refusing treatment to my sick dog. I knew he had the vaccines, so I simple said, "I'll be there tomorrow to get them." I spent the next 24 hours verifying that his office, indeed, did have the vaccines. Since Dr. Spindel refused to tell me the name of the company, I had to go through several phone calls and internet searches until I found the company. They confirmed his office did have the remaining two vaccines, the shipping date, tracking number and even offered me the protocol. Another lie told to me by Dr. Spindel is that only he was licensed to give the vaccine, no other vet in NC was able to administer. The company told me, "anyone can administer, as long as you can insert a needle under the skin, you can give the vaccine." The next day, I walked into Animal Ark to retrieve Betty's medical records and vaccines. They took me back into a room so Dr. Spindel could lecture me. I sat quietly, recording everything he said with my phone since he had a tendency to lie and change his stories often. He handed over the vaccines, admitted he had them the entire time and I went to the front desk. I asked for her medical records, requested the day before. They refused to give them to me, saying, "Dr. Spindel says he needs a day to go over all of them." He needed the day so he could alter her records and he did. This is a wonderful veterinary hospital. They offer all kinds of services, the prices aren't cheap but not high either. You will get exceptional care here. It is also a vet that has an experienced ferret vet on hand, Dr. Spindell. I take my ferrets there and have been for years even though this vet is about 2 hrs from me. Another thing that I liked about this vet is that when I lost my past ferret, they sent me a sympathy card with most of the workers signing it, I though that was very caring. Dr. Spindell is one of the best vets around in my opinion. In fact, one time I had to leave my ferret over night and he personally went and checked on her for me at night. As an animal lover, and future veterinarian, I would recommend this place to any animal owner. read more
