I used Animal kingdom when our dog was horribly sick on a weekend. I had planned to use another company but then our dog rapidly declined. Animal kingdom said the would come for a large amount of money pain in cash. A women vet and a man came to my home, walked in with a needle and without saying a word, grabbed my dog. I asked them to wait, I had questions, concerns. I wanted to make sure I was doing the right thing. They then asked us to leave the room and let them euthanize my dog alone because we were too emotional. My son and niece stayed. As I waited I could here m6 dog screaming multiple times. I ran back in to see them laying on her and my dog was terrified. This was a horrible way to die. I wanted her to be comfortable and safe. My poor dog was neither, the was terrified during her final time. These people were horrible. I was trying to give my Dog peace and it turned into torture. Please do not use this company, our sweet babies deserve better. read more

i go to Alston Park every day and have many friends there that I talk to. One of those friends recommended Animal Kingdom Veterinary Services. I thought it was unusual that a single entity veterinarian still existed ANYWHERE, so I made an appointment to see the doctor having seen several vets on this issue previously. My dog has a pre-existing problem for which he will require surgery. When I pulled up to the address, I was unsure where the veterinary clinic was located - it was completely unmarked. I made an assumption that it was what looked like a renovated garage or side property. The door was locked. I was on time, so I wasn't sure what was going on. I rang the doorbell. Still nothing. After a few minutes, a gentleman (I'll call him the judge - you'll see why in a minute) came out and asked if I had an appointment. I told him I did. He led me to a table on the side of he house to fill out paperwork. He asked me three times to sit down, and I told himi I didn't want to sit down. This seemed to be an issue for him. I filled out the forms at which point he informed me that it would be a few minutes wait. Finally they came to take my dog. Romeo, that's my dog, was taken inside and I was told I had to wait outside. I was shocked by this and not just a little uncomfortable that I was unable to stay with my dog for the visit which consisted of establishment of care and an exam relating to his pre-existing condition. I asked if it would be alright to wait in my car. The judge responded by saying, "why, are you cold?" Rude, I thought. Yes. I'm cold. It's 50 degrees outside, overcast and windy and you've provided no place for animal owners to be made comfortable. Eventually the judge and the vet came out with Romeo, and I was told that my best option was to go back to the shelter where I'd gotten Romeo and ask for their help. In other words, no meaningful advice whatsoever. I should note here that at NO POINT during the visit was I able to speak to the veterinarian without the judge being present.The vet told me what a sweet dog I have. I know this. I was looking for veterinary assistance. What I got was a vet with an agressive bodyguard. As the judge assisted me with processing payment, he shared with me that he'd been in law enforcement for many decades and was now retired and available to help his wife. He then informed me that he had served as a judge for some or all of those decades. The dimensions of his personality began to fall into place. The feeling I got from him was that I wasn't trusted, I wasn't welcome there, but they loved my dog. Duh. My dog is awesome. After some time I took my dog back to a vet I've done business with before. He gave me a quote to perform the necessary surgery that Romeo requires. The quote was for $2500. On a whim, I thought I'd forward the quote to Animal Kingdom to see if the numbers aligned with what they would charge. The next day I got a call from the judge. He asked me how I'd be paying. I said credit card. He seemed very put off by that answer. He said if I were paying in cash he might be able to reduce the price but since I'd be paying with credit card I was out of luck.The judge then told me I since I'd already seen another vet, I should go back to them at which point he swiftly ended the call. All in all, the vet seems nice. The judge is...not the best person to be an assistant/receptionist/whatever the hell he's supposed to be doing there. He doesn't have the personality for it. And not allowing owners inside with their animals is, to me, very offputting. I won't be going there again. read more

Male receptionist very off putting, I was considering using them for a new patient visit and decided against it after the phone call (just because our regular vet office is booked out) I've been calling around and every other vet in town is booked out weeks, they're available today and next week...which I can't say I'm surprised by after calling them. I let him know I was fostering a dog through an organization and they would call and set up payment directly. He was pretty weird about it...and said I would need to pay them directly- that's fine if they don't want business...all I can say is very bad vibe. I thought they were so good with animals and my dog was diagnosed with a horrible blood infection and they forgot to tell me and I ask about two months later and they said oh your dog has an infection. We just took our dog Britney to Dr Cornejo. I don't understand the poor reviews because our experience was excellent. Her husband Jose was friendly, and I think people are confusing his direct approach for ruddiness. Our experience with Jose was great and he was personable. Our dog had a hurt paw, and we were very happy with the service. Our dog is a Doberman and very particular of how she's handled, and Dr Cornejo was excellent with her. We found her to be very knowledgeable and we have already scheduled an appointment for her to see our other dogs. We paid with credit card. The cash only comment is incorrect. These people don't care about your pet they just care about your money. In-laws took their dogs to them for years and when we thought we needed emergency surgery on our pet they were 100% assholes to us. Demanded we give them over 2 grand prior to performing a surgery that wasn't necessary . They would not settle for any type of payment option even though my in-laws were there and had been taking both their pets to them for years. We ended up leaving and taking our dog to the emergency vet, who pulled a chewed up toy out of my dogs butt. No surgery needed. The greed is strong with these people. Don't trust them. read more

Why is there only one other review? Come on other clients, if you're still taking your pets to her give her some ratings so others can have an amazing vet for their pets! Wasn't feeling 100% with previous vet even after more than a handful of visits, so I was in search of another. I called and asked some questions about procedures and pricing, and was able to get an appt. scheduled 2 days from calling. Dr. Cornejo came off as very caring and informative. Janette (front desk and tech?) was also really nice and answered any last minute questions I had. Prices were the best I found out of 3 other places too by a pretty decent amount, and to my surprise there were little extras done that were included while my pets were under, which at the other places were an extra charge. Little things that she asked me to do, like having me leave them/leave the room rather than having them being taken away from me, (which psychologically does make sense) showed that she wants as little stress put upon them as possible, & that's how I think & like. Another thing I really like is that she does 24/7 emergency calls as well as house calls and such. I was told when I moved here last year that there were no vets in Napa that did 24/7 emergency calls, and am so grateful that there IS someone who is willing to be called upon/woken up at odd hours to help your loved one(s)! Unfortunately, accidents and emergencies don't happen at convenient times and can't wait to be treated until "business hours". In my opinion, knowing that she is willing to be there for animals 24/7 really shows she cares and wants the best for them, regardless of what time it is! read more

Very professional, kind, and caring. I was looking for a last minute appointment to have our puppy that needed staples. She was able to get us in right away. We ended up having to make a second trip as a result of momma popping one of the staples. The second visit went just as great as the first! I'm very thankful for her services and kindness. I've taken my dogs to Dr. Cornejo for the past 20 years. She's simply the best there is. I left the area a few years ago, and I continue to return to Napa and Dr. Cornejo for any diagnostic, or procedural work needed. Indeed my dog needs surgery on a leg lipoma, and without question, I won't go to any other vet but Dr. Cornejo and will be driving hours to return to Napa for Dr. Cornejo to do this surgery. When it comes down to it, if you want the best care for your fur baby, Dr. Cornejo is the doc you want providing that treatment. read more

Caution. It's a red flag when you see many pets in and out that "require" an expensive procedure such as a biopsy. We were charged $400 without being told about the process and price until AFTER the fact. Not cool. In addition, the actual biopsy revealed nothing other than finding out that we could treat the area with Vitamin E. I'm not a veterinarian but I think we could have skipped the biopsy. Having been to this Vet a few times, I can say that we're not the only one that has run into this. read more

WARNING CAUTION - Been to several vets in Napa. Go anywhere else but here. I phoned Napa Small Animal Hospital when I returned and they cared for me. Animal Kingdom is a husband and wife team, Catherine Cornejo is the vet, both are nasty, uncaring and unprofessional. Took my Cairn in for an allergy. The treatment that my dog and I received both socially and medically was worthless, they were mean with an attitude. The vet looked at her for 2 minutes, went into her office and sent her husband out to me with a bill of over $700. This was for bloodwork, 1 shot, 1 prescription of Apoquel, Nextguard and 2 lotions. I allowed the shot and pills and was charged $320. When I got home I called my friends vet. I asked for their prices, care for this kind of allergy and went over the symptoms and treatment. They were so kind and precise. I got more from that phone call than at Animal Kingdom. Prices were as follows. For one, the shot my dog received was for Cytopoint, Animal Kingdom charged $160 and Napa Small Animal Hospital charges $77, office call was $70, all others in Napa are $29 to $55 . If my dog and I were cared for, there would be no discussion of money. However the treatment was unnessesary, stress inducing and horrible for me and my dog. read more

It's a sad day for everyone involved when you have to put a pet down. Dr. Cornejo showed compassion and professionalism when my husband and I had to make this hard but necessary decision for our suffering Boxer. Dr. C came to our home to perform the procedure ON HER DAY OFF (and on her way back from a family event). She spoke nothing but encouraging and comforting words to our Boxer as he was going down. A week or so later, we received a very sweet card in the mail from Dr. C conveying her condolences for our loss. Thank you Dr. Cornejo for being so gentle and caring towards Sheriff as he passed. We have used Dr Cornejo for 15 + years......she is very warm and caring, has been to our house for our cats and dogs when needed and office visits are always a good experience when needed. Our 11 year old boxer was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor. Her health rapidly decreased as the holidays approached. The day before Christmas Eve, my family and I went to Animal Kingdom to have our boxer put down. Dr. Cornejo explained the injection process with such compassion and professionalism. We asked if Bandit could be put down outside, amongst the beautiful outdoor setting of their animal hospital. Dr. Cornejo brought a warm blanket outside, held Bandit in her arms and spoke softly to her as she slowly passed. She truly made a very difficult day more bearable. Two years prior, Dr. Cornejo removed a cancerous tumor from Bandit's leg. She extended Bandit's life a couple years and took her pain away, two years later, in a most humane way. Frustrating lack of service and compassion My mom recently moved to Napa from FL and was referred to Animal Kingdom by a friend. She has a 16-year-old cat with a variety of health concerns, so finding a good vet was critical for her. At her first visit she brought all her cat's medical records and left them with the staff. The vet did a physical for the cat, without ever removing her from the box, never took the cat's temperature and then charged her $185 for the physical and shot (which was $35 in FL). Because Animal Kingdom came recommended, she decided to hang on with them. A month later she called at noon on a Friday because her cat was having an emergency. 48 hours later, she got a call back. 48 hours is not acceptable when your 16 year-old cat is suffering. When no call came that afternoon, she found another vet who saw her immediately. When she contacted Animal Kingdom to get her cat's medical records forwarded to the new vet, she was told it wouldn't be done any time in near future. Busy not taking cats out of the box for exams, I guess. My mom just paid over $400 to get new medical tests done because, now five weeks later, no records have been forwarded. High prices, low compassion. No beuno. Oh and her friend just bailed on Animal Kingdom as well, when they failed to return her call. read more

Dr. Cornejo is simply the BEST. She has been our vet since she started for almost 17 years. She has put down our cats and a dog years ago and was so passionate that my wife and I felt a sense of peace while she did it in our home. She has been our vet for 12 years for both our cats and two dogs. She is simply the "BEST"! We took our 5 Border Collies to Dr Cornejo, for several years. The first few years, we thought she was great, always patient, good with our dogs, willing to explain things in detail, & happy to answer all our questions. I'm not sure what happened, but after moving into her new home/office compound, things began to change drastically. At first, I began to notice price increases, which I imagine was to help cover the cost of her new house, & clinic. (When we initially started going to her, she was still working out of a rented basement or garage), which was fine, since we thought she was an excellent vet, our dogs liked her, and the cost was reasonable. Things seemed to really start going downhill, about six months after she moved into her current location. One of my dogs got something in his eye, & after examining him, Dr Cornejo began treating him with an RX eye medicine. It seemed to be getting worse, & she had us coming back almost daily, for almost a week, with no improvement. At this point, we decided to take him to an animal ophthalmologist, who couldn't believe that a regular vet would try & treat an eye injury of that magnitude. He did emergency surgery, after which he told us that our 2 1/2 year old dog had come very close to having been blinded, in both eyes, since a foreign object was embedded far into his eye, & was very close to damaging the optic nerve. Since she'd been a great vet in all other cases, we continued to see her, since with 5 working dogs we were "frequent fliers". One time, I had an appointment for one of our dogs, (I don't remember what for), & there was nobody in her clinic, & the door was locked. I saw her car in front of the house, & assumed she'd gotten busy, or had forgotten, so I went to the door & rang the bell. I waited about 5 minutes, then went back & sat in my truck, & tried to call, getting no answer. I tried her doorbell a few more times, before she finally answered the door, after about a 20 minute wait. She made some excuse about not hearing the bell, (even though she should have been in her office, since we had an appointment). Again, I blew it off, since we really liked her, & and had come to think of her not only as our vet, but as a friend, as well. The next time another dog needed some sort of procedure done, (which required sutures), we made a follow up appointment for a recheck & suture removal. After waiting outside her locked, empty, clinic for over an hour, with nobody answering the phone, my husband finally left. We received a call from her assistant, (at that time), who had a rether abrasive personality, & manner of speaking to clients, later that night, who just said there had been some sort of "emergency". We would have been much more understanding, had someone at least explained to us why nobody bothered to as much as leave us a note, or given us a call, instead of leaving a patient & customer, waiting in a hot truck, for over an hour. The tech rescheduled us for the following day. Much to our disbelief, she was a no-show AGAIN! My husband waited, again for almost an hour, before leaving. That was the last time we ever saw, or heard, from Dr Cornejo. Apparently she didn't mind losing a loyal, (very frequent), paying client... I couldn't have been more shocked & appalled, when several years later, her husband was running for some type of public office, & they actually had the nerve to send us a request for money, to help fund his campaign! read more

We have used Dr. Cornejo's services in the past to have our cats euthanized in the comfort of our homes. Those past experiences were sweet and peaceful. We were allowed to hold our cats while they were sedated and then given the medicine to stop their hearts. We expected to have the same type of experience again when we chose to use her services recently for another cat. Unfortunately, this last experience was very different. She did not sedate our cat and we were not allowed to hold him. Her assistant held him down while she ripped the fur from his leg by hand. She had to administer the euthanizing medication twice while he yowled in fear and pain. It was very disturbing. If you choose to use Animal Kingdom Veterinary Services for euthanizing at home, please make sure you make your wishes known on how you want the experience to unfold. I wish we had. read more

Warning: Do not take your pet here. I am a first time dog owner and the vet visits are really important to me. On my second visit I told them I am on a strict budget and need cost transparency before anything is signed and anything is administered to my dog. I'm a farmer and each dollar counts. The vets husband began lecturing me after this request making several rude comments, asking me my annual salary, suggesting I get a new job that pays more, telling me that the vet is not like a restaurant and I can't see the cost or order off the menu before hand, and that as a patient I need to understand that I'm paying off the loans from the veterinarians education. I was there for a small problem with loose stool, that as a first time Mom, was just truly overly worried and concerned. I told the vets husband over the phone that it had only begun occurring today - then the vet told me that due to the small amount of time it was unnecessary to proceed with medication as I was hesitant to proceed, seeing as the time frame was so short. Something that, if had been communicated correctly to the vet over the phone, could have saved me a visit and worry, not to mention 65 dollars for the same recommendation as google without the dog being even 'examined'. Unless you want to be treated rudely, and to feel uncared for DO NOT take your pet here. So upset by their treatment and I hope no one has to experience this type of service. read more

Dr Catherine is a fabulous vet - I have taken my dog to another Napa place since birth but yesterday Dotty was not well and by evening she was worse so I called and on an emergency they got us in - took X-Rays and the whole sha-bang - I am so grateful - Dotty is ok now but my mind was at peace because Catherine took Dotty in on a minutes notice and we are not even customers. Dr. Cornejo is a true gem. I sought her out on a family member's recommendation after I moved to Napa from out of state (she saved my grandparent's puppy from a life threatening case of Giardia). I love how personable she is, and she's so real. You can tell she's passionate about her work! My Chihuahua Rosie loves Dr. Cornejo AND her assistant Kyle...and they love her which makes Rosie and I feel good. She takes her time with us, and answers all of my questions. One reviewer commented on price. I am by no means wealthy, in fact I am a student who hopes to end up working in the veterinary world soon, but I will do whatever it takes when it comes to my dog's health. If a doctor suggests a procedure or treatment, it's because they're a doctor wanting to help their patient, come on people! She wants to help your animals. Being a pet parent is a big responsibility and your animal is counting on you...I trust Dr. Cornejo and her team, and that's priceless! read more

I found this vet after two others had completely failed my Lhasa Spike. Dr. Cornejo diagnosed him, at long last, but we got there too late for her to save him, although she and Spike tried very hard. My 18 year old Shi Tzu is hail and hearty thanks to Dr. Cornego and I always know what my options are and what anything will cost in advance. I find her caring, compassionate, accessible and very astute. She's been everything I could ever want in a vet. read more

WARNING: BAD VET! I am surprised to see this vet described as "compassionate". She handled our dog in a rough manner and performed tests without talking to us. She overcharged us for everything, if anything she made our beloved pet worse, and at the end she made an insensitive comment to the effect of "What? The medicine didn't work?" We were too afraid to call her for simple advice, for fear she would find some way to charge us for it. I have heard many horror stories since our bad experience that make our's sound pleasant by comparison. SHE IS ONLY IN IT FOR THE MONEY!!! Avoid this veterinarian at all costs. Dr. Catherine Cornejo is a kind and dedicated veterinarian. She has saved our little dog twice, the last time being just before Christmas 2011. I called the emergency number and caught her during intermission at the theater in San Francisco. She had taken her young son to see a Christmas play. Instead of her planned after-theater treat, she drove back to the Napa Valley and we met at her clinic at about 11:00 p.m. She was still wearing her lovely, dressy clothes! She took care of our beloved little 15 year old Pomeranian and saved her life. Our dog has a number of health issues and is fragile. She probably wouldn't have made it through the night. Three months ago we adopted a 14-year old border collie whose parent had to go into a nursing facility. Dr. Cornejo had been her vet so we decided that continuing with her would be the best for this pup. Our pup had a lot of health issues and it turned out that she had a stage 3 mast cell cancer with a 0-6 months life expectancy as her prognosis. Last week the tumor had returned and Dr. Cornejo told us exactly what we should start to look for.. All the signs were there yesterday evening when we got home, so we rushed her to see Dr. Cornejo...and we made the decision that the pup needed to leave us. Dr. Cornejo and and vet tech Nova treated us and our pup with extreme compassion, as though our pup were their own. There couldn't have been a better crossing for an animal and, as sad as we are, we know that nobody could have treated her any better than Dr. Cornejo. read more
