If I could give negative stars I would. Within my immediate family we have a total of 5 dogs between us. Over the course of the last 4 years we have attended this location multiple times with all our dogs and the quality of service has continuously declined throughout our visits. Expect to be on hold for at least 20 minutes when you call, if you leave a voicemail understand that theres a solid chance they won't bother to call you back. We have never received a curtesy call after a visit from this location, I've personally never been able to see the actual vet in person (although family members have). I have heard that Dr. Donna is a very nice lady but between the horrible communication/service from the front desk, extremely long wait times, and most importantly the lax quality of care we have experienced we will never come back here again. Our female Akita was pregnant last year and I scheduled an appointment to ensure her pregnancy was progressing smoothly and get a puppy count. I spent days doing research on Akita pregnancies once we realized our two akitas had tied the knot. I had a list of questions to ask the vet as I wanted to provide a smooth whelping for our dog and ensure I could help her by being prepared for the worst. After waiting for almost an hour after our scheduled appointment they took our female in alone (covid) and we waited. The vet tech came out, told us to expect 4ish puppies and that she looked fine. I asked if it would be possible to speak to the vet to ask some questions. They sent another vet tech out said the vet was busy so I asked her 3 of my questions and she had no idea what I was talking about, couldn't respond to anything I asked. I again asked if we could see the actual vet. She went inside and no one came back out to speak to us. We eventually just left, our female gave birth to EIGHT puppies (not 4ish at all), I had to assist her by pulling a puppy out of her vaginal canal who was birthed outside of his amniotic sack, and spent 30 minutes taking steps to resuscitate him. Some of these complications were things I was hoping to go over with the vet. Always do your own research to help your pets! One of those puppies went in for a visit today hoping to be checked out for a minor limp, a small lump on the top of his head and hyperkeritanosis on his paws. The front desk apparently only noted the minor limp from his back paw when we scheduled the appointment for the three things over the phone. The vet checked his ankle/paw with the limp, said he was fine, clearly didn't notice the developing hyperkeritanosis while inspecting him and sent my brother on his way before he could even ask about the two other things we were hoping to check on for him. There are many more experiences I wan't to list to fully portray how frustrated I am! But that would turn this review into a novel. So I will leave it at that. I love animals and it seems this location can't organize time to provide quality care and show empathy for their furry patients as well as worried owners. read more

I've been going to Dr. Sowder for 10 years now and I love her. She's so sweet and really good/attentive with my dog who has terribly anxiety. Her practice has definitely grown a ton and they've gotten noticeably busier after covid, (all while experiencing labor shortage) but I have yet to have a bad experience, and don't feel like they have compromised at all on care/safety. Still two star for AHMC. Follow up--Wound up going to VCA Alderwood hospital. Clean neat and very organized. A bit of sticker shock, like a human hospital, with the itemized charges 60 here 40 there for every little item or procedure. Scheduling easy, fast and convenient. Teeth cleaned, went well and was about same price as others, but other itemized charges really added up. Overall, the work was done right, staff very professional and I'l likely come back. Cost a bit more, but better service and quality. You get what you pay for i guess with vets too. read more

I recently got a new kitten who needed to get de-wormed and her vaccination shots. The animal hospital at murphy's corner was professional, friendly, and the fact that they were animal people really shined through. Isis was treated wonderfully and all of the staff came by to ooh and ahh at her, which she loved. The front desk was efficient in getting her checked in and all follow-up appointments scheduled. I went on my way with a handy appointment reminder card and suitably impressed with how they ran their operation. They love animals and it shows. read more

I took my cat in to be seen after he got in a fight. I got an estimate on a price prior to going just to be safe. The bill came to $70 more than I had been quoted and they said I could pay the $70 later and take care of the initial amount. In all honesty, I completely forgot about the additional $70 due, and I know months went by. Not ONCE though did I get a reminder bill from the Animal Hospital. Yet they felt the need to send me to a collection agency for the balance. I'm still trying to understand why they couldn't have sent a statement or called, or something to remind me, and I would have paid it immediately. I will not be returning after this incident. I wanted to share a letter my elderly mother wrote to Dr. Donna and her staff at The Animal Hospital at Murphy's Corner. She always had a positive experience when she needed help with her dog. Dear Dr. Donna and Staff, I am forever grateful to you for making the last years for Shirley, my sweet little rescue poodle, so much better. When we came there, he was old and was having increasing seizures - every week and a half - despite increased meds. After you prescribed the new medicine which was inexpensive, he was completely seizure-free which I thought would never happen. When he passed away, one of your staff had tears in her eyes and sent me a sympathy card. It's been 2 years and I miss him still I remember after he had passed away, you mentioned that his seizure med would be given to someone who could not afford the medicine for their pet. I am enclosing a small donation if you would like to donate it to someone who needs help with their pet's medicine. I will never forget the good care and the kindness of you and your staff. The following events occurred between 4pm and 5pm on 9/16/20. I arrived on site and checked in with the person at the door. Verified my name was on the list and that I was there to just pick up medicine. I was told that there were three people ahead of me. Twenty minutes have gone by now, so I went up and asked how long? Answer: "I don't know," After another twenty minutes of time. During which, I sat and watched as cars on both sides arrived and departed. Due to my own time constraint and having waited over 40minutes now. I proceeded to tell the door monitor, as a common courtesy, I was leaving. I have been here twice with my service dog. This vet is really amazing. She never over charges you and always explains what you will be charged for. That being said she is under staffed for the amount of patients she has. I know it is to keep the coat down for said patients, and I appreciate it. They are also willing to work with you if you can't make the full amount on time but they don't remind you, via phone call or letter to pay, because the staff is focused on the care of the patients that are there in person. A good vet is hard to find, and the doc here cares about her patients and their family. read more

I've had a history with this vet for many years- changed two locations and with three of my dogs currently as well as past dogs. My dog became ill, lethargic and wouldn't eat so I called to bring her in- I was told originally 2-1/2 weeks out but a cancellation came up on july 2nd so I took it. It was recommended to do a blood test, we did. We were prescribed medication and hills prescription KD food. We were also advised someone would set up a ultrasound apt and call us. When I got home I looked up what the medication was for, kidney disease. My dog is 4 years old so this was surprisingly and also that Dr Donna didn't explain this to me. The next day I called and left a message as my dog was declining even though I was giving her the prescribed meds and she wouldn't touch the food. The 4th of July (two days later)we spent all day and night at the emergency hospital in kirkland, the blood test there revealed possible Addison's disease and was then confirmed with another test. They did the ultra sound as well and did IV fluids. I never got a call back from Dr Donna or her staff, not to check on my dog, return our call, ultra sound apt they were gonna line up. We have found another provider that made time for us. There were numerous times I had my dog to the vet in the past year for different ailments that were actually all symptoms of Addison's but it was not diagnosed. My dog was in crisis and had I waited we would have lost her. I feel terrible that I didn't get her someone who could spend more time to be thorough. The most upsetting for me is that still to date 10days, no call back. My dog has returned to her energetic self, she will have to have a shot every month for the rest of her life for addisons but she has a new veterinarian that has made time for her care. read more

Dr. Sowder is amazing and her prices are very fair. She truly cares for your animal. The front desk is always busy and you might be waiting a few minutes before being greeted. My only gripe is the clinic availability is booked out a week everytime I call. That's when you have to have a good back up plan, which I've learned to have over the years of owning pets. FYI: they have a kitten and puppy care plan. I took advantage of the savings just because I was on a budget and knew I would be coming back. Dr. Donna is the best. A number of vets in the area have become quite impersonal and obviously motivated by money, not compassion. Not so with Dr. Donna. She gives excellent care and her demeanor is compassionate. She truly cares about the well-being of every animal that walks in her door. THAT is her TOP PRIORITY! Of course she charges for her quality care but not at all excessively and never with any pressure or coercion. With that said there is no question in our minds where to bring our four-legged children when they are I'll. Recently we brought a very young but terribly ill puppy to her. Unfortunately we got her there too late to save her, but when Dr. Donna saw she was going to pass she held our puppy until she passed, so she wouldn't be alone. WHO DOES THAT ANYMORE? If you want you and your pet to be treated with kindness and compassion, this is NOT the place to go. Dr. Sowder is an old school quack who should not be practicing veterinary medicine. I have also filed a formal complaint with the Washington State Department of Health. My parents live near this place and went because it was affordable. Unfortunately, you get what you pay for. In 2011, I had just adopted my dog, Banjo, who is people reactive (shy to touch). I was looking for some guidance in possibly trying a medication for him, and my parents recommended I see Dr. Sowder about options. I was not looking for training advice, I was seeking a medical opinion. Dr. Sowder had me muzzle him while she forcefully handled him and pet him. He was cowering, shaking, and even growling - giving her all the signs that he was uncomfortable. You would think a veterinarian would be well-versed in animal behavior and the signs they give you when they are in distress. She also prattled on about alpha dog and dominance theories, which have been scientifically disproven. Any vet that is practicing in modern veterinary medicine will know this. I left her office sobbing and vowing to never see that woman again. Sadly, my parents still decided to take their dog, Zeus, to her. Luckily, he was very healthy and only needed the yearly checkups. Until last June. Zeus rapidly declined in health from June-December, and as a family, we ultimately decided to end his suffering on Wednesday, December 20, 2017. The arrangement was to have Dr. Sowder come to the house and do the procedure at 7 p.m. We called at 4:30 p.m. to confirm that Dr. Sowder was on schedule, and we then asked if we should do anything to prepare. They said no, that Dr. Sowder would have everything she needed when she arrived. Zeus had been up and alert that afternoon and evening, and when Dr. Sowder showed up she did not bring a sedative with her. She then stated, "I usually bring a sedative, but it's not that big of a deal, it's one poke versus two". The vet office is about 4 minutes from our house and she did not offer to go get one since he was up, moving, and appeared to be anxious. Before we started the procedure, Dr. Sowder did not give us an overview of the process or what we should expect. She did not walk us through or explain what was about to happen at all. The procedure started by us trying to get Zeus to relax and lay down - this did not go well. He was alert, confused, and struggling to get up. When I mentioned that he should have had a sedative, Dr. Sowder responded defensively "he would be like this with a sedative too, because fight or flight" - which I now know to be untrue. When we could not get him calm, Dr. Sowder gave Zeus a small injection of the Phenobarbital without any warning or explanation. In fact, instead of explaining what she was doing she proceeded to tell us a story about trying to euthanize a husky earlier in the year and not being able to find a vein. Zeus then started gasping for air, as the Phenobarbital was slowly killing him. Then, before telling us or asking if we were ready, she injected him with the rest of the Phenobarbital, and he was gone. This is one of the most traumatizing experiences my family has ever been through. To say it was botched is an understatement. Her bedside manner was horrible, and downright rude at times. Please make sure you read ALL of the reviews on Yelp - there is a button at the bottom that says "reviews that are not currently recommended" - click on it! Most of those are 1-star reviews. My goal in writing this review and in filing the formal complaint is to prevent other well-meaning pet-owners from ever having to endure this horrific experience. read more

No blood work no other diagnostic procedures she handed us a prescription for pain and joint strength. I never write Yelp reviews, but I have to for this place. Went here a few times for our puppy. Never once was he given an exam. They never looked at him or checked his wellness whatsoever. They're all about their money. Every single time I went in, it was at least a 40 min wait just to be seen WITH AN APPOINTMENT. Multiple times they helped others that came in AFTER me. So frustrating. PEASE DONT TAKE YOUR ANIMAL TO THIS PLACE. I brought my elderly cat to Murphy's corner animal hospital as she wasnt able to produce a stool very well. Dr Donna had my elderly cat for 9 days and no communication as how the cat is doing. I requested a blood panel and urinalysis test and Dr Donna and techs did t want to do the test, but after i requested it a couple times Donna said she would do it. They Medicated my cat without no communication. I still have no records of blood panel or urinalysis test. i demanded to have my cat after 9 days in Dr Donna's care. They refused to hand my car over becase they wanted to clean her up but i demanded them to give my cat over and then the Dr Donna came out and gave my cat to me in a very bad condition. She was full of poop all over her body and Dr Donna informed me that my cat almost died in her care. What? It was probably because she had my cat living in her own shit which become toxic to her. I am so glad that my husband pushed me to take my cat out of the nightmare she incounted in Donna's care at Murphy's corner Animal Hospital. I dont know how she can call her clinic a hospital since the animals are being abused and neglected. I'm not able to get any of cat records as there hasn't been any charting done nor can my new vet get records. I believe they lie and charge for tests that were never done in the first place. When you pay for treatment, you are entitled to those records. I have taken my cat to another vet and pay for blood panel and urinalysis again so my cat can be treated correctly and on her way for recovery. read more

I recommend this vet to every pet owner I know. About a year ago, I accidentally cut my dog while trimming mats behind her ears. I was horrified! I took her Dog Day II, the salon nearby, to see about recommendations. They didn't hesitate to refer me to this vet. I am apprehensive about veterinarians, because a lot of them like to profit off of other people's emergencies. With Murphy's Corner it was not true. When I walked in it was close to closing, so the veterinarian (I believe she's the head of the business) numbed the spot where I had cut her and stapled it. I was very thankful that she could help me so close to closing. The cost was MINIMAL.. I mean about half of what any other "Cheap" vet would charge. I was on an extreme budget so this was much appreciated. The next day, my dog had ripped out her staples! I know this can be common--I took her back to Murphy's corner and she took a real close look at it. She had the answer. She actually put my dog under anesthesia and stitched it shut! When I got to the counter I was sure it would be really expensive. She charged me even less than last time! I guess she figured it should have been taken care of on the first visit. WONDERFUL! Not too long after that my dog healed up perfectly. I can't say more about this place. Great service, great prices, assurance that they'll do a great job. OH! and my friend had a dog that needed to be euthanized (She was really at the end of the line) She called another vet in Lynnwood and they wanted to charge her over $170.00 for the whole procedure! Crying, she asked me what she can do... I referred her here and she came back to me in 2 days (2 days!) and said she had a beautiful, albeit heartbreaking experience. The staff had set up a quiet and ambient room with candles after closing time and personalized the entire experience. I wish there was a button for "A++." read more

Donna is a first-rate vet. SHE IS ATTENTIVE LOVING AND COMPASSINNATE with not just her clients' animals but her clients too. She has taken care of my pets for a long time. Nine years ago, I was taking my lab to a different Vet he has developed vomiting, over the course of a year or so he continued to get worse they did some labs frequently one medication after another no x-rays no ultra-sound no anything. During that year he also had increasing worse diarrhea, loss of appetite, hair loss decreased activity, he was only 6 years old and a black lab. Someone recommended Donna, they got us right in she got our records from the other vet as not to do things already completed and to keep us from paying for same. They did ex-rays' ultrasound which were inconclusive of so next was an exploratory surgery. During the surgery she had to stop to call me Chance had extensive cancer thurout his stomach and g.i. track, too late to try and remove. At my request she closed the site, and we went in after work and Chance was euthanized. Donna's compassion, if possible, made the whole thing a little easier. Yes she has an extremely busy office and during covid things got crazy longer wait times trying to get a good system down to be safe for pets and clients, but worth the wait , she only has the best interest of her pets and clients in mind. some things fell thur the cracks like wait times going up occasionally not getting on the outside list due to having to wait in cars we all had learn along the way and they apologized profusely, because they cared and were also upset over it. Thank-God things are better now ,due to emergencies things will still run late ,BUT DONNA IS STILL A GREAT VET HER STAFF TRIES HARD TO KEEP THINS RUNNING SMOOTHLY ,SO I WOULD STILL HIGHLY RECOMMEND ANIMAL HOSPITAL AT MURPHY'S CORNER. read more

I brought in a kitty that had a shattered leg as an emergecy. I was greeted and the kitty was taken care of immediately and given the best of care. Everone im the office was wonderful and treated the kitty like he was their own. They pampered him and comforted him and took very good care of him. Animal Hospital at Murphy's Corner needs to be shut down. We brought our dog in because he had been itching his skin quite frequently. Without looking at his chart, Dr Donna Sowder administered him a drug to stop the itching. He had already been taking the same medication for weeks and because she didn't check his chart, she overdosed him on the drug. When I talked to Dr Sowder she said "He probably won't die." This overdose caused his liver to shut down and caused him to develop a stomach ulcer. After months of a specific pill schedule (5 times a day) he is now better but he will still be on specific medication for the rest of his life due to Doctor Sowders negligence. Please don't take your animals here, I know many other people who have left this animal hospital because Dr Sowder either injured or killed their pets when they came in for a simple illness. read more
