I cannot express enough how grateful we are to Dr. Stuhr and his wonderful staff. My 9 year old lab mix Theo who is diabetic, developed cataracts almost overnight. It was so scary and confusing for him to all of a sudden not be able to see and we were just devastated. Dr. Stuhr was recommended by my vet and we made the appointment right away. They were able to see us that same week and schedule the surgery. Thankfully, it was just in time, since his eye pressure in his right eye rose to a dangerous level the night before the surgery, and we almost lost his eye. Dr Stuhr was able to save it and remove the cataracts so our baby could see again! The whole process from start to finish was amazingly smooth and all the girls there are so warm, knowledgeable and efficient. They really made Theo feel comfortable and safe. Arrogant Dr... so expensive... examines eyes... 1) prescribes heavy duty habit forming steroid etc... in most confusing 4 word instructions 2) Gives no advice on how to comfortably give pills to cats Charges enough.... 500$. I brought my dog in to Animal Eye Clinic after she experienced a total loss of vision. Dr. Stuhr and his staff could not have been more professional and compassionate. Dr. Stuhr met me at the appointed time, was courteous, kind and thorough. He provided a detailed explanation of what might be wrong, and explained how a recommended test would permit a definitive diagnosis. Once the test was completed, Dr. Stuhr rendered his diagnosis and provided a written summary of his exam, findings and recommendations. Unfortunately, there is no effective treatment for my dog's condition. Because of this, no follow-up is needed. However, should she, or any of my pets require ophthalmic evaluation or treatment in the future, I will bring them to Dr. Stuhr without hesitation. Exceptional! Dr Stuhr is thorough, professional, friendly and very kind. I love he way he greets my dogs with gentle and savvy cautious attention. Being he's new to my dogs, he seemed to know exactly how to approach them to gain their trust immediately. My mini poodle has cataracts in both eyes and one is luxated. Dr. Stuhr was just wonderful at explaining to me exactly what happened, is happening and could happen. He was extremely sensitive to my cost limitations and his fee's are not exorbitant for a specialist which is a huge relief! For ALL eye issues, Dr Stuhr is most definitely the Dr to see. Additionally Dr Stuhr's Staff is friendly and easy going and I love that I get a beautifully typed out explanation of what to do, his observations and what transpired that day in his office! What an extremely kind and competent group of individuals. I was so pleased with the knowledge and handling of my beautiful Sheltie. They handled everything perfectly and IMO the price was reasonable for the exam, assessment, and minor treatment. I wish I could find a general practitioner vet that exhibited the same qualities as this place. The wait time is long (I think it was 3 weeks to schedule out), but to me it was worth it. Plus my dog was so comfortable and happy there....great job all around. read more

Thank you to the Animal Eye Clinic for taking such good care of our Betty girl. She had surgery for cherry eye in both of her eyes and she has healed up beautifully. wow. although i'm saddened by my dog's eye conditions, i can honestly say that i have never met a more kind, knowledgeable, honest vet as dr. Stuhr!! Even my (often hard to please husband) agrees. we were expected to be offered many expensive procedures or pushed to be very aggressive. this doctor flat out told us there is something we can do, but i dont recommend it because it's very expensive and will most likely only work for 9 months. his pricing for our first visit was very reasonable and we felt so comfortable leaving knowing our dog will now be under the care of this practice. read more

My senior cocker spaniel has been seeing Dr. Stuhr for four years now. He's wonderful and the staff is very quick to get back to you by phone. It is a bit of a hike from where we live, so the only down side is that he is no longer open on Saturdays....which, used to be very convenient for working families. She has had one eye removal with Dr. Stuhr and we are most likely looking at a second, but we know she is in good hands! read more

I recently went for a check up appointment. Again, phenomenal service. They remembered my and my pet's name as we walked through the door. Fortunately their services are no longer needed!! That point also is a positive one, not just that they fixed my pet, but because they said I no longer need to come back. I would expect, not hope, but expect a doctor to try and continue business and ask for at least an annual exam. The only slight awkwardness was at the end of my last appointment when one of the workers gave me their business card to their other job. I was on my way out of the appointment so the awkwardness was short lived. Love this place and would recommend it highly!!! read more

Our Cardigan Welsh Corgi Gimli had double eye surgery last month at the Animal Eye Clinic to help heal two indolent ulcers. Under Dr. Stuhr's careful care, Gimli has recovered beautifully and we are so happy that he can finally see again! We were so impressed with Dr. Stuhr, the staff, and the facility--it was really a pleasure working with the Animal Eye Clinic. Gimli was in the best of hands--he is normally nervous during veterinary examinations but the vet tech Chris made Gimli feel so comfortable. Dr. Stuhr was very knowledgeable and took almost an hour with us in the exam room to explain the surgery in detail. I am so glad we chose to take Gimli to Dr. Stuhr's office--this is THE place to take your pet for eye care in Connecticut!!! read more

If I could give a zero star review for Dr. Stuhr I would. My brother's dog passed away after an inappropriate and dangerous drug was administered, at the hands of Dr Stuhr and also I suspect botched cataract surgery. The dog was in for cataract surgery and after the surgery one of his eyes began to pop out of the socket and was pure white. The pre-op bloodwork tested fine for renal function, yet my dog also went into kidney failure. After all of that I was charged for a third office visit post-op, insulting after I paid $5000 for the surgery. I would RUN away from this clinic and vet. I am pursuing legal action, in spite of all of the stonewalling I am receiving from them. read more

Dr Stuhr is very professional and thorough, yet compassionate. His staff is professional and friendly. He treated and cured our one French Bulldog's ulcerated eye and is treating the other dry eye. He also repaired an immature cataract on our other French Bulldog. They even trimmed his nails. Something is never expect from an eye specialist. The write up you get with each visit is very thorough and like no other. He comes highly recommended from various DVM's and people. We are from Jersey, but have no problem traveling to the best care for our dogs. read more

I have nothing but the best things to say about Dr Stuhr and his team. When my Bassett hound Sam was diagnosed with glaucoma, the doc offered us options, recommendations, pros/cons of each, and support with whatever option I chose. Ultimately, my guy had to have both eyes enucleated but he's doing wonderfully thanks to Dr Stuhr, Chris the vet tech, and the other vet techs in the practice. I brought my springer spaniel in for an emergency consult on a detached lens. Ryan, Chris and Dr. Stuhr were wonderful. Dr. Sturhr concluded that Charlie needed surgery that day and was able to fit him into an already busy schedule. He explained our options and the surgical procedure in a manner that was easy to understand and Chris was very detailed in going over the post-op medications. We were very happy with our experience in Wilton and thanks to Dr. Stuhr and his team, Charlie was able to get the surgery he needed in order to retain vision in his eye. read more

During our first visit to consult the doctor about corrective surgery for cherry eye in our puppy, the doctor claimed to have a perfect record. He told us he had only corrected other veterinary ophthalmologists failed surgeries. We handed him 1700.00 + dollars and he did the surgery. The right eye turned out OK. The left eye now looks twice as bad as it did. Dr Stuhr saw the immediate failure in his work while removing the stiches and said this never happened. Momentarily, the technician reminded him that he had a similar occurrence (2) weeks earlier? He proceeded to draw a childish diagram on the dry erase board explaining the situation. Once he realized we were not buying his deceit he left the room, leaving the technician to try to explain/comfort us. 2 weeks later after putting prescription ointment on the eye, it looks the same, terrible. Dr Stuhr offered to do the same surgery over for another 1350.00 dollars with no assurance the outcome would be better. The only thing Dr Stuhr is good at is taking piles of 100 dollar bills out of your pockets and putting them in his pockets. The staff at AEC is wonderful. Do your research and get another specialist if you prefer to avoid the anguish. read more

I do not recommend Dr. Stuhr and Animal Eye Clinic. When you get in the door, the place smells bad. It is unsanitary for your Pets and Pet Owners. The Administrative staff are polite. However, Dr. Stuhr is very unprofessional, has very poor bedside manner, so to speak. He is very rude, inpatient, does not answer questions, or seems very irritated when I asked questions about my pet's condition. He does not return phone calls. He is money hungry....only interested in costly treatments and major procedures such as surgeries where he could make a lot of money. IDon't let his credentials fool you, he only looks good on paper, he is not as knowledgeable as it may seem and he is very unprofessional. read more

When my dog was ill and I called for his records to be sent to the animal hospital, they were prompt and I even received personal call from Dr. Stuhr checking on his status. Our first trip to Animal Eye Clinic was when our dog was six months old. Our puppy was born with cataracts and Dr. Stuhr was highly recommended by a friend and our vet. At the first visit it was very clear of how knowledgeable and caring he was. He was very thorough in explaining our puppies conditions and our options. He did not try to push us into surgery nor did he think he needed it at that time. He was prescribed eye drops and we made several trips back to the eye clinic to keep an eye on the progression of the cataracts. At each visit, they were getting worse, one eye was worse than the other. All the while, he never tried to push us into surgery as he maIntained that it was an elective surgery and our dog still could see and had a good quality of life. Fast forward three years, November 2019, his right eye was significantly worse and WE knew it was time to have the surgery. Again, he never tried to convince us or push us into having the surgery. After the required testing to make sure our boy was a candidate for surgery, Dr. Stuhr performed the cataract surgery in December 2019. During each visit, pre op or post op, Dr. Stuhr was always very thorough, always willing to answer any questions we had, and most importantly, was always caring to our very special boy. Our dogs last pre op visit was in February, and I am very pleased to say that his surgery was a success and we can tell he is enjoying life much more now!!! I highly recommend Dr. Stuhr and his staff for your animals eye care needs!!! read more

Dr. Stuhr and his wonderful staff hosted me for an external rotation during my small animal medicine and surgery internship. They were very warm and welcoming, kind to patients, and courteous and professional with clients and referring veterinarians. Dr. Stuhr takes time to explain diseases, procedures, and potential complications to clients using visual aids, while his staff go over medications and estimates both in the room and over the phone. I was impressed by how comfortable and well designed the facility is, and how efficiently caseflow moves. I would entrust my own pet's ophtho care to AEC, and I am grateful to have Dr. Stuhr as a resource for consultation on my own cases. read more

All I can say is wow! Dr. Stuhr & staff were so warm and welcoming. Dr. S. was very thorough & gentle when he examined our dog, who VERY rapidly developed diabetic cataracts within the last month. This review is a long time coming, but it is important I do so because I want others to know what an exceptional, wonderful, amazing team they are at this clinic. We are going back about a year and 1/2 and I found them quite by accident when my vet's office told me my cat, following dental surgery, had what was a sudden eye issue that could rupture at any time. This was a Thursday, I could not find anyone who would see her until the following week and I was panicking. I searched reviews on Yelp and went from one to another until I saw one from a woman giving high praise to the Animal Eye Clinic, about an hour from me (but an easy drive). They put us on the schedule right away the next morning and took excellent care of my pet, from surgery to after care and follow-ups. It was a touch and go situation where she could have lost her eye, a cautious prognosis, but they saved it and she recovered beautifully. Dr. Stuhr immediately earned my trust from the moment I saw him interact with Rosie. She was in great hands and her recovery was proof of that. We made her 3 month follow-up to see Dr. Stuhr and some time after that, she had a re-check with her regular vet at home. Unfortunately, she passed away suddenly before she made it back for her 3 month check, to no fault of this office. It was heartbreaking because she had come so far and was so brave, but whether it was an underlying issue that caused this eye injury to begin with during her dental surgery, perhaps age (she was 14) or just her time, I am so very lucky to have gone through the journey with her. Things could have gone differently for her, but as a pet parent, you always want the best for your little one and she got that here. For that and for the 14 years I had her, I am truly grateful. I had called and left the office a message about her passing and received a lovely hand written note from the Doctor himself, a gesture that touched me greatly. In this day and age, it is rare for someone to write a letter or note. This busy man took time out of his day to pen condolences, something that only further exemplifies what this practice is about. I will absolutely, without hesitation, recommend them to anyone. read more

Our French Bulldog, Stan has had some eye issues. Although we had been elsewhere it was pretty much a cold, clinical, experience,Happenstance sent us to Dr. Stuhr and we could not be more thankful.We are so impressed with the care Stan received from Dr. Stuhr. Dr. Stuhr is a terrific veterinary ophthalmologist. He did our dog, Buster's, surgery and two years later he says you would never know he had had it done. He and his staff are so gentle and careful, they calm out very anxious Cairn terrier right away. If I could give more stars to make up for people who gave one star, I would! Let me start by saying I have been coming here for years with my dog. She had some very traumatic, severe, ongoing eye problems. My dog is also not the easiest 8 pound dog to deal with. She is a total DIVA from nose to tail and she would scream at the top of her lungs. The staff here is incredible! Every time we came here, (no matter how my dog acted) the staff and Dr. Stuhr would be so accommodating, loving, caring and tender to my dog. Dr. Stuhr always spent a great deal of time with us going over every aspect of our dog's eyes. He explained things so we could understand exactly what was going on and what needed to be done surgical or otherwise. He ALWAYS let us know that any surgery needed came with risks, just like a person undergoing a surgery. He always told us he would do his best and he always did! We never had any problems with the medications he recommended. He also always told us what symptoms to look for in case our dog needed a medication change. We can't thank Dr. Stuhr and his incredible staff enough for all they have done for our dog. The Dr and staff here are really the best of the best and I would recommend them a thousand times over! read more
