DO NOT USE THIS VET!!!!! My dogs have gone to Clemmons Vet Clinic a little over a year. About a year ago I got a dog from the animal shelter and took her to get a regular check up/all her shots as she was new to me. Fast forward a year to when she needed her yearly vaccines, we went and guess what? She had never been given her heartworm shot-- and she now had heartworms. When asking how this could have happened, there was no real explanation other than "now that she has it, it will be in the system as a yearly reminder". This is one of the most important shots-- how could this happen? There was no apology or understanding of my frustration. She also could not have her yearly vaccines now that she was sick, but the doctor (Brown) clearly stated- She must have her rabies shot updated before we can treat her. Fast forward a couple weeks to her receiving the very expensive heart worm treatment, I call to ask what time she needed to arrive and if there was anything I needed to do to prepare her. Woman in the front office was very short, rude, AND gave me wrong information about how to prepare her. I asked for Dr. Pete to call me to confirm. When he calls back, I told him what the front office staff had told me to do-- which he confirmed was wrong. He also claimed he couldn't find our conversation after stating that all call are recorded. My dog has her heartworm treatment done and had a few minor complications. We go back in for final shot about a month later, and I ask about the vaccines getting updated and receiving her rabies tag, as it was never given to me. The front office staff pulls her record and says: ALL HER VACCINES ARE UP TO DATE. I told them that is literally impossible and it's how we got in this situation in the first place! They go back and forth and get the vet to determine it must have been put in the computer wrong, AGAIN. They stated she could not get vaccines at the same time as final heartworm shot-- come back in two weeks. We come back two weeks later, get her final heartworm bloodwork, and ask to have her vaccines updated. Once again, the front office staff states that ALL HER VACCINES ARE UP TO DATE. THIS IS WRONG, for the THIRD time!!! I once again let them know this is wrong and should have been fixed in the office the previous two visits and it needed to be done today. We go back into an open area behind office to clip nails, I remind the vet tech about her vaccines as well, and for the final time I am told: HER VACCINES ARE UP TO DATE -- WHEN THEY CLEARLY ARE NOT!!!!!!!!! I will NEVER come back to this terribly negligent place. read more

I had five feral kitties to take in to be spayed and this was during the ice and snow so taking them in I had to stay and wait for them to be done and this vets office called me the minute the cats were able to go home so I didn't have to stay around a real long time. After 30+ years we made the switch to Clemmons Veterinary Hospital. The staff is first rate and the prices aren't criminal as with so many others. Having 3 dogs we could no longer afford the $400+ per dog for annual checkups that our previous clinic is charging. I'm praying they don't get bought out like so many others. read more

There isn't any where for your pets to do their business and you have to walk down the road to find a grassy area of another business and the vet office doesn't offer any trash bins for your doggy bags. read more

He has been absolutely great my boy has had a lot of trauma the last 3yrs due to vets & groomers,he has started to bite...Dr.Pete is very kind & compassionate, he goes beyond helping with my baby boy.. He did surgery that we were afraid might be cancer, on his inner left leg.. Praise God it was just a nasty tumor,but wearing the cone was horrible and it made my baby's anxity really bad, but doc is great and understands his problems considering he's 14yrs old..Tks Dr.Pete for being there and always making time for Boo, and always returns my calls, mean so much!! Today was my first visit at Clemmons veterinary Clinic. I took in a stray that was deemed aggressive by one rescue group and unacceptable Thankfully, another rescue was interested and suggested I take her to Clemmons vet I could not be more impressed They understood the dog and and it took only a minute for the vet tech to have her cuddled like a baby in her arms. I've been to many (and even worked at) veterinary clinics in my lifetime and this one tops the cake for one of the worst. They are overbooked, and will rush you out in a heartbeat just so they can get paid. The vet will not give you more than 5 minutes of their time, will refuse to take into account your concerns while trying to diagnose an issue, and will not give you any indication of the medication they're are prescribing and what it's for. My guess is this is because of their urgency to get to the next patient and are trying to do too much at once so that they forget the basics. On top of that they mismanage medication and will short you on pills that you've paid for just because they do not fit into the tiny bottle they choose to put them in. I choose to take my dog to this clinic for a second opinion while my dog's primary vet was out of office. He would have had to see a different vet anyways so I figured temporarily switching clinics wasn't going to make a huge difference in his care. I picked Clemmons Vet solely based on family members' recommendations when they came here years ago. Clearly something has changed and I deeply regret this choice. After our visit I left feeling disappointed and like nothing was really accomplished. All in all it boiled down to.. we don't see anything on the xray (which they don't tell you up front that if they need to use anesthesia it is an extra $75) and he's old and it might be an infection, so continue the current meditation (which she even lowered the dosage, like if the previous dosage was not working then I don't think lowering it is going to help any more), try a (very expensive!) antibiotic and come back in two weeks." In total the trip was $366, for the visit, xray, and two weeks of medicine (minus the one pill they shorted him). Before scheduling an appointment I was trying to get an estimate of the cost and expected the visit to be somewhere in the $200-250 range - so yeah, expect to be shocked by your bill. You will not be told about potential extra costs because "that's not something that crosses their minds" according to the hateful office manager, Tammy who inspired my need to write a review. She took a bad situation and made it worse. If you try to get anything resolved retroactively, there will be no resolution and just constant runaround until they finally hang up on you. The office manager will invalidate your concerns, provide excuses for their poorly office, gaslight you into thinking you're wrong for questioning the service you received, and will do nothing to make you feel better about your visit. In fact, with much contempt she would say "I'm sorry you feel that way" about many of my concerns and eventually she began suggesting multiple times that I should just not come back. No worries there sweetheart, I ain't. They didn't even want to refund a measly $2 back for the missed medication. No, I will not and should not have to drive up there for a singular pill just because your staff "made a human error." It is the point of the matter, had I not diligently checked the cram-packed, filled-to-the-brim-so-much-that-a-pill-broke, pill bottle I would have never known. Medication issues aside, it has overall been a terrible experience. No one wants to own up and be accountable and make reparations. It is a get what you get clinic, and if you don't like it then kick rocks and get lost. You've been warned. UPDATE: We've just finished the last day of his medicine and he is even missing two pills of his expensive antibiotic. He should have three pills left for tonight and alas he only has one. If these people can't even count, why would you want them taking care of your babies... seriously. read more

My animals get very good care here. When there is a routine thing, you can just come in and you get seen in a reasonable period of time. Doctors are very good. The whole place tho needs a good cleaning. There is dust everywhere, even in in the treatment rooms on the countertops. You can easily see it around the back of it. The front has been wiped but that's where it ends. Everything seems antiquated and needs updates. Chairs are uncomfortable and too close together. But they will call you if you prefer to wait in the car. That is the only concern I have. But obviously I go there so they do have overriding good things they do. read more

Wouldn't recommend to anyone. They're more concerned about their bottom line than quality of care. They overbook appointments, which is obvious by the waiting times, massive parking lot overflow and general chaos (I understand the COVID argument, but they are clearly in over their heads- they should take this into consideration when scheduling). On top of that, you can't get in touch with them because they do all of their business over the phone due to COVID restrictions (it's not like this at other vets). Phone rings three times before being cut off. The staff is unfriendly and more concerned about getting your credit card information than getting your pet back to you. I sincerely believe they're in it more for the money than for the well-being of our pets. Specifically.... I took my dog there in August 2020 with a lump on his nose. They sent me home with allergy meds and another pill that they thought would take care of it. I went to the beach and came back and the lump had not gone away. I visited them again in September and Dr. Catania told me that my 4-year-old puppy may have cancer (why didn't they propose this the first time), and proceeded to run x-rays, blood tests, and sent off a cytology sample to the lab. They sent me home with eye drops that I was instructed to put in my dog's nostrils, which would supposedly kill the infection (if it wasn't cancer). All in this was a $500 visit. I was okay with this at the time because as we all know, we'd do anything to make sure our beloved pets are healthy. However, in retrospect, it seems more like Catania was using the fear tactic to squeeze money out of me. This was on a Thursday, and she told me that she would contact me the following Monday or Tuesday once the results had come in from the cytology report. Monday came around, no call. Tuesday came around, no call. I waited the rest of the week on a phone call (all while thinking my dog may have cancer) and received NOTHING. Waited another week, nothing. By this time I was FURIOUS. I kept trying to call in but as I mentioned earlier, couldn't get through to anyone. Finally in October, I received a voicemail from Catania saying the cytology report was negative. I called back extremely disgruntled and demanded that I speak to Dr Gilyard. I told him how upset I was with their operation and that Catania didn't follow up with me on the cytology report like she said she would. He implied that it was my fault and that Catania had called me 14 times, which I instantly discredited because she was using an old phone number that was once on my file. She clearly had access to my new number because she eventually left a voicemail like I mentioned previously. Gilyard ended the conversation by telling me to continue to use the eye drops and that would heal his nose (they didn't). To tell me that my dog might have cancer and then lackadaisically attempt to get in touch with me after the report came back is inconsiderate and insincere, and shows that they are too busy to provide quality care and attention to their customers. Would NOT recommend. Take your business elsewhere where your pets can get the quality attention and care that they deserve. **I will say that Dr Gilyard is a nice guy and genuinely loves the animals he sees. When Dr Catania came around is when I began having negative experiences with this vet. I've taken my business elsewhere, but if you must use this vet, make sure Dr Gilyard is the one in charge of your pet. read more

One of, if not the most popular veterinary office in the area. If your appointment is scheduled for 10:00, don't expect to be seen until 10:45-11. The lobby is also way too small and overrun with clients. A fine vet, but seriously... expect to spend an hour plus waiting to be seen. read more

Dr. Pete and his staff are the absolute BEST! The care he gave my ailing 17-year-old kitty in 2010 was amazing. Shortly after Lucy crossed the rainbow bridge, he started working with me to care for my now 12-year-old kitty Tessa who has kidney issues. If I follow his advice, I expect she will continue to live a healthy life as she has since her first visit and diagnosis. I couldn't be more pleased with the love and care they give to Tessa and the compassion they show to their patients and clients. read more

This review is no reflection on Dr Pete. He is amazing! The front desk on the other hand has a lot to be desired. If you try to call the office they immediately put you on hold and you are on hold FOREVER. When they finally do answer they act like you are bothering them. When checking out no one up front can walk and chew gum at the same time (especially the older woman). Appointments are always later than scheduled and they always seem to be overbooked. If it weren't for Dr Pete I would find a new vet. read more

I like this vet clinic a lot, have been going there since 2011. I like Dr. Pete and Dr. Taylor a lot! I am giving 4 stars because they're not truthful about giving rabies shots. It says right there on the vial "for vaccinating healthy animals" yet they will vaccinate a sick dog or cat if they are not up-to-date. He used to be better than this! They gave my cat, who was not feeling well, a 3 year booster. The chemicals in the rabies vaccines contain known carcinogens so I shy away from it. I have a rescue friend with over 50 cat urns in her home from cats that died from cancer . We're not even allowed to do titer testing. NC rabies laws are among the worst in the country. read more

It is not possible to put into adequate words a description of the loving care my 11 year old golden retriever and we received from this compassionate and professional veterinarian and his staff. We've adopted a new rescue pup from AARF, and she has established care with Clemmons Veterinary Clinic. She met and was examined and treated by Dr. Pete Gilyard. I am certain she will receive caring and professional services here. There may be other qualified vets in the area. I can not imagine one who cares so deeply for his patients. read more

We moved here in August 2020 and have been so pleased with the care out dog has received under Dr. Pete! He is so knowledgeable and personable and their rates are incredibly reasonable. The wait time is my only complaint. I don't know if it is because of covid or if so many people want to take their animals here but it tends to be excessive and it is impossible to get through on the phone lines to let them you have arrived for your appointment. I think they could adopt better covid check-in procedures to cut down on wait times and ultimately frustration on the part of the owners. read more

I had heard amazing things about this clinic, and made my senior girl an appointment. It's a convenient location. However, there was an intense urine smell when walking in the door. It's a vet clinic-I can understand that. The reception staff lived up to their reputation of not being the most friendly. The woman that checked us in did not make eye contact and even asked what color my dog is (who was standing right in front of her). We waited in the waiting room for a bit, and was called back by a tech that had no interest in interacting with my dog, and acted as if she were invisible. We talking about reasons for the visit (including anxiety), and he continued on his way as the doc would be in. I waited for ONE HOUR while listening to all the staff chat in the back hallway. Due to my dogs anxiety, we could not stay any longer. I went out into the waiting room, and they reported the doc is finishing up and that we would be next. However, I declined and we won't return. If there had been communication throughout that hour about timeframes and concern for the anxiety that I had expressed, it would have been different. read more

I must agree with some of the other reviewers on the front desk staff. The first few times it was off-putting, as one of the gals especially is never THAT friendly. I've come to just accept it. She's not into small talk & it's just her personality. I am super super glad that I didn't let that deter me from making Dr. Pete our vet!!! He is hands down the most amazing man!!! This review has no reflection on Dr. Pete. I went in today to pick up my dog's food, which is a weight management food. I always pick up the thirty two pound bag. She came in with the six pound bag and said that because I didnt have my dog in for an office visit in September (25th), that she could only sell me the 6 lb bag. She said I could order it online but since it was a prescription brand, that when the company called for the prescription, that it would be denied. I've been taking my eleven year old dog here since he was one-year old. I had covid last month and still feeling some effects from it, so i wasnt able to get him there by September 25. I asked her if I could go ahead a set up an appointment for next week to bring him in (since today is Friday) and she said that she still could not let me buy anything except the small bag. She said that people make the appts, then will council. I love my baby so why!! would I council the appt.????? I hope Dr Pete will read this review and get back with me because as much as we love him taking care of my baby, this girl's attitude needs some looking into. read more

I paid $40 for a 10 second examination of my dog's paws. Literally 10 seconds. The medication I paid $70 for isn't working. It's hard to get an accurate diagnosis when the vet spends all of 10 seconds with your pet. One of the ladies at the front desk is still quite abrupt. The vet barely gave me the time of day. My wife and I have 6 dogs. Dr. Pete Gilyard has been our absolute favorite person and the go to person for our dogs for many many years. He has seen us through bumps, bruises, fights, fleas, deaths and an unfortunate run in with an electric fence. Dr. Pete has always given us sound advice and a very friendly smile. We have 3 greyhounds and Dr. Pete knows all about the breeds sensitivities. We wouldn't dream about taking them anywhere else. I couldn't end this review without commenting on the comical friendly desk girls. They are the first friendly faces to greet you and they always have setting positive to say. We love them. read more

the wait time here is horrific!! Scheduled appointments weren't attended to on time as well. Very disappointed

There was a prescription error; we were prescribed 75 mg Carprofen, we were given the 100 mg pill by mistake. I did not notice the problem until we had gone through about 7 days of the 14 day prescription. At this strength and the 2 pills per day directed, my dog was getting about 50% over the maximum amount allowed for his weight. This could have been a serious problem. I immediately notified Dr. Gilyard. He asked me to bring the pills in to show to him. After he verified the error, I requested that there be some sort of compensation provided to us. The doctor refused to accept this proposal. He did relent and accept my request that this $35 prescription be provided to me at no cost, but he demanded that we no longer use his services. This I found to be unfair, since I had done nothing wrong. In fact, I benefited the doctor by alerting him to this major error. My opinion is that refunding the payment for the medicine was the very least that they could do under the circumstances. My dog could have been badly affected by this overdose! read more

I absolutely trust and love Dr Pete! All 8 of cats go here with various needs. Ranging from feline hot spots, heart condition to vaccines. They always work to fit me in when needed. Amy at the front desk is warm and welcoming. I've seen several of the vets there all very knowledgeable and friendly. I highly recommend them. If we've ever had to wait it's due a situation more critical. Which I would hope someone would do for my sick pet and understand. Can't thank them enough for all they do! read more

this has no reflection on Dr Pete Gillard, my dog had a vet apt at 4 pm, we sit in the car because he is very aggressive, at 4:30 I check to make sure they didn't forget about my dog, they said 5 mins, it's now 5pm, I've been seeing people take there dog in and out after me, I went in the office again to make sure they didn't forget about my dog, I was meant with attitude from the two receptionist, Amy and I can't think of the other ones name, she's older and has glasses, instead of them just owning they forgot about my dog, they started making excuses and had attitude, I've been going to Dr Pete for 20ty years, if this is how you treat your long time customers, there Gonna runin his business for him, I'm so sad and heart broken, I lost my husband a couple of weeks ago, and Dr Pete's office is where I felt safe, shameful, it only takes one or two bad eggs to stink the whole refrigerator up. read more
