I initially started bringing my frog here to help him recover and gain strength from MBD but I absolutely had to bring my kittens here when I adopted them! I LOVE Dr. Schoening!!! I could tell how much he cared for my frog when I brought him in and he is extremely patient and great at answering all of my questions. One of my cats has a grade 5 heart murmur and he helped ease my mind while I was awaiting a cardiology appointment. The vet techs are always very sweet and loving with my animals which makes it a more enjoyable experience for my kitties. I absolutely recommend bringing any exotics here to Dr. Schoening because he will take care of them just like he would his own. read more

My dog, Benny was a patient here for just over twoyears. I would leave negative stars if google allowed. While I have many reasons for leaving this practice, l will focus on only the two that broke the camel's back. There have been many times I have waited up to an hour past appointment time for what the staff deemed "emergencies." That is understandable, right? Well, when we were getting ready to go out of town and my Benny's eye was swollen shut I was told "they do not handle emergencies.The doctors are all booked so you will have to go to MedVet." So $380 later, I had had some eye drops and lubricant. The second, and final straw was when Benny started limping on his right leg. I was told this type of injury is common with his breed and an X-ray would not show anything anyway. For about 3 months I watched my dog struggle and suffer while I tried to cram anti-inflammatory tablets down his throat. I finally said enough is enough and went to a different vet for a second opinion. I was not at all surprised to find out he had been walking on a torn ACL for over 2 months and surgery is the only option. They may be cheaper than other practices but this is clearly for a reason. If you have a bird, rat or gerbil this place might be ok. If you love your dog, spend the extra money and GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. read more

Have you ever been hung up on by the vet receptionist? Because I have. Let me explain: One of my cats is dying from bladder cancer and has maybe a couple months left to live. We had been monitoring his pain and switchings meds to keep him comfortable. I was advised when the blood in his urine came back to contact them about switching meds. Sure enough it did soon after, so I emailed the office on Sunday when they were closed, explaining the situation. Monday passed with no reply. No problem. On Tuesday I called and was told the message has been sent to a doctor and I would hear back soon. Wednesday rolls around without a reply. Wednesday's receptionist told me it was sent to a doctor and she had no idea how long it would take to get a reply. "That's not acceptable, this is urgent" I said. "If I don't hear back today I'll need to take my business elsewhere," I said (because dying cat, time is of the essence, etc.) To which she replied "Thank you for the threat" and the line went dead. Let's be clear: this is just the last straw. I had been going to this practice for NINE years. You do the math on how much I've spent. ACU was great to begin with, but once their main vet left to start his own practice, the quality of customer service and attentiveness has gone downhill, culminating in this amazingly unprofessional and unsympathetic incident. For vet services, this place is fantastic. However, boarding is another story. Please use caution if you are going to board your pets here. My dog was injured during boarding and they were unable to provide me with any answers about what happened and they did not inform us of the injury until we came to pick up our dog. I get things happen and dogs do silly things but the least they could have done was contact us right away when they noticed something was wrong. Also, by the time they realized something was wrong, my dog's leg had become infected. It seems like the boarding staff aren't really watching the animals or just don't care enough. read more

Avoid Dr. Olson. She does not follow up - does not respond to multiple emails or phone calls (over 10 days). The front desk ladies are great though and apologetic for her lack of response. Dr. Ollson has been the only vet that won't follow up with an important issue /question via email or phone call. This clinic has cared for both of my bunnies. Unfortunately, they have both passed away, but prior to that the staff here was always incredibly compassionate and thoughtful about their care. They were also great support to me while I was going through the end of life care and that means the world to me. I brought a sick cockatiel to ACU around Feb/March because it came up as an avian vet. I was appreciative that I was able to schedule an appointment quickly and felt the clinic was doing well with safely working around covid concerns. What didn't sit right with me was how I was treated by the vet who saw my bird. She was very accusatory that I had neglected her and made me feel awful. I cried in my car because not only was I worried about my pet but I felt like I had just taken an emotional beating from a stranger. If I neglected my bird why would I have spent so much on veterinary care for her? She commented that she was "severely" underweight however she did not LOOK emaciated. It turns out she had problems with her kidneys and after a lot of research on my part I found out that recommend treatment for birds with kidney issues was never recommended by the vet who saw her. She passed away about a month later. And today I received a text message reminder of an upcoming wellness exam? Like rubbing salt in a wound. A little kindness goes a long way and because of how poorly treated and judged I felt here, I cannot in good conscience recommend this clinic to anyone else. read more

I have been going here for many years with all my animals. But now they are like an assembly line. They are always so busy and the vetenarians that used to seem so caring and attentive are so quick to get in and out of the appointment. My cat has been having many issues and after three or four visits, I finally took him to another vet after I called saying he was vomiting his medicine and they didn't call back. They told me my cat's kidney values are in the early stage of kidney disease....which is something I had asked Animal Care to check, but they never even gave me a call to tell me the results nor did they return my calls when I had asked for someone to tell me what the bloodwork results were. Took my hedgehog here for her first wellness vet visit after adopting her. Staff was overall nice and informative. The location has lots of food, hay and toys in the waiting room available for purchase. During her checkup when the vet came in to do her exam, my hedgehog was balled up and hissing as most are in new situations, especially vet visits. There was some comment made about me needing to handle her more in order to socialize her when I already stated I take her out AT LEAST once every day and she lets people at my house pet her and pick her up so I found that odd (we have only had her for two weeks and she's made great progress in the adjustment to her new home) especially considering later in the appointment I was told most of the hedgehogs that come in need anesthesia to let the vet handle them. My hedgehog ended up receiving the anesthetic so they could complete her exam. I was given two packets containing extra care information for hedgehogs in case I needed it. My only concern was the fact that she was losing many spines but I assumed it was due to quilling/getting her adult spines since she is only 3 months old. When I told the breeder this, she confirmed that was probably what was happening. However, the vet didn't seem to know what the reason would be other than mites. She had not been exhibiting any typical symptoms like scratching and I hadn't noticed any white moving on her. We ended up doing the skin scrape just to rule it out. Afterwards, there was really no explanation of what the cause might be. Quilling was never mentioned at all even though this is a process all baby hedgehogs go through. I asked if it was stress possibly due to her new home and was told it might be. I was told to keep an eye on it and if she continues losing excessive amounts we can try the topical medication used for mites even though she does not have them. That was the main part of the appointment I was concerned/unhappy with. The staff was very nice at the end of the appointment and gave me a card with the vet's name I saw to call if I had questions. read more

I have not been on yelp for years. Took my rabbit to be neutered. Died the same night, didn't make it on the way to ER. He was the friendliest bunny I've ever had. Follows me around like a puppy, naps in my arm, chills near my feet while I work. When I come out of my bedroom every morning he does a happy bunny hop to greet me. Flops next to me always. He came home with a very swollen bottom, didnt move much. I was told it was the anesthesia. Later I found out he was bleeding a little but non stop. read more

For example, when we found out the one Vet didn't love cats as much as we do, we asked to see another one. No problem. We were very happy with the other associate who loved our cat as much as we did. In addition, ACU also provides care for wild animals. They may be one of the only clinics in town to do so. I cannot say enough about animal care unlimited! You can really tell that the staff truly cares about the animals. Everyone is so friendly and helpful and they LOVE playing with the pets. When we took our ferrets in they just loved them and were walking around showing them to people. We board them there on trips and I feel good knowing they're not only getting cared for, but they're getting love and attention during what can be a stressful time (being boarded) for some animals. Today I called because we are so worried about our ball python that has been refusing to eat. When we called the person on the phone was reassuring and seemed very knowledgeable with the species. They got me their first available appointment (tomorrow!) which made me happy since we've been so worried. I CANNOT recommend them enough ESPECIALLY if you have exotic pets. read more

I normally don't write reviews but I felt it necessary to warn someone else of going here. My pet rat was not breathing well, and not eating so I called around and found this place. Right away the vet was very pushy to have him stay multiple days and didn't feel comfortable leaving him in my care. Knowing that what he has is a common issue in rats. So I agreed to 1 day stay so they could watch him and give him medication. 3 days later no changes and not any better. I feel completely taken advantage of, and I truly felt they were racking up a bill just to get money. In the end I made the decision to put him down, in which they again pushed for more add ons after a $700+ bill. I can say without a doubt say I would never recommend this place. read more

I no longer see my review from the summer of 2018 and feel a need to post it again - BUYER BEWARE - this facility failed to properly determine the sex of our rabbit and unnecessarily neutered a male rabbit (they told us it was a female and charged us over $250 for an unnecessary procedure). A former volunteer at rabbit rescue in addition to our current vet tell us this is a simple procedure. I am also told this is NOT the first time this has happened at ACU. After they refused to discount for the procedure, they then neglected to send us all vet records on our rabbit and dog (because now we do not trust their judgement). BEWARE*THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT MONEY* I first brought my bunny here to be spayed in 2019. Their prices are higher than most vets I had called but their close proximity to my house and seemingly professional appearance gave me peace of mind and was well worth the hefty price. Her surgery supposedly went okay although she was definitely traumatized and had never been the same since. This past week I found my sweet beloved bunny unable to move and in severe pain. I called Animal Care Unlimited in tears asking to bring her in as soon as possible for I was terrified she was in GI Stasis and needed to be seen immediately. The woman that answered looked up our patient file and then proceeded to inform me they had no available appointments that day and therefore I needed to take her to an emergency veterinary clinic clear across town. By the way- this was on a day after a snowstorm had hit, all schools were closed due to hazardous roadways. I immediately packed up my sweet bunny and headed out across town. To add to precious time lost traveling across town- because of covid-19 restrictions we had to wait for the vet techs to come out to retrieve her, and while we were waiting, my beloved bunny passed away. My family and I are completely heartbroken. And I am sickened at the lack of empathy and professionalism I was shown by Animal Care Unlimited that day. Apparently spending almost $500 for spaying was not enough for them to consider my buns life important enough to save. I will never take my pets there or recommend them again. My bunny should have had a chance. They took her only chance and now she's gone forever. The guilt of wasting time even calling them is killing me. Find a vet that cares about your beloved pets.. We took our Aussie here for his vet care while we lived in Dublin. Dr Burton is one of the kindest people and his love of animals is very evident. We had some concerns about our dogs low activity level considering his breed and ACU was helpful in making sure there was nothing medically causing this. When we moved, Dr Burton was even able to provide us with a recommendation for a vet in our new city. If you are looking for a vet for any type of animal, including exotics, give ACU a try. I have a cocka-poo who is 5 months old. He came to me with an upper respiratory infection, and initiall I took him to Bethel Road Animal Hospital. He was treated for that, but I just wasn't crazy about that location. I checked out Yelp for other locations and came across Animal Care Unlimited. I am so happy I took my puppy here, the entire staff was very nice, and the vet and vet tech put me at ease by how sweet they were with my pup. He did have an ear infection (common in cocker spaniels), which she assured me wasn't as bad as it could've been. She prescribed an antibiotic, as well as a bi-weekly preventative. They updated him on all of his shots and checked him out from head to toe. With the ear cleaner, antibiotic, exam/consultation, three vaccines, a parasite screening, and ear swab, my total was just under $200 - less than expected. They also recommended a two-in-one flea/heart worm prevention that's only $43 for 6 months. The vet also said I could come back for the rest of the vaccines and do it with a vet tech to lower the cost. Already scheduled my follow up appointment and very happy I found this place. read more

I'll start by saying the only reason I'm giving them two stars was because the staff seemed friendly and nice. I was charged $200 for them to exam and X-ray my bird just to tell me what I already told them. It's not broken. Also it's never great when you walk into a vets office and hear him say first thing "I don't hold out a lot of hope" (but I'm willing to charge you $200 and not do a damn thing!). I appreciate honesty when it's a lost cause but don't tell me something doesn't work when I've had success in the past and was able to go home and fix her myself without a degree or fancy machines. I'm so mad at myself for even bringing her to you! I can still hear her squawking in the other room as you tried unsuccessfully to adjust her. Then when I wanted my films (that I paid nearly $120 for!) you said it was an additional charge to put them on a disk! Grrr!! read more

Although i've never experienced their large mammal care, they are the best vets i've ever come across for Exotic Reptile Care. I have a Uromastyx lizard and although the vet techs have a tendency to make false assumptions about him (he has very strange care requirements) the reptile vet himself is absolutely incredible. He actually gave me an extensive test and questioning to see if I was caring for my Uro properly. That is exactly what I want in a vet. Not only did that give him a chance to see that I knew what I was talking about but I got to see that HE knew what he was talking about. I've never had to take my Uromastyx in for an emergency. I have taken him quite a few times for his 6 month check up. I did, however, have to take my baby snake in for an emergency. The reptile vet was frank, protective, and smart about it. It was a fairly rough situation, but he kept my snake alive and happy where most other vets would have explained it was impossible and offered to put him down. He also explained that he could do x-rays if I wanted him to, but he would do them if it were his snake. He understood that care was expensive and wasn't just trying to make money. It was wonderful to see a reptile vet who cared. The first time that I brought my uromastyx in was on a very cold day. Those who know uros know that they really need to keep their body temp above 100 degrees F during the day (mostly). I was doing what I could to keep him warm, but it was impossible to do a perfect job. While I was waiting for my appt, the vet tech came and saw how worried I was. They then offered to take LittleFoot from me and put him in the incubator for a while. He perked right up and so did I. It was a very very sweet gesture and really helped my Uro to actually be himself during his appointment. I've also had them preform an exotic pet necropsy for a friend because no one else would do it and send the pet to be individually cremated. Lastly, they don't charge an arm and a leg for exotic reptile care. Most places will charge absurd prices for care from an actual herp vet (regular vets only spend a few months on relptiles. Herp vets spend years). Animal Care Unlimited is very reasonable about their pricing for both appointments and procedural things (like running fecal parasite checks). read more

When I was in town visiting, my dog started acting sick. I was really concerned and rushed her to Animal Care Unlimited (thank goodness they are open Sundays!) The staff was very nice and accommodating, and got us in right away. Dr. Sturgeon was awesome, very thorough, and involved me in the diagnostic and treatment process from beginning to end. The vet techs were professional and gentle with my dog. They were upfront about pricing and didn't charge me for things I didn't need. Finally, they went out of their way to make sure my dog would be ok for the long drive back to Chicago later that day. They went above and beyond by sending along their notes and a disc of the images for my vet back home. I was blown away by the level of customer service, especially since they knew I was unlikely to be a repeat customer (being from out of town.) Dr. Sturgeon even called me a couple of days later to check in! I like him better than my actual vet! Bonus- the office doesn't smell like urine or disinfectant, like so many places do. I take my reivews seriously, but being an Elite for Columbus I take them more seriously now. I dont want any business to fail, nor do I wish ill thoughts on anyone, but I must be fair. I'll point out that this review has been slighly altered since I received a very worried letter from their manager. I had a few issues with them, that for the most part, were resolved. You'll notice that some of my words below have been removed, and some have been altered. "I recently boarded my 3 rabbits here while I was away in Ireland. They even gave them all a check up while they stayed there. $12 per rabbit per day, and they offered to feed them hey, pellets, and veggies which was included in the price. Now, you notice the 3 stars...I'll explain. They may have been friendly and yes they even had extras like a vet check up, but they also had a few negitives. Before I gave the buns over, I packed their going-away tote bag, filled with a bowl, water bottle, & food pellets. Now, of course, these things were all packed just in case they needed them. I also packed 2 hay tunnels to be used while I was away, for snacking & also as a place for them to hide if they needed it; a metal cage isnt too comfy. Once there, they told me that they would feed them and provide hay and pellets and veggies. This then validated what the woman on the phone told me prior to booking my bunnies here. It was still great to here this upon arrival, and a sigh of relief that when I return I wont have to go to the store and buy more. Now, I think it's worth adding that I'm a worrier, as all mommies are, and this mommy packed a whole months worth of pellets with a post-it note reading "2 scoops AM & 2 scoops PM" and I included the scooper. Even if they needed to use my pellets (which they already said twice now that they would not be) who can mess up those instructions!? Well, after returning we got the bunnies (all seemed well) and went home. When we got home I realized the nothing I packed had been used, apart from the pellets. All the pellets were gone; the full bag (a months worth) was gone." Prior to this version of my review this is where I called them thieves. The first draft of my review, I'll admit to being upset. After all, when I picked up my bunnies no one even told me that our pellets were used, let alone gone. I had to rush over to Petsmart 30 mins away to buy them more food. I would have driven over to the Vet and got it there but it was further and they were already closed. It was a nightmare, and I do not think I should change my review to apease them. I am an honest person, and to me, that would be going against my better judgement. I will of course add things here and there and note that the situation was resolved. So I take back calling them thieves, because they are not. What happened was a common case of the ill informed; front staff not telling the back staff not to use the food I brought. The reason, although valid, still should never have happened, and it is also noteworthy of their staff. These things happen all the time, however, ratings go down on times like this dispite wether the situation was reolved or not. The good thing here is that the situation was not done on purpose, and everything is fine now. I recieved a new bag of food in the mail along with some treats. -thank you- I did not ask for this, but they were more then sorry and not being a person to hold a grudge I happily ecept the gift. -it was very kind of you to go out the way and make sure I was happy in the end. It really show your level of commitment & also that you value your customers The letter you sent had explanations as to why the food was all gone, but more importantly notes on the bunnies while I was away. I had asked the receptionist while we waited for the bunnys to be brought out to us, if there were any notes while we were gone; I love a recap of how things went and it helps knowing if they were scared or brave.So I mention this because I wish this was done from the start, I shouldnt need to ask for this information. The receptionist said there were no notes, which is why i was so upset with this boarding experience. It felt as if no one truely cared for them while we were away. I would hate to think of them shut up in a tiny cage while we were gone fearful that they were scared. I feel like I speak for a lot of your clients when I say that I wish you would provide this type of information upon our arrival to pick up our pets. The letter you wrote us had things like 'they were weighed 4 times while we were gone for the week' just so you knew if they were eating enough. that's good info to tell your clients! It makes us want to board our animals with you. Also, it is wonderful to know that my scardie bun (Bella) wasnt the biggest baby. .in fact, my touch guy (Jake) was the one who was scared and not eating as much. I would have liked to know all of this, as I'm sure all of your clients would. It makes the seperation easier read more

We used Animal Care Unlimited for almost four years, but more importantly, during the last stages of our Golden Retriever's life. We cannot recommend Dr. Jamie Bobulsky enough, she provided excellent care for our dog and was always understanding and sympathetic. Even though the surgery we went with did not ultimately save our dog's life, the staff was extremely thoughtful and understanding during a very difficult process. We did have one small issue along the way, but they were more than fair and courteous about everything once I brought it to their attention. We will definitely use them again if we ever decide to rescue another dog. read more

Having given working in a veterinary and kennel place a try before, I'm very cautious and picky when it comes to trusting people with my dog. My mother recommended this place to take my dog and I just couldn't be happier! I know she is very well taken care of while getting medical treatment. We gave the boarding a try last night and the staff followed my instructions to a tee! The kennel manager came out and asked about my dogs behavior and regular habits. I paid for some extra play time (only three dollars more). When I picked my pup up today, the person who brought her out gave me details about the playtime, so I know that it IS 100% supervised playtime. They also gave my dog a bath! Got home and my dog is TIRED!! Sooooo nice to get home and not have a wound up dog after coming back from a road trip. From seeing how other veterinarian and kennel places are, this is the best one you will find around here, hands down! read more

This vet service ruined my cat. My cat is a rambunctious 2 year old. His only vice is that he does not, has never appreciated being scruffed. He fights the person scruffing him like he's fighting for his life. We made our vet and vet techs here very aware of this and were met with scorn and rude commentary. They scruffed my animal anyway and continued to do so throughout his kitten visits despite repeated requests not to. We tried a new vet and halfway through the exam, were sent home with anti-anxiety medicine because of the mental damage done to my animal at this terrible establishment! I brought my 2 guinea pigs there a few years ago when we first adopted them. We got the piggies from a neighbor who couldn't keep them, and we soon discovered that the boys came with pretty bad mites. I found ACU to be awesome with their care. We moved this summer and got a special offer from a vet on this side of town. We tried them out and were really unhappy with the new place. We are driving across town to ACU. They have excellent staff, reasonable rates, my second pig is discounted for routine care. I have boarded my boys there and I have nothing but positive things to say about that experience. These people were absolutely great. They are the only vet around me that look at snakes. Honestly I came in worried about my ball python, already been through enough trying to find a place that would look at snakes. But I swear my pet looked 10 times better when I left. It was like I took a Pokemon to a pokécenter. And nurse joy did her thing! I left there with all my questions answered. I was happy to find out they are very knowledgable on snakes and reptiles. Most vets won't even see reptiles, let alone snakes. I'm very happy with the care and attention they gave to my pet Bender and would highly recommend them for your exotic pets. read more

We have been taking our pets (a dog, a cat, a cockatiel, and two guinea pigs) to Animal Care Unlimited for a few years now, and we have never been anything but warmly treated and satisfied with the level of knowledge and care that they have there. Anyone with pets classified as "exotic" will know how difficult it is to find a competent exotics vet, and finding one that is just as good with dogs and cats as well is incredible. As mentioned by a previous reviewer, they do extensive questioning to make sure that you are taking good care of your exotics, which is greatly appreciated. They also are up to date on all of the wonderful ways we can treat small animals and their ailments to keep them healthy longer. One of my guinea pigs had an issue with ovarian cysts for years, which were being treated by the vet we saw before we moved. Most vets I interviewed here had never even heard of providing hormone injections to treat this incredibly common issue for female guinea pigs, but not only did they know right away what to give her, but also managed to find the perfect balance of dosages for her that kept her healthy for a long time. And then when she got cancer, we threw everything we had at it (which was always our choice - we were never pressured to spend money on procedures and all alternatives were always laid out for us). She eventually passed away (the prognosis for guinea pigs and cancer is never good), but we are convinced that they gave us months of happy guinea pig that we would not have gotten otherwise. Aside from their expertise, we have also found them to be incredibly accommodating and friendly. Admittedly, there is one vet tech who is a bit awkward (in a way that comes off as rude until you're used to it), but we've been in there so many times between all of our pets that it doesn't phase us. The front desk staff are often extremely busy but have always been very friendly. And the vets themselves are absolutely amazing people who obviously love animals as much as we do. We have worked with Dr. Burton, Dr. Cormany, and Dr. Bulbolsky, and all three of them, whether it's the first appointment of the day or the last, are 100% focused on your pet and how to help them be as healthy as possible. They answer all of our inane questions (we are HUGE worriers) with grace and good humor. We will be incredibly sad when we move in a few years after I finish my PhD and have to find a new vet, as I have a feeling that it will be very difficult to find one better. We've had many, many experiences with other vets in the past and this one is by far the best. read more
