We absolutely adore Dr. Boggs, and so does our beloved Pug, Roxee. She is now 2, and we've been taking her to see Dr. Boggs since she was a puppy. The staff there is always kind, and being that Roxee is our baby, we wouldn't trust her with anybody else but them. The building is very clean. Very much so, that when we take Rox into pet stores, we carry her instead of letting her touch the nasty floors, but not at this vet office. AVC is the best! Dr Shultz is an excellent doctor/surgeon who has taken care of all of our girls for over a decade. Dr Shultz and her staff have always provided wonderful service with intelligence and compassion. I have always been provided an estimate of cost prior to the services provided and so am confused by a few of the posts here. If you can't afford to pay for proper veterinary care for your pet perhaps you shouldn't have any. This place is great- fair priced - staff is very patient with our pets and doesn't mind being asked questions or for their opinion.

My partner has coming here for with our dog. They have contradicted theirselves many times about her condition stating "this isn't good or healthy for her" but then saying she's fine all in one breath with little to no insight to what is actually going on. Which causes the question of do they want to keep her sick for the price we pay each time. One occasion I had took her and the bill was almost double of what my partner usually pays when looking at the receipt, it was the exact same services. Mostly recently we took our dog there for a visit to have all shots updated, to my realization they missed one which resulted in us having to return and pay again for a vet tech appointment, when this was their mistake. We will not be returning. The from desk lady was rude when we walked in, had the attitude of not wanting to be there. It becomes extremely frustrating when you think that the vet who is supposed to provide insight and care for your pet is only wanting you to come back to put more money in their own pockets at your expense and your dogs wellbeing. read more

Ok! So where do I start. First, the receptionist is rude. She hung up in my face because she stated the incorrect reason my dog was returning for an appointment. Thereafter stated this is what the note stated. It was upsetting because my dog was very ill. There should have been no confusion or incorrect documentation about his return visit. Secondly, I feel like the doctor could have done mor for Riley! She could have completed an X-ray or anything other than guessing at his illness. After his death, received a sorry card!! Great service and people but lord these prices are for high. I spent hundredss on my new puppy and her ear infection. I then was quoted over $800 for my bulldogs spay/neuter. I don't even spend this much money on my own Healthcare. If your poor like me, I suggest you go to the local SPCA and spend a fraction of what this place charges. The cost of the spay was pricecy because it was an English bulldog and she required to be intubated while surgery. The Delaware SPCA did not do bulldogs because they did not have the proper equipment for intubated . However, I found a SPCA in Vineland, NJ that did the surgery for $125. Dogs do not have to be expensive. Use your local SPCA. read more

So far so good. This vet hospital is used by the rescue group I adopted Bart my Pug mix from. I couldn't find my records for the adoption and they didn't have me on file only the Pug mix from the rescue group. I wanted to switch my other dog to use the same vet. The gals here were able to research the adoption records and found his file within an hour or so and called me right back. We were able to get an appointment for both Bart and Molly within 10 days or so. read more

Irresponsible and immature doctor and staff. My adult cat had regular checkups with this practice. Shortly after moving abroad my eleven year old cat died of a diabetes related heart attack. This practice never alerted us to the fact that are cat may be diabetic. I also have to add that before moving abroad we made the mistake of relying on this practice to assist us with information and paperwork for a smooth relocation to another country. They did little to nothing to answer my questions and concerns. I had to reach out to VCA in Newark to get any help. When I complained about a rude, obnoxious and contemptuous receptionist Animal Veterinary Center attempted to cancel a time sensitive appointment that was necessary to move my cat to another country. It's upsetting enough when your fur babies are sick and you are trying to help them be well again, then to come to an animal medical facility, and be shocked and frustrated since the pricing of care is not affordable, except to wealthy owners! Facilities who overcharge are the reason society does nothing to take care of their pets, since those with low or fixed incomes can't afford to take care of their beloved pets/family members!! I came in with $235 I was willing to spend to care for my cat, but that wasn't enough, since it was $69 just to walk in the door, and $234 for a blood test!!!! REALLY????? I was willing to pay a down payment, then pay off the rest next paycheck, but was rudely told that I would then have to remove the bloodwork from the bill, after they had already drawn blood from my sick cat! The original bill that was drawn up for me was $661.00???? WHO HAS THAT KINDA MONEY TO DROP ALL AT ONCE???? There are some good veterinary professionals that literally CARE for the pets they take care of, instead of those who are seemingly ALL ABOUT THE MONEY!! Dr Schultz performed emergency surgeon and Saved my 2 yr old German Shephard's life and is truly a Dr Doolittle whose devotion to animals shines through her awesome personality and tenderness to her hairy friends. I have been taking my 14 year old Shih Tzu to Dr. Boggs since he was a puppy. These bad reviews puzzle me. Same day appointments are the norm, and their full service and compassion are both top notch. They do seem expensive but Dr. Boggs is a true keeper. This is my 2nd visit, as I thought it were to be appropriate for a 2nd visit before I could review it. First time I brought my babygirl (pitbull) to avc It was alittle confusing as the entrance is in the back. They have a left and right entrance after the main doors. Left is dogs and right is cats. I find this very appropriate and other places should do this too. The waiting area is small with 3 benches and has a basket full of animal books (eg: joke books, pic albums, children's books). Receptionist was polite, but the ding when the door entrance is too low for them to hear all the time so you still end up waiting until they see you. I'm not one to shout n holler that I'm here but prompt acknowledgment at check in means prompt visit and prompt dispatch. Our first appointment was at 8 but we were asked to come early to fill out paperwork, I came 40 min early to do so and still wasn't seen till 8:30. Why schedule appointments of you see us late anyways. Today our appointment is at 9 and we were here at 8:30. Took a while for anyone to acknowledge us, and then when we were she said she would tell Dr Boggs we were here. Dr Boggs is a great Vet, she kind, gentle, understanding and will explain what shes thinks is going on. Other than the unnecessary long wait times this place is nice. I have to admit I only chose it because it's right down the street but so far no major complaints. Edited: 3/2016 Well I changed my mind about this place. My boyfriend found an injured kitten under a car at work. He asked around if it had belonged to anyone or knew where other kittens possibly of the same litter would be maybe to reunite it with its parents. Seeing that it was injured(face burned fur singed and eye clouded by the burn) he took it the this place and said hello I found this injured kitten I'm going to adopt it can he be seen today. He was told NO Appointments only, and she handed him a loop leash to use in the mean time. They made an appointment under my account for the next Friday. That night we went to a pet store to buy things for the kitten and food and flea stuff. He ate his little heart out and we kept him away from our dog for the night with a new bed warm blankie and toy, we woke up to find him lifeless and limp. Rushed him to the 24hr emergency vet center where I felt him pass in the car before we even arrived. Time went by and my dog needed to be seen, so I called and made an appointment with them only to be told they can't book is bc we have an outstanding no show fee. I told them what happened to the kitten and I still had to pay the fee. So I gave them my new address and number to send me the bill I went In on my day off and paid the fee and will never return. read more

They are very caring and personal with you and your animals, they take their time and listen unlike the other vets that feel like a :drive through", and just want your money. Nice staff and vet. I only got a rabies shot , which cost me $56.50 (exam) and $32 rabies shot plus $3.00 Delaware surcharge , and $4.10 for Biohazard waste management. That means they throw the needle away in a plastic sharps container. That part is a rip off. Most big emergency places in Ohio charge those fees that make everyone unhappy. I'm not sure what typical exams are in DE. In Ohio they are $38-45. Rabies are usually $15-18. As a person who does rescue and often uses low cost clinics, and vaccinates my own rescues with Bordatella/Dhlpp, I know vaccines are super CHEAP, so I do think a $32 rabies is high! But I know they've gotta make money. However they got me in today last minute, were at the counter friendly to greet me, unlike the other review , and everyone was very nice , so that goes a long way for me. I'm in another part of the country so not sure going prices either:) overall nice clinic. read more

My wife and I have been taking our Maltese (Lily) to the Animal Veterinary Center for six years. The office is clean and the staff is friendly. They have convenient evening hours and are open every other Saturday. The best part of the experience is seeing doctor Shultz. She is an excellent vet and surgeon who has taken wonderful care of Lily. She is compassionate and takes time to listen and answer all of our questions and concerns. The best vet you could bring your pets to! Hands down. I have two dogs, one is 6 years old (Chico) and the other is about 6 months old (Hagan). I have been bringing both of my dogs there since I got them as puppies. From the first visits, to annual shots/visits, and all the way to Chico getting an ear infection a few years ago. They take care of my boys as if they are their own, which means so much to me. My dogs are my children and I would only accept the best for them, which is why even after I moved away I still go to the Animal Veterinary Center. I do not mind the drive since I know they are getting the best care. They are very honest and I trust them with my dogs without a question. I am very surprised I saw a bad review because they are beyond amazing and the prices are great (if you don't think so call around). I refer many of my friends and family to them. I see some negative reviews and am so surprised. I have been taking my cat here for 13 years. He had special medical needs and they have been beyond caring and compassionate. I also bring my 3 other cats here. I love both Dr. Boggs and Dr.Shultz. I have called and asked to speak to a vet and get a prompt call back. They call to check on my pets after surgery. I also like the separate waiting room for cats since my kitties don't do well around large dogs! I will continue trusting them to care for my pets for years to come! read more

I have been taking my pets to Animal Veterinary Center for years. They are a smaller practice with 2 veterinarians - Dr. Shultz and Dr. Boggs, both of which have been great with my dog and cats. The building is clean and there are separate dog and cat waiting rooms which is nice. The front door faces away from the street, which is kind of strange, but it would be much safer if your pet were to get off its leash. Their prices are comparable to other hospitals in the area. And, they have always been able to work me in for a sick pet even with a full appointment book. I would highly recommend this place! read more
