The staff, from the receptionists to the Vet techs to the Veterinarians were wonderful. I took our little old lady girl there with breathing issues. The Vets kept us apprised of her condition and their treatments at least twice a day. Unfortunately her age and her heart disease prevented her from responding to treatments and we had to put her to sleep. Dr Kelly and the staff were so considerate and caring to her, and us, that day. Well, I brought my dog here for a swollen leg, because Cheat Lake was on diversion. For a swollen. I sat for two hours they checked her vitals. They took other animals and I get two of them more emergent. The other two are three were not before her because I did not check that I would spend $900-$1100 for her to be seen without me talking to the doctor first. I don't think you should be told it's gonna cost you $900-$1100 before she's even seen. I wouldn't take my animal here. read more

I fully believe my cat had substandard care. He died about a month post surgery. He had a leg removed for likely cancer. It wasn't cancer. I asked another vet to read the chart after he passed and was told there was no firm indication of cancer. I asked about specific words to Dr. Depompeo about the look of the mass. She said those words (speculated, spiny, outward reaching) were in the chart. I sure can't find them when I read it! I believe she failed to look at the chart and lied. If an animal dies in a month after surgery, if I head that dept, you better be damn sure we would know WHY the animal passed. He was 8 years old. His name was Freud. On 8-31-25 at 6pm we arrived at Blue Pearl with our 2.5 year old English Cream Golden Retriever, Dolly. She had her first seizure on 8-23-25 in which we took her to our vet for an exam and bloodwork. We were hopeful it would be her last but were not so lucky. On 8-30-25 she had her 2nd seizure followed by two more on 8-31-25. Upon arriving at Blue Pearl, Dolly's vitals were taken within an hour then she was placed in their ICU for observation. We anticipated a long wait and were advised of such on the phone. Blue Pearl definitely had a busy day and we were able to see and speak with Dr. Simchik at 4:30 am. Dr. Simchik was great at providing us with pertinent information as well as a course of action. She was emphatic and had great interpersonal skills. All the staff we encountered were great. The waiting room was clean, had good coffee and televisions. I can understand a long wait for the emergency vet care however why make an appointment time if they still haven't seen you and hour and a half later. After a 3-hour wait at another hospital, we came to Blue Pearl to have our puppy examined. After such a long wait, you could definitely say we were motivated to make the visit as quick as possible. The front desk quickly got us checked in and moved us into an examination room where we were immediately seen by a nurse. Our puppy was examined by the doctor and a game plan was presented. She would stay overnight, tests would be ran and we would pick up in the morning. I agreed to this plan, mentioned we had Trupanion insurance and the doctor was off to run the numbers. She came back with a quote with my portion being $430 for all overnight testing. The only thing it didn't include was any medications that might be prescribed. All this in 30 minutes. This is when everything went downhill. Now entered someone new who insisted I had to file my own claims. I explained that I had talked to Trupanion on the way, and no I did not. But she kept on. I held my ground but she persisted I was wrong and left. Next entered a 2nd someone new who also insisted I was wrong. I even told her it was on the Blue Pearl website that the company does direct pay with Trupanion but with all other companies, the pet owner must file a claim and be reimbursed. She still didn't want to listen. It took me slamming my phone down with your website up for her to take me seriously. I was then inundated with multiple quotes that my portion would be $600-$800 for far less services and no overnight testing. When I "argued" this point, the girl told me that the doctor hadn't included her exam fee. Ok. Not my problem? Why not honor what you quoted me? But then she has the audacity with attitude to ask me what I could afford so she can quit running quotes. It wasn't about the money. It was the fact that I started out with a 5-course meal for $430 and now I was getting a salad for $700+ and no definitive diagnosis. We ended up leaving paying $372 for the exam fee and essentially over the counter meds for diarrhea and vomiting.... 3 hours later. I have never felt like such an inconvenience to a business. The girls handling billing were a nightmare to deal with. I can't possibly imagine being there with a more seriously injured or dying pet and having to go through what we went through that night. Derby, 7 years. When we adopted we were told he was in good health Nothing could have been further from the truth! Among a host of infections and diseases, he had a collapsed trachea, lung and bronchial. He has asthma and allergies. He was inbred, probably from a puppy mill. He has deformities. He also has an autoimmune disease in his eye. The ophthalmology and internal medicine departments got him out of his very considerable pain with the proper medication and care. Derby has plethora of other problems, that are very expensive. He also has a shortened lifespan due his ability to breathe like a normal dog. He bites because of his trauma and pain. But Derby has many willing ways and he try's to be part of the pack. He's also been potty trained well, so at some point, someone cared for him. We are grateful that the staff at Blue Pearl values little survivors like Derby. We spent thousands before them by going to a vet that was wasted two years trying to help him when they should have just referred us to specialists. Our dog was at the kennel when it looked like she collapsed that evening so the owners brought her to Blue Pearl in Washington County. The vet working there (not on staff, just a temp) made it seem like our dog was at death's door, might not make it through the night, might need to be euthanized, might have pancreatitis, might have cancer, might need a neurology consult. The vet called us at 1 am with this dire prognosis; I understand that. But then she called us at 3 am wanting to know exactly what meds our dog was one and the dose. This could have waited as the dog had been given her evening meds at the kennel. Then at 5 am, she called because they need to bill us right then and there! Both of those calls could have been combined in the first one or waiting until the morning. Each time she called we thought our dog had died! We were able to drive home from our vacation the next day. They encouraged us to keep our dog at the kennel for another day but because she had eaten and interacted with us, we didn't feel she was going to die imminently and took her home. We also didn't feel we needed to pay another $2000 or so for her to stay overnight. The cost for her less than 24 hr stay was $4500! So I would have given Blue Pearl a 1, but because she's alive I gave them a 2. Also, the administrative assistant was very concerned about our overnight experience although I got the idea that it wasn't the first time that that perky vet forgets that not everyone is awake in the middle of the night. read more

We took our senior Yorkie who has had a chronic cough for almost a year after a referral from our vet since we've been getting nowhere despite multiple visits and lots of money. Dr. Melissa the internal specialist was very thorough, compassionate and explained everything about her diagnosis. We left with a solid treatment plan and good understanding of how to manage his condition. I brought my beagle here at 6am because I was afraid she had a back injury or some other type of neurological deficit after she acted very strange for 12 hours. I was never communicated with until 12pm when an ER tech told me the Doctor would still not be able to see her due to another patient being very bad and needing extra care. Mind you this is a whole SIX hours after I got there when there was absolutely NO ONE in the ER besides the patients they keep overnight. I even signed the form saying they can do xrays and bloodwork with my consent with the estimate between $800 and $1,000. So from 6AM to 12PM no one saw my dog except to do vital signs here and there. Not to mention one of the times I went to the front desk to ask for an update one of the girls behind the desk had a snarky comment about the long wait "being just like a human ER". I am a nurse that works at a hospital. I understand how triage works. You could have at least did SOMETHING in the SIX hours you had my dog when I already gave consent for bloodwork and imaging to diagnose her condition if it was going to be a couple of hours before you would even evaluate my dog in person. If you didn't have time to see my dog your staff could have communicated that a lot SOONER than SIX FREAKING HOURS LATER I already have taken my dog to here for multiple leg surgeries in the past and can tell you that communication was very poor then as well. This today was an absolute joke and I am very disgusted. I left and went to my regular vet. I will pay them to do imaging tests and blood work since you didn't think my dog was important enough to even be looked at for even 5 minutes during the 6 hour span. Lastly, when you leave your reply to this review give me an actual extension to reach the Leadership Team at instead of the main line because I will GLADLY discuss this visit with any of them. read more

Anyone coming to PVSEC knows they are getting the BEST of treatment. My dog had a swelling on his back knee so I was referred to PVSEC. I made the easy drive from WV right up I79 - it is a great location with plenty of parking. There were 4 check-in staff each handling calls and clients efficiently. I had an appointment and was checked in very fast. We waited only minutes and escorted to a room. The vet and assistant were incredibly empathetic and professional The vet ordered additional tests and gave a preliminary diagnosis. I have nothing but praise for the vet & tech's that worked with us. We had our 5 year old dog and new pup in for vomiting & dehydration. Something had set them both off. The staff was very kind, friendly & professional & treated us & our dogs as we expected as far as dealing with us. positive experience. That, I can say it was not! Unless you consider sitting on a cheap, hard, plastic chair for 7.5 hours with 2 sick dogs a pleasing experience. You warn of a possible 8 hour wait as you talk about emergencies coming in, etc. We saw no emergencies come in. The staff was pretty laid back & joking around all day. No signs of any trauma coming in. There were only 2-3 people in the waiting room when we got there at 1:00 pm on a Sunday. We walked out the door at 8:30 pm. $2000 lighter in the wallet as well. We got there and were immediately escorted to an exam room where a tech checked us in and did the initial intake. We had already been briefed on the initial costs. I suppose this is to lessen the sticker shock as your exorbitant prices are enough to send anyone into a coronary. I get it, it's the weekend, people love their pets. People with money or headroom on a credit card will pay it. The money part didn't bother me near as much as having to spend an entire day there! The doctor came in shortly after the intake and we talked. She explained what the costs were for xrays & tests. (warning this is gonna cost). We agreed on bloodwork for 2 dogs & xrays on the big dog, whom was really sick. The Vet said that the bloodwork would take 35-45 minutes. She offered for us to leave the dogs & go get something to eat if we wanted. We had already been there for several hours & were really ready to get out of there so we decided to just wait for the results so we could be gone ASAP. 90 minutes later the vet came in with the results and explained them. She apologized that we had to wait but never offered an explanation for that. If there had been an emergency come in, I'm pretty sure she would have mentioned that they had an emergency, thus, the reason we were there all day. She didn't mention any. We saw no evidence of any emergency all day as the staff was casually doing their jobs & milling about. The only reason we could tell for the delay was being short staffed. One vet on duty perhaps? IDK, but it was a MISERABLE experience sitting in a small room on plastic chairs for 7.5 hours with 2 sick dogs. My guess is greed. Hire more people maybe? IDK, but for the money you charge, one would think you could do so much better! Again, the people working there were awesome, but I won't go back. I'm already exploring options for any future needs for emergency vet care. I would never want to have to sit that long again!! Especially on a cheap ass plastic chair! I never ever go out of my way to write reviews, and especially BAD reviews but I recommend everyone stay far away from this practice. My husband and I took our ~7 year old cat to BluePearl (we had to drive in from the Wheeling area) after he began showing symptoms of a UTI (frequent urination with blood). We knew right off it was going to be expensive, which we completely understood. We paid the initial fee for him being seen (somewhere around $200-$250) and waited. Finally, after several hours, the doctor (Dr. Casey Simchik) calls us back. She states that they weren't able to get a urine sample, and that the only other option now is to have other tests done. My husband and I were caught off guard because this seemed clearly like a UTI, and after waiting 5 hours at this point they weren't able to get a urine sample? After hearing the price of the tests they wanted to do, there was simply no way we could afford it at that time (which is not at all their fault). She then offers to check out his eye because it has been foggy from a past eye injury, and that test was only $40 so I agreed. Past that, she recommended 2 types of pain medicine for the UTI symptom issues, acting like she could not be bothered to answer any more questions and that there was nothing else that could be done for him. After heading back out into the waiting room defeated and scared, my husband and I discussed what just happened, after waiting nearly 6 hours now, and decided we could not just leave without some type of antibiotic or SOME kind of answer after all this time and money was wasted. We asked to speak to the doctor again and this time she was pissed. She was clearly annoyed that we asked to speak to her again. My husband begins to explain that we would really prefer him given some type of antibiotic to try first before having to go elsewhere and spend even more money, considering we just spend hours and hundreds of dollars. She refused and said she can not give antibiotics when she is not convinced that it was a UTI issue as they were not able to get a sample from him. We asked how it was possible they have not been able to get a sample as he is frequently urinating and we had been there hours and hours. She got flustered and asked if we wanted them to try to get another sample, but at this point it was the middle of the night and we had to travel all the way back home (not to mention we had ZERO faith left in BluePearl now). My husband went to explain that we drove from out of state, and Dr. Casey Simchik immediately responded with "I can not help that.", cutting him off with a complete lack of empathy or care. With no resolution, we began the check out process and, to my horror, we were charged over $500 for absolutely NOTHING. I realize that not every person has a horrific experience here, but Jesus I would NEVER recommend them. After looking through reviews and speaking with other people with similar experiences, I can only say that this place is a complete scam. Unless you're wanting them to euthanize your animal or have thousands of dollars to shell out for minimal return, they do not care at all about you. Even the front desk agreed that Dr. Casey Simchik is difficult and other customers have had the same issue with her being combative, rude and uncaring. Oh, and by the way Casey.... I have a very conflicted experience and review - specific to South Hills. My cat was diagnosed with FIP by another vet, so I wanted him to get into see a specialist ASAP to confirm it, with FIP it's an act fast situation. I called, went through hoops to have his medical records forwarded over, and then have the vet give a referral. When all that was in place, I was able to make an appointment. I was told the appointments were more than a month out. I was devastated that I had gone through the hoops, to only hear it was a month out. The receptionist said that the alternative was to take him to the ER to bypass the system. If I had known that I wouldn't have wasted 2 days of my cat's life. Which is one reason why I gave it a 4. Tell me off the bat that there aren't openings for weeks, even with a referral. So off to the ER - I called ahead of time to see how long the wait was for the ER because it got up to 16 hours at one point. When we got him there, we had to wait in the car (typical because of Covid). They took our name and shortly thereafter they came to pick up the cat from the car. They said that they would call us when he was seen by a vet. The vet tech was awesome and informative. Told me that if it was late and additional tests were needed I could either come pick him up and take him back the next morning or I could have him stay for a cost, which was fine. Less shuffling my cat would endure was fine. I made it clear that I wanted to confirm that it was FIP and discuss palliative care if that was the issue. After two days of tests, it turned out not to be FIP but turned out to be just as deadly. We brought him home for a couple of days and it was clear that he we could not make him comfortable and he was rapidly declining. We made the hard decision to euthanize him because he was suffering. They were very upfront with the pricing of all the tests, medicines, and overnight stays. We dropped a lot of money for the diagnosis, which I was completely fine with. When we brought him back literally 2 nights later to have him euthanized, as recommended originally, we had to pay an additional vet fee - I think it was $100ish. If I were in a less emotional state, I would have fought it, because I felt like I was being taken advantage of in a bad situation (looking back it does anger me). So that's the 4 stars. Other than the booking issue and the vet mark-up, the office staff, vet techs, and vets were great, honest, and informative. They even sent us a condolence card which was a nice touch. Note to business owner: If there is a recommendation for a pet to be euthanized in the records, it would be kind-hearted if the additional charge weren't have been added for another vet "visit". In other words, you made it cheaper to euthanize him on the day of the diagnosis instead of taking him home for 2 days to get our head around our reality. read more

My dog is suffering from a major nasal condition which has been rapidly getting worse. My normal vet referred me to these guys for testing. When I called to make the appointment I was dismayed to learn that the first available appointment was two months out and that the testing would cost significantly more than what veterinary hospitals usually charge across the country. Since there was no other facility that offered the testing I was forced to make the appointment, wait and hope for the best. In the following months I watched my beloved pet's health deteriorate. The nasal condition had started to distort his face and his breathing became ragged and painful. Often he was unable to walk outside to do is business and had to be carried. In an effort to ease his discomfort I took him in to see my usual again who agreed to see us the same day I called. He gave us a few more RXs to hopefully get us through to the testing appointment. The day of the appointment comes. I set out to make the normally 45 min drive with plenty of time to spare. I didn't realize that I was driving into a major highway construction project. This added a half hour to the trip and thus caused us to be late to the appointment. This was on me for not checking ahead I understand that. I called in to ask them to hold the appointment, but I was told it wasn't possible. I was asked to reschedule for another appointment about a week out. My nerves were shot just from trying to make it to this appointment. I was at a loss. My poor could easily take another turn for the worse in that time. Unfortunately I was told again that I had no recourse, but to wait another week. I was also given the option to speak with the manager if I was still unhappy. While that's not normally something I would do after some thought I said that would like to speak with her. I was then told that she was out of the office and if I left a message she would touch base with me in the near future. My strong impression is that the culture of this practice places clocks and cash over people and pets. read more

My 10 year old dog had her first seizure and I rushed to get her help. I called PVSEC South to make sure they had room and we're able to treat her. And they said "Yes". So I headed there; Im about an hour away. I get there take her in and she's very lethargic, laying around, not herself. They checked her vitals and they were normal so they said, " Her vitals are normal, and we are a Tier 1 so we can't see her or treat her. You are going to take her somewhere else because we don't have the room." Meanwhile she's laying here beside me helpless barely able to walk/stand, me knowing my dog something is seriously wrong. I told them over and over something is wrong. Their response was "She isn't ACTIVELY seizing; she's not sick enough to be seen." They had no interest in seeing her. So we took her to another Emergency animal hospital nearby and they admitted her for 24/7 monitoring instantly because they could tell something isn't right. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. I wouldn't even give it one star.This might have been a bad experience. But for this time, our pet was seriously sick. Took no time or consideration to make sure everything was okay before sending us out the door. Very rude and just worried about getting people in and out. Pets are family and deserve to be treated just like humans would. We have to be the advocate and speak for them because they can't! read more

We brought our 14 year old dachshund in due to not walking on his back legs and showing he was in extreme pain. He was previously seen Thursday by our vet, but he declined so we brought him in. The staff and Dr. were so amazing and wonderful. Unfortunately, we had to decide to give him peace and be pain free since he would not regain any relief or movement again. The compassion everyone showed us was so wonderful during the most difficult times we all face. They even gave him a snack of French fries and tuna as we spent our last moments with him. The Dr was so soft spoken and compassionate I can't speak highly enough of her. We will definitely trust them with any future visits if needed. read more

Beware! The invoice they gave vs what they actually billed my credit card were two very different things. After waiting for over two hours to pick my dog up I was given invoice statement of $1035.00 but they actually Charged my credit card for 1500.00. When I called to ask about that charge all they could say was that is what is on the invoice. Upon my request to get a copy of the SECOND invoice I found add to charges I was not told about. Plus I was charge another hospital stay for a day- I guess that is why it took them over two hours to give me my dog. If you take your animal here, my advice would be to not leave them there alone. They need monitoring with the expenses. Make sure you get the final invoice. The money you pay for their service you should have better billing. Not add the charges weeks later. read more

Terrible service. Came in for a possible uti with a freshly collected sample in a sterile container. Waited 3 hours to be told they dont test samples brought in by customers. They wanted to remove a sample by hypodermic needle instead. My dog is afraid of strangers to begin with, this was not happening. So we left and will never return. I wanted to write this review sooner but I couldn't get through the pain of what I experienced. March 27, 2023 we brought our 2 year young dog with shallow short breaths and hunched walking to your clinic. At first we had constant contact with a tech until after she got me to agree to all the tests needed. Then we sat 5 hours with no news but we could hear him crying in pain from waiting room. Finally the Vet talked to us, asking questions about our dog Goose. Basically, after all the tests they could not figure out what was wrong with him. She said a possible number of maybes but that is breathing sounded fine and also he had a temp of 105. Gave us various meds and said to check with our Vet in a week. At that point, I took my sedated dog home and they said he would be sleepy. His breathing remained bad and became worse. He was in pain. It was near 3 am when I called to say I was going to bring him back. I was told I need to give him one of the pain meds. He really was not responding and they could hear him moaning as I was on speaker. Made it pretty clear that I wasn't getting any help from who ever was on phone. Goose slipped into a coma and stopped breathing at 4am. I haven't a clue from what. He was 2. It's easy to figure out older dogs problems for them I guess. I spent 1500.00 dollars to spend about 7 hours there and sent home saying he's gonna be ok. 3 medications that I never even used and heartbroken of how my dogs end was. They never even called us next day to check in or say we heard you called through the night. They don't even know that my little guy died that night. So NO, I don't recommend you for non obvious health reasons. I wasn't able to post without a star but the only star that day was Goose. read more

This is the place to take your pet when they need specialty care. My dog had a "cherry eye". I had the horror stories of having the cherry eye removed and then having to put drops in the dogs eye multiple times a day because the tear duct was either removed too or damaged. PVSEC explained to me exactly what they would do and explained, as with any surgery, that there could be complications but it would be highly unlikely. I had to try to help my dog so we decided to get the surgery. It went wonderfully! A certified ophthalmologist performed the surgery expertly! The "cherry eye" is gone but her natural tears are not! The smile on my dogs face and the spring in her step say it all!!! She is so much happier now! I would highly recommend this facility to anyone with a pet in need of emergency or specialized care. read more

This is the most useless emergency vet facility. They are not equipped to handle any serious problem and just send you to their parent office in Wexford costing valuable time. If you just want an after hours vet they may function as that but if you actually have an emergency that requires anything other than external stitches or maybe a cast go somewhere else. I don't even know if they can handle simple emergencies since mine have been more complicated but I have never had them help me. They need to either step up their game and become an actual emergency facility or they need to change their title to after hours veterinarian practice. It could save lives. read more

We had a outstanding experience at this facility. Everyone from the receptionist setting up our appointment to the Doctors and Technicians were as friendly, caring and as sympathetic as we could have ever hoped. They gave us great detail of the treatment options, were very upfront with regard to risks, and very transparent with the associated costs of each and every step. Follow up calls were answered immediately and professionally. We got a call from the surgeon during our dogs surgery to discuss options based on what they found in real time - we couldn't ask for anything more than that! Our regular Vet thought that we may have to go to the North Hills location, but we were ecstatic to learn they could do the surgery in the South Hills, which is much closer to home for us. They were very focused on getting us in quickly so our dog could get the treatment she needed. My wife and I would highly recommend PVSEC! read more
