Disappointing - customer service and common sense are sorely missing. I recently moved to the area and wanted to help a stray in my back yard. I dropped her off for a spay at 9 am to an unhelpful Front office. Why was she in a crate and not the trap? It would be too heavy to lift plus a host of other questions and problems. . I received a call from the office at 430 that they didn't get to it yet and she'd stay over. No conversation with vet before or after which would've been helpful and appropriate. There were things to discuss about testing and more. I am involved with rescue but not feral cats. No cAll that evening or the following morning. There was no answer after repeated calls to the office. I went to the office at 11 and the friendly , but clueless, staff said she hadn't gotten around to calling me yet. She came right out with the cat. I asked if she was able to handle her and she said no. She'd been in the crate I brought her in for over 24 hrs, except during surgery. I am a FULL PAYING Customer and feel terrible that my good intentions to take care of the stray cat in the least stressful way was anything but. I should've handled it through the shelter. I wish Upper Valley had said no to taking her. It would have been much less stress for the cat, cost much less, and been handled in a far more competent way. I love this small independent practice -- something incredibly difficult to find these days with all the money-grabbing, uncaring, large, private equity owned veterinary clinics. This veterinarian-owned clinic has a fantastic, incredibly sharp doctor and a truly caring staff. Granted, because they are still independent, it's a small team, so you may wait a few minutes more on the phone or in the lobby, but these are people who are in it to provide great animal care, not to line investor pockets like the investor-owned clinics. Just recently we had to very quickly evacuate a wildfire. We called and they took our dog and cats in for boarding at a moment's notice. I'm certain that wasn't easy to do, but they very cheerfully and quickly helped us -- when we most needed their help. They are a knowledgable team, providing great care and not trying to drain every penny from you. We are so fortunate to have them in St. Helena. read more

Excellent service. Very satisfied. My little guy had been traumatized because of abuse and no groomer could trim him. The vet sedated him, trimmed his nails, trimmed his fur and gave a complete checkup for a reasonable price. Highly recommended. read more

Dr. Stelbasky and staff have been great taking care of my kitty Tatum. She had an alarming chronic cough. The doctor examined her and took x-rays and determined she had an enlarged heart and Rx medicines. She didn't seem to improve so I brought her back and we reviewed how she was doing and what we were doing for her at home. This included she was only eating canned food instead of kibble; and we were also keeping her inside and also had a vaporizer adding moisture to the atmosphere. He suggested adding a steroid. This combination is working ! She is no longer coughing. We are thrilled . Thank you very much. read more

Vet is great, but I went to pick up a prescription and the person at the desk did not have a face mask on. I explained that I was high risk and she just smiled. After our first visit to Dr. Stelbasky's office and we have found our new vet home! The office was able to get us seen on fairly short notice, especially considering the restrictions that COVID has placed on all businesses. Everyone was wearing masks, they kept the waiting room clear of people, and everything was clean. In addition to this, and more importantly, everyone was friendly and I feel like we got the best care our pup has ever had. From the exam, to the x-rays, to the treatment options, everything was done and explained with care. It is clear that the doctor, vet techs, and everyone there truly cares about the animals that come through their doors. I am satisfied that the doctor treats animals with great knowledge, skill and respect and he has good bedside manner, sadly he is represented by incompetent and petty staff. When my cat was actively dying, the senior staff woman was cold and harsh to me over the phone when I was stressing the urgency for an immediate appointment. They reported inaccurate information for my dogs rabies shot, wrong color, wrong birth date. They can't seem to keep a supply of Nexgard on hand, so they encouraged me to go to Chewy and they would immediately complete the form once they recieved it from Chewy. The order was sent to them Tuesday, when I called the vets office on Friday to check on the status, they told me the request was filed in my chart and never presented to the doctor. Now that I lost confidence in this office, I called today (Saturday) to make sure the doctor signed the order, Sarah told me it was still sitting in my file. She was extremely rude when i asked for the name of the office Manager, she said it was the doctor. She wasn't equipped to do damage control and lacked serious customer service skills, displayed defiance and disrespect. There is no accountability for this staff and how they treat pet owners. I have no doubt my order for Nexgard will ever get filled by this office. read more

To get a simple allergy prescription refilled requires several calls and, usually, I can only get a response when I start getting angry, which I don't like to do. Meanwhile, the dog licks his paws until they start getting raw because no one will take the time to get the refill approved and call us back to say we can pick it up. read more

Dr. Josef Stelbasky is a fabulous vet, I can't recommend him highly enough. He's extremely caring and gentle, and takes time to talk to you, as well as being in touch with your pet. He is instantly very likeable and our pet liked him immediately as well! We went to a vet in Calistoga (only once!) who was negative about cats and obviously preferred dogs. We will never go back. Dr. Josef treated out cat (and our feelings toward it) with utmost respect. Reading the reviews, I would say that he is equally good with dogs. He's very competent and obviously loves animals.
