I caught him in the act but not before he had two pounds. I called AKC Poison Hotline. They recommended get to emergency vet clinic ASAP. This was the closest to us. I called as I was driving there. The receptionist asked if we were aware of the fees. We were not. She told us the fees and payment upon arrival or before treatment finished. I was nervous and very worried. I felt they were slow but then I was on edge and my husband reminded that everything takes time. Yes, he was with me. Time moves slow when you are worried about your loved one, pet or human. They gave medicine to settle him down within 20 minutes of arriving. They took him to back to establish blood base line. Everything was explained. All tests printed out, explained and everything documented. We received a copy. Plus they faxed a copy to our vet. Our Corgi ate a lethal dose. The staff and vet we're very nice and matter of fact. He had tachycardia, high blood pressure and very high glucose. After initial treatments, we opted to finish treatment at home. We were advised that if he made it past 3 am would more than likely pull through. I was explained how to give treatments, how much, etc. We heard another pet owner come in with a very injured pet. It was intense, the owner was very agitated, shouted, and very rude. He was not treated unkindly just what had to be done. People need to understand the emotions they have in such a delicate matter. Also, that healthcare for your pet is not free. It cost us less than we thought it would but it cost big bucks. Our Corgi made it through the night. I am grateful and very glad that Animal Urgent Care was there for our beloved Stutz. We had no options locally. read more

I don't typically leave negative reviews, but I feel it's important to share our experience in hopes that it helps other pet owners during an emergency. Our Weimaraner accidentally ingested what we later learned was a potentially life-threatening amount of Apoquel. We called ahead, were instructed to obtain a Poison Control case number, and then drove directly to the clinic. We arrived approximately an hour after the ingestion, but after checking in, we waited close to another hour before our dog was evaluated because the veterinarian was in surgery. Had we known there was only one veterinarian on duty and that emergency care would be delayed, we would have chosen to drive directly to a 24-hour emergency hospital instead. Once the veterinarian saw our dog and consulted Poison Control, the urgency of the situation understandably increased. However, the communication throughout this process felt rushed and, at times, confrontational. During an already frightening situation, discussions about the required deposit and projected costs seemed to take precedence over helping us understand our dog's condition and treatment plan. I completely understand that emergency veterinary care is expensive and that deposits are necessary, but I believe those conversations can be handled with greater compassion and empathy. To be fair, the clinic did induce vomiting, perform blood work, administer activated charcoal, stabilize our dog's elevated heart rate, and coordinate her transfer to BluePearl for overnight critical care. For those efforts, I am sincerely grateful. My disappointment is not with the medical treatment itself but with the communication and transparency. If we had been told at the outset that the veterinarian was unavailable because she was in surgery and that there could be a significant delay before our dog could be assessed, we could have made an informed decision about whether to seek care elsewhere sooner. Emergency situations are incredibly stressful for pet owners. A little more communication, empathy, and transparency would have made a difficult night much easier to navigate. Thankfully, our dog is recovering well, and we are incredibly grateful for that outcome. read more

I have two cats now, just lost a male cat about a 4 months ago. My Daughter-in-law has two cats. We have been going to Animal Argent care for close to 4 years, since moving into the wheeling area. Moglie my male cat was a mess, resecured from outside environment. Wasn't expected to live but the Doctor Shondrick and her staff said we will do our very best. Moglie last another full year. (THIS IS MY FIRST EVER YELP REVIEW AND THIS PLACE DESERVES IT) My mother took my cat, Gossamer, to them in an emergency situation.. After seeing a mixed star review, I was super hesitant, because my cat is family and I want the best of care for him. According to her, the visit went great! And I WILL be taking him back there if anything happens in the future. They arrived at 6:15pm on a Saturday (normally hours for an emergency visit), and she got home at 10:30pm. Given the fact that they had many patients in-front of him, I think that's pretty decent timing. The whole screening/visit, was priced very good. They are very transparent with you about prices over the phone as well. She said the staff were super nice and cared for my cat to the highest extent! My mother spoke very highly of the people caring for him and she's brutally honest in every situation. Please do not let past reviews deter you from this place. read more

Incredible service. I unfortunately needed to see them at a moments notice Saturday evening, and they were able to make time for several hours to evaluate my dog's bite, run tests, come up with a treatment plan, sedate her, do a quick operation to clean her wound, and have my dog back to me before midnight. They were very honest and direct during the evaluation and intake process, enforced best practices to be COVID-19 safe, and even estimated my bill well before we checked out. I feel well informed about her healing process they outlined and wouldn't hesitate coming back if needed. read more

I had an excellent experience at this clinic. Dr. Shondrick and the vet techs at animal urgent care were so kind to me and my animal. I sadly had to have my rottweiler put to sleep due to old age and liver failure and they took care of her and my family with the upmost respect and warmth. I didn't have an awful experience, but it was also not the best. Pros: I was assisted promptly, the facility was clean and conveniently located. Cons: Nickel and dimed the hell out of me, in my personal opinion we're too rough with my cats and pretended I wasn't present in the room. I don't plan on going back. read more

My mother, sister, and I came here at 3:00 in the afternoon. We sat in the parking lot waiting for a call to get in for an hour and a half and since I could not go in my mother had to take our cat in by herself. She sat inside for 2 and a half almost 3 hours and all my cat got done to her was get weighed and it is almost 8:00 and my cat has still not been checked on. She has been sitting/laying in her crate for over 5 and a half hours now and when my mother went to go say something about what's taking so long and why hasn't our cat been checked on yet and if it's safe and okay for a cat to be in a crate for 5 and a half hours all the lady said to her was "she'll be fine"... are you kidding me???.. never again! read more

I lost my pet today. I had to have him euthanized. He was not just a pet, but a family member. This is hard and very stressful for anyone. I had an emergency. I called a Veterinarian that is a few houses from mine in Ohio. They refused to see a dying pet. They told me that the Vet was leaving for the day and had already seen 2 emergency pets that day. That is not the thing you want to hear, and I will NEVER take a pet there. The one good thing they did was give me the number to this facility. It is not in the best section of Wheeling. They do have a locked door and you have to ring the doorbell to get in. This place is very clean. The staff are all excellent practitioners and very caring. I was told my options for my pet and the cost of the services. No, they are not cheap. But, this is an emergency Vet clinic that is taking anything that comes in that door and they are not refusing care to anyone. I am very emotional about the loss of my pet. But, I know good care when I see it. I am a nurse. I would highly recommend taking your pet here if you have an emergency, or if it is after the normal business hours of your own Vet, or your local Vet refuses to see you. Went here because my dog was very ill, waited 2 hours and was never seen. I left and tried again the next day. I called and they kept putting me on hold even though this was an emergency!! Tested them and had someone else call to see if they would answer and they did and never put them on hold. The workers at the front desk were extremely inconsiderate about my pet, and were in no rush at all to see her. After finally getting in, the vet had no bedside manners, and kept pointing out other things about my dog that seemed to be wrong. At the end, they tried to charge me over $1,000 for unnecessary things! The vet assistant was very polite, apologetic for the day prior, and very helpful, but the actual vet seemed as if she didn't really care and just wanted my money. I would advise you to make the trip to Washington if it is an emergency because my experience was terrible! read more

I brought my very sick dog here. We waited 40 minutes while my dog couldn't even pick up his head or open his eyes. My dog is 1 year old. They finally come in and geno lets out a tiny growl but can barely lift his head. The doctor says "we might have to muzzle him". Then they bring us a payment plan first. I said just treat my dog, don't worry about the pay!! Then they take my dog away from me to perform tests. They dragged him by his neck. I said can I come back to make him feel more comfortable. They told me no, then continued to drag him back.... I would have gone somewhere else if it was close but I needed him treated. Horrible experience read more

I recently had to put sons cat down, he was at office 1 week prior for visit. Contacted office approx. 9 am, given an appt at 2pm same day. I asked what my fees were ahead of time, so I knew I could afford visit and sent money with sons girlfriend, whom took him to office. The receptionist had given me a price of 74 and 35 over the phone. Then, she sent home an additional bill of 103 dollars. I called office asking what was this all about. Receptionist said she forgot to inform me of 100 dollar fee for emergency but yet gave me an appointment. I am not responsible for your mistakes. I could possibly understand if she said bring him right in. But no, that poor baby waited 5 hours later. Unbelievable! Would not recommend! And has the nerve to call and harass my son! read more

If there was less than 1 star that's what I would give this place! I took in my sick, dehydrated Pitbull as an emergency patient. They took us in a room, cut her toenails and decided she's dehydrated.I was told that they would be back in eith a care plan. When the vet tech came back in she said it worked be $1,200 too run tests and give her fluid IVs. Since I didn't have$1,200 and was devoted for care credit, they asked what I did have to work with, which was $300... so, without running ANY TESTS AT ALL, and cut her toenails, the sent my dog home with 4 different prescriptions for what it MIGHT be!!. Along with an anti diarrheal medication ect and sent us on our way. Nothing resolved. They only care about the money, so if you..i love your pet, PLEASE don't take them her! 2 days ltr. My dog was so dehydrated that she was about to die, so I took her to Washington, PA. Where the vet there was AMAZING, did x ray's, bloodwork, and an EMERGENCY SURGURY! And informed me that they have a program that pays for 80% of an emergency surgury if you was denied for care credit.. which of course the ones in Wheeling never even mentioned this, and I only had to pay the other 20% .. plus, since she was so dehydrated, the vet in Washington told me that she could have permanent kidney damage! This place is a JOKE! IF YOU LOVE YOUR PET, DON'T TAKE THEM HERE!!! read more

I called worried about my cat. Wanted to see if I could bring him in. the lady answering the phone, Kim, was as dry as she could be. Instead of asking me what was wrong with my pet, she proceeded to throw out about $1000 worth of fees that might be charged for the different services.
