They made sure he, his sister Isolde (visiting for another less serious ailment), and I were all comfortable. Everyone was extremely sensitive about the hard decision I was making, and they gave me plenty of time to say goodbye to Inigo before taking him to the back, but I was ready to end his torment. Most of the skin on his belly was missing by this point, and the wound was deep. They allowed me back after Inigo had been given an anesthetic gas that made him fall into a peaceful sleep. I was with him when they euthanized him, and after he was dead, the vet immediately expressed her sympathy for my loss. I cried, but I was also happy that he wasn't in pain anymore, after having had to wait days until my husband's paycheck came and I could take him to the vet. The vet understood I was living in poverty and had done the best I could to keep Inigo alive. She could see that I had been trying to keep the wound clean and it had still been growing. She reassured me I'd done all I could, and since she knew I'd had to borrow money to have enough to Uber out there (I had wound up there before when my vet was unavailable and knew my rats would get good care there, even though it's easily thirty minutes from my house), she waived the exam fee for both of my rats, recommending Isolde see a specialist, and only having me pay for the cost of Inigo's euthanasia, which was $60. Every single person who worked there that I encountered knew what was going on with me and my rats, and told me they were sorry that my rat was dying/had died. I felt that Inigo was treated with the dignity he deserved as a living being, and they didn't act like he was less important because he was a rat and not a cat or dog. The euthanasia was over quickly and performed in a gentle manner, which made it much easier to bear (rats have to be euthanized by a needle in the heart, but she did this only after gassing him and by sticking the needle through his ribs on the side). Then they wrapped him in a blanket for me to take him home. I'm so, so grateful for the compassion and care that they showed to him. I absolutely recommend them and would go back in a heartbeat if one of my other rats needed something done. If the doctor who helped ease Inigo's suffering is reading this, thank you. He brought a lot of joy into our lives and he deserved the treatment he got, so I appreciate you treating him so humanely. I will always remember what you did for him.

I'm thankful that she was able to come out so quickly. We paid for an additional service of a clay paw impression to match the one we had for Dora's brother. I brought my dog Rowan to Webster Groves Animal Hospital Urgent Care after he stepped on a roofing…read morenail and began holding up his right front paw. On the way to the hospital, he pulled it out with his teeth. I brought the nail into the hospital with us. During the visit, an exam lasting roughly 10 minutes was performed. When my dog was returned to me, I was asked whether the injured paw was the left one. I clarified it was the right paw. I was told that all paws had been checked and that no puncture wound could be located, though antibiotics and pain medication were prescribed as a preventative measure. They said he likely didn't step on it which was invalidating given that I saw him with it embedded in his paw. When I returned home I was able to immediately locate the injured area between the paw pads. Rowan remained in significant pain and distress that evening and required additional medication. The following morning my regular veterinarian examined him and documented swelling, inflammation, and trauma in that same paw. He was prescribed more medicine to manage his pain. My veterinarian explained that injuries from nails can puncture the paw and seal quickly due to surrounding inflammation, making the opening difficult to see hours later. Because the source of the injury was not identified during the exam despite being present, I requested a refund of the exam fee. The clinic declined. Emergency clinics are busy and I understand that, but missing the injury I came in for and then refusing to reconsider the charge was disappointing and concerning.

When we did our morning walk, we took the big cookie with us. As we meet her neighborhood friends, we broke off a piece of the big cookie and shared her celebration. The staff was new to me, but I was happy to see they still provided the good customer service that Four Muddy Paws is known for. I may be a regular in E-ville now, but I'll still hold a special place in my heart for the Lafayette store.

He has great bedside manner with them, and has been in the business for decades, so he knows what's up. He's very honest about what is going on with your pet, treatment and wellness options, and treats his patients and their owners with respect. I can't recommend him enough! The techs here are also fantastic. My older dog Rally hates having his nails trimmed, but a team of three can get it done in 10 minutes here with him happily trotting out of the room after his trimming. He's been groomed here before as well, and your first groom is 50% off. It's also nice that the office has a candle in the front with a sign saying that if the candle is lit someone is saying goodbye to their pet and to please be respectful.
