He is not a fan of the vet and was very timid. Dr Campbell and her assistant worked with him to settle him down and give him the exam. They were extremely patient and gentle with him. As scary as the situation was, every member of the team treated us with compassion, kindness, and professionalism from the moment we walked through the door. They took the time to explain Leo's injuries, the surgery he needed, the possible complications, and the financial estimate. Even though we were terrified, we never felt rushed or left in the dark. The surgeon kept us updated, answered every question honestly, and made sure we understood exactly what was happening. During surgery, they found that Leo's intestines had protruded through the torn body wall and were very inflamed, but thankfully they were still healthy enough that they did not need to remove any of his intestines. They carefully checked for leakage, thoroughly cleaned the area because of the dog bite, and successfully repaired the body wall. We are so grateful for the skill and expertise that went into his care. What stood out just as much as their medical expertise was their compassion. Everyone treated Leo with such kindness, and they treated our family with the same care during one of the most stressful experiences we've ever been through. Today, Leo has made a full recovery and is completely back to his usual mischievous self. Our little "tough guy" has officially retired from picking fights with dogs many times his size, and we couldn't be more thankful that this team gave him that chance. They will contact you once you are approved. Our dog is already chipped and neutered and they sent us away with a little food and a free veterinarian exam. So we have an appointment to establish a local veterinarian. The place is well run, the staff is nice, and the animals are well cared for. I would recommend checking them out. They have stat sheets on all the animals.

We came for testing on swollen lymph nodes, I sent an email asking for medication to be mailed to my house and was met with an email back that my dog had weeks to live, no call that he had cancer. It was heartbreaking. Palliative care seemed like my only option from the information I was given and when I changed my mind to try chemo there was no communication between doctors on his chart. I was told by one doctor to immediately stop Prednisone on account of him starting chemo and his entire neck swelled up, causing him to struggle breathing. When I took him in the other doctor at Alley Cat said that I should never have stopped his current medication. All of his information should have been shared between staff, because I had two different doctors telling me the opposite. I was then advised to rush him to the ER hospital and "hope they could start chemo" to save his life. Chemotherapy is not given out upon request, it is very hard to get appointments as it is and showing up at the ER an hour away they told me I should not have been advised to do so. I believe that this switch in opinions is what caused him to quickly deteriorate, and before we could start chemotherapy he passed away within three weeks.

This wound up being a blessing because it gave me less time to worry about all the things that could go wrong during the surgery. On the day of the surgery, the receptionist was neither warm nor welcoming, which honestly added to the anxiety I was already feeling. However, the vet was fabulous- she was extremely knowledgeable about dogs in general, my dog's breed, and the many health issues they are prone to and did a wonderful job comforting my dog and me. I left her there feeling confident that the surgery would go swimmingly and that she was in good hands. She was, and it did! Something to note is that they don't provide post-surgical collars, so get one beforehand. We wound up getting a soft, inflatable one for Matilda, which was much easier to deal with than the traditional plastic cone. Napa Humane is committed to helping pet owners be responsible, and spaying and neutering are a big part of that. They offer an income-eligible program to residents of Napa, Lake, and Solano counties whose income level qualifies them for spaying or neutering at a significantly reduced cost. I really appreciate the fact that they do that, even though we did not qualify. I would recommend this clinic to anyone looking to get their pet spayed or neutered. They do a good job.
